The result of the globalization is an intensification of the exchange of goods, capital,information and people between the countries from all over the world. Thus, to adapt to thisprocess, the demand on the labor market changes, skilled people and international knowledgeare required.During the last decade of years, we assisted to an increase of the High Education institutions,which offer to students the opportunity to study abroad. That becomes a strong competitivemarket. Thereby, we assist to an amplification of the student’s mobility because they arelooking for living an unforgettable experience and improving their professional competences.Studies abroad require a lot of preparation. Students have to evaluate the alternatives offeredto them, and according to different factors of selection, they will determine their final choicefor their future university abroad.To attract international students, the universities need to develop marketing strategies. Theyhave to give the most information possible to the student and work on its communication.Selecting a university to go abroad is an important decision that the student has to take.Quantitative and qualitative researches were conducted in this study. The primary data werecollected directly at the university where the authors studied this year, through a survey andseveral interviews. This study contributes to the understanding of the student’s motivationsto study abroad, and determine the different factors that they take into account to select theiruniversity.

A Study of the Construction of Measurement Indicators and the Internationalized Strategies for Higher Education in Taiwan

This study selects five public and private universities as subjects of study, using literature review, theoretical analysis, survey questionnaire of Delphi Technique, interviews in depth with experts, and the SWOT analysis to investigate the appropriateness and accuracy of measurement indicators which are used to evaluate the extent of internationalization for universities by the government in order to establish the measurement indicators of internationalization for Taiwan higher education. Based on the established measurement indicators we propose an integrated strategic plan of internationalization for Taiwan higher education. Based on the results of the study we obtained 6 dimensions such as teachers, students, research internationalization, course internationalization, international visibility and internationalization of administration and campus in addition to 74 criteria as the measurement indicators for the internationalization of Taiwan higher education. After analysis, we found that the measurement indicators of the accreditation institutions of Taiwan higher education are still not profound enough with respect to internationalization one. Current indicators lack of the care of international vision of students and international courses and therefore their accuracy and appropriateness are quite disputable. In internationalization strategy, our research results show that the investment of educational resources by the government is insufficient in comparison with the nearby countries. The subjects under study take majority in common internationalization strategies while showing their differences with respect to their own status, backgrounds, resources, academic specialty domains, and future development. In addition, the international visibility has a great impact on raising university competition ability and it seems that there is still much space of efforts to be put by all the subjects under the study. According to the research results, we suggest that government had better invest more resources at long term basis to assist universities to conduct long term academic interactions in teaching and research cooperation; take the good opportunity of more and more attention of the Chinese culture and the leading position of Taiwan in learning culture level to raise the quality of higher education and develop Taiwan into an academic platform and research center of Asia; while the universities can raise international visibility by participating in international organizations and establishing collaboration relations with foreign universities, develop academic fields that have local characteristics, establish differentiation strategies and create competition advantages. The measurement indicators of internationalization of higher education established by this study can provide as a direction or reference for universities and higher education accreditation institutions in promoting or evaluating their internationalization efforts.

Established in 1983, the Center for Information and Cultural Diffusion, aimed at dealing with the documents accumulated by the libraries. During its implementation, it competed with other documentation units created at the time, highlighting conflicts of jurisdiction, as presented in the analysis of the formation of their collection. A pesquisa desenvolveu-se em torno do seguinte problema: Que desafios e dificuldades podem ser identificadas nos processos de formação do professor universitário e que possibilidades podem ser vislumbradas na busca de aprimoramento dessa formação? Os objetivos do estudo foram: coletar informações que possam contribuir com subsídios para o trabalho dos docentes formadores de professores de ensino superior; conhecer pontos de vista de docentes sobre sua própria formação na pós-graduação e sobre sua atuação no ensino; identificar desafios e dificuldades a serem superadas, e refletir sobre possibilidades no aprimoramento dessa formação. Num estudo exploratório descritivo, consultou-se docentes doutores da Universidade Estadual de Londrina, atuantes nos cursos de bacharelado, a respeito de questões pertinentes à formação docente. Com apoio na discussão e análise dos aspectos relevantes encontrados nos dados coletados confirmou-se a consideração inicial de que a formação do docente universitário é um processo em construção que requer ainda muito investimento e que até o momento tem relegado a um segundo plano os saberes mais relacionados com o ensino ou com a docência propriamente dita. O estudo evidencia a necessidade de resgate da dimensão teleológica da educação e após reflexões sobre desafios e dificuldades da formação do docente universitário, opta por enfatizar a mediação da dimensão ética na busca de caminhos possíveis de aprimoramento dessa formação / Abstract: The focus of this study is teaching in high education institutions, specially regarding to teachers who had not graduated in pedagogical areas. The research was about the following issue: Which challenges and difficulties might be identified in the process of high education teacher formation and which possibilities can be produced to contribute with this process? The aims of the study were: collect information which can be of contribution to professors who prepare the high education teachers; know the teachers¿ points of view about their own formation during the post-graduation course and about their role in teaching; identify the challenges and difficulties to be overcame and reflect about possibilities to improve this formation. In a descriptive exploratory study, teachers with doctorate degree who teach at the bachelor courses at Londrina State University, were consulted about the issues related to the teacher formation. Based on the analysis and discussion of the relevant aspects found in the produced data, the study confirmed the initial consideration, which states that the formation of the high school teacher is a process being developed, that it still requires a lot of investment and that has relegated the knowledge of teaching to a second degree. The study supports the necessity of recovering the purpose dimension of education and, after reflecting about the challenges and difficulties in the formation of the high education teacher, it opts for emphasizing the mediation of the ethics dimension in the search for possible ways of improving this formation / Doutorado / Ensino, Avaliação e Formação de Professores / Doutor em Educação

This essay examines Swedish education institutions and their ways of marketing gender studieson their websites to future students. The purpose was to analyze how the political and scientificambitions of the field are affected by the way it is presented to attract students. The materialcontains of the informative texts from all Swedish institutions that offer gender studies on ahigh education level and the method that was used was discourse analysis inspired by the ideasof Michel Foucault. The essay also describes how feminist activism has affected the genderstudies field historically and the study leans on scientific theories by Ruth Hubbard andThomas Kuhn. It also renders from political theories by Chantal Mouffe. The study shows thatthe way gender studies are presented is highly influenced by neoliberal ideas and the society’svaluing of education that will lead to concrete possibilities of employment for the student. Thisis in conflict with ideas within the gender studies field that lean on a critical perspectivetowards the society and how structural power relation’s work. The gender studies student isconstructed as a person with an interest in gender equality issues and an urge to learn moreabout the way power works in the society as a whole as well as within themselves.

An exploration of experiences and sexual orientation of homosexual (LGBTIs) student of a TVET college in the Limpopo Province, South Africa

MGS / Institute for Gender and Youth Studies / ‘Gonyalelwa lapa’ is a form of a marriage whereby a family marries a woman to a deceased son who passed on without having biological children, for the purpose of restoring or reviving the deceased’s name. The woman is married with her existing children, or to bear children who will take the surname of the deceased man. Women find it difficult to leave such marriages for the fear of losing their children whom they signed off by accepting to be married under this type of marriage. This study employs the feminist standpoint methodological approach in order to explore experiences of women who are married for ‘lapa’. The study purposefully selected a sample of 8 women who are married under ‘Gonyalelwa lapa’ as well as 4 key informants. Findings demonstrate that women marry for ‘lapa’ mainly for economic reasons, to escape stigmatization, for the acquisition of the marital surname, which is tied to being acknowledged, respected and recognized by the community. Nevertheless, these women face multidimensional challenges within their in-laws’ households: they receive no support from the inlaws; their girl-children suffer discrimination based on ‘sex-preference’, boys are given more value on the basis that a boy will be able to perpetuate a deceased man’s name. Most women married under this type of marriage suffer from emotional and economic abuse at the hands of their in-laws. The study reveals that these challenges are attributed to lack of physical presence of the husband in the family. The study recommends that a large scale study be conducted on this or related topic, to build knowledge and create an awareness of such a marriage as to facilitate its inclusion in Customary Marriage Act.

O alunado do curso de pedagogia de instituições públicas e privadas diversificadas: escolha da profissão, práticas culturais e planos profissionais / The student body of the pedagogy course of diversified public and private institutions: career choice, cultural practices and professional plans

Tomando quatro universidades paulistas com características significativamente distintas (PUC-SP, UNIBAN-Anhanguera, UNIFESP e USP) esta pesquisa, cujo levantamento de dados ocorreu no ano de 2013, intencionou identificar qual o perfil dos formandos do curso de Pedagogia presente em cada uma delas, em seus aspectos socioeconômicos e culturais. Além disso, interessou conhecer as relações existentes entre a origem social dos alunos e o modo como seu deu a escolha profissional; suas representações sobre a profissão docente e as expectativas de trabalho e estudos após a conclusão do curso, em meio a cada um dos quatro grupos de alunos investigados. Para tanto, o desenvolvimento deste estudo envolveu a aplicação de um questionário, cujos dados foram organizados em uma planilha excel, passando por estudos de análise estatística e pelo entrecruzamento das informações por meio do recurso tabela dinâmica. O exame dos dados, a partir de análise fundamentada nos conceitos sociológicos de Pierre Bourdieu, permitiu identificar que a variação no volume do capital cultural global dos respondentes afetou diretamente o perfil da universidade para o qual os alunos se dirigiram, bem como o processo de escolha profissional vivenciado pelos mesmos. Tal escolha não foi aqui compreendida como fruto de uma decisão deliberada, mas como resultado de uma ação mediada pelo habitus, que dirigiu, tal como na escolha profissional, as práticas culturais, os planos profissionais e formativos, bem como as representações acerca do trabalho docente. Apesar da identificação de variações no peso relativo dos diferentes tipos de capital, verificou-se que a UNIBAN-Anhanguera recebeu os alunos portadores de condições sociais menos privilegiadas, seguida pela UNIFESP. Por outro lado, a PUC-SP e a FEUSP tenderam a receber alunos portadores de um capital econômico e cultural mais elevados. Em termos de práticas culturais notou-se a preferência pelas atividades desempenhadas no meio doméstico, havendo baixo envolvimento dos mesmos com as atividades externas e socialmente mais distintivas. De modo geral, há uma clara preferência pelo consumo de bens massificados, que pouco exigem por parte do receptor em termos da posse de uma apreensão cultural mais elevada. Os planos profissionais e formativos dos respondentes investigados demonstraram um elevado interesse pelo desempenho da profissão, uma vez que grande parte dos mesmos esperam exercer a docência e/ou atuar no âmbito da educação em espaços diversificados. O interesse pela continuidade dos estudos no âmbito da pós-graduação, reforça mais uma vez a adesão dos alunos ao campo de atuação profissional para o qual estavam sendo preparados. Por fim, deve ser destacado que as representações acerca da profissão docente demonstraram a posse por parte dos mesmos de uma clara compreensão acerca da função social contida nessa atividade. / Using as database four São Paulo universities with significantly different characteristics (PUC-SP, UNIBAN-Anhanguera, UNIFESP and USP) this research, whose data collection occurred in 2013, purposed to identify the profile of graduating students from Pedagogy courses of these four universities, in its socioeconomic and cultural aspects. Furthermore, intended to know the relationship between the students social background and how happened their career choice, the representations about teaching profession and the career expectations and possibilities of complementary studies after course completion, in each of the four universities investigated. In order to achieve that, the research development consisted in the application of a questionnaire, whose resulted data were organized in an Excel spreadsheet and submitted to statistical analysis and the crossing of information through the \"dynamic table\" Excel resource. Examination of data from analysis based on sociological concepts from Pierre Bourdieu identified that the variation in the global cultural capital volume of the respondents directly affected the university profile for which students tended towards attending their under-graduation, as well as the process of professional choice experienced by them. This choice was not here understood as the result of a deliberate decision, but due to actions mediated by habitus, who directed, as in the professional choice, cultural practices, professionals and training plans as well as the representations about the teaching work. Despite the identification of variances in the relative weight of the various types of capital, it was found that UNIBAN-Anhanguera received the students with less privileged social conditions, followed by UNIFESP. On the other hand, PUC-SP and FEUSP tended to receive students with higher economic and cultural capital. In terms of cultural practices, it was noted the preference for activities performed in domestic environment, with low involvement with external and socially distinctive activities. Generally, there is a clear preference for the consumption of massiveness market goods, which require minor possession of a higher cultural apprehension. Professional and training plans of the investigated respondents showed a high interest in playing the profession, since a large part of them expect to work as teachers and / or work in education in diversified areas. Their interest in continuing studies in post-graduation courses reinforces once again the adhesion of students to the professional field for which they were being prepared. Finally, it should be highlighted that the representations about teaching profession showed their possession of a clear understanding of the social function embedded in this activity.

Die Untersuchung hat zum Hauptziel einerseits, die Qualität der von den ivorischen privaten Hochschulen angebotenen Bildungsdienstleistungen zu ermitteln, und andererseits Wege vorzuschlagen, wie man eine Qualitätshochschule entwickelt. Als langfristiges Ziel sollen Staat und Träger der privaten Hochschulen in der Côte d´Ivoire auf die Notwendigkeit sowie Möglichkeiten einer Qualitätssicherung und -entwicklung in den ivorischen privaten Hochschulen aufmerksam gemacht werden. Der Staat sollte diese privaten Ausbildungseinrichtungen nicht nur als eine Lösung zu dem Problem des Defizits an Bildungseinrichtungen im tertiären Bereich betrachten, sondern sollte sich auch für deren Qualität interessieren. Die Bildungsträger ihrerseits sollten sich als Unternehmen verhalten und die Studierenden als Kunden betrachten, die bereit sind, sich an den Konkurrenten zu wenden, wenn die Qualität mangelhaft erscheint. Daher sollte der Gewinn nicht als Ziel betrachtet werden, sondern nur als ein Mittel zur Sicherung der Qualität der Bildung, die letztendlich das Ziel sein sollte.

Research in entry and co-operation model of multinational publishing group with Taiwan and China's publishing industry

Economy in China has been blooming recently. The business potential has drawn attention from all over the world. Now varied industries have started to locate in China. Furthermore, it is believed that the interaction between cross-strait will be very close with the condition that both China and Taiwan have joined in WTO. This research will be focused on 1.The impact and the influence on higher education publishers in Taiwan after both China and Taiwan joined in WTO. 2. Is it a threat or an opportunity to the publishers with the consequent implementation from WTO? 3. What is the role of foreign publishers in Taiwan under this circumstance? As publishing industry in China hasn¡¦t been opened yet, this research will target on the discussion of co-publishing model from cross-strait. Taking a case study and its analysis, it is found that publishing industry has been identified as traditional industry but its upgrade and transition can not be applied to traditional industry. Therefore, the conclusions are as follow: 1. The regulations of publishing in China are still the key factors. 2. The extent of the resource publishers possess is the key factor of entering higher education market in China. 3. Publishers in Taiwan are more flexible to the consequent implementation. 4. Core competence is not equivalent to regional competitive advantage. 5. Market in China will be another opportunity for Taiwan. 6. The position of publishers in Taiwan in Chinese publishing has been changed. 7. Taiwan is the bridge between China and the rest of the world. 8. Each region has its own individual business model. 9. There is a remarkable difference of the process between publishing industry and traditional industry.
