Optimisation des techniques non invasives d'IRM de perfusion cérébrale et d'imagerie spectroscopique par résonance magnétique pour l'exploration des pathologies cérébrales / Optimization of non-invasive MRI techniques of weighted perfusion and spectroscopic imaging

Lecocq, Angèle 12 December 2014 (has links)
Conventional MRI's lack of specificity in clinical routine limits our ability to perform correct diagnoses or follow-ups of pathological diseases. Two forms of NMR imaging, perfusion weighed and spectroscopic imaging provide information about two closely related characteristics :cerebral perfusion and metabolism. However, these techniques are not widely used due to the complexity of implementation and a lack of quantification. The general aim was to optimize and validate completely non-invasive NMR techniques for further human clinical applications in the context of exploring large cerebral volumes and determining absolute or pseudo-absolute quantification of cerebral perfusion and metabolism. Concerning perfusion, three arterial spin labeling sequences, PASL PICORE, PASL FAIR and pCASL, were compared in terms of sensitivity and reproducibility. The pCASL sequence was then integrated to a protocol applied to patients suffering from multiple sclerosis. In relation to metabolism, a protocol was applied in order to access absolute and pseudo-absolute metabolite quantification by water SI normalization from MRI proton density. This technique was validated on 2D CSI and then on 3D with EPSI sequence with two orientations, AC-PC and AC-PC+15 in order to generate reliable normative values of metabolites for the whole brain. The use of those spectroscopic techniques on patients suffering from multiple sclerosis allowed demonstrating the feasibility in clinic. This work demonstrates that reliable absolute quantification in perfusion weighted and spectroscopic imaging can be obtained with extensive coverage and with an acquisition time compatible with the reality of clinical exams.

Effets de grande échelle en turbulence / Large scale effects in turbulence

Cameron, Alexandre 07 July 2017 (has links)
This manuscript describes how solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations behave in the large scales when forced in the small scales. It analyzes also the large scale behavior of magnetic fields solution of the kinetic induction equation when the velocity is in the small scales. The results were acquired with direct numeric simulation (DNS) using pseudo-spectral algorithms of the equations as well as their Floquet development. In the hydrodynamical case, the Floquet DNS were able to confirm the results of the AKA effect at low Reynolds number and extend them for Reynolds number of order one. The DNS were also used to study AKA-stable flows and identified a new instability that can be interpreted as a negative viscosity effect. In the magnetic case, the alpha effect is observe for a range of scale separation exceed know results by several orders of magnitude. It is also shown that the growth rate of the instability becomes independent of the scale separation once the magnetic field is destabilized in its small scales. The energy spectrum and the correlation time of absolute equilibrium solution of the truncated Euler equation are presented. A new regime where the correlation time is governed by helicity is exhibited. These results are also compared with those coming from large scale modes of solutions of the Navier-Stokes equation forced in the small scales. They show that the correlation time increases with the helicity of the flow.

Transport électronique dans les matériaux et ses applications scientifiques et industrielles / Electronic transport proprieties in the materials scientific and industrials applications

Messaoud, Ahmed 22 December 2017 (has links)
The competence of the laboratory in the field of electronic transport has been extended by a metrological work to specify the scale of thermoelectricity correcting that of alumel. In a second part, we used the excellent precision of the experimental device to measure the Absolute Thermoelectric Power (ATP) of Arcelor samples previously characterized at high temperature by resistivity. Then we determined, for the first time, the electronic transport properties of four pseudo-alloys as function of temperature and studied the effect of their ageing at high temperatures

Evaluation Techniques and Graph-Based Algorithms for Automatic Summarization and Keyphrase Extraction

Hamid, Fahmida 08 1900 (has links)
Automatic text summarization and keyphrase extraction are two interesting areas of research which extend along natural language processing and information retrieval. They have recently become very popular because of their wide applicability. Devising generic techniques for these tasks is challenging due to several issues. Yet we have a good number of intelligent systems performing the tasks. As different systems are designed with different perspectives, evaluating their performances with a generic strategy is crucial. It has also become immensely important to evaluate the performances with minimal human effort. In our work, we focus on designing a relativized scale for evaluating different algorithms. This is our major contribution which challenges the traditional approach of working with an absolute scale. We consider the impact of some of the environment variables (length of the document, references, and system-generated outputs) on the performance. Instead of defining some rigid lengths, we show how to adjust to their variations. We prove a mathematically sound baseline that should work for all kinds of documents. We emphasize automatically determining the syntactic well-formedness of the structures (sentences). We also propose defining an equivalence class for each unit (e.g. word) instead of the exact string matching strategy. We show an evaluation approach that considers the weighted relatedness of multiple references to adjust to the degree of disagreements between the gold standards. We publish the proposed approach as a free tool so that other systems can use it. We have also accumulated a dataset (scientific articles) with a reference summary and keyphrases for each document. Our approach is applicable not only for evaluating single-document based tasks but also for evaluating multiple-document based tasks. We have tested our evaluation method for three intrinsic tasks (taken from DUC 2004 conference), and in all three cases, it correlates positively with ROUGE. Based on our experiments for DUC 2004 Question-Answering task, it correlates with the human decision (extrinsic task) with 36.008% of accuracy. In general, we can state that the proposed relativized scale performs as well as the popular technique (ROUGE) with flexibility for the length of the output. As part of the evaluation we have also devised a new graph-based algorithm focusing on sentiment analysis. The proposed model can extract units (e.g. words or sentences) from the original text belonging either to the positive sentiment-pole or to the negative sentiment-pole. It embeds both (positive and negative) types of sentiment-flow into a single text-graph. The text-graph is composed with words or phrases as nodes, and their relations as edges. By recursively calling two mutually exclusive relations the model builds the final rank of the nodes. Based on the final rank, it splits two segments from the article: one with highly positive sentiment and the other with highly negative sentiments. The output of this model was tested with the non-polar TextRank generated output to quantify how much of the polar summaries actually covers the fact along with sentiment.

Context-dependent voice commands in spoken dialogue systems for home environments : A study on the effect of introducing context-dependent voice commands to a spoken dialogue system for home environments

Dahlgren, Karl January 2013 (has links)
This thesis aims to investigate the eect context could have to interaction between a user and a spoken dialogue system. It was assumed that using context-dependent voice commands instead of absolute semantic voice commands would make the dialogue more natural and also increase the usability. This thesis also investigate if introducing context could aect the user's privacy and if it could expose a threat for the user from a user perspective. Based on an extended literature review of spoken dialogue system, voice recognition, ambient intelligence, human-computer interaction and privacy, a spoken dialogue system was designed and implemented to test the assumption. The test study included two steps: experiment and interview. The participants conducted the dierent scenarios where a spoken dialogue system could be used with both context-dependent commands and absolute semantic commands. Based on these studies, qualitative results regarding natural, usability and privacy validated the authors hypothesis to some extent. The results indicated that the interaction between users and spoken dialogue systems was more natural and increased the usability when using context. The participants did not feel more monitored by the spoken dialogue system when using context. Some participants stated that there could be a theoretical privacy issues, but only if the security measurements were not met. The paper concludes with suggestions for future work in the scientic area.

Stability and Trajectories of Early Supportive Environment and Adolescents' Depression and Mastery

Wu, Minwei 05 1900 (has links)
Previous studies highlighted the importance of parental support for development of mastery of control and depressive symptoms. These studies tended to examine one time wave and outcomes related to that period, forwarding an assumption parenting behaviours do not change as children age. Using the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth 1979-Children and Young Adults, this study filled the gap by examining children's supportive environment at three time points and determining how levels of support across these points impacted children's depression and mastery at 18 years of age. Relative stability of mothers' supportive parenting (i.e., encouragement of social maturity, warmth and affection, and physical punishment) at early childhood, middle childhood, and early adolescence was examined by Kendall's tau correlations. Encouragement of social maturity showed relative stability between early and middle childhood and middle childhood and early adolescence; warmth and affection showed relative stability between early and middle childhood, and physical punishment showed relative stability across all time points. Absolute stability was examined using hierarchical linear modelling and Wilcoxon signed-rank test. No instances were found. Latent class growth analysis identified different trajectories of supportive environment among participants and three groups were identified. Multiple regressions conducted to examine how different trajectories affect late adolescents' depression and mastery found children of mothers from the least supportive group had statistically significant higher level of depression and lower level of mastery of control at 18 years of age; children of mothers from the progressively and continuously supportive group had similarly positive results of depression and mastery.
