The artistic path of Jerzy Grotowski is marked for constant transformation and revision of procedures. Even in the moment that the artist devoted his work to creation of performances, it is possible to identify this movement. However, despite of changes and ruptures, it can be found certain constants. Frequently, Grotowski tried to approximate his artist work to issues related to ritual. Adopting as analytical perspective the themes of spirituality and ritual, this research seeks to find the continuities behind the ruptures in some Grotowski‘s performances. Based in Pierre Hadot and Michel Foucault, the work uses the notion of spirituality in broad sense, not restricted to the religion. From Victor Turner and Richard Schechner, the research proposes to discuss about the relationship and the frictions between scene and ritual in Grotowski‘s proposals. In order to comprehend his works, beyond of the analysis of Grotowski‘s texts, this study was based on the research of Tatiana Motta Lima, about the "Palavras praticadas" of Polish director.

Nenáboženská spiritualita v postmoderní době. Spiritualita a nové paradigma / Non-Religious Spirituality in the Postmodern Era. Spirituality and the New ParadigmNěmečková, Kamila January 2015 (has links)
The main subject of the dissertation Non-Religious Spirituality in the Postmodern Era, subtitled Spirituality and the New Paradigm, is an analysis of non-religious spirituality within the context of the new possibilities revealed by the science of the new paradigm, which are changing the way we view reality and man's place within the universe. The study presents a possible system for classifying contemporary approaches to spirituality, and subsequently outlines a theoretical model for a new discipline enabling the comprehensive study of spirituality within broader interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary contexts. For this newly proposed scientific discipline, the paper suggests the name spirituology. Spirituality, which was discarded by the Cartesian-Newtonian world view is experiencing a renaissance. Spirituality is a comprehensive and multifaceted phenomenon whose definition is still being shaped in contemporary discourse. Although the actual term comes from Christian theology, it is today understood as religiously neutral. It did not fully establish itself in society until the end of the 20th century in relation to the secularization and privatization of religion, when it replaced the previously used term "religiosity", which is strongly associated with the institution of religion. An appraisal of the spirituality of Methodist women in post apartheid South AfricaPreston, Anne 31 December 2007 (has links)
This thesis will examine the issues of women's spirituality, suffering, their survival in the midst of suffering. These issues will be examined in the context of a post-apartheid South Africa within a Christian framework looking at issues of faith and spirituality. More particularly the Methodist church will be examined, looking at key aspects of its spirituality and how that might have contributed and provided for its women. Two of the Methodist Women's organisations, the Women's Manyano and the Women's Auxiliary will be looked at; their history and significant aspects of their programmes and structures that have led them to be important places for the women who are part of them. The thesis will seek to determine how the Methodist Women's organisations have impacted the spirituality of two women especially when they have gone through difficult times. The lives of these two women are examined through conversations the author has with them. In particular the author will examine particular circumstances of these women and seek to set them against a background of their spirituality and in particular whether their particular Methodist organisation played any role during this time. / Christian Spirituality, Church History and Missiology / M. Pastorale behoeftes en ervarings van Afrikaanssprekende gelowiges binne die Gereformeerde tradisie wat betrokke raak by kontemplatiewe spiritualiteit / The pastoral needs and experiences of Afrikaans speaking believers in the Reformed tradition involved in contemplative spiritualityVan der Merwe, Hester Maria, M.Th. 11 1900 (has links)
Text in Afrikaans / In this qualitative research study the landscape of the age-old tradition of contemplative spirituality within the context of the reformed tradition was investigated. An empirical study was done to determine the pastoral needs and experiences of Afrikaans speaking believers from the reformed tradition, involved in contemplative spirituality. Questionnaires and qualitative interviews were used for this purpose. The research path has been further shaped by social construction theory as a postmodern approach. This study was born out of my own discovery of the healing qualities of contemplative spirituality and secondly due to the growing demand among Afrikaans speaking reformed believers for exposure to the disciplines of contemplative spirituality. Little research is available on this topic and is it the hope of this research to open new conversations about contemplative spirituality in the Afrikaans reformed tradition. / Philosophy, Practical and Systematic Theology / M. African spirituality set in a context of Batswana ChristiansSegami, Tom Mogorogi 11 1900 (has links)
In transmitting the Gospel, Western missionaries passed on their portrayal of Christ as a European. Conversion to Christianity was aimed more at promoting Western cultural, moral and spiritual issues. Western culture has thus been an obstacle or hindrance to effective cross-cultural communication of the Christian message. Batswana believers are challenged to peel the Western cultural layers off Christianity, in order to reclaim Christ. Batswana Christians will have to dress Christianity in the Tswana cultural heritage if it is to be of any lasting significance to them. Christian spirituality is centred on Jesus Christ, in the worldview of all Christians. Jesus joins faith and culture together. If Christianity is truly universal, then every culture should surrender to Jesus Christ and not to any other culture. Jesus’ question “who do you say that I am?” (Mk 8: 29), challenges Batswana Christians to write their own fifth Gospel. / Christian Spirituality Church History and Missiology / Thesis (M. Th. An overview of the value and effect of an integration of Christian spirituality and ethicsStavridis, Glenn Brian 11 1900 (has links)
The modern world is experiencing a spiritual and moral cns1s. Associated with this,
Christian spirituality and ethics have become separated in the life of the individual
Christian and the community of the church. The Christian understanding of human beings
and the integrated nature of spirituality and ethics provides a solution to this crisis.
Christian spirituality and morality both originate in the character and purposes of God as
revealed in the biblical record. The value and effects of the integral relationship between
spirituality and morality can be traced throughout scripture and the history of the church.
The. encounter and relationship with God, in Jesus Christ and through the presence and
power of God's Spirit, transforms the disciple of Christ, which means that spirituality is the
basic framework and motivation for morality. Integrated spiritual and moral formation
creates moral character and moral communities which enable believers to act with love
and justice. / Christian Spirituality, Church History and Missiology / M.Th. (Christian Spirituality)

A COMMUNION OF LOVE: THE ANIMATING PRINCIPLE BEHIND THE CHRISTOCENTRIC SPIRITUALITY OF ROBERT MURRAY M’CHEYNEStone, Jordan 07 June 2018 (has links)
This study’s main contribution is its aim to reorient the common perception surrounding M’Cheyne’s pursuit of holiness. It argues that rightly understanding M’Cheyne’s spirituality must begin with the fundamental issue of why he pursued the means of grace as he did, before reckoning with how he used those means. Such a reorientation reveals that loving communion with Christ was the driving force for M’Cheyne’s vision of the Christian life.
Chapters 1 through 5 lay the foundation for understanding M’Cheyne’s spirituality. Chapters 6 through 10 expand on that foundation by demonstrating how M’Cheyne’s piety manifested itself in various spheres of his life and ministry.
Chapter 1 states the project’s thesis and surveys the history of studies on M’Cheyne. Chapter 2 offers an overview of M’Cheyne’s life and ministry. Chapter 3 places M’Cheyne in the various contextual streams of his day. Understanding the ecclesiastical, philosophical, cultural, and pastoral contexts in which M’Cheyne lived aids an understanding of M’Cheyne’s spirituality and its subsequent appeal. Chapter 4 analyzes the essential contours of M’Cheyne’s theology. Importantly, his theology was that of the Westminster Standards. Chapter 5 systematizes M’Cheyne’s key thoughts on devotion to Christ. The Song of Songs provided the grammar that marked his conception of pursuing holiness. To grow in Christ is to know the Rose of Sharon, and to commune with the Beloved.
Chapter 6 considers M’Cheyne’s practice of communion with Christ through the means of grace, specifically God’s Word, the sacraments, and prayer. Chapter 7 examines M’Cheyne’s preaching of Christ. His sermons exalted Christ, focusing on Christ as our Surety, Savior, and Judge. Chapter 8 shows M’Cheyne’s dedication to evangelism through his work with children, method of visitation, longing for revival, and strategies for church extension. Chapter 9 highlights an oft-neglected pillar of M’Cheyne’s pursuit of holiness: his Sabbatarian zeal. Chapter 10 assesses M’Cheyne’s eschatology and its effect on his spirituality.

Spiritual Economy: Resources, Labor, and Exchange in Glastonbury and SedonaJanuary 2018 (has links)
abstract: Current data indicates that a growing number of individuals in the English-speaking world are identifying as “spiritual, but not religious” (SBNR). Using ethnographic data collected at two important sites of spiritual pilgrimage and tourism—Glastonbury, England and Sedona, Arizona—this project argues that seekers at these places produce spirituality as much as they consume it. Using the lens of economy, this project examines how seekers conceptualize the (super-) natural resources at these sites, the laborious practices they perform to transform these resources, and the valuation and exchange of the resultant products. In so doing, the project complicates prevailing notions, both among scholars and the public, that contemporary unaffiliated spirituality is predominantly an individualistic consumer process. / Dissertation/Thesis / Doctoral Dissertation Religious Studies 2018
