Cab Door Design : Improvement of door cornersIslam, Akib January 2014 (has links)
This thesis presents a product development process, where an existing solution on a cab door have been analysed and developed, with the aim to result in a cost-effective concept solution for handling tolerances on the door frame. The methodological approach in this thesis is based on Volvo Construction Equipment’s development model; The Global Development Process, which started with a pre-study phase where the problem formulation was established. The problem formulation in short is to find a solution for how to handle narrow tolerances in steel profiles for the door weldment on cab doors. Various solution ideas were discussed and concepts were generated with focus to design a new cab door corner that would solve the problems addressed by the project. The applied method resulted in a final concept consisting of the same steel profiles but with new dimensions, and two new concepts in each corner; one corner module that is placed inside the steel profiles and joined by welding, and a plastic shell that covers the welded corner. The concept was validated using a prototype of the proposed solution, where tests show that the requirements were achieved, besides a few deficiencies. A cost comparison between the existing and the proposed solution was made within limitations for this thesis. The result of the cost comparison shows an indication of that the proposed solution can be more cost-effective than the existing solution. Some of the recommendations after have completing the project are to make a complete cost comparison to ensure that the indication is correct and to analyse the new components to optimize and define the dimensions of them.

Simulating Human Movement Patterns in an Area : A Part of the Crowdmapper ProjectSvanberg, Rasmus, Svensson, Hampus January 2021 (has links)
In 2019, the Covid-19 pandemic struck the world, creating a need for social distancing to stop the spreading of the virus. This report will discuss and cover how a simulation was implemented in the game engine Unity that simulates human movement-patterns, which in turn will help with spreading people out in public areas. To be able to do this accurately, research was made about which behaviours can be of importance to get as realistic a representation of human movements as possible. The performed research showed that some contributing factors to get a realistic result includes how many destinations (e.g. in a Supermarket, a destination would be a shelf with wares) a human usually visits during a shopping trip to a supermarket. This is something that was quickly realized and could be used and implemented in the simulation, as it directly affects how long each human stays in the store, which in the long run makes crowds, and places where they form, more realistic. When the simulation was finished, a Google Forms was created, which were spread in numerous different groups on Facebook and Reddit, in which a total of 60 participants were registered. This quantitative research gave a good understanding of how the project had turned out and what could be improved. The results were very promising, and more or less what was hoped for. There is still room for further improvements, which are all mentioned in the chapter “Further Research” of this report. One example that is mentioned here is whether or not collisions between our simulated humans matter enough to make a difference to the end result. It is argued that it does not, but this is something one should perform further studies on.

Locating faults in boundary wires for autonomous lawn mowers : An investigative study on methods used to locate faults in underground, low-voltage cables with focus on implementing Time Domain Reflectometer (TDR)Alhaj Kasem, Mustafa, Andersson, Daniel January 2021 (has links)
Purpose:The purpose of this thesis was to identify a useful solution to find the location of a broken boundary wire. By useful we mean that the solution should be inexpensive, user friendly and accurate. However, this thesis will only investigate the accuracy of the method where the hypothesis is that an investigated method is applicable for all underground wires. Method:This study conducted a literature research in order to investigate what methods that are used in other industries to locate faults in underground, low-voltage electrical wires. After the research, the most commonly used fault locating methods were described and the one that seemed most useful was chosen as a possible solution. For the solution to be useful the accuracy was investigated. The method used to conduct an experiment and gather data to validate the solution was Design Science Research. Result:Three methods were investigated as possible solutions:Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR), Frequency Domain Reflectometry (FDR) and Murray bridge where experiments were conducted using TDR.TDR proved to be unapplicable in locating faults in boundary wires, although it was confirmed to be a valid solution to locate faults in coaxial cables with <1% error margin. What makes TDR and other reflectometry methods unsuitable methods within the autonomous lawn mower industry is the lack of characteristic impedance in the used boundary wires. The hypothesis that an investigated method is applicable for all underground wires is thereby refuted. Limitations:Experiments were conducted in laboratory environment with a signal generator and an oscilloscope. One experiment was conducted on a boundary wire in the ground which provided no reflected signal.

Minimalist Design on Social Networking Sites : Understanding Perception of Content on Social Networking Sites in Regards to Attention and MemorabilityTisma, Kevin, Sai, Abdul Rahman January 2023 (has links)
Social Networking Sites have taken the world by storm with an aggressively growing market. People are spending more and more time with ever more alluring algorithms to keep a high interest for increased profit margins and revenue. However, this brings forth societal issues regarding attention span. Herbert. A. Simons (1971) theorized that as people gain information, it is in exchange for attention in an attention economy. With these uprising issues, we set out to discover if there were ways to alleviate the attention required to understand the content. In design, minimalism as a design concept helps to solve these issues by communicating as effectively as possible and skipping "the small talk." Further, the massive growth SNS has experienced in the 2010s leaves a market opportunity to streamline advertisements to communicate with its audience more effectively. The research set out to answer two questions: “How do end-users perceive minimalistic design principles to affect memorability in SNS advertisements?” and “How do end-users perceive minimalistic design principles to affect the attention required to understand an advertisement on SNSs?” We constructed interviews based on previous research and conducted eight interviews. The interviews were then thematically analyzed, where four significant themes occurred. "Positive Perception of Attention Required", "Positive Perception of Effects on Memorability", "Influential Individual Content Creators" and “Effects on Minimalism by Context”. The findings revealed a positive perception of how minimalistic design principles affected the attention required to understand the content. Likewise, it was found that people had similar perceptions of the effects on memorability. Further, it was revealed that a majority believe individual content creators can alleviate societal issues regarding attention.

Sustainability Aspects in ICT Engineering Thesis Works / Hållbarhetsaspekter inom ICT relaterade examensarbetenAhmad, Mirwary, Kaur, Birgeet January 2016 (has links)
An evaluation of thesis reports performed by students from the degree programme Computer Engineering, TIDAB, that was made by UKÄ, The Swedish Higher Education Authority, showed that there was a lack of consideration of environmental and sustainability aspects in the thesis reports, leading to many students not meeting the criteria in the degree objectives regarding this aspect. The purpose of this bachelor thesis is to improve students’ ability in considering the important aspects of sustainability in their thesis works, by providing them with guidelines which they can follow and implement during their thesis work that will enable them to reach the level ‘Very High Quality’. A literature study was performed thoroughly in conjunction with reviewing previous thesis reports and conducting expert interviews as an approach to find a solution to the problem. The outcome of the analysis was three methods that was developed, which the students can use as guidelines in their thesis work. A set of guidelines, a table with skill sets and the SEMAT Essence Kernel card for sustainable development was the resulting methods that will help the students to at minimum accomplish the criteria for ‘High Quality’ on the objective "Demonstrate an understanding of technology capabilities and limitations, its role in society and people’s responsibility for its use, including social and economic aspects, environmental and safety aspects" when the methods are followed.

Framtagning av en mobilhållare för bilar / Development of a mobile phone holder for carsGöransson, Daniel, Haaga, Jerry January 2015 (has links)
The objective of this thesis has been to develop and design a mobile phone holder for cars. Web Accessibility and Search Engine Optimization: an investigation on the implementation and its effect within e-commerce websites in Sweden / Användartillgänglighet och Sökmotoroptimering: en undersökning kring implementationen och dess effekt på e-handelshemsidor i SverigeAlfvén, Mikaela, Creutz, Amanda January 2021 (has links)
With the digital world we live in today, inclusion on the web is crucial. Ensuring all who want to access the web can do so is a responsibility that can be vague. As prior research has shown that making a website accessible is a low prioritized matter because of time and money, but also lack of knowledge, the purpose with this thesis was to find out if factors used for search engine optimization could cater to web accessibility. There is a general understanding that there are overlapping factors between the two concepts. Since search engine optimization is a desired and successful part of providing a website with traffic, an overlap should improve accessibility. To understand in what way the search engine optimization factors could affect the accessibility of a webpage as a whole, with this thesis we go into the context of implementation by interviewing web professionals. As this thesis will show, there are multiple aspects needed to be taken into consideration when measuring to what extent the overlapping factors affect website performance in regards to accessibility. Factors like the clients, thoughts about responsibility, experience and even personal interest come into play. The method used was qualitative where we analysed the data with a thematic analysis and descriptive statistics. The data collection had three parts: a survey, an in-depth interview with a few of the participants from the survey, and finally a web performance test. The latter was performed by Siteimprove crawl, which administers one of the top accessibility ranking tools online. The general indication was that we cannot draw a conclusion to the benefit of it being enough to just implement the SEO factors that overlap. Although, this investigation provides an insight into to what extent web professionals are implementing the overlapping factors between search engine optimization and web accessibility, and what other aspects may influence web performance.
