This study was carried out with 71 employees from banking institutions in the southern region of the country, who work in activities outside the agencies. The main objective was to evaluate the degrees of Burnout Syndrome in banks in the Southern Region of Brazil from the application of the Maslach Burnout Inventory - General Survey (MBI-GS) scale. The research had quantitative approach, and nature of research by the types descriptive research and having as strategy the field research. The data collection was done through Survey and application of the MBI scale. As a result, the presence of moderate levels of burnout in the banking sector was identified, according to the criteria established by McLaurine (2008), since it would be indicative of high burnout rates of Emotional Exhaustion and Depersonalization and moderate levels of Personal Involvement in Work. In the theoretical reference, Emotional Exhaustion would be the first dimension to appear as indicative of the pathology, presenting a higher score when compared to the other dimensions. According with the Emotional Exhaustion averages, results were obtained that varied from 1.37 to 3.24. In the case of this study, it was verified that the Exhaustion presented an average result of 2.38, indicating that the feeling of exhaustion is frequent in the individuals who were part of this study. When analyzed the levels of cynicism, the levels found in this research range from 1 to 1.61, finding here average in 1.15, characterizing as moderate level of cynicism. The Efficacy dimension in the Work presents its means inverted by the positive aspect of the questions, with results between 4.13 and 5.24, with an average of 4.83, presenting moderate level of work efficiency. The data from this study pointed to a standard deviation considered high, which shows that there may be a very large variation between very low and high levels of burnout among the individuals surveyed. The mean of burnout was 1.62, characterizing as moderate the burnout index. Regarding gender, there was a significant correlation with the components of burnout, indicating that women have a perception of exhaustion, on average, slightly higher than men. In the same way, there is also a tendency for men to have higher average levels of Work Efficacy. Three types of intervention strategies for the prevention and treatment of burnout syndrome were proposed: individual strategies; group strategies; and organizational strategies. The study presented limitations, even before the scientific and methodological rigor used. There is a limitation in the research as a result of the choice of the researched population for accessibility or convenience, as well as the workers chosen in the financial institutions to form a smaller sample, since internal workers are a more representative group of employees. The reduced number of respondents from the sample also represented a limitation. For future work, it is suggested that the study be replicated with internal banking workers and with a larger number of respondents, allowing a more detailed analysis of each sample, as well as replication in other types of industry or regions of Brazil, making it possible to compare the same and between regions. It is also recommended to adopt other measures of burnout syndrome.

Produção de sentido na prática profissional de auxiliares e técnicos de enfermagem / The meaning of work in professional practice of nursing assistants

Oliveira, Walter Lisboa 15 December 2015 (has links)
The objective of the research was comprehending how they give meaning to their work and life. Seeing that experiences of emotional suffering and psychosocial disorders may interfere in the meaning of work, this research has also looked into the quality of work life and the existence of burnout syndrome. Quantitative and qualitative methods were used. The research instruments applied were Maslach Burnout Inventory- Human Services Survey (MBI-HSS), the BPSO-96 scale and a guide of semi structured interviews. The research was carried out at the University Hospital in São Paulo, the scales were applied to 166 health professionals, among assistants and other health professionals. 20 participants were interviewed. The scales were statically analyzed on the whole and segmented samples in two groups, one with nursing assistants and other one with other professionals, so both results were compared. The interviews were categorized and analyzed. The results have shown a high level of depersonalization, a medium level of exhaustion, a low level of personal fulfillment and a medium level of satisfaction with the quality of work life, there has not been a representative statistical difference between the two groups. The hospital was going through a political crisis during the data collection which may have interfered in the results, once the semi structured interviews have revealed insecurity, mourning over the loss of the idealized hospital and feeling of uncertainty towards their professional future. With regard to the meaning of work, the professionals understand that their practice is indispensable for medical treatments. They see themselves as a necessary link between patients and multidisciplinary teams. They also mention social recognition for the work in the health area and satisfaction when taking care of patients, seeing their recovery and gratitude as an important source of meaning in the professional practice

Petersson, Khaliah January 2008 (has links)
The general purpose of this research was to investigate physical activity levels as a correlate of selected aspects of psychological health among pregnant women. Specifically, the aims of the study were (1) to provide a cross-sectional description of changes in physical self-concept, mood, and perceived stress during pregnancy; (2) to evaluate physical activity patterns of pregnant women over time during pregnancy; and (3) to determine if there is a difference between physical activity and physical self-concept, mood, perceived stress and/or burnout symptoms during pregnancy. Participants were pregnant women from various antenatal clinics at King Edward Memorial Hospital. The women completed a questionnaire package containing questions on physical activity levels and measures of physical self-concept, social physique anxiety, perceived stress, mood and burnout symptoms. A series of ANOVAs was used to provide a descriptive profile of how these psychological variables change during the course of pregnancy. Significant time-related differences were found for the perceived health subscale of the PSDQ and the tension subscale for the BRUMS. Findings also suggested a significant association between physical activity, and physical self-perceptions, most importantly self-esteem. Higher levels of physical activity were also found to be closely related to positive mood states, lower levels of perceived stress and fewer burnout symptoms. No significant association was found between physical activity and social physique anxiety.

FICALOVÁ, Barbora January 2010 (has links)
The thesis title is Supervision as a Form of Support in the Helping Professions. The translation of the term of supervision is an insight or inspection into a particular problem. Unfortunately, there are still facilities in which supervision is rather considered as inspection. Currently, there is an effort to prove the usefulness of supervision. To the introduction of supervision as part of good practice for workers in helping professions contributes the document issued by the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs ?Quality Standards for Social Care Services". Especially in helping professions, this topic is an up-to-date subject and supervision is becoming an integral part of functioning of many institutions. In the theoretical section the basic terms such as stress and burnout in helping professions, supervision, its forms, goals and tools are defined. It deals with the supervision process, supervision contract and quality standards for social care services. The practical part consists of a qualitative research. The research was conducted in five organizations in České Budějovice. The information collection was carried out using interrogation techniques, semi-structured interviews with supervised workers, supervisors, and supervision contracting authorities. The objective of the thesis was to identify whether the supervised persons consider supervision to have a supportive or another function. The data were compiled into case reports and the common points compared. The research has found that supervision does provide most respondents with some kind of support. In addition to its supporting function, supervision is seen as having an educational function. The research results document views of supervised persons on supervision, which may be beneficial for contracting authorities, supervisors and the whole organizations. The results may also serve for a better orientation in the issue of supervision.
