The perceived destination images by Swedish tourists with their visit on CyprusKetabi, Mohamed Fouad January 2018 (has links)
In 2016 Cyprus received 3,2 million international tourists. The island is considered as the 40th most popular destination in the world, while if counted per capita of local population Cyprus has a 6th place worldwide. There are some 200,000 tourists from Sweden travelling to the island annually. Swedish citizens, in a similar fashion with the rest of Nordic countries enjoy a similar consumer behavior and high purchasing power. Understanding how Swedish tourists perceive image of Cyprus helps to nuance the view of visitors coming from Nordic countries onto the destination. The visit experience plays an important role to reduce the destination image stereotyping, which caused by different information sources that may lead to a change in destination image after visitation. Positive destination image leads to satisfaction and revisit intentions. This thesis investigates in detail how Swedish’ tourists perceive the destination images during their visit on Cyprus. The researcher followed semi-structured qualitative research method with the use of in-depth interviews to collect empirical data with respondents who have visited Cyprus. Destination image theory is utilized to support the theoretical ground for the thesis, while a textual content analysis was used as a tool for analyzing the interviews. Adopting the qualitative research approach provided the opportunity to capture the holistic components of Cyprus destination images while Cyprus touristic’ attributes were identified and ranked based on their functionality and psychological dimensions. Conducting this research provided the researcher the chance to test the theoretical destination image formation and the interrelationship among the destination image different components. Cyprus images after visiting the destination differ from the pre-visit stage as images were modified after visiting the destination. Swedish tourists upon their visit perceived the images of Cyprus in positive and negative ways. Cyprus Tourism Organization can benefit Cyprus by considering the negative notions found in this research and try to solve these problems or minimize their effects as possible.

A emergência da urbanização turística com base na rede hoteleira da cidade de Maceió-Alagoas / The emergency of tourist urbanization based on hotel chain of Maceió - AlagoasMelo, Juliana Costa 24 March 2017 (has links)
The theme of this research is the emergency of tourist urbanization based on hotel chain of Maceió – Alagoas. Our goal is to investigate the process of urbanization of the city of Maceió from the implantation of its hotel network. The realization of this study is justified by the recent expansion of the hotel chain in Maceió, which extended mainly along the seafront of the city, including the expansion of the urban space. We used a qualitative methodology by collecting data from photographic survey, research in public and private agencies, annotations in the field book and non-directive interviews. After this, all collect data was analyzed together. We add a bibliographical review listing concepts and propositions of the main authors who study tourist urbanization, tourism and leisure, urban space and the main agents producing tourism. This theoretical framework supports data analysis. The results indicate the existence of four phases on Maceió hotel chain development. The installation of the hotels began in the center of the city. On that time, the demand to hotels was to bureaucratic questions linked to the State. In this perspective, we verified that the buildings from the hotels in de center are deprived and used to other purposes nowadays. The installation of new equipment in other sites redefined the destination of lodging in the capital of Alagoas. The increased in tourist demand contributed to install new equipment in areas that were being incorporated into the initial urban space. We note that the second phase of expansion took place around Praia da Avenida, having its apogee until the eighties of the twentieth century. After this, a third phase of installation of the hotel chain started in Pajuçara, Ponta Verde and Jatiúca arises. The fourth phase corresponds to installation of large tourist enterprises such as the various resorts, as well as a large number of hotels in the neighborhoods located in the north of the capital, such as Cruz das Almas, Ipioca, Riacho Doce, Pescaria, Jacarecica and Guaxuma. We can attest that Maceió, for having become a tourist destination of great prominence in the last two decades, has obtained an increase in the number of new equipment of accomodation, mainly for being a destiny of sun and beach mass tourism. In view of the above, the results of this dissertation can contribute to new studies to generate knowledge and increase the number of publications on this subject little publicized in the literature.

This dissertation is about heritage and Tourism development in Inhambane Municipality (IM) in Mozambique. Through an interdisciplinary approach, our aim was to study the elements that compose the place’s natural and cultural heritage, in order to propose alternatives based on Creative Tourism that emphasizes the value of the tourist space, from the perception of the Tourism actors, in particular: tourists and local population. With help of the Complexity Paradigm, and of the unity among the dialogic, recursive and hologrammatic principles, our research trail based on Qualitative Research, with the following methodological procedures. Firstly, a documents and literature review was done, from which the operational categories and subcategories of the research were defined. Following, there was a fieldwork operated by: non-participant systematic observation, questionnaires and semi-structured interviews, above all, based on non-probabilistic sampling for tourists, and probabilistic for the local residents. The last methodological step was the data analysis and interpretation, by triangulating descriptive, comparative and statistical methods. In our investigations, we found that the IM has a rich and diverse heritage supply of natural order - the most popular with visitors - mainly distributed along the beaches; and historical-cultural influence, mostly located in the urban area of the municipality. It is through the appropriation of this heritage by Tourism that the touristic landscape of IM is produced. Although this landscape is structured in a relation between the aesthetic and affective feelings, there are negative valuations. Similar scenario is found in the attitude of local residents towards Tourism development. Although the majority endorses the Tourism development, due to the perceived economic benefits, gradually, residents are beginning to question this development, due to the social and environmental costs it has generated. However, we believe that a new Tourism model should emerge in IM. One that goes beyond the determinations of Tourism development as an industrial model enables a Tourism development as a creative model, especially concerning the place’s heritage preservation, and the active participation of the local communities and their members.

Food Studies Abroad: Identity, Consumption, and Learning in ItalyGooch, Christina 23 February 2016 (has links)
Food studies offers a powerful lens through which to consider the complexity of travel, given the ways in which food can bring multiple perspectives to the table. The merging of food studies with the well-established tradition of study abroad, then, provides a platform for incorporating critical thinking and fresh perspectives into the discourse surrounding study abroad. How does food studies abroad reflect the opportunities and reify the concerns posed by study abroad in general? I explore this topic through a case study of a University of Oregon food studies abroad program, Food and Culture in Italy, looking specifically at students’ motivations, on-site experience, and perceived outcomes. I employ the lenses of identity, consumption, and experiential learning to discuss the trends that emerge from the data and conclude with a series of recommendations for moving thoughtfully and critically forward with food studies abroad programming.

An investigation of the acquisition and experience of medical tourism : the case of JordanAl-Maaitah, Hadeel Mahmoud Khaleel January 2016 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to investigate medical tourism in Jordan through the international patients‘ perspective. The aim is to contribute to a better understanding of international patients‘ consumption behaviour to seek medical treatment, and while at the destination. And also to better understand the medical tourists‘ perceptions of quality of healthcare services. This research was designed to facilitate the identification of the characteristics of medical tourists, their visit, their sources of information and the main pull/push factors influencing their decision to travel. Moreover, it was designed to identify the level of satisfaction held by medical tourists towards their patient experience and their satisfaction predictors, by translating, adapting and validating a patient-centred quality of care instrument and assessing its psychometric properties amongst them. This research used a mixed-methods case study approach. It was conducted in 7 private hospitals with a primary quantitative research method through 302 interviewer-administered questionnaires and descriptive quantitative statistics, Mann-Whitney U Non-Parametric Significance Tests, Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Factor Analysis. As a complement, qualitative research through 20 semi-structured interviews and content analysis was conducted in order to provide further insights into this area of research. The findings suggest that word-of-mouth recommendations and reputation have the utmost role in informing international patients of healthcare options in Jordan. Furthermore, recommendations from family and friends are the second most important after availability of specialized treatments in influencing the 3 international patients‘ decision to seek international healthcare. Moreover, significant differences in these terms exist between first and repeat visitors, which hold important implications for tourism marketers. Further marketing implications also exist as most patients shift in the type of activities they and their companions undertake after the main treatment period is completed. In terms of satisfaction, Factor Analysis suggest that medical tourists satisfaction of quality of services in Jordan‘s hospitals is based on six predictors including nutritional care, nursing care, physician care, room atmosphere, the procedure for incoming patients and other hospital services. Both quantitative and qualitative analyses show that medical tourists are satisfied with the quality of health care services rendered to them. However, minor areas show less satisfaction. The findings raise issues regarding the recruitment of non-Arab speaking nurses. Drawing together these findings presents implications for medical tourism management, international healthcare marketing, policy-making, and continuous improvement of the services they provide.

Previous issue date: 2015-01-19 / Não recebi financiamento / This is on the assumption that the planning of tourist destination, based on the assumptions of sustainable development should focus on and highlight its tourist attractions, since these enterprises are responsible for promoting the movement of visitors. The organization of tourist attractions impacts the fate of competitiveness in the tourism market. This dissertation has the general objective to complement the methodology called "Method for Construction, Design and Project Implementation Circuits and Tourist Attractions" SEBRAE-SP (2011) with regard to formatting sustainable tourist attractions. The data that support the ideas presented here and the structuring of the methodological complementation were collected from bibliographical and documentary research. The end result is the production of a methodological complementation with a practical and operational approach to self solution format, where the micro and small business segment of the tourist attractions is able to implement on your property the procedures proposed in this work. This methodological complement consists of three stages of development of tourist attractions (interpretation, diagnosis and intervention) that is built on five strategic axes of analysis (product characteristics, physical structure, security, management, promotion and marketing). It is expected that, by contributing to the analysis of formatting sustainable tourist attractions, can be created subsidies for the planning process of tourism destinations, in order to increase the quality of leisure activities and experiences offered, as well as guide professionals who work directly in the management of these tourist facilities.
