Den andra litteraturen : En studie om den utomeuropeiska skönlitteraturens roll i svenskundervisningen på gymnasiet / The Other Literature : A Study About the Role of Foreign Literature in the Swedish Subject in Upper-Secondary School

Ivarsson, Jakob January 2021 (has links)
This study wants to investigate teachers’ choice of literature in the Swedish subject. The aim is to gain insight in the foreign literatures’ role in the Swedish teaching. The research questions that the study is based upon are: What factors are, according to the teachers, affecting their choice of literature? To what extent are teachers using foreign literature? and What cultural value do teachers see in using foreign literature? The theoretic basis consists of a model by Stephen Ball about how subjects are constructed and postcolonial theory. The method that the study uses is a survey, measuring both quality and quantity. The survey was made and sent out through Google Survey. The participants are teachers in the Swedish subject who are active in the profession. Three themes are evident through the answers, the factors that affects the choice of literature, how teachers use the foreign literature and what literature that is considered most important. The teachers work mainly towards the students’ needs, with specific literary themes, where literature is chosen to fit the theme of the teaching. Generally, teachers see potential in using the foreign literature as teaching material, although they mainly use European literature. The teachers consider using foreign literature as a potential of raising topics about universal humanity and tolerance, that would not have been included otherwise. However, they still perceive the European-centered canon as important to include. The conclusion is that teachers tend to use a European based selection of literature, despite seeing a large potential in using foreign literature to develop democratic and humanitarian views on the world.

Rosenlund, David January 2011 (has links)
In this licentiate thesis is the focus is on what tools for handling historical information that is mentioned in the standards for history education in the Swedish upper-secondary school. To what extent these tools are made available for the students by their teachers is also investigated. That is done, by looking at teachers assessment materials. The results show a very low degree of alignment between the standards and the teacher made assessment materials. Theories of history didactics are used to shed light on the results. The pattern that evolves show that most teachers only handle a small part of the standards.

Which RE-subjekt? : he construction of the RE-subject in upper secondary school focusing on the articulations and negotiations in the classroom.

Karlsson, Anders January 2015 (has links)
This thesis aims to describe one educational sequence in religious education. The study shows articulations and negotiations in the religious education classroom, as well as on digital discussion forums. Two questions are the core of the explorative case study. What is communicated between teachers and students in a Re-classroom in Sweden? How does the content of the communication contribute to constructing the Re-subject in two different discussion forums: digital and analogue? The case study follows an upper secondary school class, with 18 years old students, during one teaching sequence. The theoretical foundation is based in a social-cultural perspective. Data is produced by ethnographic methods and consist of classroom observations and interviews with teachers and students. For the interpretation of speech Even’s relief theory is used concerning what is said and Michel Bakhtin’s thoughts on speech genre concerning how it is expressed and negotiated in the teaching sequence. The analysis of the different forums show that in all of them, teachers and students tend to focus on what religious persons do, their appearance, and how they are limited by their faith. The religious persons are compared to a way of living according to a secular norm that the students find more relevant and up-to-date. When speaking of religious persons the students tend to express it in a derisive and disparaging way. Negotiations on content and framework factors interrupt the actual teaching in the classroom environment whilst digital forums are self-regulating and discussions quickly return to the topic after irrelevant digressions. In the discussion part of the thesis the various discussion forums are evaluated didactically. The impact of gender and framework factors on the student-teacher discussions is also raised. An additional question that is problematized is the tension between the curriculum of the subject and the teacher’s desire to get students interested in religion as a subject, described as ‘the teacher’s dilemma’. It is discussed whether this dilemma controls the teacher’s choice of subject. /
Examinator: Stolare, Martin, Docent

Centrum för de samhällsvetenskapliga ämnenas didaktik

martin.stolare@kau.se

Andlighetens ordning : En diskursiv läsning av tidskriften Pilgrim / The Order of Spirituality : A discursive reading of the magazine Pilgrim

Svalfors, Ulrika January 2008 (has links)
This thesis takes as its point of departure the question "is there a connection between ordinary Swedish Christianity and the extreme forms of various examples?". As a way of concidering possible connections, a "normal" spiritual context in the Swedish setting is studied: the Christian magazine "Pilgrim. A magazine for spiritual guidance". The book presents an investigation of the magazine and its notion of spirituality over a period of twelve years (1994-2006). Questions that guide the investigation are: Which are the fundamental notions of spirituality in the magazine? How can someone be spiritual due to the magazine? Which are the bodily norms which are assumed when it comes to gender, sexuality, ethnicity and class? Which connections between the normal and the extreme in contemporary Swedish spirituality can an investigation of Pilgrim as an example of "ordinary" spirituality reveal? The work is carried out as a discursive reading of Pilgrim with the help of Michel Foucault and his notion of "discourse". Furthermore some of the insights from the feminist discussion on so called "intersectionality" are used to widen the methodological scope. More specifically, the magazine is approached as a single textual surface. After qualification of the rules of the discourse, they are applied to identify the discursive formation of Pilgrim. By analyzing the strategies which constitute spiritual guidance, the forms of spirituality (subject positions) that the magazine constructs are revealed. The way that social categories - gender, sexuality, ethinicity, class - are characterized in the magazine reinforce heteronormativity, orientalism and a class-structure. Through the magazine social categories function together with other vital categories in a way that the outcome is one and only construction of the ordinary subject: i.e. the western rich man as a spiritual subject. In conclusion this study suggest that ideas about spiritual growth that flourish in an ordinary Christian cultural and intellectual environment (exemplified by the magazine Pilgrim), like ideas of resistance against the postmodern world and society's superficiality, might have a structure that can be found also in more extreme Christian contexts, and, more importantly, as a part of the problematic of these extreme examples. The extreme resides in the ordinary, and the ordinary resides in the extreme. There seems to be an order of notions, of subjects and of bodies: the Order of Spirituality.
