Estes resultados concordam com os mecanismos de formação de aglomerações propostos na literatura / Abstract: The fluidized bed technology is considered one of the alternatives that offer greater efficiency and flexibility for the energetic use of solid fuels. The bed material commonly used is silica sand due to its low cost and ease of production. However, the energetic use of agricultural residues in fluidized bed reactors, often present a problem related to the interactions between the bed material and biomass ashes, which generally have high alkali content. This problem is characterized by the agglomeration of the material contained within the bed, which can lead to defluidization and unscheduled shutdowns of the reactor to change the bed material. Among the different mechanisms proposed to counteract the formation of agglomerations during the biomass combustion, the use of alternative bed materials of low content of silica and water leaching of the biomass, become economically viable alternatives. Simultaneous Thermal Analysis (TG/DTA) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) techniques were used to evaluate the trends of the ashes produced from cassava branches to agglomerations, as a result of physicochemical interactions when mixed with sand at high temperatures. Different mixtures between ashes with alumina and with dolomite were tested in order to reduce the formation of agglomerations. The effect of leaching the biomass with water was also studied. The results showed that about 770°C, the potassium contained in the ashes reacted with the silica sand particles surface, forming low melting point eutectics governed by the K2O-SiO2 system, which were deposited and adhered to quartz particles around, promoting the formation of agglomerations. Around 900°C took place the diffusion of Mg, Ca and Fe which reacted with the deposited material, forming an additional coating layer composed of K2O-SiO2-MgO and/or K2O-SiO2-CaO-Fe2O3 systems, that strengthened the joints formed between the agglomerated sand particles. These results agreed with the agglomerations formation mechanisms, proposed in the literature / Mestrado / Termica e Fluidos / Mestre em Engenharia Mecânica

The bioaccessibility of folic acid in bread samples made with fortified wheat flour was carried out through the in vitro simulation of the digestion. This vitamin concentration in the flour, bread extracts and in the extracts obtained by de digestion simulation were measured by ultra-performance liquid chromatography (UPLC). Then the folic acid retention was calculated for each sample. The influence of temperature and time in the degradation of free and microencapsulated folic acid standard during a heating process were determined by a thermogravimetric and differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA) and X-ray diffraction (DRX). The results showed that folic acid retention was 85% and near 70% after the flour homogenization and the bread baking, respectively. Even though there were losses during the bread production the folic acid was 100% bioaccessible in the bread samples. The free folic acid standards samples presented total degradation after 35 min at 155°C and 15 min at 175°C exposition. However, the microencapsulated folic acid standards showed a complete degradation under 100°C for 15 min. Thus, it is conclude that in bread fabrication the wheat flour fortification process with folic acid is efficient and that new coating and microencapsulation techniques must be studied in order to be applied to folic acid / Mestrado / Ciência de Alimentos / Mestra em Ciência de Alimentos

Thermal Analysis of a Park Lock System in a DCT TransmissionRudraraju, Venkata Sai Krishna Varma, Valishetty, Arjun January 2017 (has links)
A park lock is a mechanism used to prevent unintentional movement of the vehicle. A failure in the proper function of this mechanism can lead to the safety concerns of an automobile. The main focus of this thesis is to understand the reason behind the failure of the park lock mechanism by FEM analysis in ANSA. For this, temperature build up during the park lock engagement has been studied in a dynamic explicit analysis. The FE results are compared to results from experiments on park lock. The modelling has been done in ANSA, ABAQUS was used as a solver for simulation and the results have been studied in META. The results indicate that there is a rise in the temperature. This is due to the friction between the contact surfaces and the oscillations generated in the vehicle. Based on the observations, discussions and conclusions are formulated and the research questions are answered.

The I2T5 : Enhancement of the Thermal Design of an Iodine Cold Gas ThrusterPereira, Roger Michael January 2020 (has links)
The I2T5, an iodine-propelled, cold gas thruster, developed by ThrustMe, France, is the first of its kind to make it successfully to space. Due to its simple, reliable and cost-effective design, it is a suitable propulsion system for CubeSat missions with low delta-V (ΔV) requirements. To ensure that the I2T5 performs at its peak, it is crucial to maintain good thermal control of the thruster, to keep it within the operational temperature range. The first flight measurements of the I2T5 provided insight into its thermal performance. It was observed that the required temperature to sublimate the iodine propellant was not reached within the expected time frame, which led to a longer warm-up period, and a reduction in thrust. The problem arose due to an unforeseen conductive thermal contact between the tank and the thruster walls. This thesis delves deeper into this issue, and focuses on alleviating the total conductive heat loss from the tank to the satellite frame, where the I2T5 is integrated. The insulating washer-bolt configuration of the I2T5 side panels is observed to be responsible for the conductive heat transfer. A preliminary analysis is performed to obtain an initial maximum for the conductive heat flux lost to the satellite frame. A plan of action is then determined to optimise the geometry, material or configuration of the insulating washers to lower the maximum heat flux value. Following this, an experiment was conducted with a new washer-bolt configuration to determine the heat flux values. A case study is performed for the orbital environment heat fluxes that the I2T5 would receive if it were integrated to a CubeSat in sun-synchronous orbit. An overview of results shows that, for the thermal simulations, all the methods employed to reduce the conductive heat loss at the frame were effective. The experiment provided neutral results, and would need to be repeated with different experimental parameters to have a clear perspective of the heat losses. In reality, the satellite frame receives radiative fluxes in addition to conductive heat fluxes, but radiation is not considered for this thesis, and is suggested as a prospective study.

QUANTIFICATION OF THERMAL BRIDGING EFFECTS IN COLD-FORMED STEEL WALL ASSEMBLIESKapoor, Divyansh 08 April 2020 (has links)
Thermal bridging can be defined as the phenomenon where a structural element spanning the building envelope acts like a thermal pathway which collects and moves energy (heat) from the interior to the exterior of the structure. CFS construction, due to the high thermal conductivity of steel with respect to its surrounding structural components and repetitive nature of framing, is highly prone to thermal bridging. Thermal bridging significantly alters the thermal performance of wall assemblies.
Hence, the objective of this research project was to quantify the magnitude of energy loss through cold-formed steel (CFS) stud wall assemblies at a component level to lay the groundwork for future works that promote sustainable, energy-efficient, and improved building design recommendations.
Therefore, a parametric evaluation was performed using ISO 10211:2007, Annex A, conforming heat transfer software Blocon Heat3 version 8 to generate the data required for analysis. 80 unique wall assemblies and the impact of selected parameters on the overall thermal transmittance of the wall assembly were studied as part of the parametric evaluation. The key variables of the study are steel thickness, stud depth, stud spacing, cavity insulation R-value, external insulation thickness (R-value), and fastener diameter and length.
Based on the results of the analysis, effects of increasing stud and track thickness, depth, and stud spacing have been discussed in the form of trends in overall heat flow and linear thermal transmittance coefficient values. Additionaly, effects of increasing external insulation have been discussed by addressing changes in heat flow.

Retence vody v huminových kyselinách / Water retention capacity of humic substancesCihlář, Zdeněk January 2009 (has links)
Humic acids were extracted from South Moravian lignit. That humic sample was oxidized by either H2O2 or HNO3. In next step, oxidized humic acids were polymerized by formaldehyde in order to obtain cross-linked structures with improved water retention capacity. Affinity to water and water retention capacity of obtained products were studied by thermal analysis (DSC – differential scanning calorimetry and TGA – thermogravimetric analysis). In order to study above-mentioned parameters two different methods were used. First approach represented sorption of water to humic acids from three controlled humidities, for description of those processes TGA measurement was used. Second study was based on the DSC monitoring of water excess sorption. Results obtained from TGA measurements showed an increasing sorption ability with increasing relative humidity of the environment. DSC measurerents in hermetically sealed containers resulted in an increasing content of water bound by humic acids structures. All the modified samples of humic acids (oxidized as well as oxidized and modified by formaldehyde) gave higher retention capacity in comparion with the parental humic sample.

Design and stress analysis of temperature and force sensor in hot rolling process.Nejedlý, Pavel January 2009 (has links)
In the process of hot rolling is roll surface thermo-mechanically stressed. To define lifetime of roll or to increase it by change of thermal mode, temperatures and forces acting on this roll need to be known. For this purpose should be used sensors, that are placed near by surface of roll. Aim of the first part of diploma thesis is to debug 2D computing model (MKP) to achieve the match of temperature graphs with experimentally measured values, which was recorded by temperature sensors in real process of rolling. In the second part the same temperature boundary conditions are applied on 3D model, which is used to solve mechanical strength check of the temperature sensor. The last part of thesis is design and verification of mechanical strength of the designed force sensor. The used boundary conditions were acquired in Laboratory of heat transfer and flow. The computing system ANSYS 11 is used to design a model of geometry and numerical calculation. This diploma thesis will be used as donating solution for the granted project, which started in this year with Laboratory of heat transfer and flow partnership.
