One of the objectives is to get an overview of the differences related to characteristics of design and construction between serial and parallel kinematic structure (PKS) of the industrial robots, as a new type of technical objects in robotics. In addition the aim is to create an original structural design of linear unit, as the basic constructional assembly and operational node of robot with PKS, according to the specified input values, such as power, pressure, speed and stroke, important for the design of linear hydraulic actuator.

Part of the dissertation is manufacturing of prototype and its test. Finally, conclusions for further development are made.

An atmospheric resistor, also called disk stack, is a stack of disks through which the medium flows and the system of labyrinths in disk stack causing a pressure reduction of medium. This thesis describe design of the mechanical parts of stand for atmospheric resistors, choice pneumatic circuit’s components, data acquisition hardware for measuring flow, inlet and outlet pressure, and temperature. The software was created in LabVIEW programming environment. In the end of this paper was done measurement in order to test functionality of test stand and software.

Properly inerting a fuel cell is an essential function for the safety and durability of the product. DAM designs and produces a bypass valve to effectively inert the fuel cell while maintaining the oxidant gas flow in the compressor. The system provides a short closing and opening response time less than 100 ms, while consuming very little energy. In addition to cutting off the oxidant gas supply, the valve can be used to drain the fuel cell, optimize the shutdown and startup cycles, and even optimize the inerting of the fuel cell through the hydrogen circuit. DAM has already produced valve prototypes in diameters 16 mm and 50 mm which are currently in the test phase with first successful results, and whose functions can be extended with a position sensor or heating system. / Die geeignete Inertisierung einer Brennstoffzelle ist eine wesentliche Funktion für die Sicherheit und Lebensdauer des Produkts. DAM entwickelt und produziert ein Bypass-Ventil, das die Brennstoffzelle effektiv inertisiert und gleichzeitig den Oxidationsmittel-Gasstrom im Kompressor aufrechterhält. Das System bietet eine kurze Schließ- und Öffnungszeit von weniger als 100 ms und verbraucht dabei sehr wenig Energie. Neben der Unterbrechung der Oxidationsgaszufuhr kann das Ventil auch zum Entleeren der Brennstoffzelle, zur Optimierung der Abschalt- und Anfahrzyklen und sogar zur Optimierung der Inertisierung der Brennstoffzelle durch den Wasserstoffkreislauf eingesetzt werden. The first part of this work focuses on ways to replace missing source voice in case of patients after total laryngectomy. The commonly used methods of voice rehabilitation are mentioned. Simple computational models are used to explore several principles of generating artificial source voice. Based on the knowledge of how a healthy human voice is generated, one of the ways to generate artificial source voice was chosen – a reed-based element in the configuration (-, +). The function of the reed-based element is based on a periodic bending of the reed and in the airflow cutoff created by this motion. The (-,+) configuration of the reed-based element causes a different behaviour, when compared to healthy vocal folds, important is, however, whether the generated acoustic signal has the right spectral characteristics, which enable the generation of voiced vowels of the human speech. Both experimental and computational models are used to study the behaviour of the reed-based element. The design of the experimental model is based on the preliminary experiments with simple reed-based elements, which were carried out at the beginning of my studies. The new experimental model is designed in such a way, that it enables changes to the reed geometry and its position towards the reed stop. The measurements carried out on the experimental model are mainly acoustical (measurements of the generated acoustical signal), but optical measurements of the reed´s movement and position are possible and used as well. Because of the nature of the reed-based element´s behavior, the fluid structure interaction must be taken into consideration in the computational model. A two-way model of fluid structure interaction is used between the fluid part of the computational model and the structural one. A partitioned solution is used to solve the fluid-structure interaction. The effect of specific input parameters on the function of both models (experimental and computational) is monitored. The influences of input parameters on the basic frequency of the generated signal (source voice), on the stability of the function and on other important characteristics are evaluated. The final chapters focus on the design of voice prosthesis in general. Some specific issues, which need to be solved when designing voice prosthesis, are highlighted.

Stimuli-sensitive hydrogels have an outstanding potential for miniaturized, integrated sensor, and actuator systems and especially for lab-on-chip technology, but the application is still in its infancy. One major reason may be that design and realization of hydrogel-based systems are exceptionally complex and demanding. Here, the design parameters of a key component, the hydrogel-based valve, are discussed in their entirety. Key developments in the fields of stimuli-sensitive hydrogels are highlighted and the necessary know-how in material behavior, microstructuring technologies, modeling and name five essential design guidelines as well as scaling laws for hydrogelbased components, including microfluidic one-directional valves, microelectromechanical systems valves, self-regulating, chemomechanical valves, and chemofluidic transistors, is provided.

Autotube är ett företag baserat i Varberg som utvecklar och producerar luft- och vätskelösningar främst inom bilindustrin. På senare tid har biltillverkarna skiftat till högre bränsletryck i bensindrivna förbränningsmotorer vilket har lett till att företagets produktutvecklingsavdelning saknar testutrustning för att utveckla nya produkter vilket i sin tur har lett till att företaget köpt tjänsten från extern leverantör. Kostnaderna och den bristande insynen i trycktester hos extern leverantör har lett Autotube att investera i ny utrustning och bedriva framtida tester i företagets lokaler. Ambitionen är att testanläggningen ska kunna genomföra tryckpulser och sprängprover både för produktutveckling och stickprov. Det övergripande syftet med examensarbetet är att programmera PLC logiken, designa HMI-panelen och skapa en elektriskt överförbar rapport efter genomfört testutförande. Under projektets progression visade studier och företagets empiriska kunskaper att resultatet från testanläggningen karakteriseras av tre nyckelparametrar; funktionsduglighet, realtidsövervakning och datahantering. Varje kategori har givetvis flera underkategorier som adderar värde till nyckelparametrarna. För funktionsduglighet krävs pålitlig hårdvara som klarar av att vara driftsatt under lång tid utan avbrott. Dock om ett avbrott från yttre faktorer skulle inträffa behöver testanläggningen programmeras för att spara data och undvika att testresultaten raderas. För att undvika irritation och handhavandefel bör användargränssnittet vara utformad efter målgruppens behov och mängden information bör begränsas. God realtidsövervakning ställer krav på lättåtkomlig information både vid testanläggningen och på distans vilket ökar möjligheten att läsa av testutförandes värden oberoende av vart användaren befinner sig. För att minska användarens arbetsbelastning bör varningssignaler som indikerar när testanläggningen inte utför önskvärt arbete användas. Datahantering bör ske automatiserat för att tillse att rätt data lagras och att den mänskliga faktorn kringgås. Flertalet rapporter under testutförandets förlopp är fördelaktigt för jämförelse av testutförandets olika skeden vilket ökar insikten om vad som skett när och möjliggör en djupare analys av testutförandet. Det genomförda arbetet har analyserat olika alternativ och använt litteratur relevant till nyckelparametrarna tillsammans med kontinuerlig återkoppling från företagets tekniker för att skapa mjukvaran till testanläggningen. Resultatet är en pålitlig anläggning med skräddarsydd realtidsövervakning och automatisk datahantering. / Autotube is a company based in Varberg that develops and produces air- and fluid solutions primarily to the automotive industry. Recently the automotive manufacturers have increased the fuel injection pressure in petrol engines which has led to the absence of proper test equipment which limits the company’s product development department as pressure test has to be bought by a third-party company. The costs and lack of insight in the pressure tests that is associated with purchasing the service from a third part company has led Autotube to invest in new equipment that will allow the company to do future tests in-house. The ambition is to perform pressure pulsation tests and burst tests for both product development and production samples. The general purpose of the thesis is to program the PLC logic, design the HMI-panel and to create and electrically transferrable report after test completion. During the progression of the project studies and the company’s empirical knowledge showed that the result from a test facility is characterized primarily by three key parameters; functionality, real time monitoring and data management. Each category includes several subcategories that adds value to each key parameter. Functionality requires reliable hardware that can stay commissioned for extended periods of times without Interruption. However, if interruptions do occur it is important that the data from the ongoing test is saved so that data is not lost. To avoid irritation and mishandling it’s important to design the user interface according to the needs of the users and to avoid excessive information that is not vital for the result. A proper real time monitoring solution requires that information is easily available both at the location of the test facility and at distance in order to enable to user to act no matter where the user is located. Warning signals that indicate when the test facility does not perform as expected should be used in order to reduce the workload. Data management should be automatic in order to store the correct data and prevent errors caused by the human factor. Several reports should be used during the test as it allows the user to compare the data in the different test stages which improves the insight and analysis capability of the performed test. The performed work has analysed different alternatives and used literature relevant to the key parameters combined with continuous feedback from the company’s technicians in order to create the software for the test facility. The result is a reliable facility with tailored real time monitoring and automatic data management.

Rapporten är skriven för att dokumentera den befintliga installationen av ballast-, läns- och brandsystem ombord på fartyget M/S Calmare Nyckel. I enlighet med uppdragets specifika-tioner kommer även förslag på förbättringar att presenteras. Förslagen bygger till största del på fakta från en leverantör av ventilkomponenter och av klassen ställda krav på installationen. Förbättringarna beaktar i huvudsak minskade risker och ökad säkerhet. De största skillnaderna med de nya förslagen är att länsvattensystemet skiljs från de övriga systemen, de viktigaste funktionerna fjärrstyrs med hjälp av pneumatik och systemets komponenter märks enligt branchstandard. / This report is produced to document the existing installation regarding the ballast, bilge and fire system aboard the vessel M/S Calmare Nyckel. According to the specifications of the assignment a proposal regarding improvements will also be presented. The suggestions are mainly based on data from a supplier of valve components and the demands put up by the classification society. The improvements are considered with reduced risk and increased safety in mind. The main differences in the new proposals are the separation of the bilge system from the other two systems, that the most vital functions can be remote-controlled by pneumatics and that all components are marked according to industry standard.
