Free living astigmatid mites (Astigmatina): new taxa, rearing and use for mesostigmatid (Mesostigmata) predatory mite production / Ácaros Astigmatina de vida livre (Astigmatina): novos táxons, criação e uso para a produção de ácaros predadores Mesostigmata

Marina Ferraz de Camargo Barbosa 18 April 2016 (has links)
The cohort Astigmatina is divided in two major groups: Psoroptidia, composed mainly by feather and fur mites, and Non-psoroptidia, a dominant component of the acarofauna in ephemeral habitats. In these environments Astigmatina usually are saprophages or feed on fungi or bacteria. Astigmatina protonymphs undergo a complete reorganization of the body structure leading to the production of heteromorphic deutonymphs, generally specialized for dispersion through phoresy using arthropods and vertebrates as phoronts. Although most Astigmatina occur in natural environments, some species live in anthropic environments, such as food deposits, where some of them became pests; some Astigmatina infest subterraneous plant organs. Despite their economic and ecological importance, studies on the diversity and taxonomy of Astigmatina in Brazil have been rare over the last decades. The general objective of this thesis was to collaborate to the knowledge of the diversity and to evaluate the potential practical uses of these mites in Brazil. For this, new genera and species were described, method for rearing dust mites was studied and the efficiency of Astigmatina as prey for edaphic predators was evaluated. A new species of Thyreophagus (Astigmatina: Acaridae) was described based on specimens collected in Brazil, the association of three other species of this genus with stored food was reviewed and a key to all species of this genus was prepared. The genus Neotropacarus (Astigmatina: Acaridae), commonly found on plant leaves, was reviewed with the redescription of two species and description of new species collected in Brazil and from the Philippines. Two new genera and seven new species of Acaridae associated with the bee family Apidae was described and a key to Acaridae genera in subfamily Horstiinae was prepared. Several species of Astigmatina were evaluated as prey for predatory mites Stratiolaelaps scimitus (Womersley) (Mesostigmata: Laelapidae) and Protogamasellopsis zaheri Abo-Shnaf, Castilho and Moraes (Mesostigmata: Rhodacaridae), which oviposited on all evaluated astigmatids, with Tyrophagus putrescentiae (Schrank) and Aleuroglyphus ovatus (Tropeau) (Acaridae) being the most suitable prey. Seven foods and two development period, 30 and 60 days, after the introduction of 400 females of two important dust mite species, Blomia tropicalis van Bronswijk, de Cock e Oshima and Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus (Trouessart) were evaluate. With the most suitable foods, the population growth were higher than 20.2 and 15.3 for B. tropicalis and D. pteronyssinus, respectively.

Because of the problems caused by insects in storehouses, chemicals have been chiefly used in Brazil to control these pests. However, success in solving problems with pests has been limited. In view of this, some aspects about stored grain protection were studied, among which are the following: 1) spray volume effect on grain moisture content, 2) stability of insecticides during sample processing, 3) influence of the emulsifiable concentrate formulation on the physical properties of the liquid, spray characteristics, and deposition of insecticides, 4) insecticide residues in grain and some of their processed products, and 5) effectiveness of insecticides in the control of Sitophilus oryzae (L.), Sitophilus zeamaiszeamais Motsch., and Rhyzopertha dominica (Fabr.). Grain treatment was accomplished by using a twin jet, model TJ-60 8002EVS hydraulic nozzle. The application system was calibrated to provide grain treatment at theoretical concentrations of 10 and/or 0.5 mg kg-1 fenitrothion and esfenvalerate, respectively. The effectiveness experiments were installed at 15 days, 30 days and at monthly intervals thereafter for 12 months after treating the grains, or until mortality ceased in the plots. In the residue experiments, grain samples were collected at zero, 15, 30, 60, 90, 120, 180, 240, and 360 days after treatment, and processed product samples were obtained on the same dates. After spraying the water volumes planned in the study, only a small increase in grain moisture was observed when compared with the initial content. Grains processed together with dry ice provided the greatest insecticide recovery percentages. The emulsifiable concentrate formulation had a great influence on the physical properties of the liquid, spray characteristics, and deposition of insecticides on the grain. The fenitrothion and esfenvalerate residues in wheat grain were concentrated preferentially in the meal and at smaller amounts in the flour. The rate of esfenvalerate degradation did not depend on grain type. During a withholding period of 120 days, the fenitrothion residue was higher than the Maximum Residue Limit (MRL) allowed by Brazilian law, which has been demonstrated to be unsuitable for the regulation of both insecticides. Esfenvalerate was ineffective in controlling the species studied; fenitrothion, however, was effective for the control of S. oryzae and S. zeamais. The SR line of R. dominica was more resistant to the insecticides tested than the CG line. The estimated LC50 values agreed in part with the results obtained in the effectiveness tests. In general, S. oryzae mortality decreased more rapidly than S. zeamais mortality. There was greater mortality of both Sitophilus species on wheat grain than on corn grain. A synergistic effect was verified for the fenitrothion + esfenvalerate mixture in controlling both R. dominica lines. In the absence of insecticides, S. oryzae showed a more numerous offspring on wheat in relation to corn; S. zeamais. however, showed a similar number of offspring on both types of grain. In the control, the R. dominica CG line showed higher numbers of offspring than the SR line, and the contrary was verified when insecticides were applied.

The toxicity of essential oils from Cinnamomum zeylanicum, Eugenia uniflora, Eugenia uvalha, Melaleuca leucadendra, Piper marginatum and Schinus terebinthifolius was compared, through fumigation tests, to that from phosphine, product usually applied in warehouses. Mites were enclosed in screened small cages, allowing ventilation but not mites escaping. The cages were transferred to fumigation glass chambers with 2L capacity. The oils were applied in filter paper straps and fixed at the interior of the chambers. The glass chambers were closed and held in incubator chambers. Mite mortality was assessed after 48 hours of exposure. The mortality data were submitted to normality test and homocedasticity, and the means compared by the Tukey’s test at 5%. The oils from C. zeylanicum, S. terebinthifolius and E. uvalha were the most toxic. The CL50 and CL90 estimates were established for these oils and the eugenol through Probit analysis. The estimates indicated the eugenol as the most toxic treatment towards T. putrescentiae, LC50and LC90 equal to 0.23 μL/L and 14,51 μL/L of air, respectively. For S. pontifica, the LC50 estimate showed the eugenol as the most toxic treatment towards it with an LC50 estimate of 0.57μL/L of air. However, S. terebinthifolius was the most toxic treatment regarding the LC90 estimate, which was 23.48 μL/L of air.

Étude expérimentale et numérique des couplages thermomécaniques, et bilan d'énergie au sein des polycristaux métalliques / Experimental and numerical investigation of thermomechanical couplings and energy balance in metallic polycrystals

Seghir, Rian 27 March 2012 (has links)
Les méthodes proposées contribueront à améliorer les critères d’endommagement basés sur un cadre dissipatif / Strain localization and damage criteria of materials and structures are commonly based on a dissipative framework and this work investigates the thermomechanical couplings accompanying the deformation micromechanisms. It is partly based on experimental data obtained previously in the laboratory by Bodelot for a A316L austenitic stainless steel polycrystal. This work takes profit of a multi-technique approach combining, in particular, in-situ kinematic and thermal fields measurements as well as Orientation Imaging Microscopy, profilometry and surface micrography. Different tools have been developed (1) to automatically identify the activated slip systems directly from the surface micrography, (2) to approach the surface emissivity field allowing an accurate determination of the thermal fields with a 30 mK precision, (3) to project raw experimental fields on the microstructure and (4) to allow the modeling of the polycrystal aggregate and its real thermomechanical boundary conditions by using a crystal plasticity framework within the Abaqus FE code. It has notably been shown that the temperature variations provides an easy and accurate estimation of the macroscopic yield stress at the specimen scale as well as the determination of the Critical Resolved Shear Stress at the intragranular scale. In addition, the local kinematic measurements allow the in-situ identification of the activated slip systems. Experimental and numerical energy balances have been conducted and a great influence of the polycrystalline heterogeneity on the energy storage mechanism has been underlined. The proposed methods would help improving physical based dissipative criteria for damage analysis

Formation de la l'hypertexture Cube {100}<001> dans les alliages cubiques à faces centrées / Formation of sharp Cube texture {100}<001> in the face centered cubic alloys

Ateba Betanda, Yanick Blaise Olivier 01 October 2015 (has links)
Substrate tapes were prepared by cold rolling and annealing of a Fe48%Ni and Ni5%W alloys in order to obtain Sharp Cube {100}<001> oriented substrate for photovoltaic thin films and superconductor cables in particular. The effect of microalloying elements sulfur and niobium on recrystallization and sharp Cube formation was studied in Fe48%Ni. It was shown that the addition of sulfur promotes the formation of Cube grains while the addition of niobium prevents the Cube grains formation. Regarding sulfur, it combines with manganese to form the MnS precipitates wich increases the stored energy difference between Cube component and others cold rolled components ECube/other when sulfur is added. This stored energy difference explains the sharpness of the Cube texture when sulfur is added. On the contrary the niobium microalloying element addition prevents the formation of Cube grains. This could be explained by the fact that stored energy of cold-rolled components decreases with the addition of niobium and thus decreases Cube grains fraction when niobium is added. In order to explain these results, the development of Cube texture during recrystallization has been investigated in detail by EBSD, furthermore, the effect of stored energy has been studied by carrying out neutron diffraction measurements on the deformed states.

Zhang, Yahui 22 June 2018 (has links)
The thesis proposes a multi-scale comprehensive analysis of low cycle fatigue of shape memory alloys (SMAs). First, low cycle fatigue of SMAs is experimentally investigated; comprehensive tensile-tensile fatigue tests under both stress and strain controlled loadings at different frequencies are carried out and results are discussed. Second, a new strain energy-based fatigue criterion is developed; it is shown that the use of total strain energy is a relevant parameter to predict fatigue lifetime of SMAs for different thermomechanical conditions and under different types (strain-control or stress-control) loadings. A physical interpretation of the mechanism related to the low-cycle fatigue of SMAs is then provided based on the conversion of hysteresis work into dissipation and stored energy. Third, fatigue crack initiation during cyclic stress-induced phase transformation is modeled based on transformation induced plasticity (TRIP); it is shown that the maximum temperature during the cyclic loading is a relevant indicator of the fatigue of SMA. Furthermore, the effect of the macroscopic mechanical load on the the fatigue lifetime is addressed as well as the spatial location of crack initiation. Finally, a mechanical training process that allows enhancing resistance to low cycle fatigue of SMAs is proposed.

Is it time to move beyond Stored Procedures?

Najafi Zadeh, Sam, Hellgren, Viktor January 2024 (has links)
This project investigates the feasibility of migrating from an SQL database utilizing complex stored procedures to a NoSQL database, specifically focusing on the Saab application BAAS. The motivation behind the investigation is that the stored procedures are complex to maintain. The aim is to determine whether such a migration can simplify the database structure while maintaining acceptable performance levels. The study involves developing a proof of concept by translating a frequently used SQL stored procedure into application-sided logic implemented with MongoDB, a document-oriented NoSQL database. Performance tests comparing execution times of SQL stored procedures and the NoSQL alternative showed that while SQL stored procedures are faster due to primarily pre-compilation and optimized indexing, the NoSQL solution achieves acceptable execution times and offers enhanced maintainability and flexibility. This report provides a detailed evaluation of the potential benefits and drawbacks of migrating to NoSQL, emphasizing the importance of optimizing indexing strategies to close the performance gap. The findings suggest that, despite the time investment required for migration, the reduction in complexity and improved maintainability may justify the transition for organizations facing similar challenges.

Tratamentos térmicos, cloreto de cálcio e atmosfera modificada em pêssegos \'IAC Douradão\': aspectos fisiológicos, bioquímicos e de qualidade / Heat treatments, calcium chloride and modified atmosphere in IAC Douradão peach: physiological, biochemical and qualitative aspects

Sasaki, Fabiana Fumi 28 August 2009 (has links)
This study was carried out with the objective of evaluate the cold storage potential of \'IAC Douradão\' peach and to determine effects of the heat treatment, calcium chloride application and modified atmosphere on the physiology, biochemistry and quality of this fruit, to increase the shelf-life of this cultivar. For this, five experiments were carried out. In the first, different times and temperatures of heat treatment were applied. Fruit were exposed to 50°C/1h, 50°C/2hs and 20°C/48hs before of the stored at 1°C. In the second experiment, different cycles of intermittent warming during cold storage were evaluated. Fruit were heated to each 5 days at 25°C for 24h; 5 days at 15°C for 48 h; 10 days at 25°C for 24h; and 10 days to 15°C for 48h. In the third experiment, times and temperatures of the cold shock were studied. Fruit were exposed at - 2°C or - 4°C during 1, 2 or 3 hours. In the fourth experiment, CaCl2 application in concentrations ranging from zero to 1.50% were studied. In the fifth experiment, different types of packaging films were evaluated (HDPE, PP 0.06, PP 0.10, and LDPE 0.06 and 0.10). The \'IAC Douradão\' peach can be stored for 20 days without quality losses and light chilling injury symptoms. Heat treatment at 20°C/48hs or intermittent warming in all cycles reduced wooliness until the end of storage, but only the intermittent warming affect the internal browning. For other hand, the cold shock accelerated and intensified the chilling injuries symptoms. Therefore, this technique is not indicated for storage of \'IAC Douradão\' peach. Concentrations of 0.75% to 1.25% of CaCl2 controlled the onset of decay and reduced the incidence of chilling injuries. The use of packaging reduced weight loss, and the packaging LDPE 0.10 was most efficient in reducing chilling injuries and maintaining the other attributes of quality. The PP 0.10 packaging, despite having been effective to reduce chilling injuries, it caused fermentation of the fruit. In all experiments was observed that the treatments that provided higher production of ethylene during cold storage and after exposure of fruit to room temperature caused reduction in symptoms of wooliness.
