A human-centric perspective exploring the readiness towards smart warehousing: the case of a large retail distribution warehouseMahroof, Kamran 12 January 2018 (has links)
Yes / The explosive rise in technologies has revolutionised the way in which business operate, consumers buy, and the pace at which these activities take place. These advancements continue to have profound impact on business processes across the entire organisation. As such, Logistics and Supply Chain Management (LSCM) are also leveraging benefits from digitisation, allowing organisations to increase efficiency and productivity, whilst also providing greater transparency and accuracy in the movement of goods. While the warehouse is a key component within LSCM, warehousing research remains an understudied area within overall supply chain research, accounting for only a fraction of the overall research within this field. However, of the extant warehouse research, attention has largely been placed on warehouse design, performance and technology use, yet overlooking the determinants of Artificial Intelligence (AI) adoption within warehouses. Accordingly, through proposing an extension of the Technology–Organisation–Environment (TOE) framework, this research explores the barriers and opportunities of AI within the warehouse of a major retailer. The findings for this qualitative study reveal AI challenges resulting from a shortage of both skill and mind-set of operational management, while also uncovering the opportunities presented through existing IT infrastructure and pre-existing AI exposure of management.

Understanding flow and chunking constructs in self service technologiesEsterhuyse, Jacques January 2013 (has links)
When developing new services on SSTs it is very important to keep in mind what the user experience is when using it and that this experience will vary across different types of users. This study intends to investigate the flow experience of users when presented with different types of menu options (chunked / grouped vs. a listed menu) across different types of users.
The research is quantitative and causal in nature, and used an experimental factorial design in the conduct of the research. The TRI and flow scales were used in the questionnaire design and a total of 139 respondents were involved in the experiment. The study found that the impact of flow is greater with lower TRI respondents than with higher TRI respondents on SSTs / Dissertation (MBA)--University of Pretoria, 2013. / ccgibs2014 / Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) / MBA / Unrestricted

This thesis investigates how Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) are implemented within road transport and explores what the potential and intentions of future ITS implementations should be. ITS refers to all information technologies that are used in order to create an improved transport system in terms of safety, effectiveness and sustainability. The study was performed in collaboration with Trafikverket and aims to support them in their work. By conducting interviews, a GAP-analysis made it possible to identify gaps between the current state and the desired state of ITS implementation. The results of the interviews distinguished several common causes for problems with implementation of ITS. Hence, the identified gaps were: responsibility, data exchange and efficiency connections. This study implies that these three gaps are keywords necessary to address in order to solve the identified problems. In order to create an understanding for the future of ITS, a survey was also conducted. The respondents got to evaluate different ITS technologies on a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) scale. Due to the survey, one of the conclusions is to aim for the highest level of TRL for the four technologies identified with a high TRL. Furthermore, this study came to the conclusion that ITS technology currently have two big societal effects; ITS-technology enables behavioral changes among the users and already existing resources can be used more efficiently. The last conclusion of the study concerned the ITS Directive issued by the European Union (EU). The ITS directive has been important in order to advance the implementation of ITS within EU and Sweden. However, a need to further clarify the importance of international collaboration was identified. Also, an upcoming revision of the directive would be beneficial since its changes would address the gaps identified by this study.

Previous issue date: 2009-06-27 / The study of behavior adoption products and services - based technology by the consumer is as a great helper choices for design projects and in targeting market, represented a challenge for new products and technological services therefore means intensive growth of these products, various studies indicate also the frustration of consumers interact with technology acquired. Such evidence are particularly important as consumer beliefs are positively related to your acceptance or resistance in adopt products and technological services. In this context, the readiness to technology emerges as construct fundamental to understanding attitudes on consumer technology. This work is the general objective to propose a method to help engineers electricians in the design project automation home (AR) based on user profile technology from the analysis of personal characteristics, rather evaluating the propensity of individuals with adopt products and technological services air from drivers and inhibitors mental related optimism, inovatividade, discomfort and insecurity. We use as method technology readiness index (TRIx).

L'échange génératif de technologies innovantes : engagement conceptif et conception de la valeur / The generative exchange of innovative technologies : design engagement and value designJean, Fabien 21 December 2016 (has links)
Innovation processes of large companies experience a lack of resources between Research and Development, i.e. the valley of death. Safran created its Innovation Department to counterbalance. It is based on exchanges with the subsidiaries. However such exchanges cannot be processed in most early stages, when they include unknowns. For instance, ideas generated through the DKCP method remain unexplored. This intervention-research aims at establishing a model of collective action to exchange in the unknown. It defends the thesis that, in the unknown, sellers and buyers of innovative technologies engage in the design of the boundary between technologies and environments.Facing the limits of classic models of exchanges of economy, decision, intéressement and creativity, this thesis adopts a design-theories framework. It proposes the model of design engagement of resources. It explains the limits of a common tool for exchanging technologies, i.e. Technology Readiness Levels. It proposes to model exchanges between seller and buyer as the exploration of the Technology-Environment boundary. To do so it constructs the C-K T / C-K E formalism. Finally, the method Steering Exploration Through Technology and Environment Invariants ("Pilotage de l'Exploration Par les Invariants Technologie-Environnement" (PEPITE) in French) is constructed in collaboration with Safran Innovation Department. It is based on two cases of explorations which passed the valley of death within the researchers intervention.
