Don't Put Your Shoes on the Bed: A Moral Analysis of To Kill a Mockingbird.

Stiltner, MitziAnn 01 December 2002 (has links) (PDF)
Harper Lee wrote a remarkable novel which provides a great deal of moral insight for its readers; through a use of history, moral instruction, and character development, Lee establishes a foundation for how people in an often intolerant world should live peacefully together. Moreover, she reminds the reader that regardless of socioeconomic status or race everyone deserves to be treated with respect and kindness. In establishing this moral analysis one must consider the historical source of Tom Robinson’s trial, the Scottsboro Trial; the Finch children’s consistent and exemplified instruction from their widowed father, Atticus, their housekeeper, Calpurina, and other close neighbors; and the symbolic representation of the mockingbird as a peaceful and protective creature which generally gets along with other bird species.

Automatic Geometric Data Migration Throughout Views of a Model Fidelity Family

Soderquist, Hans L. 05 March 2006 (has links) (PDF)
Changes in geometric model parameters are constant throughout the design process. Each group in an organization needs different model information at varying times during the design process. As a result many different models of the same part or assembly arise for the needs and use of each group in each design phase (from conceptual design to full product definition). When one group makes changes to a model, those changes need to be reflected in all of the models which describe the product in all groups and design phases in order for those changes to be verified against all design criteria that were set, and for those changes to be seen by downstream users in the design process. This thesis describes a method for linking these models together which will provide revision control, assuming all models can be updated from any of the other models which define the product and allow for these models to be parameterized using different schemes.

Exploring the Relationship Between Critical Resource Variables and School Performance in Secondary Schools of Mukono Uganda

Mugimu, Christopher Byalusago 09 November 2004 (has links) (PDF)
While good facilities and resources are assumed to affect the quality of teaching and school performance, findings of the growing body of research about resources and school performance remain obscure and highly contested. A central question in effective schooling research is to what extent do resources translate into school performance particularly in impoverished communities of the developing countries. The primary purpose of this study was to examine the relationships between school-level financial, physical, and human resources on school performance as measured by aggregated UCE exam scores in 63 secondary schools. This study is grounded in the strategic theoretical perspective of Resource-Based View (RBV), which suggests that specific resources and capabilities can lead to superior performance. The findings of this study are mixed. While some results of this study indicated that the three kinds of resources (i.e. financial, physical, and human) contributed to school performance of secondary schools in Mukono Uganda, particular kinds of resources contributed more on school performance than others and the size of their effect differed widely. The researcher argues that if educators and policy makers can identify the critical resources that best contribute to student learning, then schools could be encouraged to invest in, nurture, and maintain these particular resources. This strategic focus would allow schools, especially in developing countries, to more efficiently and effectively use their current meager resources to maximize benefits to students.

Joseph Smith's View of His Own Calling

Boyle, Tucker John 12 July 2007 (has links) (PDF)
The Prophet Joseph Smith stood in a unique position as the leader of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He held positions of translator, prophet, seer and revelator. He was taught the responsibilities of his calling as he translated ancient scripture - the Book of Mormon and the Bible. He was further instructed concerning his calling as he received revelations contained in the Doctrine and Covenants. This study examines scriptural passages that surely influenced the Prophet's understanding of his own calling. It then illustrates Joseph Smith's view of his calling as evidenced by statements in his writings and discourses. It examines what he understood to be his duties in his position as President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and head of the dispensation of the fullness of times.

Exploring how to utilise Human Capital in a transformation, from a resources-based view-perspective : A case study on human capital through a transformation

Åhman, Henrik, Nyberg, Jonathan January 2022 (has links)
Firms today are confronting a dynamic business environment such as change of customer preferences, demographics, business and organisational models and the emergence of new technologies. Changes in the business environment can lead to knowledge-based firms transforming their business structure and risking losing their competitive advantage by ignoring their value in human capital. Human capital originates from intellectual capital which consists of both social and organisational capital as well. The combination and utilisation of these capitals is the basis for organisations to achieve higher levels of productivity and competitiveness. However, when facing a transformation, organisations tend to struggle to maintain competitive advantage. Thus, in a knowledge-based industry, human capital along with the other capitals, are essential to manage during a transformation to not risk losing competitive advantage. To address this topic, we chose to investigate a Swedish company in the machine manufacturing industry undergoing a transformation, referred to as Company X. Company X consists of highly educated and competent personnel, who previously have operated as a project-based organisation. They are currently transforming their organisation towards standardising their production and their employees’ competences. This transformation is directly affecting their work methods, competence demand and overall human capital. We found that Company X has a recruitment strategy which acts as a proactive measure which allows them to procure necessary human capital to maintain their competitive advantage and prepare for change. It was also concluded that Company X struggles with communication which affects their social capital, and thus their human capital. The lack of communication affects the vision and goal of the transformation which becomes unclear for the employees, causing confusion. We concluded that Company X lacks a decent strategy of utilising best practices, which is common for project-based organisation, but becomes more problematic as they become product-based and are more dependent on previous experiences.

En studie av Rydaholmsmetoden som intervention på gymnasiet - utfall och pedagogiska konsekvenser

Svensson, Henrik, Winner, Anna January 2010 (has links)
Intervention with the Rydaholm Method at Upper Secondary School - Results and Pedagogical Consequences

Crisis of Window. Lost Purpose of Daylight Opening

Milkeviciute, Agne January 2018 (has links)
This thesis concentrates on problematic field of architectural education and practice related to window role. Phenomena of window loosing it’s primary functional purpose [inside-outside connection in terms of view and daylight] and becoming more decorative element of the facade. This paper content consists of analysis of case studies by evaluating window provided light and view qualities using qualitative and quantitative methods in chosen office buildings. Analysis and results are followed by the discussion of window role oppositions between architect’s and user’s perspective together with secondary topics coming out of it. As the result of analysis and discussion - guidelines for window design are suggested and conclusive experiment of their customization is demonstrated. This thesis concentrates on awareness of window identity crisis as well as examine and provide simple manners, which can increase quality of daylight and view through the openings in architectural planning.

SYSTEMATIC SOCIAL OBSERVATION OF PHYSICAL DISORDER IN INNER-CITY URBAN NEIGHBORHOODS THROUGH GOOGLE STREET VIEW: THE CORRELATION BETWEEN VIRTUALLY OBSERVED PHYSICAL DISORDER, SELF-REPORTED DISORDER AND VICTIMIZATION OF PROPERTY CRIMES

Kronkvist, Karl January 2013 (has links)
The correlation of physical environment and crime has been an ever relevant topic in the criminological discourse. This study attempts to unravel whether physical disorder in inner-city urban neighborhoods may be studied through Google Street View as a virtual observational tool. The aims of the study is to examine whether virtually observed and self-reported perceived level of neighborhood disorder measure the same phenomenon, and whether virtually observed physical disorder may explain variations of self-reported victimization of property crimes. By conducting virtual observations of physical disorder in twenty inner-city neighborhoods of Malmö through Google Street View, the results of the study propose that virtually observed and self-reported perceived level of disorder is strongly correlated and thus seems to measure the same phenomenon to a great extent. The results of the study also imply that observed physical disorder through Google Street View also accounts for neighborhood differences in victimization of property crimes. The study concludes that virtual observation through Google Street View is a promising and potentially cost-effective alternative approach when auditing neighborhood physical disorder. The methodology does however suffer by limitations which is highlighted and thoroughly discussed.

kropp som kropp. Tankar och resonemang kring kroppsliga perspektiv i skolan

moritz, eva January 2008 (has links)
It was the purpose of the present study to explore thoughts and lines of reasonings concerning body perspectives in school. Based on students at a secondary school and on analyses of the curricula of the school, I reason about how we see the human being and the importance of it in school. In the introduction I start out from observations and highlight the body as a communicative channel leading up to the issue of students’ basic view of man as integrated or devided in body and soul. A study of twelve interviews of students shows that thoughts about the two perspectives had not been identified until now but that a great deal of interest existed for discussion on this subject. The definition of the basic outlook as dualistic or phenomenological is not clarified in the curriculum which means there is a scope of interpretation. The study makes clear that neither the students nor the curriculum have a well-reasoned and common starting-point. The study is about an overall view and highlights the different views and thoughts about the development of school. It is an holistic approach and an attempt to grasp body perspectives like body language, human deversity, experience, the way we use the spoken language, the complexity of our reason and actions. Perspectives that may affect our own view on the human being where our consciousness has a central role.
