G. Jung regarding archetypal images of the Judeo-Christian mythic field related to the Ageless Wisdom. Thus, it seeks to establish possible linkages of meaning among scattered remarks made by Jung concerning the images of the Jewish Sapientia Dei, the Christian Sanctus Spiritus and the Gnostic Sophia Achamoth. From different writings of Jung, it highlights and systematizes the moments in which the author alluded the images of the Eternal Wisdom while symbolically reflected about themselves or different themes and mythological sections, in order to foment clarification about the modes of action of each of the listed archetypal images / Esta dissertação tem como objetivo a apresentação de uma sistematização crítica das amplificações simbólicas feitas por C. G. Jung acerca de imagens arquetípicas do campo mítico judaico-cristão relacionadas à Eterna Sabedoria.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Dissertação - Isadora Santos Fonseca.pdf: 990190 bytes, checksum: 2bce0de501a71fdd1eacfea393f1f869 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2016-03-30 / CAPES - Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The dissertation “Lírica Líquida: a água na poesia de Cecília Meireles e de Sophia Andresen” (Liquid Lyric: the water in a Cecilia Meireles and Sophia Andresen’s poetry) is the research's final result which main objective was to analyze some poems of the books Mar absoluto e outros poemas, by Cecília Meireles, and Poesia, by Sophia Andresen, for establishing the subjectivity expression composed by the water symbols. As a comparative study, the objective execution was done through specifics objectives which were: list some moments in a XX century, that are able to situate the chosen books; establish a discussion around the creational poetic process used by Cecília Meireles and Sophia Andresen; explain subjectivity and otherness, justifying their presence in the chosen poems; and, finally, establish a comparison or by similarity or by dissimilarity between the poems whose themes and images appear linked to the water element. As a literary analysis, this research was developed through bibliographic methodology, by theoretical and critics texts systematization, as well as selection of poems contained in the chosen books. In this way, this introduction text’s brings some general elements about poetry, the new humanism's theory, by Emmanuel Lévinas, the material imagination theory, by Gaston Bachelard and the thematic criticism theory, considered by Daniel Bergez. The first chapter is composed by contextual elements about the twentieth century that surrounded these author’s poetic production; then, it is listed the literary criticism about Cecília Meireles and Sophia Andresen. The second chapter, by its turn, is constituted by the analysis of the chosen poems in the mentioned books. The third chapter, so, establishes the comparison for similarity or dissimilarity of themes that each one of writers had treated. This dissertation is concluded making a synthesis of the presented discussion in each chapter and proposing that the relation between Cecília Meireles’ and Sophia Andresen’s poetry provides elements for a comparative study based in the influence that cecilian’s poetry has over the andresenian’s poetry and that the subjectivity expression related to the water image, like a mirror, evokes some questions about ethic and static esthetic.

A mechanical model of an axial piston machine

Löfstrand Grip, Rasmus January 2009 (has links)
A mechanical model of an axial piston-type machine with a so-called wobble plate and Z-shaft mechanism is presented. The overall aim is to design and construct an oil-free piston expander demonstrator as a first step to realizing an advanced and compact small-scale steam engine system. The benefits of a small steam engine are negligible NOx emissions (due to continuous, low-temperature combustion), no gearbox needed, fuel flexibility (e.g., can run on biofuel and solar), high part-load efficiency, and low noise. Piston expanders, compared with turbines or clearance-sealed rotary displacement machines, have higher mechanical losses but lower leakage losses, much better part-load efficiency, and for many applications a more favourable (i.e., lower) speed. A piston expander is thus feasible for directly propelling small systems in the vehicular power range. An axial piston machine with minimized contact pressures and sliding velocities, and with properly selected construction materials for steam/water lubrication, should enable completely oil-free operation. An oil-free piston machine also has potential for other applications, for example, as a refrigerant (e.g., CO2) expander in a low-temperature Rankine cycle or as a refrigerant compressor.   An analytical rigid-body kinematics and inverse dynamics model of the machine is presented. The kinematical analysis generates the resulting motion of the integral parts of the machine, fully parameterized. Inverse dynamics is applied when the system motion is completely known, and the method yields required external and internal forces and torques. The analytical model made use of the “Sophia” plug-in developed by Lesser for the simple derivation of rotational matrices relating different coordinate systems and for vector differentiation. Numerical solutions were computed in MATLAB. The results indicate a large load bearing in the conical contact surface between the mechanism’s wobble plate and engine block. The lateral force between piston and cylinder is small compared with that of a comparable machine with a conventional crank mechanism.   This study aims to predict contact loads and sliding velocities in the component interfaces. Such data are needed for bearing and component dimensioning and for selecting materials and coatings. Predicted contact loads together with contact geometries can also be used as input for tribological rig testing. Results from the model have been used to dimension the integral parts, bearings and materials of a physical demonstrator of the super-critical steam expander application as well as in component design and concept studies.

Cultural Heritage and Nationalism : A Case Study of the (re-)conversion of Hagia Sophia into a Mosque

Lales, Efstratios January 2023 (has links)
The aim of this study was to assess the cultural heritage implications of converting Hagia Sophia in Istanbul, Turkey from a museum into a mosque in July 2020. Through analysing cultural heritage management as a tool that could support the building of nationalism, this thesis explores the links between nationalism and cultural heritage. Discourse Analysis was used to answer the research question, facilitating research on the selected texts and the respective political discourses. To study the conversion of Hagia Sophia into a mosque, information was collected through the Internet, with an emphasis on interviews, articles, and tweets from Turkish government officials during the period from the reconversion of the monument to the present day. Discourse analysis shows that in our case, cultural heritage management was used within the context of emotional politics and the pursuit of political objectives of the ruling party with the side effect of disempowering subgroups of the Turkish society whose sense of history and place is not compatible with the prevailing discourse.

Wisdom as Sophia: An Analysis of the Sophiologies of Three 19th-20th Century Russian Philosopher-Theologians--Vladimir Solovyov, Pavel Florensky, and Sergius Bulgakov--Implications for Adult Learning

Giragosian, James Gerard 27 April 2014 (has links)
This study examined the concept of "wisdom" from the perspective of "sophiology"--a current in late nineteenth and early twentieth century Russian religious philosophy--particularly as it was used in the writings of Vladimir Solovyov, Pavel Florensky, and Sergius Bulgakov. The purpose of the study was to examine how the sophiological perspective as developed in these authors could inform an understanding of "wisdom" in the field of adult learning. The nature of "wisdom" has been one of the major themes in both Eastern and Western traditions of philosophical and theological thought for thousands of years. In the mid-nineteenth century, however, the epistemological tendency to approach the world exclusively from the standpoint of observation and experiment reduced "wisdom" to nothing more than technical knowledge verified by experience. The concept/construct of wisdom, however, has been experiencing resurgence in the social sciences, including the field of adult learning. My research did not, however, find an instance in which the sophiological perspective had informed the field's understanding of wisdom. For this reason, the perspective of sophiology and its potential contribution to adult learning offered a unique research opportunity. In this study, I sought to add another dimension to the already multi-faceted nature of wisdom in the field of adult learning. I also hoped to enhance the value of sophiological thought by demonstrating its application to a field with which it had not been previously associated. I sought to accomplish these objectives using the method of hermeneutics, an interpretive mode of inquiry with both reproductive and productive aspects. The reproductive aspect established the historical and philosophical context of the three thinkers and discussed how their sophiological texts aided an understanding of their thought as a whole, and vice versa. The productive aspect explored applications of sophiological thought to the field of adult learning. Since I was the "research instrument" for the study, I also introduced the reader to aspects of my own background and experience that prepared me for this interpretive inquiry. / Ph. D.
