Tourism planning and destination marketing : towards a community-driven approach : a case of Thailand

Wisansing, Jutamas January 2004 (has links)
This thesis argues that while analysing markets and developing strategies to exploit the external market place and to attract tourists remains a central focus for tourism marketers, it is not enough on its own to achieve sustainable tourism destination development. The researcher substantiates this argument by exploring the 'participatory tourism planning' concept in detail. Based on this approach, the community is identified as a primary customer for whom tourism marketers have ignored involving in their marketing attention, messages and programmes. The fundamental concept - marketing orientation and customer orientation - combined with emerging marketing theories were reviewed in order to help examine how destination marketing, a community-driven approach, should be implemented within a destination area. This examination of marketing and community based tourism planning set a platform for this research. This analysis examines relevance, applicability and potential for an integration of these two pervasive approaches for tourism planning. Guided by the theoretical examination, an integrated community-based tourism planning and marketing model was proposed. In order to explore gaps between the proposed model and its practicality, three destination areas (Phuket, Samui and Songkla-Hatyai) in Thailand were studied and evaluated. At this pragmatic level, this thesis identified impediments confronting national and local tourism organisations. The findings of this study draw a particular attention to institutional challenges which require clear identification of responsibilities and coordination of all actors involved in the planning and marketing process. These selected case studies have not only provided critical commentaries to assist tourism planners improve strategically their marketing approaches within community tourism planning, but they also have helped provide avenues for future research.

San Martín Gutiérrez, Héctor 09 May 2005 (has links)

Mundet i Cerdan, Lluís 18 December 1998 (has links)
This thesis is based on an analysis of the implications of the life-cycle theory on tourist destinations by the Canadian geographer Richard W. Butler (1982); and on a study of what the emergence of postmodernim and its repercussions on tourism have meant. At the same time, the history that has made the appearance of mass sun and beach tourism possible is reviewed. All this is the theoretical basis for the empirical study of the tourist destinations of Saltburn (United Kingdom), l'Estartit (Costa Brava) and Cayo Coco (Cuba). Life cycle is used as the instrument for writing their history and seeing what development and tourist regeneration policies they have followed and whether they can be defined as post-Fordist policies. In conclusion, current tourist models, more inauthentic, diverse and customised, place a question-mark over the Fordist tourist practices of previous decades, although there are still more elements of continuity than of change. The idea now is to make the Fordist tourist model feasible, by using postmodernism as an instrument to give a theoretical and ideological gloss to the model that can be still called Fordist, but that has been adapted to new times and settings.

Využití kulturních zařízení v rozvoji cestovního ruchu na příkladě vybraných muzeí s technickou tematikou na Jindřichohradecku / A usage of cultural facilities in tourism development on case of selected museums with the technical issues in the region of Jindřichův Hradec

JIRKŮ, Miloslava January 2011 (has links)
The theoretical part of the thesis was divided into five chapters in which the theory of turism and marketing were explored and described. The tourist trade was defined with the help of the specific literature, also destinations, particular types of turism and, of yourse, cultural tourism. The practical part of the thesis deals with the area of Jindřichův Hradec. The synthesis of information gained from the situational analysis and questionnaire research served as a base for creating the SWOT analysis of tourism in the JH area. There is nothing like a ?service package? for cooperation and communication of cultural and tourism facilities in the area. Therefore the author suggested such a product package which should be used as a means for tourists to visit all technical museums in the area and which should be also helpful for the people to stay longer in the destination.

Azambuja, Vanessa Acosta de 29 May 2015 (has links)
Submitted by Ana Guimarães Pereira (agpereir@ucs.br) on 2015-10-20T12:11:13Z No. of bitstreams: 1 Dissertacao Vanessa Acosta de Azambuja.pdf: 2241216 bytes, checksum: c036b024ea417a28efb27f27ff52210c (MD5) / Made available in DSpace on 2015-10-20T12:11:13Z (GMT). The research universe was integrated by subjects of the government, the private sector, workers and the local community of Gramado, a total of 21 respondents. In addition to interviews, being a case study, were also consulted books about the history of tourism in Gramado; dissertations of Tourism and Hospitality Master in UCS that this destination is the study scenario; and reports connected with the research. Among the results is that the attributes with the highest occurrence in the answers of respondents were symbolic and functional attributes, especially "tourist attraction/events" as what differentiates Gramado from your competitors. 文創資源與觀光行銷 :以宜蘭觀光工廠為例 / Tourism Marketing of Cultural and Creative Resources– A Case Study of Tourism Factory in Yilan

Yang, Shang Hsuan Unknown Date (has links)
When the manufacturing industry was faced with industrial bottlenecks, as early as the combination of "culture" and "industry" of the Frankfurt School emerged in the 1940s, it sought the transformation of industrial development from the declining situation. Taiwan refers to the experience of the tourism factories in Europe and the United States, establishing the cultural and creative places as the knowledge tourist attractions. The Ministry of Economic Affairs has been actively coaching the management of tourism service and the restructuring of domestic conventional factories since 2003, to assist manufacturing factories in transforming industrial cultural assets and sightseeing. "Culture" is the expression of life, distinguishing the values shown by individuals or groups in the social structure. Cultural and creative resources make innovations in the main and secondary characteristic elements of "culture," and achieve the popularity of cultural transmission results through cultural products with their symbolic network in the era of knowledge. Tourism factory’s brand building is like any kind of cultural and creative activities: The process rely on human’s innovations and ideas in a certain knowledge background, coupled with modern science and technology to enhance the traditional cultural elements of the content and quality. It’s not the simple reproduction, processing and transplanting of traditional culture, but the greatest manifestation of the special characteristics of culture. This study set the tourism factories in Yilan County as the main research object, discussed with analyzing tourism factories’ DM, official website, tourist book and other literatures, supplemented with depth interviews on the way of how to promote tourism marketing by the author, explored the strategy of the conduction of business management, cultural heritage, and even the possibilities of seeking to establish a centennial shop. The research also sorted out one after another to provide the direction for subsequent improvement for the market dilemma under the guidance of the public sector in recent years.
