Multilayer antenna arrays for environmental sensing applications

Yepes, Ana María 27 May 2010 (has links)
Array antennas are used extensively in remote sensing applications, where a highly directive beam is needed to scan a particular area of interest on the surface of the earth. The research presented here focuses on the design of different microstrip patch antenna arrays to be used in environmental sensing applications in the X and Ka frequency bands, such as measurements in Snow and Cold Land Processes (SCLP) to detect snow accumulation, snow melt, etc. The goal of this research is to produce highly integrated, low loss, and compact size antenna arrays, while maintaining low power consumption. Multilayer organic (MLO) System-on-a-Package (SOP) technology, using laminates such as Liquid Crystal Polymer (LCP) and RT/Duroid®, provides a lightweight and low cost 3D solution for the fabrication of the antenna arrays. The elements of the antenna arrays are rectangular patches. Two feeding mechanisms, aperture coupling and via feed, were implemented and compared. For the RF distribution network and interconnects, a corporate feed approach was used with reactive T-junctions, Wilkinson dividers, or both, for power division. The feed networks were designed using microstrip. The basic multilayer antenna array design consists of 3 layers of cladded laminate material. The metal layers are as follows: 1) patch antennas, 2) ground plane, 3) feed network, and 4) surface-mount components. The surface mount components would include LNA, PA, TR switch and phase shifter.

Zanette, Fernanda Germano Corrêa 09 December 2010 (has links)
Submitted by Marcelo Teixeira (mvteixeira@ucs.br) on 2014-06-06T13:09:42Z No. of bitstreams: 1 Dissertacao Fernanda G C Zanette.pdf: 4201931 bytes, checksum: 121f561b3af014edf41789b2eb3f93be (MD5) / Made available in DSpace on 2014-06-06T13:09:42Z (GMT). Expressão gênica do receptor de IGF-1 em células da granulosa luteinizadas de mulheres com síndrome dos ovários policísticos (SOP), não obesas, com sensibilidade à insulina normal, tratadas e não tratadas com metformina / Gene expression of the IGF-1 receptor in luteinized granulosa cells from non-obese women with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and with normal insulin sensitivity, treated or not withmetformin

Laura Ferreira Santana 09 August 2007 (has links)
MODELO DO ESTUDO: prospectivo, longitudinal, randomizado. / OBJECTIVE: evaluation of the gene expression of the IGF-I receptor in luteinized cumulus granulosa cells from non-obese women with normal insulin sensitivity and with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS)treated or nor with metformin. STUDY MODEL: prospective, longitudinal, randomized. PATIENTS AND METHODS: we evaluated 12 women withovulatory cycles and 9 women with PCOS who had been treated for at least 8 weeks with a metformin dose of 1700 mg/day. All groups were similar interms of weight, body mass index (BMI), and waist circumference and all had normal insulin sensitivity. All women were submitted to controlled ovarian stimulation with a GnRH agonist in a long protocol and with gonadotropins for IVF/ICSI cycles. Cumulus granulosa cells were obtained by microdissection of the five largest pre-ovulatory follicles. Gene expression of the IGF-1 receptor was determined by semiquantitative RT-PCR. Serum and follicular concentrations of estradiol, progesterone, testosterone, FSH, LH, insulin, SHBG, and IGF-1 were determined. Data were analyzed statistically by ANOVA and by the Newman-Keuls test and the Pearson coefficient and linear multiple regression were calculated, with the level of significance set at 5%. RESULTS: no difference in geneexpression of the IGF-I receptor were observed between the three groups studied (P>0.05). The number of oocytes (20.4 vs. 13.1 vs. 11.5, P= 0.009) and the serum levels of estradiol (1,896.00 pcg/mL vs. 985.20 pcg/mL vs.908.10 pcg/mL,P = 0.03) and testosterone (1.43 ng/mL vs.0.89 ng/mL vs. 0.82 ng/mL pcg/mL,P = 0.02) were higher in the group of women with PCOS not treated with metformin than in women with ovulatory cycles and in women treated with metformin, respectively. The women with ovulatory cycles (50.710±42.520 ng/mL) presented higher follicular concentrations of progesterone compared with women with PCOS treated (13.660±5.212 ng/mL) or not with metformin (17.680±6.644 ng/mL) (P=0.01). Multiple regression revealed that serum testosterone was not affected by the gene expression of the IGF-1 receptor or by BMI. CONCLUSIONS: the high serum concentrations of estradiol and testosterone and the larger number of oocytes in the group ofwomen with PCOS not treated with metformin lead us to conclude that women with PCOS probably have greater sensitivity to stimulation ofovarian steroidogenesis than women without the disease, although no difference was detected in the expression of the IGF-I receptor between the three groups studied. The similarity ofthe present results for the women with PCOS treated with metformin and for the women with ovulatory cycles leads us to hypothesize that one of the possible mechanisms of action of metformin on the IGF-1 system in cumulus granulosa cells may be of the post-receptor type.

Möglichkeiten der Steigerung der Autopsierate am Krankenhaus der Regelversorgung

Rothe, Alexander 21 September 2015 (has links) (PDF)

More than a Metabolite: An Evaluation of the Potential Role of L-serine-O-phosphate as the Endogenous Agonist for the Group III Metabotropic Glutamate Receptors

Antflick, Jordan 20 August 2012 (has links)
The Group III metabotropic glutamate receptors (mGluR) are located presynaptically on axon terminals and act as autoreceptors and heteroreceptors by inhibiting neurotransmitter release. Much has been learned about these receptors through exogenous application of L-serine-O-phosphate (L-SOP), an endogenous amino acid derivative and known activator of the Group III mGluRs. We hypothesized that L-SOP is the endogenous co-agonist at the high affinity Group III mGluR, mGluR4. We found the EC50 of L-SOP at mGluR4 was 0.5 μM, and determined that the concentration of L-SOP in whole brain was approximately 5 μM. An immunocytochemical survey revealed that cells containing the enzymatic machinery necessary for L-SOP synthesis and metabolism were observed in two brain regions known to express mGluR4, namely, cerebellum and hippocampus. In the cerebellum, the L-SOP synthetic and metabolic enzymes were found in Bergmann glia and Purkinje cells, two cells which form a tripartite synapse with parallel fiber axon terminals where the mGluR4 subtype is exclusively expressed at high levels. In the hippocampus, the L-SOP metabolic enzyme was detected in young neurons emanating from the neurogenic subventricular zone. Attempts to raise endogenous levels of L-SOP by crippling the L-SOP metabolizing enzyme (phosphoserine phosphatase), over-expressing the L-SOP synthesizing enzyme (phosphoserine aminotransferase), or through dietary protein restriction, to study the effects on neurotransmission and neurodevelopment in the central nervous system (CNS) were unsuccessful, suggesting that the production of L-SOP remains stable despite manipulation of the synthetic and metabolic enzymes. Finally, the ability of L-SOP to modulate glutamate release from presynaptic terminals was examined in cerebellar synaptosomes. Co-incident activation of presynaptic mGluR4 and presynaptic GABAA receptors facilitated glutamate release, suggesting that simultaneous activation of parallel fibers and Bergmann glia may serve to enhance synaptic transmission. This observation expands the traditional view of Group III mGluRs acting solely as inhibitory autoreceptors. Taken together, these results provide compelling evidence to support the hypothesis that L-SOP is the endogenous agonist at mGluR4, and possibly other Group III mGluRs.
