TIDENS MOTSTÅND En komparativ studie av två skulpturer av Ellen Roosval / THE RESISTANCE OF TIME - A comparative study of two sculptures by Ellen RoosvalBergström Linder, Carin January 2022 (has links)
This essay is a comparative study of two sculptures with the same motive and name, The Dance. Ellen Roosval created the freestanding sculpture The Dance in 1925 and the relief sculpture The Dance in 1933. The essay has two objectives, an analysis of these works of arts and a spotlight on the artist Ellen Roosval’s as an example of a female artist in the early 20th-century. Her reworking of the sculpture into the relief generates multiple transformations. When analyzing the works of art the aspects of the meaning and reception for the beholder has been crucial. The method theory originates from Wolfgang Kemp and was further developed by Jessica Sjöholm Skrubbe in her thesis. Sjöholm Skrubbe emphasizes on the beholders movements, the meaning of the term site-specific and the impact of the base. Now the questions in the current paper are: how the reception of the works relates to the viewer; how typology, site and material affects the design and expression; and how the works relates to the post-war aesthetics and dance. This also refers to how The Dance:s relates to the post-war aesthetic expressions and the motive. The study starts with a general background on the situation for female sculptors in the early 20th century, the artist Ellen Roosval, and dance. The dance section also introduces the dance company The Swedish Ballet (1920-25) that The Dance:s were tribute to. Then follows a contextualized presentation of the works analyzing formal elements and according to Sjöholm Skrubbe the different sites, the beholders movement and the base. Next, an analysis of typologies, materials and stylistic expressions. After that a deeper analysis focusing on the shaping of the human body, nudity and movements. Roosval’s The Dance 1933 is compared both with the relief The Dance by Antoine Bourdelle from 1912 and the Swedish Ballet performances. The analysis concludes with how site relates to choice of materials and how aesthetics and dance relates to the period 1920s. The results describes aspects of different transformations in relation to the beholders reception. The final discussion concludes on Roosval’s norm-breaker achievements, which inspired the title The Resistance of Time.

Scaling down flagship projects : Exploring the reverberations of large-scale projects in Stockholm / Nedskalning av flaggskeppsprojekt : Utforskning av storskaliga projekts efterdyningar i StockholmVlachaki- Stamatopoulou, Eleni- Konstantina January 2020 (has links)
Drawing from the ever-evolving processes that reproduce and re-define our everyday life in our living environment, this study explores the reverberations of flagship projects in the wider urban landscape. The power structures that formulate spatial production are discussed. Flagships are viewed as tangible representations of governmental and public authorities’ strategies. In-depth understanding of the consequences that stem from such implementations evidence the power dynamics in urban development processes. Stockholm’s vision for 2040 envisages the reinforcement of democratically sustainable development. This study delves into the socio-spatial earmarks that emerge from leading urban development projects in the wider urban landscape and more specifically in the adjoining to the project areas. To do so, this research looks into the urban development of the districts adjoining two large-scale projects, the Hammarby Sjöstad and the Royal Seaport.

Effects Of Allotropic Transformations On Interdiffusion Behavior In Binary SystemsEwh, Ashley Elizabeth 01 January 2012 (has links)
Diffusion plays a significant role in most materials systems by controlling microstructural development. Consequently, the overall properties of a material can be largely dependent upon diffusion. This study investigated the interdiffusion behavior of three binary systems, namely, Mo-Zr, Fe-Mo, and Fe-Zr. The main interest in these particular metals is for application in nuclear fuel assemblies. Nuclear fuel plates generally consist of two main components which are the fuel and the cladding. Due to diffusional interactions that can occur between these two components, a third is sometimes added between the fuel and cladding to serve as a diffusion barrier layer. Fe, Mo, and Zr can act as either cladding or barrier layer constituents and both Mo and Zr also serve as alloying additions in uranium based metallic fuels. Therefore, a fundamental understanding of the diffusional interactions in these systems is critical in predicting the performance and lifetime of these fuels. In order to study this diffusion behavior, a series of solid-to-solid diffusion couples were assembled between Fe, Mo, and Zr. These couples were then diffusion annealed isothermally for various predetermined times over a range of temperatures, including some both above and below the allotropic transformation temperatures for Fe and Zr. Following the diffusion anneal, the couples were water quenched, cross-sectioned, and prepared for microstructural and compositional characterization. A combination of scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), and electron probe microanalysis (EPMA) were used to obtain micrographs showing the microstructure and to collect compositional data for identifying intermediate phases and determining concentration profiles across the interdiffusion zone. Based on this characterization, the phases that developed in the diffusion zones were identified. In the Mo-Zr system, a large Zr solid solution layer developed in the couples annealed iv at and above 850C and a thin (~1-2 m) layer of Mo2Zr formed in all couples. Growth constants and concentration dependent interdiffusion coefficients were calculated for the Mo2Zr and Zr solid solution phases, respectively. In the Fe-Mo system, both the -Fe2Mo and -Fe7Mo6 phases were observed in couples annealed at 900C and below while -Fe7Mo6 and -Fe solid solution layers were observed in couples annealed above 900C. The relevant growth constants and activation energies for growth were calculated. In the Fe-Zr system, the couple annealed at 750C developed an FeZr2 and an FeZr3 layer while the couple annealed at 850C developed an Fe2Zr and Fe23Zr6 layer in the diffusion zone. The results of this analysis were then compared to available information from literature and the corresponding binary phase diagrams for each system. The results are discussed with respect to the effects of the allotropic transformations of Fe and Zr on the interdiffusion behavior in these systems.

Opposition As a DialogueKarlsson Gustafsson, Elsa January 2023 (has links)
The debate regarding a national parliaments’ opposition in EU politics is ambiguous andremarkably underdeveloped. Historically researchers argued that opposition in the context of national parliaments and European integration is decreasing at the national level. However, this idea has been challenged during the last few years by a few researchers when studying opposition in EU Member States and specifically Sweden. Even though the idea of a decreasing opposition at the national level has been challenged, researchers have primarily focused their studies on measuring opposition through quantitative approaches. Consequently, there is a shortage of research examining opposition through a qualitative lens which could grant there search field a more nuanced perspective of the opposition occurring in national parliaments. The purpose of this thesis is to investigate if and how opposition takes place in the Swedish European Affairs Committee [EAC], through a theoretical lens of opposition and parliamentary transformations. The thesis offers a comprehensive qualitative analysis of opposition by usinga reflexive thematic analysis. The results show that opposition exist in the Swedish EAC. However, political parties repeatedly fail to present alternatives to EU proposals and fail to debate suggestions stemming from the EU. This thesis shed light of how domestic opposition in EU politics can be studied through a qualitative lens and provides a more nuanced depictionof opposition.

The SL(5R) Lie invariance transformation group for the 3-dimensional classical Kepler problem : a preparation, and induced group structure algorithm derivationMerner, Mark Paul 01 January 1978 (has links) (PDF)
Recently,1 an algorithm has been derived for the explicit determination of an induced SL (n+2,R) Lie invariance transformation group for a completely integrable 2n - dimensional dynamical system defined on IR2n from that known for a free particle system with n degree of freedom. 2 In particular, the universal transitive Lie invariance transformation group for both the isotropic harmonic oscillator3 and the anharmonic oscillator4 (quartic potential) has been obtained by this algorithm. Further,5 it has been shown in theory and by example that a complete set of functionally independent constants of motion corresponds to an abelian subalgebra of the induced SL (n+2,R) group.
In this work, preparations necessary to apply this algorithm to the 3-dimensional classical Kepler problem have been made. A brief explanation of the algorithm and its relation to the Kepler problem in given in Chapter I.
The preparations including the identification of a suitable parametric form unifying the solution completely and simplify are given in subsequent chapters and Appendix I. They are followed in Appendix II by a paper6 containing the actually application involving the extension of the algorithm to arbitrarily reparameterized system.
We should mention that only conservative Hamiltonian systems are treated in this thesis.

On canonical transformations admitted by some Kepler problemsSumi, Takanori 01 January 1977 (has links) (PDF)
The problem of systematically determining groups of canonical transformations that leave invariant Hamilton's equations of motion for bound Keplerian system in the plane is formulated and examined in detail. Previously unknown invariance groups are found, and a procedure for finding further ones is outlined. The methods used are directly generalizable to other systems in spaces of arbitrary dimension.

Curriculum Decisions and Reasoning of Middle School TeachersBernard, Anand Mikel 01 July 2017 (has links)
For decades curriculum materials have been used as a means to reform the manner in which mathematics is taught. In an attempt to better understand what impact curriculum materials have on the teaching and learning of mathematics, researchers have begun to analyze the process in which teachers transform curriculum materials into instruction. Given that many of these studies have been broad in nature, I sought to study the specific decisions that three teachers made when planning lesson on geometric transformation and their reasoning for those decisions. In this study I found that while the participants in this study ignored the curriculum material I gave them as well as their district adopted materials in planning instruction, they made a wide variety of decisions with regards to other curriculum. In an attempt to describe this variety of decisions I expanded the previous methods of describing curriculum use decisions adding a self-create category as well as differentiating between the different types of adaptations teachers make. I also found that although teachers used different curriculum materials, they made similar decisions in how they planned the mathematics content of geometric transformations that seem problematic.

This thesis is devoted to the specifics of translation of color terms in the novel by M. Zusak “The Book Thief” in the case of the monologues of Death. The work was carried out in line with current philological and interdisciplinary research in the field of translation studies. In the course of the study, the peculiarities of the use of color meanings in a literary text and the ways of their translation are considered. The translation of colour terms involved in 513 contexts had been examined by our research. By means of a comparative method, an analysis of the translation of color terms from English into Russian and Spanish was made. The structure of the work consists of two chapters: theoretical and practical. The theoretical part deals with the theoretical background of the study of color terms; methods of classification of color terms; color terms in the literary text and the specifics of their translation; different approaches to the classification of lexico-grammatical transformations. In the practical part, the classification of color terms involved in the novel is derived; a comparative analysis of the transformations used in the translation of the novel from English to Spanish is made; the regularity of the use of certain transformations in the translation of color terms belonging to a particular group is revealed; the main issues in the translation of color terms are classified; the analysis of the symbolization of the main color terms in the novel is made. In conclusion, the research findings are presented.
