Troberg, Jenna, Pettersson, Malin January 2016 (has links)

A dimensão ética do turismo sustentável

Souza, Karoline Ketilin Moura 22 February 2013 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The association of the concept of tourism with the sustainable development had the aim of reducing the negative effects and highlighting the positive aspects which this activity could cause to the local communities and to the environment. However, due to the non-agreement among the concepts developed inside the Academy and the tourist actions available in the work market, Mario Beni has called attention to the necessity of deep studies related to the terminologies and concepts largely used in the area. Taking into consideration Beni s ideas and the afford of The World Committee on Tourism Ethics to make the principles of the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism known and the sustainable development possible, this work has as main objective to analyze the ethical dimension of the sustainable tourism according to its highest regulator (WTO). For its realization, were cataloged the following specific objectives: to analyze how the transformations of the ethical principles in technological age focus on the relationship of man with nature and in his social relations; pretend to respect for a new ethic that makes the environment favorable to human development; investigate the ethical foundations of sustainable tourism based on the documents and publications of the World Tourism Organization (WTO). This research required, above all, the methodology of the analysis of text. To base their discussions on ethics and environmental ethics, were analyzed the propositions of Larrère and Larrère, Leff, Rousseau, Santos, Serres and, mainly, of Hans Jonas. On sustainable development, the researches of Sachs, and Leff. To understand the dynamics of tourism, were considered the works of the following scholars: Beni, Krippendorf, Panosso Netto, Dias, Ruschmann, Coriolano, Philippi and Ruschmann, Fennel and Malloy. In addition to these sources, were used publications in international journals that make reference to the theme, such as: Journal of Vacation Marketing, Annals of Tourism Research, Journal of Business Ethics, Revista Estudios y perspectives en turismo. And, as a main source, were analyzed the statements coming from the major conferences of the World Tourism Organization on tourism and sustainability, in addition to the deliberations of the Committee of Ethics for Tourism. The results of this study will encourage the analysis on the concepts of value that predominate in the formulation and planning of public policies, as well as in adoption by local communities and the private sector, strategies for management of sustainable tourism. It also aims to enable the understanding on which the ethical considerations implicit in the development of this activity. Providing an understanding about how tourism promotes the sustainable use, or stimulates principles for an environmental ethics on the part of the actors involved: local community, public bodies and private, as well as tourists.

Volvo Abisko

Vahtola, Antti January 2020 (has links)
Volvo Abisko is proposing the possibility to experience the Arctic wilderness and the surrounding nature in a responsible way. The author has been hiking in the north, every time asking - what if everybody could experience this? Would it be possible to get into the wild with minimal impact on the environment? What if you wouldn’t need the expertise, the knowledge, or even the equipment to get into the pristine nature and to interact with the untouched Arctic? Volvo Abisko is representing the dream of offering this experience for a broader audience. Abisko - Ábeskovvu in the Same language - is one of the oldest national parks in Northern Sweden, which has been home to the Sami who followed herds of wilds between the forest land and the mountains. Ábeskovvu - “the forest by the great water”, where “the great water” refers to Scandinavia’s largest mountain lake Torneträsk. There were several moral questions during the process - is it the right choice to encourage people to visit these pristine areas? If the goal is to reduce the impact on nature, is it the right choice to create a physical service in such a fragile region? During the research and process, the decision was to design something that people can physically visit. Even if the digital appliances open a lot of opportunities, such as virtual traveling by virtual reality, the author believes that the experience is ideal when the user can engage all the senses to feel the surrounding nature. The idea of proposing sustainable development through design, instead of restricting access from people to certain regions, was quiding the project during the way. The creative process followed the boundaries set by the research, and the seamless functionality of the whole service was the priority. Analog sketching was the primary tool to discover shapes, and exploring the form in 3D helped to understand the space and to make multiple objects to work as one. The design focus of this project is transportation as a service, which is applied to the growing Arctic tourism sector. The concept includes an electric vertical takeoff vehicle (eVTOL) and a cabin, which is designed to be used with the vehicle. The vehicle enables a safe and exciting journey into the wild, letting the users observe the environment from the bird’s perspective. Eventually, the vehicle can land on the cabin, which is designed to give shelter for the users to spend time in the wild - being a base for a hiking adventure or just an attractive place to spend a night in solitude.

Sustainability in lodging, a great challenge or utopia? An on-site case study in Sri Lanka

Adolfsson, Julius, Haringa, Ilse, Andy, Irvine January 2018 (has links)
The purpose of this research is to explore the challenges of leaders (lodging owners) when implementing sustainable practices in the lodging industry in Sri Lanka. The authors have used two established models (SPM3 & STM) to create the new model called SLM3, which was used to extract data and measure the perceptions of leaders with a sustainable narrative, when implementing sustainable practices within their lodging in Sri Lanka. This was done in order to bridge a gap for the authors, since there was no established model yet, that could be used for the purpose of this research. After using the model for the current research in the context of Sri Lanka, the authors conclude that the model mostly fulfilled the aim that it was created for, although some minor alterations were made to improve its simplicity and make it more understandable. The main findings are that the main challenges of lodging owners with a sustainable narrative, when implementing sustainable practices are gender equality, lack of collaboration and networks, limited influence, the hierarchical system and long-term thinking related to education. The reported challenges prevent the lodging owners in Sri Lanka from implementing sustainable practices to the extent to which they would like to.
