Strateginės analizės instrumentarijaus modeliavimas mažose ir vidutinėse įmonėse / Modelling of Strategic Analysis Instrumentarium at Small and Medium - sized EnterprisesVaitkevičius, Sigitas 19 April 2006 (has links)
The doctoral thesis is concerned with the issues that are faced when selecting strategic analysis tools to be used in small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) in the process of strategic management. The paper comprises three parts.
The first part presents a discussion on the methodology of strategic analysis and the application of its tools in SME. As a result, the taxonomy of 40 strategic analysis tools applied in business organizations (including SME) was designed. In addition, the „model of strategic tune“, defining the correlation of „a dominating strategy type“, „the size of an enterprise“, and „the nature of strategic analysis“, was formed in this part.
The second part describes the methodologies to study the application of strategic analysis tools. In the course of research project, two individual empirical studies were conducted: 1) expert evaluation study of strategic analysis tools, during which the criteria for expert evaluation of 40 strategic analysis tools were prepared; 2) SME owners, executives and specialists‘ testing and survey.
The third part of the thesis indicates the results of the study into the application of strategic analysis tools. While combining theoretical and empirical methods and using various classification criteria, four typologies of strategic analysis tools were designed. Factual material reflecting SME executives‘ scope of knowledge and their perceptions and attitudes towards strategic analysis was collected by means of testing and... [to full text]

Geležinkelio ruožo „Vilnius – Turmantas“ pastatų (XIX a.II p.- XX a. I p.) architektūros raiška / Railway buildings architectural expression on the section Vilnius - Turmantas (time-period between second half of the 19th c. – first half of the 20th c.)Zacharov, Sergej 08 July 2009 (has links)
Darbe apimamas laikotarpis nuo jos atsiradimo XIX a. viduryje iki XX a. antros pusės, kai po prasiautusio karo geležinkelyje prasidėjo naujas statybos etapas.
Darbe nustatomos dažniausiai ir rečiausiai sutinkamos architektūrinės raiškos priemonės, pastatai turintys išskirtinius bruožus. Apibrėžiamas architektūrinės raiškos priemonių ypatybės bei jų naudojimo priežastingumas.
Baigiamojo darbo struktūrą sudaro įvadas, trys pagrindiniai skyriai ir išvados. Darbo pabaigoje pateikiami apibendrinimai ir išvados, naudotos literatūros ir iliustracijų sąrašai.
Darbo apimtis – 99 p. teksto be priedų , 105 iliustr., 10 lent... [toliau žr. visą tekstą] / The main objective of the thesis is the analysis of Railway facility buildings architectural expression at the section „Turmantas - Vilnius“ (part of the railway line „St. Petersburg – Warsaw“) and its typology system formation. Buildings composition as well as their disposition is analysed, the main factors behind the composition properties are characterized. What is more, a lot of attention is paid to railway buildings typology system creation. Its main purpose is to discern clearly what buildings really are railway facilities precisely their functions. The work also discusses harmonization tools in architecture, such as symmetry and asymmetry, proportions, rhythm, contrast and nuance, harmony of proportions. Railway section „Turmantas - Vilnius“ is the oldest in Lithuania. The paper coveres time-period between second half of the 19th c. (time of the railway line foundation) and first half of the 20th c. (when new construction stage after World War II has begun). The paper sets out the least and the most frequently found architectural expression (harmoniztion) tools, buildings which have special features. Final structure of the work consists of an introduction, three main sections, generalizations and conclusions as well as literature and illustrations lists. Thesis consist of: 99 p. text without extras, 105 pictures, 10 tables, 5 diagrams, 79 bibliographical entries. 9 appendixes included (in total 56 p., 68 pictures, 13 tables).

Responsiveness and its institutionalisation in higher educationVan Schalkwyk, François January 2010 (has links)

This thesis proposes a typology of responsiveness in order to reduce interpretive ambiguity and to provide a framework which makes possible an assessment of the extent to which responsiveness is likely to be institutionalised in higher education. The typology is tested at two universities. The findings indicate that the typology developed can be deployed to reveal insight into how responsiveness is manifesting at universities. The findings around institutionalisation of responsiveness are less conclusive but indicate that while there is evidence of the institutionalisation of a particular type of university responsiveness, the process is at best partial as the academic heartland of higher education systems remain slow to accept the demands made by the state, university leadership and other stakeholders for more responsive universities.

A Question of Method: Architettura Razionale and the XV Milan Triennale of 1973De Paola, Pasquale 2011 December 1900 (has links)
My doctoral work aims to construct a theoretical and intellectual framework to understand a set of remarkable developments concerning the Italian discourse on architecture from the early 1950s to the mid 1970s. This was when the term Rationalism and its theoretical body of work acquired renewed prestige replacing the ephemeral aesthetic of the modernist movement with a grounded discourse based on a deep understanding of the city as background of all architectural artifacts.
The main hypothesis of my research is that this return to a rational methodology characterized by a deep understanding of architecture's internal building logic and identifiable in the work and ideas expressed in the International section of the XV Triennale Exhibition of 1973 had a significant and lasting impact on the thinking and formation of architecture culture in Italy and worldwide.
This dissertation will thus attempt to construct a matrix of historical and methodological associations and demonstrations that validate and legitimize that rational methodology through a close examination of the work and key concepts of Tendenza, a group of architects in the Italy of the 1960s, pointing out their importance in preparing the ground for the International section of the XV Triennale Exhibition of 1973, which represented a major point of arrival and a point of departure for architecture culture in Italy and worldwide.

Bayesian Models for Multilingual Word AlignmentÖstling, Robert January 2015 (has links)
In this thesis I explore Bayesian models for word alignment, how they can be improved through joint annotation transfer, and how they can be extended to parallel texts in more than two languages. In addition to these general methodological developments, I apply the algorithms to problems from sign language research and linguistic typology. In the first part of the thesis, I show how Bayesian alignment models estimated with Gibbs sampling are more accurate than previous methods for a range of different languages, particularly for languages with few digital resources available—which is unfortunately the state of the vast majority of languages today. Furthermore, I explore how different variations to the models and learning algorithms affect alignment accuracy. Then, I show how part-of-speech annotation transfer can be performed jointly with word alignment to improve word alignment accuracy. I apply these models to help annotate the Swedish Sign Language Corpus (SSLC) with part-of-speech tags, and to investigate patterns of polysemy across the languages of the world. Finally, I present a model for multilingual word alignment which learns an intermediate representation of the text. This model is then used with a massively parallel corpus containing translations of the New Testament, to explore word order features in 1001 languages.

Beyond lip service : an analysis of labrets and their social context on the Pacific Northwest Coast of British ColumbiaLa Salle, Marina J. 11 1900 (has links)
This thesis provides an analysis of the history and social context of the labret (lip plug) on the Northwest Coast of British Columbia over the last 5,000 years. Although labrets have typically been characterized as markers of ‘status’ with connotations of gender, the variability in observations made by early explorers and ethnographers suggests that this simplistic depiction belies a complexity in what aspect of social identity this form of personal communicated. Therefore, this research has sought to explore the relationship between labrets and social identity by conducting a comprehensive typological analysis by which to examine patterning in materiality through time and space. Although hindered by a lack of temporal data and contextual information on gender association, the results of this research demonstrate that there is geographical patterning at multiple scales—regional, sub-regional and even on the village or site level—which supports the hypothesis that the labret has been an exclusionary tradition conveying both individual and group social identity that varies through time and space in this region. The social meaning of labrets is further explored through research on contemporary labret use, which highlights a tension between individual expression and group acceptance that is expressed materially, contrasting the physical permanence of the labret and the mutability in social meaning conveyed. Finally, interviews with First Nations artists who include labrets in their art has shown that cultural identity both informs and is informed by a concept of shared heritage; thus, the labret is a symbol and expression of social identity that continues to hold significant meaning for the descendants of this heritage. Therefore, while simple correlations of the labret with ‘status’ and ‘gender’ are not wrong, nonetheless they betray the complexity of body ornamentation which, though manifested materially, is highly contextual. This research contributes to the ongoing anthropological discussion of materiality and identity, considering the ways that structured style is negotiated through practice, and asking whether this recursive, dynamic and dialectical relationship can be accessed archaeologically—a task that ultimately requires a commitment to reflexivity, multivocality, and critical examination of the research process itself.

Aspects of intonation and prosody in Bininj Gun-wok: an autosegmental-metrical analysisBishop, Judith Bronwyn January 2003 (has links)
This dissertation presents a qualitative and quantitative analysis of aspects of the intonation and prosody of an Australian polysynthetic language, Bininj Gun-wok (BGW; also referred to as Mayali). The theoretical framework is autosegmental-metrical phonology, as adapted to the description of intonation by Pierrehumbert (1980); Bruce (1977) and others. The analysis focuses principally on two dialects, Kuninjku and Manyallaluk Mayali (MM), with some reference to the Kunwinjku, Kune, Gun-Djeihmi and Kundedjnjenghmi dialects.
