This study aims to understand how, and if, women use smartphones to enhance their safety when out of the home. Proven safety is difficult to measure, especially through a cross-sectional study; this research will assess how and if women feel safer through adapting how they use their smartphone. The primary research is predominately focused on gathering data from within the UK to understand and assess smartphone behaviours there and the impact these behaviours have on safety.  Existing research also focuses on the UK but takes lessons and development findings from across the globe to be applied as a proxy to the study and to better inform the research in the wider communication for development spectrum.   The key questions being addressed are to understand if women feel their safety is enhanced using their smartphone and if so, how they think this safety is being improved by using their smartphone. The final question addresses how these issues are answered and how communication could be enhanced to promote future safety developments within the sphere of women’s physical safety.    Data was conducted through carrying out primary research through quantitative online surveys and qualitative focus groups. The first offered robust data collection for men and women across age ranges, the second enabled for more detailed finding to be uncovered. This research was carried out in the UK (which is the initial focus of the study); this was a practical approach in terms of geographical location and language barriers, but in follow up analysis, it was also possible to find UK specific information on both smartphone usage and women’s safety. This resulted in there being a range of data to work with and analyse. This was useful to then apply comdev theories to and understand potential ways existing approaches could be developed and utilised around the world. Existing literature within the fields of women’s safety and smartphone usage was assessed to glean a more robust understanding and worldly viewpoint. Theoretical themes were addressed through literature research.    The results indicated that women were wary of their physical environments and adjusted or adapted their behaviours through their smartphone usage more so than men did to improve their safety   As this can be considered a broad and complex topic, there are several theories incorporated. For many women across the globe, the digital revolution, and smartphones, have acted as a means of empowerment. They enable humans to connect with one another regardless of where they are. For women, this has had a massive impact on safety by being able to quickly connect with other, they used messaging options with selected friends/family to notify their whereabouts to enhance their safety, others chose location sharing apps; both of which tie in with the idea of an invited space (Tufte); in this case a virtual space of safety, where the outside physical space may pose as danger. To coincide with this, many of the apps mentioned work through participatory methods, whereby users opt in to improve their safety and the safety of others.

In so doing, I also briefly examine some of the possible ideological underpinnings of this resistance, including looking at some of the arguments proposed to counter it. More specifically, I consider how literacy practices, pedagogical practices, and assessment and gatekeeping practices in the field of composition studies impact on and are impacted by the intersection of computer technologies and our field. / Finally, I offer some suggestions for ways in which our pedagogical practices may need to be reconsidered in light of changes in howwe communicate. In particular, I propose guidelines for writing teachers to help negotiate the transitional period between traditional and neo-traditional forms, bridging the gaps between existing standards for producing print documents and as yet undetermined standards required by new forms. That is, I present guidelines that I hope, rather than stifle change, can help guide authors in determining which existing standards make sense for new forms, and which need to be reconsidered, thereby providing the flexibility necessary to cope with change. / Because it is imperative that we consider the effect of our teaching of writing and reading on the further development of these technologies, as well as the effect of further development of these technologies on our teaching and study of writing and reading, I also suggest ways we may need to rethink the academy, including the position of the composition classroom itself. / System requirements: World Wide Web browser and PDF reader. / Mode of access: World Wide Web.

With advancements in AI technology, its application in recruitment has gained prominence due to potential benefits such as increased efficiency, improved candidate selection, and reduced bias. This thesis aims to explore the factors that influence the utilization of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the recruitment process and provides insights on how organizations can leverage these factors to optimize recruitment outcomes. However, several factors impact the successful utilization of AI in recruitment processes. By examining these factors through a comprehensive literature review and empirical analysis, this research emphasize to identify the challenges and opportunities associated with AI implementation in recruitment. Moreover, this study seeks to provide insights for organizations to effectively leverage these factors to optimize recruitment outcomes. The findings highlights the impact of AI adoption in recruitment and identifies strategies and practices that organizations can employ to optimize recruitment outcomes through AI utilization. This study emphasised to combine these strategies to build trust and ensuring transparency and explainability of AI algorithms, and addressing potential biases and discrimination. By examining the factors that influence AI adoption in recruitment, this research provides valuable insights for HR professionals and organizational leaders to leverage AI effectively in the recruitment process. This thesis emphasizes the importance AI adoption in recruitment and taking measures to maximize benefits and minimize risks. It contributes to the expanding knowledge on AI in recruitment, enabling organizations to make informed decisions and optimize recruitment outcomes in the digital transformation era.

Nesta trajetória, o banco Delta Ômega tem colhido frutos promissores da decisão de implantação das agências digitais. A utilização deste estudo de caso para ensino permitirá ao docente abordar os referenciais teóricos de estratégia empresarial, teorias dos recursos da firma e conectá-los às ações promovidas pelo banco Delta Ômega para a implantação dessas agencias do futuro e os seus impactos para os clientes, funcionários e para o banco. / Technological evolution has a vigorous and rapid pace these days and as result organizations are well structured, try to create new strategies, and seek to adjust and to adapt to these new technologies. These changes have caused new challenges in human behavior in the bank, in relation to how to implement these digital agencies and how to manage the new forms of interaction between customers and employees. This case study will allow enable the professor to address to his students important questions regarding fundamental theoretical framework like resource based view, strategic human resources model, the network society and new forms of behavior and new technologies.
