THE ART OF INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION TELEMETRY BANDWIDTH MANAGEMENT

Cerna, Peter J., Klein, Pamela R., Mullett, Joy 10 1900 (has links)
International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 22-25, 2001 / Riviera Hotel and Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada / The technicalities of sharing telemetry bandwidth have been addressed in design and specification for the builders of the International Space Station. But success in sharing bandwidth comes from building relationships, documenting guidelines, negotiating, understanding human nature, peer review and willingness to participate in an evolving process. The station, 240 miles above Earth, moves through space at 17,000 mph, has its mass added to by humans and machines, regularly docks with visiting spacecraft, has year-round residents, and communicates with space agencies around the globe. Each new module -- with associated computers, multiplexers, and communications buses -- creates additional telemetry demands.

Poetry by post

Capp, Laura 01 December 2013 (has links)
Poetry by Post is a four-month poetry subscription service that will run from November of 2013 to February of 2014. I will produce one mailing per month that will include a letterpress-printed broadside that features a poem of my choosing and an accompanying literary analysis and reply postcard, also letterpress-printed, all contained within calligraphed envelopes and posted with vintage stamps. Subscriptions are available at $150 for the series or $50 for an individual mailing and will not exceed 50 in number. The inaugural Poetry by Post will feature Midwestern poets Jennie Kinneberg Wrisley, Eric McHenry, Catherine Tufariello, and Ted Kooser. I have taken "Midwestern" to mean anyone who has simply spent a good bit of time in the large swath of land in the middle of the U.S. And much like the Midwest, the poetry featured will be plainspoken but no less profound for that.

General Boolean Expressions in Publish-Subscribe Systems

Bittner, Sven January 2008 (has links)
The increasing amount of electronically available information in society today is undeniable. Examples include the numbers of general web pages, scientific publications, and items in online auctions. From a user's perspective, this trend will lead to information overflow. Moreover, information publishers are compromised by this situation, as users have greater difficulty in identifying useful information. Publish-subscribe systems can be applied to cope with the reality of information overflow. In these systems, users specify their information interests as subscriptions and, subsequently, only matching information (event messages) is delivered; uninteresting information is filtered out before reaching users. In this dissertation, we consider content-based publish-subscribe systems, a sophisticated example of these systems. They perform the information-filtering task based on the content of provided information. In order to deal with high numbers of subscriptions and frequencies of event messages, publish-subscribe systems are realized as distributed systems. Advertisements---publisher specifications of potential future event messages---are optionally applied in these systems to reduce the internal distribution of subscriptions. Existing work on content-based publish-subscribe concepts mainly focuses on subscriptions and advertisements as pure conjunctive expressions. Therefore, subscriptions or advertisements using operators other than conjunction need to be canonically converted to disjunctive normal form by these systems. Each conjunctive component is then treated as individual subscription or advertisement. Unfortunately, the size of converted expressions is exponential in the worst case. In this dissertation, we show that the direct support of general Boolean subscriptions and advertisements improves the time and space efficiency of general-purpose content-based publish-subscribe systems. For this purpose, we develop suitable approaches for the filtering and routing of general Boolean expressions in these systems. Our approaches represent solutions to exactly those components of content-based publish-subscribe systems that currently restrict subscriptions and advertisements to conjunctive expressions. On the subscription side, we present an effective generic filtering algorithm, and a novel approach to optimize event routing tables, which we call subscription pruning. To support advertisements, we show how to calculate the overlap between subscriptions and advertisements, and introduce the first designated subscription routing optimization, which we refer to as advertisement pruning. We integrate these approaches into our prototype BoP (BOolean Publish-subscribe) which allows for the full support of general Boolean expressions in its filtering and routing components. In the evaluation part of this dissertation, we empirically analyze our prototypical implementation BoP and compare its algorithms to existing conjunctive solutions. We firstly show that our general-purpose Boolean filtering algorithm is more space- and time-efficient than a general-purpose conjunctive filtering algorithm. Secondly, we illustrate the effectiveness of the subscription pruning routing optimization and compare it to the existing covering optimization approach. Finally, we demonstrate the optimization effect of advertisement pruning while maintaining the existing overlapping relationships in the system.

Podcast aggregation system : with cross platform synchronization

Ström, Erik January 2017 (has links)
The prime objective of this study was to research the possibilities of synchronizing information such as episodic progression and tracking as well as subscriptions in regards to audio podcasting channels , and to do this without the need of consideration to the underlying platforms. An application providing podcatching capabilities is developed and its features determined through the process of comparing similar existing solutions. Based on this comparison a model is shaped and used as a tool of measuring podcatching capabilities of any media playing software, including the very solution resulting from this study. Supporting questions such as how to find and subscribe to podcast channels will be answered through the analysis of syndication feeds , their structure and how its contents may not only be read but also stored to best accomodate requirements deemed as necessary.

Performance measurement in subscription-based businesses: : How subscription-based businesses uses performance measurement and in what way it contributes to lengthen their customer’s duration.

Asplund, Anna, Fröström, Martin January 2020 (has links)

No time to prepare? : A qualitative study of young adults in Sweden and their requested experiences with meal-kit subscription services.

Kristersson, Daniel, Moberg, Sarah January 2021 (has links)
This thesis establishes that the knowledge is limited in customer experience and meal-kit subscriptions written from a business perspective. The current coronavirus pandemic has contributed to a rapid surge for an industry already expected to take more significant portions of the global food market. In conjunction with an attractive business model and increasing competition, there are reasons to believe that a positive customer experience will be of the highest importance for the future of meal-kit subscriptions. The research has chosen the segment of young adults to demonstrate areas for companies to improve. The findings will eventually present solutions for companies to reach a highly desired customer segment before the competitors. Furthermore, the research summarizes how companies can develop the customer experience based on consumer values.

Expanding MIHL subscriber platform services

Marais, Marius 12 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MBA)--Stellenbosch University, 2002. / Some digitised pages may appear illegible due to the condition of the original hard copy. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: It is difficult to dispute the remarkable success that some of the console manufacturers like Sony experienced with the distribution of the Psone and now the Playstation 2 consoles. Nonetheless, the tie ratio (the relationship between the number of games bought per year and the installed base of consoles) is limited on average to only 2.2 games per Psone sold. It is an achievement, though limited considering the 5-year timeframe. The relatively low penetration of games can, amongst other things, be contributed to the retail price of games and the distribution channel in use. On the other hand, the PayTV industry has resolved the concept of content distribution years ago, and has reinvented itself several times along the way, from analogue to digital to personal video recorders. All of these phases had one common feature, some sort of encryption to prevent unauthorised viewing. With the invention of digital data distribution, data transfer speeds in access of 27Mb/s became a standard feature. As a result, it would be fair to say that PayTV perfected the distribution of encrypted data at high speed to devices in consumers' homes. Therefore, it is not inconceivable that a combination of a hard drive and digital subscriber technology, which can communicate to a game console, could create an alternative distribution platform for console games. The combination of the devices could decrease the cost of game distribution, increase the player's choice, decrease <:: the cost to users, and more importantly, create a monthly revenue stream. In this manner, the cost hurdle with respect to games could be reduced, and the penetration and use of game console devices could be increased. The video game industry is a $24 billion business with substantial revenue generated from game distribution. By removing the cost hurdle of game distribution, the penetration of these devices will be accelerated and both parties will benefit. Although the industry is not geared for this type of content delivery, MIHL's knowledge and expertise in signing up exclusive content for their PayTV operation and the group's ability to develop technology solutions will prove valuable in restructuring the games distribution channel.

2030 Volvo Compact Concept

Jia, Haoyue January 2019 (has links)
The project is a vision from the author for future autonomous vehicles in 2030, designed for Volvo. Volvo is one of the pioneering automotive companies for autonomous driving, concerning safety as a priority and taking sustainable responsibility for a better living condition.  In the not too distant future, the author sees people’s perception of mobility will gradually change from traditional private ownership to the ability to move freely. What if a mobility service, coming along with the district you chose to live in, satisfies individual usage needs vary with daily commuting to outdoor trips or moving plans? This type of mobility solution will be ubiquitous, changing the nature of the way people choose to live and move. During the design exploration, the tools varied from ideation sketches, rough package test, photoshop rendering, clay sketching, 3D modelling and experimental display graphic illustrations. This project has been strongly inspired by Scandinavian design and Volvo design principle. Also, the author expressed her vision for Volvo and materials thoughts for components and interior functions. The project outcome is 2030 Volvo Compact Concept, an autonomous sharing and subscription service provided by the residential community.

Service Quality, Customer Satisfaction and Brand Loyalty in the Swedish Subscription Video On Demand-Industry : A mixed methods study on what factors of service quality affect customer satisfaction and brand loyalty within the subscription based video-on- demand services amongst 18-29 year olds in Sweden.

Strand, Elliot, Sandell, Viktor, Berg, Oliver January 2019 (has links)
The main objective of this research is to measure the relation between different dimensions, or constructs of service quality with customer satisfaction and brand loyalty; thereby identifying the most important factors of service quality that affect customer satisfaction and brand loyalty, in the context of subscription video on demand (SVOD) services in the Swedish market. This study utilised a mixed methods approach divided into two stages, whereof the first involved multiple focus groups for collecting qualitative data. The second stage consisted of quantitative data collection through online questionnaires from 122 valid respondents, ranging from the age of 18 to 29 by a non- probability sampling method. SPSS was used to analyse the data with three statistical analysis methods: bivariate correlations, for establishing evidence of construct validity; a reliability analysis to test Cronbach alpha for internal consistency; and multiple regression analysis to examine the relationship between independent and dependent variables. The research findings indicate that there is a positive, significant relationship between customer satisfaction and certain constructs of service quality. Also, findings indicate that the statistical relationship between the constructs of service quality and brand loyalty are partially mediated by customer satisfaction. As a result, companies operating in the Swedish SVOD-industry need to focus on improving the significant factors of service quality, as they may increase customer satisfaction of 18 to 29-year-old customers, and further create long-term relationships as a way of gaining competitive advantage.

Kremer, Ana Paula Schneider January 2017 (has links)
Historically, advertising revenue have been the main source of monetization in the publisher industry, but it´s globally decreasing. On the other hand, circulation revenue, whose origin is directly from final consumer, grows annually in this industry. At the same time, consumer behavior is changing, showing preference for digital solutions. This context requires publishers to rethink their business models and monetizing strategy. This study proposes a digital business revenue appropriate to the context of a publisher in South Brazil. To achieve this goal, a four steps method was empployed: (i) review of the academic literature and non-academic sources; (ii) classification of the models found based on previously defined criteria; (iii) development of a structure and (iv) application of the structure created, based on interviews with experts, as well as the model implement recommendation. Considering the context of a radio that concentrates its activity in sport and news, the result was the recommendation of implementation of a combined model of Subscription and Online Advertising.
