Soares, Cintia 21 December 2000 (has links)
Orientadores: Maria Regina Wolf Maciel, Antonio Andre Chivanga Barros / Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Faculdade de Engenharia Quimica / Made available in DSpace on 2018-07-27T23:52:32Z (GMT). Os resultados obtidos mostraram-se compatíveis com os dados da literatura / Abstract: Due to the relation with the mass, heat and momentum transfer phenomena, capacity and operational characteristics, thermodynamic properties and the wide relationship with other industrial equipment, the study of the separation processes by distillation becomes very complex, in spite of its extensive use in the chemical and petrochemical industries. For this reason, researches of great scientific relevance are still being developed for better understanding the related phenomena and for allowing the improvement of the operation. Thus, this work presents as objective the experimental study of a distillation column with sieve plates to evaluate the behaviour of the Murphree efficiency, Q'Connell and Barros & Wolf correlations and the mass and heat transfer coefficients along the equipment. The experimental data were obtained used for the validation of the equilibrium and nonequilibrium stage models and of the new efficiency correlation developed by Barros & Wolf. For these purposes, a stainless steel distillation column with eight sieve plates with down comer and a system for the power measuring were designed and built. The column contains eight spaced temperature/sample points. For each experiment, the ethanol feed composition and the heat duty were changed to evaluate the influence of the heat duty on the behaviour of the mole fractions and on the temperature profiles in the column operating at total reflux. After established the steady state, the liquid samples and the temperature were taken in each stage of the column, and the samples were analyzed using the gas chromatography technique. Using the temperature and ethanol and water compositions in each stage and the heat duty supplied to the reboiler, Murphree and Q'Connell efficiency were calculated. The programs involving the equilibrium stage model (with Barros & Wolf correlation) and the nonequilibrium stage model developed in the Laboratory of Separation Process Development (UNICAMP) were used in the simulations at the same conditions of the experiments. The data obtained with simulations were compared with experimental data to corroborate such models. The obtained results showed that the equilibrium stage model and the nonequilibrium stage model reproduce, with great fidelity, the real conditions of the process and they can be used to represent the real behaviour of the mass and heat transfer coefficients along the distillation column / Mestrado / Desenvolvimento de Processos Químicos / Mestre em Engenharia Química

Exploring complexity metrics for artifact- centric business process Models

Marin, Mike Andy 02 1900 (has links)
This study explores complexity metrics for business artifact process models described by Case Management Model and Notation (CMMN). Process models are usually described using Business Process Management (BPM), which is a relatively mature discipline with a large number of practitioners. Over the last few decades a new way of describing data intensive business processes has emerged in BPM literature, for which traditional BPM is no longer adequate. This emerging method, used to describe more flexible processes, is called business artifacts with Guard-Stage-Milestone (GSM). The work on GSM influenced CMMN, which was created to fill a market need for more flexible case management processes for knowledge workers. Complexity metrics have been developed for traditional BPM models, such as the Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN). However, traditional BPM is not suitable for describing GSM or CMMN process models. Therefore, complexity metrics developed for traditional process models may not be applicable to business artifact process models such as CMMN. This study addresses this gap by exploring complexity metrics for business artifact process models using CMMN. The findings of this study have practical implications for the CMMN standard and for the commercial products implementing CMMN. This research makes the following contributions: • The development of a formal description of CMMN using first-order logic. • An exploration of the relationship between CMMN and GSM and the development of transformation procedures between them. • A comparison between the method complexity of CMMN and other popular process methods, including BPMN, Unified Modeling Language (UML) Activity diagrams, and Event-driven Process Charts (EPC). • The creation of a systematic literature review of complexity metrics for process models, which was conducted in order to inform the creation of CMMN metrics. • The identification of a set of complexity metrics for the CMMN standard, which underwent theoretical and empirical validation. This research advances literature in the areas of method complexity, complexity metrics for process models, declarative processes, and research on CMMN by characterizing CMMN method complexity, identifying complexity metrics for CMMN, and exploring the relationship between CMMN and GSM. / School of Computing / Ph. Modelling and simulation of large-scale complex networks

Luo, Hongwei, Hongwei.luo@rmit.edu.au January 2007 (has links)
Real-world large-scale complex networks such as the Internet, social networks and biological networks have increasingly attracted the interest of researchers from many areas. Accurate modelling of the statistical regularities of these large-scale networks is critical to understand their global evolving structures and local dynamical patterns. Traditionally, the Erdos and Renyi random graph model has helped the investigation of various homogeneous networks. During the past decade, a special computational methodology has emerged to study complex networks, the outcome of which is identified by two models: the Watts and Strogatz small-world model and the Barabasi-Albert scale-free model. At the core of the complex network modelling process is the extraction of characteristics of real-world networks. I have developed computer simulation algorithms for study of the properties of current theoretical models as well as for the measurement of two real-world complex networks, which lead to the isolation of three complex network modelling essentials. The main contribution of the thesis is the introduction and study of a new General Two-Stage growth model (GTS Model), which aims to describe and analyze many common-featured real-world complex networks. The tools we use to create the model and later perform many measurements on it consist of computer simulations, numerical analysis and mathematical derivations. In particular, two major cases of this GTS model have been studied. One is named the U-P model, which employs a new functional form of the network growth rule: a linear combination of preferential attachment and uniform attachment. The degree distribution of the model is first studied by computer simulation, while the exact solution is also obtained analytically. Two other important properties of complex networks: the characteristic path length and the clustering coefficient are also extensively investigated, obtaining either analytically derived solutions or numerical results by computer simulations. Furthermore, I demonstrate that the hub-hub interaction behaves in effect as the link between a network's topology and resilience property. The other is called the Hybrid model, which incorporates two stages of growth and studies the transition behaviour between the Erdos and Renyi random graph model and the Barabasi-Albert scale-free model. The Hybrid model is measured by extensive numerical simulations focusing on its degree distribution, characteristic path length and clustering coefficient. Although either of the two cases serves as a new approach to modelling real-world large-scale complex networks, perhaps more importantly, the general two-stage model provides a new theoretical framework for complex network modelling, which can be extended in many ways besides the two studied in this thesis.

Exploring the Control Mechanism of Aggressive Behaviors

Lee, I-Ching Unknown Date (has links)
Based on a behavioral activation mechanism and two behavioral inhibition mechanisms, unlawful and interpersonal male aggression was studied. Moreover, the possibility of individuals’ cognitive, emotional, and behavioral deficiencies was evaluated. Due to the special quality of aggressive behavior, when a person acts aggressively, there will be three processes involved. They are the behavioral activation mechanism activated by reward, the behavioral inhibition mechanism induced by punishment, and the Violence Inhibition Mechanism (VIM) triggered by victims’ cues of distress. In order to study these three processes, two sets of pictures were developed from study 1 in order to evaluate how participants functioned their VIM. The results showed differences between High, Medium, and Low Aggression Group. The High Aggression Group evaluated incidents of moral/ conventional transgression less serious than the other two groups did. Also, they showed less moral emotions and less empathic behaviors than the other two groups did. Based on the sets of pictures developed from Study 1, a group of young offenders were divided into two groups based on their VIM functioning. Further, a survival game was developed from Patterson and Newman’s four-stage model. By manipulating situations to present reward/punishment, those young offenders showed different aggressive patterns. Young offenders with good VIM functioning behaved more aggressively when there were rewards. Relatively, young offenders with poor VIM functioning were less likely to be influenced by either reward or punishment. The implications were discussed in the article.

The effect of cognitive involvement on aesthetic preference and emotion in art appreciation

Chen, Chia Chun Unknown Date (has links)
The increase of aesthetic preference over viewing time was found in the study of the two-stage model of art appreciation. This phenomenon could be interpreted by mere exposure effect on improvement of fluency, not involving the influence from the cognitive processes. However, some theories (Silvia, 2011; Leder et al., 2004) emphasized the interaction between cognition and emotion in aesthetic experience. Based on these two kinds of theoretical perspective, the purpose of this study is to explore the role of cognitive involvement in aesthetic processes, and to understand the relationship between cognition and emotion in aesthetic experience. There are three experiments in this study, using the figurative art paintings from different era, genre and countries as the material. In Experiment 1, the emotional adjectives were collected to develop the scale of aesthetic emotion. In Experiment 2 and 3, the effects of cognitive involvement on aesthetic preference and emotion were tested, respectively. We extended the experiment design from Locher et al. (2007) to manipulate the degree of cognitive involvement additionally, with both the explicit and implicit indexes measured. Overall, the results showed that cognitive involvement helped the increase of preference, but not of emotion, because there was no increase of emotion founded. In addition, the effect of cognitive involvement in Chinese paintings was more obvious than that in West paintings. We also found that there could be adaptation effect in aesthetic process. In conclusion, the importance of cognitive involvement in preference increase was supported. But we cannot confirm the interaction between cognition and emotion. In addition, not only the increase of aesthetic preference and emotion, but also the decrease of them could be found in the second stage of art appreciation.

Facilitating an Industry 4.0 Implementation

Larsson, Louise, Nilsson, Jennie January 2019 (has links)
We are today facing an industrial revolution called Industry 4.0. Earlier in the human history, we have seen multiple industrial revolutions, but only after they actually happened. This is the first time we can see that an industrial revolution is on its way. Witht his knowledge, we have the chance to prepare for this large‐scaled technological change that we are standing in front of. Because of the impact that earlier industrial revolutions had on organizations, we can assume that Industry 4.0, as well, will impact and change work, tasks and the organizations themselves; especially when it comes to new high‐tech knowledge and skills that need to be learnt. Implementation, change, and high‐tech learning, together with a constantly running production can be stressful for anyone involved. For this reason, the purpose of this study is to come up with solutions on how you can facilitate the implementation of Industry 4.0, for employees and in an organizational point of view. We do this by conducting a literature study as well as interviewing organizations within the Swedish manufacturing industry. The structure of the analysis is built upon Lewin’s Three‐stage Model of Change. Here, we discuss and present solutions according to the stage in which they fit during the change process. Additionally, we investigate the concept of gamification as a tool to facilitate change. From our research, we conclude that motivation and engagement are keys in a technological change project such as Industry 4.0. Involvement, transparency and clarity are important aspects to make employees engaged throughout the project. Additionally, we present practical solutions for how organizations can educate their employees within Industry 4.0 techniques, as well as increase their motivation and engagement.

Komparace výstupů z veřejně dostupných překladačů ve směru němčina-čeština / Comparing German-Czech translation output of publicly available machine translation engines

Řehořová, Klára January 2022 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with the quality of the output of publicly available machine translation engines: Amazon Translate, Bing Translator, Deep L and Google Translate. The aim of the thesis was to qualitatively compare each machine translation engine and to test their capabilities on several types of texts - expressive, informative and operative. The analysis is carried out on translations of German texts into Czech. The thesis consists of two parts, in the theoretical part we discuss the origin and development of machine translation, its types, the automatic machine translation engines which are the object of our research, and we present a two-stage model for evaluating the quality of translation. In the empirical part, the results of the analysis based on the models of K. Reiß and A. Torrens are presented. These results show that the listed machine translation engines can be ranked from the highest to the lowest level of output quality as follows: Deep L, Google Translate, Bing Translator and Amazon Translate. Furthermore, it also turns out that the error rate correlates with the creativity of the text.
