I en korpusundersökning undersöks frekvensen av slangord med romskt ursprung i svenskan. Jag har valt att undersöka svenska slangord med romskt ursprung för att se hur många de kan vara i förhållande till andra slangord, och valt att göra detta i en korpusunder-sökning med hjälp av sökord. Jag har fyra frågeställningar som kan besvara frågan om fördelning mellan slangord med olika ursprung och fördelning över olika typer av ord som kan delas in i ämnesgrupper. Jag har också velat se på förändring i antal romska slangord över tid för att få reda på om de är många. Resultatet visar att det är en jämn fördelning av romska ord i uppdelning på två av tre ämnesgrupper och även till antal i förhållande till jämförelsegruppen av slangord.

M.Litt. et Phil. / The primary aim of this study is to describe a language form used by homosexuals, specifically the homosexual language as spoken by Afrikaans homosexuals. Secondarily the aim is to compile a gay lexicon with words derived from this research. A further underlying aim of this study is to establish the lexical item gay as an Afrikaans lemma. Gay as such has up to now only appeared in one Afrikaans dictionary (HAT 1994), although it appears frequently in colloquial Afrikaans language, Afrikaans printed media as well as the spoken media. Gay language is well established and recognised in countries such as America and the Netherlands. They have even compiled dictionaries for the use of gay language. In Afrikaans we have dictionaries for several forms of slang and jargon and even short lists of words compiled by researchers for gay words, but still no dictionary for Afrikaans gay language. This study aims at being a first step in creating a dictionary for gay terms. The effeminisation practised by homosexuals features strongly in their use of language and reflects in the frequent use of gender swopping. A further characteristic of gay language is the use of female names and pronouns. This study analyses the influence of the gay reality on their use of language. In order to describe the language spoken by Afrikaans gays, this study explains terms such as slang, jargon and register and then categorises Afrikaans gay language accordingly. Etymologically some gay words can be traced, but not many. The practice of gay language is an ever-changing one, which is characteristic of any spoken form of language. Therefore, the list of gay terms with which the study concludes, will have to be updated frequently. The field of gay language leaves itself wide open for further research, especially with regards to the quantitative measurement of voice pitches and voice patterns. A study done in the Cape region would also assist in giving a broader perspective into the existence of gay language as influenced by dialect.

Följande studie är en undersökning med sociolingvistisk inriktning med fokus på ungdomars språkbruk. Studiens teoretiska ramverk utgörs av sociolingvistiska teorier och utifrån dessa teorier analyseras och diskuteras studiens empiriska material. Empirin utgörs av en kvantitativ enkätundersökning där elever har fått delge åsikter och uppfattningar kring attityder till och bruk av slang samt deras kännedom om och bruk av ett antal specifika slangord. Studien med tillhörande undersökning syftar till att undersöka om högstadieungdomarnas kännedom om och bruk av några specifika slangord och uttryck har förändrats märkbart de senaste 30 åren. Studien syftar även till att undersöka högstadieungdomars attityder till och bruk av slang. De slangord som informanterna i följande undersökning har givit exempel på granskas i relation till elevers exempel på några specifika slangord i Kotsinas båda undersökningar från 1987 respektive 1998.Den bearbetade och analyserade empirin visar att informanternas attityder till slang är övervägande positiva, mer inom användning i vardagligt tal än i skrift. Gällande kännedom om och bruk av specifika slanguttryck tyder resultaten på att informanternas kännedom om och bruk av några specifika slangord för ”pojke” och ”flicka” är förhållandevis oförändrad/oförändrat, medan kännedomen om och bruk av slangord för värdeladdade ord som ”elak/otrevlig och ”bra/trevlig” har förändrats. Man får förmoda att de ord som informanterna delger även brukas av informanterna till viss del, varpå kännedom om och bruk av går hand i hand i följande studie.Slutsatsen som kan dras är att myten om slangens korta liv inte alltid stämmer men även att slangen precis som språket i sig alltid är föränderligt. Dessutom indikerar resultaten på att vissa slangsynonymer går ifrån sin ursprungliga betydelse, eller tillskrivs fler och nya betydelser och på så vis kan de användas i fler än ett sammanhang.

Denna uppsats genomför en analys av bruket av slang inom modern svensk rap ochhiphop. Dels utförs en jämförande analys mellan begreppen kenning och slang, därutformning och funktion diskuteras. Utöver det utförs även en djupare funktionsanalysav språkbruk inom hiphop som pekar på hur artister använder diverse mediationalmeans och psykologiska samt tekniska verktyg för att genomföra diskurser och genomdetta framföra mening samt hävda identitet och subjektsposition. Resultaten av analysenreflekterar ett antal, framförallt, funktionella likheter mellan kenning och slang i sättetde båda brukas, och har brukats, på inom sina respektive miljöer.

The presented study focuses on the processes involved in the formation of words in contemporary English slang. The aim of the study is to determine which patterns of word building are the most frequent, also compared to the general word stock of contemporary English, based on the analysis of a representative sample of contemporary slang expressions. In addition, the study attempts to determine if there are any phenomena that have been given little or no attention so far. The study consists of two parts. The theoretical part describes the phenomena that are relevant to the scope of the research and the study in general. The first section of the theoretical part includes a description of slang, also pointing out the differences in the treatment of slang between the English-speaking and Czech linguistic tradition. The second section contains a description of the source of the data used in the research, namely, the open Internet repository of slang expressions Urban Dictionary, which is one of the most widely used slang dictionaries on the Internet. The third section provides an overview of word- formation processes that are productive in contemporary English and relevant to the source material of slang lexemes. The theme of the diploma thesis is the analysis of the "mother language" on the Czech Internet forums (especially on emimino.cz, baby-cafe.cz, mimibazar.cz). In the theoretical part the author introduces the varieties of the national language. She defines the characteristics, structure and social differentiation of the analysed sociolect. Then she presents the fundamental aspects of human communication and also devotes to the particularities of communication on the Internet. In the practical part she carries out a language analysis of the collected material. She focuses primarily on the lexical means, mainly diminutives, compounds and abbreviations. The aim of the thesis is to present the specific type of expressing and at the same time to contribute to the research of the non-standard Czech language with this study.

The thesis focuses on contrastive analysis of Soviet prison and labour camp literature published in anthology Jen jeden osud. The Czech version of this compilation was translated in 2009. The main task is to explore the adequacy of employed methods and approaches in translation. The thesis consists of two parts. The first part is focused on detailed analysis of original anthology and its translation to Czech. It explores types of memoirs containing the Russian anthology Доднесь тяготеет (Dodnes tyagoteyet (2004)), its variability of literary genres and its time radius. Then it analyses, how these criteria are reflected in the Czech version of anthology. The second part is focused on contrastive analysis of two selected memoirs from Yekaterina Olitskaya На Колыме (Na Kolyme) and Yuriy Fidelgolts Беспредел (Bespredel). Analysis focuses mainly on different category of prisoners, i.e. division on political and criminal prisoners and different classes of criminal prisoners. The important part was dedicated to the analysis of the author's style and its reflection into the target language.

This essay, entitled “Breaking the lawn chair, skinning the fish” - Categorization and Gender Differences in Slang Use in the TV Series Sex Education, claims that slang is part of our everyday language use and it can be found even on TV nowadays. In fact, contemporary TV series often portray a language use that includes informal language and slang expressions and words. This study aims to categorize slang expressions and words and identify gender differences in slang use in the British TV series Sex Education. By integrating quantitative and qualitative methods, the study contrasts Eble’s (1996) and Zotevska’s (2014) categorizations of slang and highlights gender perspectives on language use. First of all, the results show that Eble’s categorization proves to be incomplete to categorize the slang expressions in Sex Education. Furthermore, Zotevska’s categorization shows that a pervasive presence of taboo words and expressions is found in slang usage, whereas proper slang and pragmatic markers constitute a limited amount of the total. Secondly, the results highlight male characters as predominant slang-users. The collected data also indicate an increased presence of slang expressions and words in female speech, as a result of their emancipation and higher levels of participation in Western Societies.
