Steenkamp, Peter John January 2013 (has links)
Magister Educationis - MEd / The aim of this study was to investigate the experiences of stress by teachers in the Metropole North, Circuit 6 of the Western Cape, South Africa, The study investigated factors causing teachers to experience stress as well as the levels or extent of their stress, to determine whether teacher stress due to learners, conditions of service, workload, resources for teaching and school-community relations could explain the variance in total stress experienced by teachers and to determine if there is no statistically significant difference in sources of stress based on the biographical variables (age, gender, marital status and tenure) amongst educators in primary schools.

Burgman, Robert, Makrigianni, Marika January 2006 (has links)

In Sweden the latest curriculum, Lpo 94 was released in 1994. This document revolutionized the teaching profession. The school system was changed from a governmental control into a communal control. The earlier curriculums were controlled by rules; Lpo 94 is controlled by aims. This has led to a big spectrum of teaching styles which all of them agrees with the Lpo 94.

Our purpose with this report is to illustrate two different leadershipstyles regarding the subject Swedish. We also want to illustrate how the individual teacher motivates their choice of leadership.

The report takes place in three questions at issue:

· What teaching style agrees best with the Lpo 94?

· How do the two teachers understand their leadership styles?

· What are the pupils’ opinions of the leadership styles?

Our final conclusion is that the pupils prefer the traditional teacher who dictates the terms in the classroom, teaching as well as work procedures. However, the curriculum is relatively modern and the school as an institution has not been able to catch up with the Lpo 94.

The main objective of this research was to determine the differences among the components of burnout in professors from a private university in Lima according to socio-demographic variables. With this aim in mind, a comparative descriptive research design was used. Also, a specific sample quota was not applied. We collected a total population composed of 260 professors of humanities at said educational institution who teach the following courses: Language, Research, Ethics and Citizenship and Creativity Workshop. In addition, we used the Maslach Burnout Inventory Adaptation and a socio-demographic record handout for university professors as measuring instruments. Finally, from the processing and statistical analysis of the data obtained, we found the following: there are significant differences in the levels of emotional exhaustion by sex and class schedule; also, personal fulfillment according to age, marital status, specialty, highest level of educational attainment and years of teaching experience, among other results. Some results of previous research were corroborated or refuted, especially in relation to the variables sex, age, marital status, level of education and class schedule. Also, from this research, it was identified that the place of undergraduate studies, specialty and years of teaching experience, aspects not studied in depth in the previous studies, could be variables associated with some components of burnout. Finally, in addition to the significant differences mentioned, it was concluded that there are average levels of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, distortion of the work environment, personal and professional fulfillment in the teachers who formed the study sample. © 2018 Asociacion Interuniversitaria de Investigacion en Pedagogia. / Revisión por pares

Magistério e identidade docente: um estudo sobre professoras egressas do PEC-Municípios / Teaching profession and teacher identity: a study with teachers from the PEC-Municípios program

Soga, Marcela Oliveira 08 August 2014 (has links)
The work has as its object of study the issue of teacher identity. It focuses on the formative trajectory of a specific group of teachers tenured teachers from public school systems who attended a special higher education training program with the main purpose of analyzing and characterizing the process of identity development at this stage of their professional careers. It takes into account both the formative paths of this group and the context in which emerged the forces that pushed teachers to seek a higher education certificate. In this sense, the work tries to identify possible connections between obtaining a higher education certificate and the representations teachers start to make of themselves as they attend the program. The research is of a qualitative nature. The corpus of the analysis consists of the memoir writing created by the teachers during the course of the program, and of testimonies given by twelve teachers in interviews that were recorded and then transcribed. The empirical framework was the PEC-Municípios program (São Paulo, 2003-2004), described as a presence course with strong support from interactive media, which had as its goal to offer the licentiateship degree to teachers that hitherto had only a secondary school level formation. The theoretical background comes from the concept of identity, based on studies by Bauman (2005) and Dubar (2009, 2005). The questions related to teacher professionalization have as their source the works of Bourdoncle (2000), and to work specifically with the problems of teacher identity the study draws from texts by Lawn (2000) and Garcia et al. (2005). The analyses indicate that both the education and the pedagogical practice are indispensable in the process of identification with the professional activity, and that obtaining a higher education certificate enhanced the teachers self-esteem and their confidence to justify their practices. We have also observed the impermanent and fluid nature of identity, since many teachers had their professional lives marked by fragmentation and uncertainty, and some of them still contemplate other professional choices. Apart from that, the study made clear the importance that the financial security afforded by the public service had in the teachers decision to remain in this profession, a career marred by very low prestige, in view of the financial instability they faced in their life histories.

A urdidura do magistério primário na Corte Imperial: um professor na trama de relações e agências / The weaving of primary teaching in the Imperial Court: a teacher in the web of relationships and agencies

Borges, Angélica 18 September 2014 (has links)
This study aimed at understanding the relationships established by the subjects from the school, as well as their effects on the schooling process and the constitution of the teaching profession in the nineteenth century. Through a game of scales (REVEL, 1998), linking local and global levels, I tried to analyze the different ways of teachers and students families, from public schools in the city of the Imperial Court, operating in dynamic society, when they employ of social strategies that show their conditions and resources, but also constitute themselves in a permanent process of negotiation, mediation and redefinitions of their positions in the social space. To understand the webs established by school actors, I selected a \"thread\" to guide the analysis: the long trajectory of one public primary teacher, Candido Matheus de Faria Pardal. His name constituted a compass, in the molds of Ginzburg (1991), which helped to define ways and strategies of research, analysis and writing. In this sense, the time frame was designed considering the path of life and profession of a \"doyen of public school teachers\", starting from the 1830s and extending to the last decade of the Empire. The sources used are a diverse group of materials such as reports, manuscripts documents and journals of the time. The study is organized in four movements. In the first chapter, I try to analyze the relationships with the government and agencies operated by teachers of the Court who acted with Pardal in the same period. In the second, I tried to analyze the multiple networks established from school subjects, linked to the local dynamics in which the school was located with the emphasis on relationships and agencies formed between teacher, students and residents. In the third, I intended to understand the teachers in the movement of the city through social, cultural and political institutions that allowed the exercise of teacher protagonism. In the last chapter, I aimed at reflecting in the perspective of \"connected histories\" to understand the teachers dialogue with knowledge, subjects or experiences from other places, specifically in connection with France, by Professor Pardal. Thereby, I intended initially to focus on questions around the territory of the teaching profession in the Court. Then I focus on the scale of one school and its location, and then I move the analysis to the activities of the subjects in a broader scenario and understand their connections with other spaces, and so connecting the threads that make the weaving of primary teaching, the story of a teacher of the Court and the places of teaching in the city.

Construção colaborativa de uma proposta de avaliação de professores / Collaborative construction of a motion for teacher evaluation

Cassettari, Nathalia 01 June 2015 (has links)
This thesis presents a reflection on the process of designing a proposal for teacher evaluation developed at a elementary school located in Asa Norte, Brasília. To begin with, a review of the literature was made. That review indicated some important elements that should taken into consideration: the involvement of teachers in the process of designing the proposal; the use of various evaluation tools; the attention to the feasibility, reliability, validity and usefulness of the proposal; the establishment of clear and widely disseminated objectives; the use of pre-established criteria; and the context in which teachers are inserted. In addition to those indications, the fieldwork was based on the precepts of collaborative methodology, in which the various participants of the research collaborate with its preparation, which should collaborate with their development (in this case, professional). Thus, the study aimed to contribute not only to the production of scientific knowledge, but also to the improvement of the work done by the research participants and also with the development of new teacher evaluation proposals - indicating ways that can be used by different qualified personnel in schools and school systems in the process of constructing and applying their own proposals, even if resulting in different designs from those presented in this thesis. The experience hereby reported indicates that it is not only possible but necessary to contest the course taken by teacher evaluation policies in Brazil in a way that allows them to become actual instruments in favor of the development of these professionals and the improvement of the quality of education.

O alunado do curso de pedagogia de instituições públicas e privadas diversificadas: escolha da profissão, práticas culturais e planos profissionais / The student body of the pedagogy course of diversified public and private institutions: career choice, cultural practices and professional plans

Silva, Milena Colazingari da 23 November 2015 (has links)
Using as database four São Paulo universities with significantly different characteristics (PUC-SP, UNIBAN-Anhanguera, UNIFESP and USP) this research, whose data collection occurred in 2013, purposed to identify the profile of graduating students from Pedagogy courses of these four universities, in its socioeconomic and cultural aspects. Furthermore, intended to know the relationship between the students social background and how happened their career choice, the representations about teaching profession and the career expectations and possibilities of complementary studies after course completion, in each of the four universities investigated. In order to achieve that, the research development consisted in the application of a questionnaire, whose resulted data were organized in an Excel spreadsheet and submitted to statistical analysis and the crossing of information through the \"dynamic table\" Excel resource. Examination of data from analysis based on sociological concepts from Pierre Bourdieu identified that the variation in the global cultural capital volume of the respondents directly affected the university profile for which students tended towards attending their under-graduation, as well as the process of professional choice experienced by them. This choice was not here understood as the result of a deliberate decision, but due to actions mediated by habitus, who directed, as in the professional choice, cultural practices, professionals and training plans as well as the representations about the teaching work. Despite the identification of variances in the relative weight of the various types of capital, it was found that UNIBAN-Anhanguera received the students with less privileged social conditions, followed by UNIFESP. On the other hand, PUC-SP and FEUSP tended to receive students with higher economic and cultural capital. In terms of cultural practices, it was noted the preference for activities performed in domestic environment, with low involvement with external and socially distinctive activities. Generally, there is a clear preference for the consumption of massiveness market goods, which require minor possession of a higher cultural apprehension. Professional and training plans of the investigated respondents showed a high interest in playing the profession, since a large part of them expect to work as teachers and / or work in education in diversified areas. Their interest in continuing studies in post-graduation courses reinforces once again the adhesion of students to the professional field for which they were being prepared. Finally, it should be highlighted that the representations about teaching profession showed their possession of a clear understanding of the social function embedded in this activity.

This research, predominantly qualitative, is carried out on a community University in Santos region and is based on Moscovici's Social Representations Theory/SRT (1978, 2010, 2011), and on Dubar (1997, 2003) contributions. Methodological procedures were used in the form of a research survey, a questionnaire composed of open-ended, closed-ended and evocative questions, as well as a focus group and semi-structured interviews. The results have identified a group of students with common characteristics including socioeconomic conditions, dilemmas related to work environment and development of the teaching profession. These approaches have enabled for the comprehension of important aspects related to identity (re)construction of the research subjects from a dimensional analysis of identity and from formative questions, presenting some results. Among those results, we highlight the following: 1) the (re)construction of identity tied to conditions of entering and remaining in the profession, and the opportunities for the development of the teaching profession; 2) the meaning given to graduation expectations and needs in relation to the desire for professional evaluation and recognition, and 3) the building of new RS on issues related to the world of early childhood education, pushed forward by the redefinition of its role in education, and creating integrated political-administrative actions that value and respect the teacher of early childhood education, recognizing his or her specificity and graduation needs.
