While I was searching for inspiration to write about the elderly care, I after a while found a gap of knowledge. I considered the concept ‘person-centered care’ to be comprehensive and ample, and therefore I was surprise to find an absence of research that involved the home care within the elderly care. All of the knowledge I found considering elderly people and person-centered care, involved elderly people who live in residential homes or elderly people diagnosed with dementia. I had trouble finding research that referred to elderly people who are not diagnosed with dementia and that live in ordinary accommodation. Therefore I decided to illustrate this area in my essay. To accomplish my investigation I utilized a qualitative method. I implemented semi structured interviews with caregivers that are working in home care with elders who are not diagnosed with dementia and who live in ordinary accommodations. I later on analyzed my empirical material using the analysis thematization. During my investigation I concluded that there are benefits regarding the aspiration for a person-centered care even within the home care of the elderly care that refer to people who are not diagnosed with dementia and who live in ordinary accommodations. A person-centered care creates possibilities for the elders to in a greater extent keep their self-determination, the caregivers experience a greater satisfaction among the elders regarding the care and service they are provided, which also means that the caregivers experience a greater satisfaction with the care and service they provide. The implementation plans that are prepared for the elders needs and requests, function as an instrument to concretize the needs and request, which enable an aspiration for person-centered care. As well as I found that there are benefits with a person-centered care, some obstacles emerged concerning the implementation of a person-centered care. Inter alia some of my respondents expressed that the aspect of time was crucial, but also the values among colleagues and the support from the manager can have an impact and be seen as an obstacle regarding the implementation of a person-centered care. Except for these obstacles it is also important that the layers of the organization strive for resembling goals and values to enable an aspiration for a person-centered care.

Salutogent förhållningssätt och ett värdigt liv inom äldreomsorgenCortenbach, Maria, Gullstrand, Sandra January 2012 (has links)
Our study aims to examine whether managers in elderly care areworking from a salutogenic approach to create a dignified life forthe residents. By this we are trying to find out how you look at lifein dignity and what meaning it has, what similarities and whatdifferences there are. We also want to explore what they want toachieve with their work and what they do to enable it. Thequestions we asked ourselves what the salutogenic approach is formanagers working in nursing homes. How do they look at a decentlife and we ask ourselves the question of the salutogenic approachis just a "buzzword" in a working man always had or there are realdifferences? The method we have chosen to use is a web-basedquestionnaire that we sent to our sample. To get the most from sucha high response rate as possible, we also sent out a few reminders. The result we got shows in as many as 98% of the managers knowwhat a salutogenic approach involves the remaining 2% had partialknowledge of its meaning, the loss we had may be because therespondents did not know what the term meant. The majority 67%of respondents had been in contact with the concept sometimebetween 2000 -2012, which can be attached to the dignity of theinvestigation that led to a legislative change in the SOL Chapter 5 §4 of the elderly and their quality of life, the theory of ethicalperspectives we have chosen to analyze answers aregerotranscendence, activity theory, Maslow's theory andempowerment theory. Conclusions we have found in this study isthat many activities have the objective of becoming moreindividual-based and in an effort that the residents should be able tofeel the dignity and quality of life. Our interpretation of this studyis that the salutogenic approach is a buzzword.

This composition aims to investigate, trough a discourse analysis, how the public investigations of the government construct the conception of influence and dignity for older persons. The main result of the analysis is that influence for older persons are perceived as something collective that develops to something more individual, that government tries to ascribe older persons new roles and that the government tend to perceive the old person as something secluded from the rest of the society.

Go In and Out and Turn Inside Out : A Qualitative Study Regarding How Professional Caregivers in Homecare Organisations Work to Insure a Life with Dignity for the ElderlyJosefsson Särner, Catharina, Halén, Johanna January 2013 (has links)
The aim of this study was to increase the knowledge about if and how the National Value System’s goal of a life with dignity for the elderly pervades the work in home care organisations. The study was based on a qualitative research method and was conducted through interviews with professional care givers in home care organisations, there were five individual interviews and one pair interview. The background for this study was the National Value System for the eldercare that was introduced in 2011. The theory of New Public Management and the concept of Rationality of Caring were used to analyse the result. New Public Management introduces a strategy of competition tendering by signing deals with the company that give the best offer, in order to increase the quality and efficiency of organisations. An important part of New Public Management is that the leaders in organisations have control of what is happening in the organisation in order to further increase the quality and efficiency. The Rationality of Caring is about having the care recipients’ needs and wishes as a primary force of action. The study shows that professional care givers work in a way that promotes a life with dignity for the elderly and that they act with a rationality of caring, but the rationality that rules the organisations in which they work precludes their way of working. The Politicians definition of rationality, which is about the efficiency and quality that can be measured, is the one that is prioritized. It also shows that the organisation priorities small time-consumption and standardized services in order to increase the efficiency. It is found that the professional caregivers perceive that the demand for documentation and other administrative tasks has increased and as a result of this the elderly does not receive the time they have been granted.

On complementary protection and the right to a dignified lifeLindered, Susanne January 2018 (has links)
Armed conflicts of our time tend to be prolonged, characterised by indiscriminate violence and the direct targeting of civilians. These conflicts cause situations where civilians are not only at risk of being exposed to threats of direct violence, but also unbearable humanitarian situations, a form of indirect harm resulting from armed violence. Current protection regimes only address direct harm to civilians, which leaves a significant protection gap. Previous research has identified a possibility for recognising severe humanitarian conditions as a basis for international protection in recent human rights law developments. This thesis explores if the right to a dignified life can further address this form of indirect harm to civilians and create assessment criteria for providing international protection to persons fleeing severe humanitarian conditions caused by armed conflict. The right to a dignified life is constructed from theories on human dignity as a basis for human rights, as well as case law from the Inter-American Court of Human Rights and the European Court of Human Rights. The results show that the right to a dignified life is able to provide criteria for assessing the severity of a humanitarian situation and establish a threshold for triggering international protection, but several legal difficulties remain for its practical application.
