A Comparison of Profiles of Success in Two Instructional Methods

Williams, John David, 1948- 08 1900 (has links)
The problem of this study was to isolate predictors of academic success in both self-paced classes and lecture classes in Introductory Accounting. The purposes of the study were to determine if learning style, locus of control, reading ability, age, sex, accounting work experience, and prior accounting academic experience are predictors of success in Introductory Accounting classes taught using self-paced methods of instruction and lecture methods of instruction. Another purpose was to determine if there is a difference in the set of predictors of success in the two instructional methods and to provide some direction as to determinants of success which may be addressed by counselors in advising students. The data were collected from 463 students at a suburban community college in the Southwest. Each of the variables was analyzed by a stepwise multiple regression analysis and a backward elimination regression for students grouped according to instructional method. A two-way multivariate analysis of variance was used to examine whether the distribution of scores on the potential predictor variables were equivalent for students in the two teaching methods and for successful completers of the course and noncompleters. Consideration of the data findings of this study permitted the following conclusions: 1. Age and reading ability have a positive relationship to academic success in an Introductory Accounting course taught in a lecture format. 2. Concrete learning style, as measured by the Learning Style Inventory, age, reading ability, and accounting work experience have a positive relationship to success in an Introductory Accounting course taught in a self-paced format. 3. Age, reading ability, accounting work experience, and a concrete learning style have a positive relationship to academic success in Accounting courses taught using either method. 4. There is a difference in the set of predictors of success for Accounting classes taught using the two instructional methods. 5. There are differences between completers and noncompleters of courses regardless of instructional method.

An Experimental Study to Compare Audio-Tutorial Instruction with Traditional Instruction in Beginning Typewriting

Jones, Arvella 08 1900 (has links)
The problem of this study is to compare the effectiveness of two methods of teaching beginning typewriting in the community college. The two methods are an audio-tutorial approach and the traditional textbook approach. Groups taught by the contrasting methods of instruction were compared on the basis of their production performance and their straight-copy skills after thirty-six class periods of instruction. A comparison was also made of the attrition rate of the two groups.

Němečková, Linda January 2015 (has links)
1 ABSTRACT The thesis deals with the options of approach to teaching leaf morphology at lower secondary schools from both theoretical and emprical point of view. The empirical part is then verified on-site within the teaching process. The theoretical part is dedicated to the topic of leaf and particular aspects of the teaching process. The empirical part at first attempts to conduct a survey of the methods and organization forms of teaching applied at particular lower secondary schools within the teaching of leaf morfology. Afterwards, it analyses selected textbooks used for teaching biology. Next part describes suggested methods and organization forms of teaching applied less frequently during the education. The second goal of the thesis is to put in practice the methods and organization forms of teaching within an educational experiment. Afterwards, a didactic test is used at representative schools to verify the efficiency. At the end of the thesis, the results of the following are presented: the observation of teaching leaf morphology, the analysis of the biology textbooks content, and the didactic test. Kooperativní formy výuky a jejich využití na druhém stupni základní školy / Cooperative forms of learning and their use in the upper elementary school

Mitbauerová, Naděžda January 2012 (has links)
On the first pages I tried to theoretically process problems of cooperation and its use from different point of view. The main goal of this work was to discover the teachers' and students' approach on cooperative methods. If they consider them as appropriate, useful and funny as it's written in many other publications. I didn't forget to define essential concepts either. Cooperation itself is in the society dealed with many scientific sectors such as sociology, politic science, psychology, even economy, ecology and last but not least didactics and pedagogy itself. The base for my research was to know as many theoretical aspects on cooperative form of teaching. To make mapping of relevant knowledge about cooperative learning and teaching more meaningful, my work includes empiric part, which describes research survey focused on cooperative teaching form and its use on the second grade on the basic school. The crucial goal of research was to find out what opinion on cooperative forms of education do the teachers and students have and what cooperative method do they consider as the most appropriate. Start from theoretic research preparation and lead to own research performance and evaluation of gain data. In the end of my work I tried to create summary of gain data and their evaluation. Speak now or forever hold your peace : En kvantitativ och kvalitativ studie av muntlig kommunikation i engelska i årskurs 4–6

Berggren, Matilda, Hart, Camilla January 2019 (has links)

Teaching methods for sustainable development : A qualitative study on teachers' teaching methods in grades 4-6, in the nature-oriented subjects and technology.

Lord-Johansson, Anna January 2018 (has links)
Research indicates that more and more people consume our earth's natural resources without them being able to recover and live as if we have more globes than we have. With this as a background, an interest has been developed for how teachers teach about sustainable development in order to create an awareness of the problem of students. The purpose of the study is thus to analyze the teaching methods of teachers in sustainable development in grades 4-6, in the nature-oriented subjects and technology, in Jönköping County. The research questions used to fulfill the purpose of the study have their focus on how teachers work with sustainable development in their teaching, what importance teachers believe that education about sustainable development and how pupils' knowledge of sustainable development is made clear from a teacher's perspective. To achieve the aim of the study, a qualitative method has been used and semi-structured interviews have been conducted with eight teachers around Jönköping County. The material was analyzed using categories to facilitate the processing of the data collection. The analysis of the material and parts of the result are based on and linked to the socio-cultural perspective and the activity theory. The results show different types of teaching that come back to several teachers, including discussions and interdisciplinary work. In the interdisciplinary work, the teachers see a shortage between work with subjects other than the nature-oriented subjects and technology. Furthermore, the importance of education on sustainable development is emphasized, which all teachers in the study regard as an important subject content. The teachers in the study formulate that the students are aware of what sustainable development is, but that some are more engaged than others. Finally, a common form of teaching is highlighted, which all teachers use in teaching sustainable development, namely paper recycling.
