Exploration of the Socialization Process of Female Leaders in Counselor Education

Flowers, Lea Randle 22 May 2006 (has links)
Higher education literature, has several contributions that pertain to mentoring styles in academia, female faculty, gender and leadership, and recruitment and retention of women and minorities in academia. However, specific references that lend voice to the experiences of female counselor educators in the context of their career paths and patterns are scant(Hill, Leinbaugh, Bradley,& Hazler, 2005). This qualitative investigation explored the socialization process of 8 female leaders in counselor education from throughout the United States utilizing grounded theory methods. The primary theme of socialization was organized into three main categories, (a) childhood socialization, (b) anticipatory socialization (Van Mannen, 1976), and (c) organizational socialization (Van Mannen, 1976). Leaders' socialization experiences highlighted sub-themes of balancing work and family, satisfaction level of professional obligations and inequalities. The inequalities highlighted participants' experiences of exclusion in departments with counselor education and counseling psychology programs, as well as gender and race discrimination around issues such as salary, tenure and promotion. The results from this investigation provided a theoretical framework of the interrelated influences of their socialization process from childhood across the span of their careers to full professor and department chairs. Implications and recommendations for female doctoral students, counselor educators, professional development in higher education, mentoring relationships, supervision and leadership development are included.

PUC Campinas / Coordena??o de Aperfei?oamento de Pessoal de N?vel Superior - CAPES / Children's literature and education are instances that complete the development of small child. Through children's literature it?s possible to promote learning that child will carry on for life. Considering this background, a descriptive research with a qualitative approach is presented from the theoretical perspectives of Piaget, Bandura and Feuerstein. The overall aim is to understand how to use children's literature in order to promote self-regulation strategies with children from two to six years without losing its enjoyment space. Research instruments were organized to meet the following specific aims: i) to plan, develop and evaluate a continued training for teachers involved, during 2015 with the theme children's literature, self-regulation and learning mediation; ii) to understand the selection criterion of children's books by educators and which pedagogical practices members of the continued formation considered the most appropriate to promote self-regulation and fruition from the children's literature; iii) to socialize with team the most relevant practices and experiences indicated by participants; iv) to analyze what was reported by teachers on children's literature as fruition and as a means for develop self-regulation skills in children from two to six years; v) to verify if it?s there is harmony between children's literature as a formative art and as pedagogical use in unison on early childhood education. Twelve teachers who worked in multigrade classes from kindergarten serving 354 children aged 2 to 6 years were study participants. The instruments used were field diary records of continued formation, researcher and participating teachers, observations of practices and interviews. For the understanding of the empirical material were used the content analysis. The results obteined show that the small child can self-regulate thoughts, feelings and actions by means of children's literature since it is inserted in a learning process mediated by a teacher who develop activities guided to fruition, for reflection and critical thinking. This analyzis indicates that mediated dialogue after the planned intervention for harmony between pleasure and learning was the most assertive activity to promote self-regulation with children of all investigated groups. In this sense, we emphasize that teacher education was ssential for the developement of research, preponderating the fact that it would not be possible to exercise the teaching profession with fullness in the context studied if there was no initial or continuous training knowledge. The conclusion is that the incentive for new researches and teacher training on the chosen subject is urgently needed, so that you can advance studies to invest in the capacity of small children and in the training of teachers for childhood, a barely explored field in academia.

How are learning processes affected when two types of schools in Sweden collaborate? : A study of a vocational education program in collaboration between University College in Sweden and Swedish Folk High School

Lagerlöf, Malin January 2021 (has links)
Education is an important part of the development of, and democratic processes in, any society. This study aims to explore the experiences of studying in a program combining two types of schools in Swedish, University College and Folk High School. In the theory section of the study, the similarities and differences of the two types of schools are described, as well as the prerequisites under which they operate. The study uses the sociocultural perspective as its starting point. The program is described as a unity with three parts; local congregation, Folk High School and University College. The respondents do report differing perceptions on how unified the educational form actually is. They do, however, mostly express positive views of the program as well as a large willingness to recommend it to others, and generally describe the program as both substantial and well crafted. The analysis shows how didactics and methodology from both types of schools are being used, and how this too is being perceived differently by the respondents. The study shows that this combination of two types of schools is being perceived as a positive for both the students’ learning and coming working life, and that it facilitates an educational form with more learning tools than the type of school individually could offer. Previous research also shows that this type of combination has a positive impact on learning, as well as the importance of a good study environment and general well-being to achieve good study results. However, the study also notes the relatively small amount of previous research into the field of adult education, pointing to the need for continued research into this field, to further our understanding of how to create good learning environments. / <p>Betygsdatum 2021-06-07</p>

Policy design and implementation : a case study of the Business Management Training Programme at the National Youth Development Agency

Dube, Itumeleng Peter 07 1900 (has links)
Entrepreneurship education and training ensures economic development by enabling the creation of thriving new businesses and jobs by entrepreneurs. The Business Management Training Programme is tasked with training young entrepreneurs in South Africa. However, the youth unemployment rate has been exceedingly high in recent years. This study seeks to explore the implementation challenges being experienced by the Business Management Training Programme at the National Youth Development Agency. Using a qualitative approach, this study made use of semi-structured interviews with a carefully selected sample of those involved in the management and implementation of the Business Management Training Programme. A thematic analysis of the semi-structured interviews indicated that the challenges experienced in the implementation of the programme did not stem solely from operational issues within the National Youth Development Agency, but from the conceptualisation and design of the Business Management Training Programme. On this basis, it is recommended that the National Youth Development Agency use the Design and Architecture Framework for Entrepreneurship Education and Training to conceptualise and design their own Business Management Training Programme. The study concluded that by conceptualising and designing its own programme, the National Youth Development Agency will be able to address the unique entrepreneurial education and training challenges being experienced in South Africa. / Public Administration and Management / M. A Phenomenological Study of the Roles of Principals in Special Education

Parker, Sarah Marie 01 January 2016 (has links)
At the time of this study, there is intensified awareness of the importance of special education and the appropriate implementation of supports and services for the students identified as having special needs. In the United States, understanding special education laws, the needs of students with special needs who are served in the school building, and effective ways to interact with staff members and families about special education are important components of principal leadership success. Principal supervisors and others who provide training and ongoing professional development for principals and potential school leaders need to understand more about issues principals face in these expanding roles. This phenomenological study was conducted to explore the lived experiences of principals regarding their experiences and perceptions related to their levels of preparation for special education leadership. The conceptual framework based upon Bandura's social learning theory presented the principal as the role model for teachers and the leader in building relationships with families and supporting student success. Ten principals from K-12 schools were interviewed in person and on the phone. A priori and open coding were used to support interpretive analysis. Principals reported three main areas of concern related to their expanded role: knowing how to work with parents, responding to citations their district received due to not following laws, and learning how to handle challenging situations better. These results suggest that having more preparation and continuing training in the area of special education might contribute to principals' greater understanding of best practices, policies, and procedures.

Pěstování microgreens v mateřské škole / Growing Microgreens in Nursery Schools

Kapuciánová, Karolína January 2021 (has links)
The diploma thesis focuses on the topic of cultivating microgreens in nursery school. Microgreens are young plants of various species of vegetable, that are grown in soil and are harvested approximetely after ten days. The simplicity of growing microgreens makes it an appropriate activity for preeschool-age children. Besides rewarding the children with nutricious food, it brings children the oppoturnity to develop key competences and pre- literacies. The theoretical part is an information base for growing microgreens in kindergarten conditions. It describes cultivating plants in kindergarten, it deals with historicaly, legislatively and didactic point of wiew and also describe kinds of microgreens, possibilities of use and cultivation procedures suitable for kindergarten. The aim of the diploma thesis is to present the possibility of growing microgreens in nursery school with preschool children. The empirical part focuses on the design and implementation of a set of activities in which children in kindergarten grow microgreens. In addition to cultivation, other activities are also included, in which children use the topic of microgreens in individual stages of growth. The set of activities aims primarily on reaching environmental education goals and is created using a logical model. It is...

Guidelines for successful implementation of total productive maintenance in a chemical plant / Jethro Padya Mahlangu

Mahlangu, Jethro Padya January 2014 (has links)
With the world economy becoming unpredictable, it has become a necessity for businesses to relook at the way they do business. The world has become competitive and companies that aim to become profitable have seen the need to find ways to improve efficiencies and increase productivity to stay relevant. There has been an adoption of strategies that are aimed at improving the efficiencies in companies such as Total Productive Maintenance (TPM). The strategy is aimed at improving equipment efficiencies and increase productivity through the transfer of certain skills from maintenance personnel to operators. The aim is that the operators perform some of the activities that the maintenance people used to do and they do the more complex tasks. By transferring these skills to operators there is constant cleaning, inspections and lubricating of equipment. This frees up time for maintenance people to do planning and other jobs that require time and higher skills levels. The implementation of these activities allows companies to tap into unused capacity that was always hidden by breakdowns and unplanned stops. The process however requires commitment from management and all stakeholders involved in the organisation. There are prescribed implementation processes that can be followed or companies can follow their own processes but the fundamentals of involving people from the onset must be followed. The involvement of stakeholders creates commitment at all levels and in order to sustain this initiative people must be committed to it. The inclusion of the activities transferred from maintenance people to operators, will reinforce the knowledge and habits required from operators and perhaps sustain the initiative. / MBA, North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2015
