Experimentation in Global Software Engineering

Context: Software engineering researchers are guided by research principles to conduct any type of research. Though, there are many guidelines to detail how a particular research method can be applied, there is always a necessity to continue and to improve the existing empirical research strategies. The context of this thesis is to address guidelines for conducting controlled experiments in Global Software Engineering (GSE). With this thesis, the state-of-the-art of conducting experiments in GSE research has been explored. Objectives: The goal of this thesis is to analyze the existing experiments in GSE research. Research problems addressed with GSE experiments and the state-of-the-art of overall GSE experiment design need to be analyzed. Appropriate guidelines should be drawn in order to provide strategies to future GSE researchers in mitigating or solving GSE specific experimentation challenges. Methods: A systematic literature review (SLR) is conducted to review all the GSE experiments that are found in the literature. The search process was done on 6 databases. A specific search and quality assessment criterion is used to select these GSE experiments. Furthermore, scientific interviews are conducted with GSE research experts to evaluate a set of guidelines (thesis author’s recommendations) that address the challenges when conducting GSE experiments. Thematic analysis has been performed to analyze the evaluation results and to further improve or implement any suggestions given by the interviewees. Conclusions: The results obtained from the SLR have provided a chance to understand the state-of-the-art and to analyze the challenges or problems when conducting controlled experiments in GSE. The challenges that are identified in GSE controlled experiments are found to be with experiment study-setting, involving subjects and addressing GSE relevant threats to validity in a GSE experiments. 9 guidelines are framed, with each guideline addressing a specific challenge. The final guidelines (that resulted after interviews) provide effective recommendations to GSE researchers when conducting controlled experiments. / +919441308167

Due to the invention of automated hacking tools, Hacking is not a black art anymore. Even script kiddies can launch attacks in few seconds. Therefore, there is a great emphasize on the Security to protect the resources from camouflage. Intrusion Detection System is also one weapon in the security arsenal. It is the process of monitoring and analyzing information sources in order to detect vicious traffic. With its unique capabilities like monitoring, analyzing, detecting and archiving, IDS assists the organizations to combat against threats, to have a snap-shot of the networks, and to conduct Forensic Analysis. Unfortunately there are myriad products inthe market. Selecting a right product at time is difficult. Due to the wide spread rumors and paranoia, in this work I have presented the state-of-the-art IDS technologies, assessed the products, and evaluated. I have also presented some of the novel challenges that IDS products are suffering. This work will be a great help for pursuing IDS technology and to deploy Intrusion Detection Systems in an organization. It also gives in-depth knowledge of the present IDS challenges.

The document is divided into three parts. The first one briefly provides an introduction to strategies of information retrieval. The second part deals on theoretic basis with tools and information sources for searching on the both surface and deep web. The author also focuses on social web and its special attributes from the searcher's point of view. The third part represents a practical utilization of knowledge from previous parts. Practical part demonstrates on model examples a nature and kind of information we can retrieve from particular resources.

Airgap-less Electric Motor

This dissertation focuses mainly on the airgap-less electric machine. An extensive literature review has been presented along with a systematic study that included analytical modeling, simulation with both steady-state and trasient analysis, prototype building, and experimental validation. In this type of device, the rotor is allowed to touch the stator at a contact point, which maximizes the internal flux and therefore the electromagnetic torque. A higher torque density motor is proposed in this dissertation due to a reduced reluctance caused by zero airgap situation. A comparison with other high torque density electric ma-chines demonstrates the advantages of the proposed machine. Switched reluctance motor for hybrid vehicle, integrated magnetic gear, induction machines, are some examples of the machines with lower torque density than the airgap-less electric machine. This machine will maximize the generated torque allowing these type of machines to be competitive in applications where hydraulic motors are prevalent, i.e., low-speed and high-torque requirements. Hydraulic motor systems face two major problems with their braking system and with low efficiency due to a large number of energy conversion stages (i.e., motor-pump, hydraulic connections and the hydraulic motor itself). The proposed electric motor, unlike hydraulic motors, converts electrical energy directly to mechanical energy with no extra braking system necessary and with higher efficiency. The evolution of the airgap-less electric machine from three poles to 9 bi-poles is discussed in this dissertation. The modeling of this machine with a minimum number of poles is discussed before a generalization is presented. The simulation and analysis of the airgap-less electric motor has been done using Euler integration method as well as Runge Kutta 4th order integration method due to its higher precision. A proof-of-concept electric machine with nine magnetic bipoles is built to validate the theoretical assumptions.

We sought to understand the emergence of the concept of ecovillage since its historical origins as an anti-system movement, as well as its contemporary theoretical foundations, emphasizing the understanding of sustainability in the ecological, economic, social and spiritual dimensions. We also verified its presence in society, especially within the academy, conducting a review study of Brazilian works on ecovillages. From these works and other databases, we built up a map of ecovillages and other projects that identify themselves with the concept in the country, and characterized them, in order to obtain an overview of their dispersion and performance on Brazilian territory. We located ecovillages in seventeen states and in the Federal District too. We identified several enterprises, communities and families also, somehow inspired by the ecovillage ideas to make houses, farms, institutions and various businesses sites more sustainable. Despite the fact that almost 80% of the municipalities that host these initiatives are small, they have a greater presence in regions where the Brazilian urban network is better served by infrastructure and services. This added to the educational and tourist activities existing in a wide way in the ecovillages and related projects showed that, unlike alternative communities of previous times, there is currently active interaction between them and the hegemonic system. Although the science about ecovillages is recent, its multidisciplinarity has enabled studies in twenty major areas of knowledge within Brazilian academy, predominantly in Architecture, Urbanism and Design. We point out the need for greater articulation between researchers with different professional backgrounds who are dedicated to ecovillages for their effective consolidation as a theme in scientific context. / O trabalho investigou a abrang?ncia cient?fica e geogr?fica do fen?meno socioespacial das ecovilas no Brasil. Buscou-se compreender a emerg?ncia do conceito de ecovila desde suas origens hist?ricas como movimento antissistema, at? seus fundamentos te?ricos contempor?neos, destacando-se o entendimento da sustentabilidade nas dimens?es ecol?gica, econ?mica, social e espiritual. Verificou-se tamb?m a presen?a do tema na sociedade, em especial dentro da academia, realizando um estudo de revis?o dos trabalhos brasileiros sobre ecovilas. Ce document présente les travaux de thèse ayant pour objet la recherche et développement d’une technologie co-intégrée HEMT GaN normale-on/normally-off compatible avec les matériaux et procédés technologiques de la technologie normally-on hyperfréquence. Un exposé théorique et une revue de l’état de l’art permettent d’abord d’entrevoir les différentes solutions technologiques qui s’offrent à nous, tout en affirmant et en précisant les applications visées. Différentes briques technologiques sont ensuite développées pour la fabrication de MOS-HEMTs GaN à recess de grille sur des épi-structures à barrière AlGaN ou (Ga)InAlN dédiées aux applications hyperfréquences. Nous insistons sur la possibilité d’intégrer les 2 fonctionnalités normally-off et normally-on de manière monolithique. Les échantillons ainsi réalisés sont ensuite caractérisés électriquement de manière conventionnelle, mais aussi en utilisant des techniques avancées de spectroscopie de pièges comme les paramètres S à basse fréquence et la mesure du transitoire de RON. Bien que certains phénomènes de piègeage dans l’oxyde de grille soient mis en évidence, les résultats sont très satisfaisants : des composants normally-off sont obtenus pour les 2 structures, et les performances sont au niveau de l’état de l’art mondial, avec plusieurs pistes d’amélioration en perspective. / This document reports on research and development efforts towards a normally-on/normally-off integrated GaN HEMT technology that remains compatible with the material and processing dedicated to normally-on microwave devices. Following several theoretical considerations, the state-of-the-art is presented, which gives a perspective on the available technological solutions and helps define the specifications and the targeted applications. The development and optimization of new process steps enables the fabrication of gate-recessed MOS-HEMTs on epi-structures with AlGaN or (Ga)InAlN barrier, monolithically integrable with normally-on transistors. The samples are electrically characterized by means of standard measurements and more advanced trap spectroscopy techniques such as low-frequency S-parameters or RON transient monitoring. In spite of oxide-related trapping phenomena, the results are very promising: normally-off devices are obtained for both structures, and the performances are in line with literature accounts while identified possible improvements can be explored.

Psychology is among these areas and is considered one of the references in the construction of knowledge and actions to confront the phenomenon. However, the epistemological foundations of psychological science are quite different, and so, several are his speeches, knowledge produced and ways of conceiving man and the world. This is evident in the publications of psychology on ESCCA. This work aims to achieve a state of the art of psychology publication in Brazil (in the post-graduation - through theses and dissertations - and journals) on the Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children and Adolescents. More specifically try to evidence (a) what conceptions of commercial sexual exploitation of children and adolescents the authors lists, (b) what are aimed at research and publications, (c) how the research and issues are justified, and (d) that theoretical approaches the authors are affiliated and methodological possibilities are applied to range the aim proposed in their work. In order to do so, a survey was conducted in the major index sites (eg, BVS-Psi, Capes, theses and dissertations database of university libraries) of the material, covering the period 1990 to 2007. Through research on these sites, we built a database, including information relating to the work sought from specific descriptors for studies in the area of victimization of children and adolescents, with reference to a list provided by Faleiros (2000). After reading the summary of the work, the number of recovered 25 productions was reached - including theses, dissertations and articles. For analysis of the material used in the analysis of thematic content. Two axes themes were established in order to guide the analysis: conceptual elements of commercial sexual exploitation, and theoretical and methodological strategies employed. The axes have as reference for analysis a chapter built on the concept of commercial sexual exploitation, so that all analysis is anchored on it. The analysis points to the existence, still strong, conceptual and terminological confusion about ESCCA. Few studies have not demonstrated this confusion, maintaining a consistent theoretical approach. In relation to the theoretical and methodological strategies, there is a great diversity of approaches in psychology surrounding the phenomenon of ESCCA, enriching levels of understanding and action. This diversity reflects a constitutive heterogeneity of psychological science. We emphasize the perspective of socio-historical psychology, most frequently among the publications. However, despite the relevance of this discussion, the matter only began to be addressed in the second half of the twentieth century, with its inclusion in academic research from the perspective of damage caused to the victims. Debate on intrafamily sexual violence against children and adolescents has intensified in recent decades, particularly with the enactment of the Statute on Children and Adolescents (Federal Law 8069/90), which recognizes children and adolescents as rights holders. Open discussion on the issue meant several fields of knowledge began to study the topic. Particularly prominent among these areas is the field of Psychology, promoting theoretical discussions and practical interventions focusing on this type of violence. Given the theoretical and methodological diversity of psychological science and the many possibilities for the production of knowledge, this study aims to map and debate research conducted in the field that discusses intrafamily sexual violence against children and adolescents in Brazil. To that end, articles published in Psychology journals were analyzed. In order to achieve this objective, a search was conducted of Scielo Brasil using descriptors on the subject, chosen from a list reported by Faleiros (2000). The time frame studied was between 1990 and 2013, therefore included the date of the enactment of the Statute of Children and Adolescents. Qualitative analysis was selected as a data analysis technique around two main themes. The first involved analyzing the concept of intrafamily sexual violence based on its components. The second analytical theme addressed the theoretical and methodological strategies used by the authors. The aim was to identify and discuss the approaches chosen to achieve the proposed objectives as well as the justifications provided by the authors for their research. Analyses of these themes were based on theoretical discussions on intrafamily sexual violence against children and adolescents. Difficulties were identified in conceptualizing intrafamily sexual violence so as to include all its elements and differentiate it from sexual exploitation. The studies assessed showed substantial diversity in both the theoretical and methodological approaches used, contributing to understanding the phenomenon. It is expected that this study will contribute to reflection on intrafamily sexual violence against children and adolescents, promoting new studies and/or practical interventions / A viol?ncia sexual intrafamiliar contra crian?as e adolescentes constitui uma tem?tica extremamente complexa e grave do ponto de vista dos danos causados a esta popula??o. Para ir ao encontro deste objetivo, foi realizada busca no Scielo Brasil, a partir de descritores sobre a tem?tica, escolhidos a partir de uma lista divulgada por Faleiros (2000). O recorte temporal da pesquisa foi entre 1990 a 2013; considerou, portanto, a data de promulga??o do Estatuto da Crian?a e do Adolescente. A An?lise de Conte?do Tem?tica foi o m?todo escolhido para a an?lise dos dados, que se deu atrav?s da constru??o de dois eixos tem?ticos. O primeiro eixo contemplou uma an?lise do conceito de viol?ncia sexual intrafamiliar a partir de seus elementos constitutivos. This doctoral research is linked to the line of Knowledge Research and Educational Practices, the Master\'s and Doctorate Programs in Education at the University of Uberlândia - UFU. Considering the needs presented in the Brazilian educational context, with regard to learning disabilities and scientific production of didactic, as the area responsible for the theoretical basis of educational practices at school, this research was first purpose, seizure of that scientific production. Was elected as an object of study that produced didactic knowledge, embodied in Articles prepared by teachers of the lines of research, the Graduate Program in Education located in the Midwest Region, from 2004 to 2010. This research is justified considering the contributions that a body of knowledge, inferred of the subject matter, can bring to think the educational practice, the constitution of teaching with regard to their investigative field, signal trends, objects being neglected and theoretical foundations that support these productions, which are important to the overall understanding of didactic knowledge produced in the academy and how it can support interventions in school practices. It aimed to unveil the conceptions and the knowledge produced on Teaching in Brazilian graduate, to what extent these views allow or not the teaching-learning relationship that promotes development. The specific guiding objectives were outlined to map scientific production of teaching, understand the constitution of this in teaching and research, analyze and discuss the theoretical and methodological aspects that sustain the knowledge produced, as well as highlight the contributions of the teaching thinking is guided Theory of Developmental Education. To this end, there was a state of the art using as theoretical foundation, the historical materialist method dialectical and theoretical and operational principles of developmental teaching. It was found as the most significant trends that scientific didactics production has prioritized as an object of study, training and professionalization of teachers for performance in higher education, focusing more on the teaching-learning area, the size of the grounds, to the detriment modes and conditions in which teaching is performed. The results indicate the need for education organization intends to provide the student\'s development in the context of the classroom taking into account the formation of theoretical thinking and social and cultural practices, which are embedded in the school routine. Evaluation as a teaching resource that contributes to the quality of teacher education, taking into account that, beyond the realm of academic content, you need to consider creativity, affection, subjectivity, emotional and motivations. How overlooked aspects were identified little expression studies with an interest in early childhood education, primary and secondary education, with total absence of studies on adult education, as well as the relationships that are established in the school\'s organizational structure, materials textbooks used in the special needs presented by students. With regard to the privileged location are few studies that direct their attention to the classroom, to the organization\'s context of school or various locations. / Esta pesquisa de doutoramento vincula-se à linha de pesquisa Saberes e Práticas Educativas, dos Programas de Mestrado e Doutorado em Educação da Universidade de Uberlândia UFU. Considerando as necessidades apresentadas no contexto educacional brasileiro, no que se refere às deficiências de aprendizagens e à produção científica da didática, como área responsável pelo substrato teórico das práticas educativas na escola, essa pesquisa teve como propósito primeiro, a apreensão dessa produção científica. Elegeu-se como objeto de estudo o conhecimento didático produzido, materializado nos artigos elaborados pelos professores das linhas de pesquisas, dos Programas de Pós-graduação em Educação localizados na Região Centro-Oeste, no período de 2004 a 2010. Essa pesquisa se justifica considerando as contribuições que um conjunto de conhecimentos, depreendido do objeto de estudo, pode trazer para pensar a prática educativa, a constituição da didática no que se refere ao seu campo investigativo, sinalizar tendências, objetos que estão sendo negligenciados e fundamentações teóricas que embasam essas produções, as quais são importantes para a compreensão geral do conhecimento didático produzido na academia e como este pode subsidiar as intervenções nas práticas escolares. Objetivou-se desvelar as concepções e os conhecimentos produzidos sobre Didática na pós-graduação brasileira, em que medida essas concepções possibilitam ou não a relação ensino-aprendizagem que promove o desenvolvimento. Os objetivos norteadores específicos foram delineados para mapear a produção científica da didática, compreender a constituição dessa no âmbito do ensino e da pesquisa, analisar e discutir os aspectos teórico-metodológicos que sustentam o conhecimento produzido, assim como, evidenciar as contribuições do pensamento didático pautado na Teoria do Ensino Desenvolvimental. Para tanto, realizou-se um estado da arte utilizando, como fundamento teórico, o método materialista histórico dialético e os princípios teóricos e operacionais da didática desenvolvimental. Constatou-se como tendências mais expressivas que a produção científica da didática tem priorizado, como objeto de estudos, a formação e a profissionalização de professores para atuação no ensino superior, enfocando mais a área de ensino-aprendizagem, na dimensão dos fundamentos, em detrimento dos modos e condições nos quais o ensino é realizado. Os resultados indicam a necessidade da organização do ensino tencionando proporcionar o desenvolvimento do aluno no contexto da sala de aula levando em consideração a formação do pensamento teórico e as práticas sociais e culturais, as quais estão imbricadas no cotidiano da escola. A avaliação como recurso didático que contribui para a qualidade da formação do professor, levando em conta que, além do domínio do conteúdo escolar, é preciso considerar a criatividade, a afetividade, a subjetividade, o emocional e as motivações. Como aspectos negligenciados foram identificados pouca expressividade de estudos que têm interesses na educação infantil, ensino fundamental e médio, com ausência total de estudos sobre a educação de jovens e adultos, assim como, nas relações que se estabelecem na estrutura organizacional da escola, nos materiais didáticos utilizados, nas necessidades especiais apresentadas pelos alunos. No que se refere ao local privilegiado são poucas pesquisas que direcionam suas atenções para a sala de aula, para o contexto da organização da escola ou locais diversos. / Doutor em Educação
