"Syns det inte, finns det inte" : En kvalitativ fallstudie av hinder och möjligheter för resepolicy i Svalövs kommun / "Out of sight, out of mind" : A qualitative case study of barriers and opportunities for travel policy in Svalöv Municipality

Karlsson, Alexandra, Bekteshi Krasniqi, Albulena January 2024 (has links)
Resultaten indikerar att implementeringsprocessen är det viktigaste steget för en väl förankrad resepolicy / Climate change results in elevated temperatures, which can lead to rising sea levels and floods with devastating consequences for animals and human health, food availability, the economy, and the environment. The global climate targets are directed at national governments. By 2045, Sweden should have no net emissions of greenhouse gases. This means that municipalities in Sweden, such as Svalöv Municipality, must work based on their local conditions to achieve these goals. The transport sector accounts for the largest energy use and greenhouse gas emissions. With its new climate and energy plan, Svalöv Municipality aims to reduce the municipality's transport needs. An updated travel policy can be a tool to achieve these goals. The study aims to examine the factors that enable and hinder the implementation of an updated travel policy in Svalöv Municipality. Therefore, the study's research questions are: What obstacles and opportunities are perceived by officials in Svalöv Municipality to comply with a travel policy? And what measures can Svalöv Municipality take to increase awareness and compliance with the new travel policy among its employees?A qualitative case study was conducted in Svalöv Municipality, and empirical data was collected through semi-structured interviews with officials in Svalöv Municipality as well as expert interviews with Malmö Municipality and Lund Municipality. A thematic analysis was conducted on the transcribed interviews. The results showed that the biggest obstacle to compliance with the travel policy is that most people are unaware of its existence, making communication about the travel policy the primary opportunity to improve the current conditions. The results indicate that the implementation process is the most crucial step for a well-anchored travel policy.

Strategic targets and KPIs for improved value chain circularity and sustainability performance : A case study of a large manufacturing enterprise within the energy sector

Jansson, Jonas, Holmberg, Herman January 2022 (has links)
Global consumption levels currently extend far beyond what planet Earth in terms of natural resources can regenerate in a sustainable manor and will by 2050 reach levels corresponding to what it would require three Earths to sustain. This overexploitation and unsustainable management of the Earth’s resources in combination with the necessity of mitigating climate change and reaching net zero CO2 emissions by 2050 require action across all sectors, not least the manufacturing industry. This thesis covers how large manufacturing enterprises can implement and utilize strategic targets and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to align with the principles of a Circular Economy (CE), and as a result, improve sustainability and business performance. Based on a case study conducted at Siemens Energy (SE) involving a literature study, interview study, and focus groups, a carefully selected set of strategic circularity targets and KPIs are presented to measure, evaluate, and drive circularity performance within large manufacturing enterprises. Since the thesis’ ambition was to provide valuable insights beyond SE, strategic circularity targets and KPIs specifically directed at SE were further generalized to be universally relevant for academia and other large manufacturing enterprises. Enterprises within the given sector share several key characteristics such as extensive material resource flows and complex value chains, hence strategic targets and KPIs emphasize material efficiency through decreasing virgin material dependency, increasing recirculation rates, and transitioning towards circular business models. While suggested targets and KPIs are universally directed at large manufacturing enterprises, individual organizations are recommended to conduct internal investigations and analyzes to further tailor and adapt strategic targets and KPIs towards the specific enterprise. In addition to strategic targets and KPIs, the thesis also presents an overview of opportunities, benefits, risks, and potential impacts for large manufacturing enterprises aspiring to increase circular initiatives, highlighting key principles to manage risk and capitalize on opportunities. The findings conclude that the main opportunity enabled by CE is to leverage synergies which align environmental, economic, and strategic corporate incentives, with key benefits including aspects such as decarbonization and reduced environmental impact, increased revenues and cost savings, risk management, and new business opportunities. Risks associated with CE include rebound effects, organizational insufficiencies, lack of material quality and safety, as well as a low product performance, which further can lead to potential impacts mitigating the positive effects of CE, or at worst setbacks causing a net negative output from implemented circular measures. In summary, the opportunities and benefits associated with CE are many, but implemented circular measures require risk awareness and continuous management to ensure efficiency.

Towards an Ontology and Canvas for Strongly Sustainable Business Models: A Systemic Design Science Exploration

13 September 2013 (has links)
An ontology describing the constructs and their inter-relationships for business models has recently been built and evaluated: the Business Model Ontology (BMO). This ontology has been used to conceptually power a popular practitioner visual design tool: the Business Model Canvas (BMC). However, implicitly these works assume that designers of business models all have a singular normative goal: the creation of businesses that are financially profitable. These works perpetuate beliefs and businesses that do not create outcomes aligned with current natural and social science knowledge about long term individual human, societal and ecological flourishing, i.e. outcomes are not strongly sustainable. This limits the applicability and utility of these works. This exploratory research starts to overcome these limitations: creating knowledge of what is required of businesses for strongly sustainable outcomes to emerge and helping business model designers efficiently create high quality (reliable, consistent, effective) strongly sustainable business models. Based on criticism and review, this research project extends the BMO artefact to enable the description all the constructs and their inter-relationships related to a strongly sustainable business model. This results in the Strongly Sustainable Business Model Ontology (SSBMO). To help evaluate the SSBMO a practitioner visual design tool is also developed: the Strongly Sustainable Business Model Canvas (SSBMC). Ontological engineering (from Artificial Intelligence), Design Science and Systems Thinking methodological approaches were combined in a novel manner to create the Systemic Design Science approach used to build and evaluate the SSBMO. Comparative analysis, interviews and case study techniques were used to evaluate the utility of the designed artefacts. Formal 3rd party evaluation with 7 experts and 2 case study companies resulted in validation of the overall approaches used and the utility of the SSBMO. A number of opportunities for improvement, as well as areas for future work, are identified. This thesis includes a number of supplementary graphics included in separate (electronic) files. See “List of Supplementary Materials” for details.
