I start from the hypothesis that games had been closely linked to the leisure sphere and then became autonomous activities and constituted their own field of knowledge, focused on the production of specific dispositions and abilities in individuals in several social contexts, as the work one. This research aimed to analyze the companies that plan and develop games for the work environment in order to comprehend, based on their speeches, the work world, the worker and the abilities which are being acquired from the games these companies produce / O objetivo deste estudo é analisar os jogos e o recente fenômeno do gamification, tomando como referência o ambiente do trabalho.

British cohabitation and the household division of labour

Kozak, Ladislav January 2018 (has links)
The structure of the family unit in the United Kingdom has undergone monumental changes in recent decades. The legal definition of a family has evolved substantially to include a wider range of family forms, most recently same-sex marriage, which became legal in the United Kingdom (excluding Northern Ireland) in 2014. Legal changes in the family accompany a range of social changes - among the most common of these is an expansion in the number of different-sex non-marital co-residential unions (concisely called "cohabitation") (Ermisch and Francesconi, 2000; Beaujouan and Bhrolcháin, 2011). Since the 1970s, these types of relationships have become widely accepted (Coast, 2009) and increasingly common (Office for National Statistics, 2012a). However, despite its prevalence, cohabitation in the United Kingdom is seldom studied independently of marriage. My dissertation strives to fill this gap in the literature. Specifically, my dissertation adds to the understanding of the household division of labour during cohabitation. Instead of merely examining cohabitation as one homogenous relationship type, Chapter 2 profiles three groups of cohabitants: 1) pre-marital cohabitants; 2) non-marital short-term cohabitants; 3) long-term cohabitants who reside together for five years or longer. Subsequent chapters examine how each of these groups, in turn, addresses the household division of labour - pre-marital and early couple formation cohabitation in Chapter 3, couples transitioning from cohabitation to marriage in Chapter 4, and during long-term cohabitation in Chapter 5. This dissertation is a significant contribution to the field of economic sociology because the household division of labour has not yet been explored during cohabitation in this way.

FormalizaÃÃo, flexibilizaÃÃo e mobilidade ocupacional: vivÃncias de trabalhadores na grande Fortaleza / Rewrite the essay on blindness to the movies: reinterpretation of images Formalization, flexibility and occupational mobility: experiences of workers in Fortaleza metropolitan region

Erle Cavalcante Mesquita 18 March 2013 (has links)
This thesis is a study of it depends on both demand and supply for a labour. The space of opportunities brokered by the Public Employment System is the privileged locus of analysis. The empirical research examines the case of the metropolitan labour market of Fortaleza that local people used this type public service intermediary. The analysis focused the period particularly dense the economy and labour market in which the reduction in unemployment is accompanied by greater availability of jobs, especially in the period of "Lula" (2003-2010), when began to formulate the idea that the country was very close to "full employment". Therefore, we used different forms of data collection, mixing quantitative and qualitative features of scientific research. The thesis shows that, amid the revival of formal salaried employment, there may be the latest wave of relaxation of labor relations, intensification of this process which favored larger imbalances between supply and demand for labor, as well as challenges for public policy and workers.

Towards an understanding of the racial identity of bi-racial people: The experience of racial self-identification of African-American/Euro-American adults and the factors affecting their choices of racial identity

Wijeyesinghe, Charmaine 01 January 1992 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to examine how a select group of adults of African-American/Euro-American heritage came to choose or develop a sense of racial identity. The seven participants were women and men who ranged in age from twenty-one to fifty-nine, and who had chosen Black, White, or Mixed racial identities. Utilizing in-depth phenomenological interviewing, participants were asked how their life experiences had led them to choose a particular racial identity, how they experienced the world in light of their chosen identity, and the meaning which they made of their choice of identity given their actual biological racial heritage. The data was presented as in-depth profiles taken from transcripts of the interviews for each participant. In addition, themes which emerged when participants were compared within and across chosen racial identity groups, gender groups, and age groups were highlighted. The factors which were seen as having the most influence on choice of racial identity were past and current cultural affiliations, early experiences and socialization, and physical appearance. Additional factors which played a lesser role in racial identity development included the nature and extent of individual political experiences or orientation, the nature of social values within a given historical period, the biological racial heritage of the individual, and a participant's sense of spirituality and connection to other social identities such as gender, religion, age, and ethnic identity. An individual's awareness of him or herself in relation to race and racism as outlined in existing racial identity development literature was described as another factor which could be utilized to understand choice of racial identity. Each of these individual factors was defined and arranged into a conceptual framework. The interconnections between some of the factors, such as culture and early socialization, were also explored. The experiences of participants were compared with the processes of identity development outlined in select works on Black, White, and Bi-racial populations. The dissertation also presented a number of recommendations for individuals who worked with bi-racial people.

Analyse sociologique des trajectoires d'insertion socio-économique des jeunes au Mali : l'exemple de l'APES / Sociological analysis trajectories socio-economic integration of young people in Mali : exemple APES

Niang, Doudou Ben Béchir 09 July 2019 (has links)
Enfin, pour résoudre ces difficultés, nous préconisons : la formation et le renforcement des capacités des jeunes comme stratégie d’insertion socio-économique ; la promotion de l’entrepreneuriat jeune comme alternative à l’insertion socio-économique des jeunes au Mali / Sociological analysis of trajectories and socio économic integration of young people in Malia : example of APEJ Integration in the professionnal world has become an expanding issue these last years in particularly in Mali, as in other developing nations, where integration can turn into the longest journey. In Mali, this issue concerns first of all the youth, which is the most vulnerable social group. Our research targets the young adults and aims to understand their integration process. We have been investigation mostly with youngsters supported by the « APEJ » which stands for « Agence pour la promotion de l'emploi des jeunes » (agency for the promotion of youth employement), a widespread agency in Mali. Our research involves analysing their integration process to identify potential challenges. To conduct this research, we hypothesized that the challenges that these people come across in their integration process are due to an inadequacy between their training and job requirements on the one hand, and low awareness the culture of entrepreneurship on the other hand. As regards to methods, we have referred to authors who have studied integration and youth, and also reports and statistics. To collect data, we have used both qualitative and quantitative methods with semi-structured interviews and a survey of 460 people. As a result, we have identified 5 different types of social and economical integration process which are: internship-unemployement, internish-employement, contests and examinations, training course – business creation, social network – employement. These different integration processes show the challenges young people have to face: problems due to the quality of education (with inadequacy between these young people experiences and requierments in the worksplace), problems linked to their training profiles and the issue of reconversion, lack of funding and fund management. Lastly, to adress these issues, we suggest to promote training of young people and reinforcement of their squills as an integration strategy, and to promote entrepreneurship as an alternative to integration.

Os Correios em transformação : reestruturação, organização do trabalho e políticas de gestão do trabalho (1994-2011) / The Brazilian Post Office in transformation : restructuring, work organization and labor management policies (1994-2011)

Com a ascensão do PT ao governo, constata-se crescente participação de ex-sindicalistas no quadro de gestores / Abstract: The goal of this thesis is to discuss the transformation of work in the Brazilian Post Office between 1994 and 2011. By focusing on work, this research guides the analysis towards the entanglement between government strategies, market regulation, and the organization of work, management policies and labor relations. This work, therefore, brings together the analysis of changes in work activities and the restructuring of the industry. The research includes an overview of qualitative research, based on interviews with managers, trade unionists and workers, document analysis and direct observations of work activities in operational units. The administration of President Fernando Henrique Cardoso proposed a restructuring of the Brazilian postal services when it presented the "Postal Law" project, which provided for the gradual liberalization and end of the monopoly held by Post Office. The government led by the Workers Party (PT) broke with the proposals of the "Postal Law" and started an organizational restructuring process of the ECT, adapting it to the institutional arrangement of corporations and allowing the establishment of subsidiaries, the internationalization of activities and the incorporation of new market segments. The organization of work was restructured in this period based on the Project for Productivity Management Applied to the Post Office. The restructuring strategy, which was based on the sharing of information on production management methods, adopted management strategies developed in the industrial area for the management of tertiary activities, turning the post office into an industrial producer of services. This meant investing in the automation of the sorting process, modernizing and outsourcing the customer service network and, most of all, reformulating the Home Distribution Centers. In these operating units, the restructuring process resulted in the establishment of labor relations marked by the accelerating pace of activities and a sense that there was little time to meet deadlines. Aspects that make the work activities increasingly fragmented and individualized, since they are focused on each individual employee by adopting the piecework logic. The individualization of goals and responsibilities make dissent and conflict an integral part of interpersonal relationships within the operational unit, funneling grievances not against managerial actions, but against coworkers, individualizing demands for change, and hindering solidarity between workers in collective bargaining. The people management policy in the state company is marked by tension. Wage and benefit policies, in addition to relative employment stability, are instruments to retain the workforce. At the same time, profit sharing schemes since 2003, the introduction of new jobs, wages and career plans in 2008, collective bargaining, and the controversies surrounding the outsourcing of the workforce have led to rising tensions and the judicialisation of labor negotiations. We also see that the workforce is predominantly male and that inequalities of opportunity between men and women are reproduced. With the rise of the PT to the government, there has been an increase in the participation of former unionists in management / Doutorado / Ciencias Sociais / Doutor em Ciências Sociais

Cleaning off stigmas: Domestic work and collective identity building in Uruguay.

Achotegui Sebastian, Elena January 2021 (has links)
Domestic work and care tasks have historically been assigned to women and have never been considered as real work, as they happen within the private scene of the home in both its forms, salaried and unpaid. Due to this conception, dating back from the servitude and slavery systems of the colonial era, and rooted in the patriarchal structure of societies, domestic workers have struggled, and still struggle today in many countries to see their rights recognised. They face stigma and lack an institutional back up. In this sphere, Uruguay sets an example, with one of the most advanced legislations on domestic work in the world after a tripartite negotiation that happened in 2006 between representatives of domestic workers and employers as well as the mediation of the executive power. This research aims to see how the change in legislation changed domestic workers lives and what impact these changes had in the social shared thought. It also looks at the collective identity building of domestic workers in Uruguay through the conduction of interviews with members of the domestic workers’ union, the SUTD. Did the legislative change bring about a cultural change? What lessons can we learn from the Uruguayan case?
