Relationen mellan nivån av våldsbrottslighet och personer i rörelse på Hötorget. En kvantitativ studie

Mellado, Elizabeth January 2017 (has links)
In this quantitative study, the relationship between the level of mobility and the amount of violent crimes in Hötorget is studied. Through univariate and bivariate analyses of secondary data, the times in which the crimes were committed along with the amount of people moving in the area were studied. It was revealed that there was indeed a correlation between the two variables and that changes in one variable also led to changes in the other. Lastly, the results showed that the amount of violent crimes reached its peak when there were few people moving in the neighborhood and this occurred both during the weekdays and the weekend.

Manliga och kvinnliga förövare i true crime : En kvalitativ studie om mediers gestaltning av manliga och kvinnliga våldsbrottsförövare samt mediers orsaksförklaringar / The male and female perpetrator in True Crime : A qualitative document study on The media´s portrayal of male and female perpetrators of violent crimes and The media´s causal explanations.

Nyrén, Moa, Sandquist, Tea January 2023 (has links)
This study investigates how the medier portray male and female offenders who committed deadly violence. The purpose of this study is to examine whether the medier portray male and female violence offenders’ characteristics differently or not and to explain why these differences are in that case. Furthermore, if there are any differences in how medier portray the violence offenders’ motives. The method used to gather the data was a qualitative document study where different sound and picture mediers where used, and the medier´s used consists of Swedish documentaries and podcasts about different Swedish crimes. The theoretical framework that has been used as a help to analyze the empirical material consist of West and Zimmerman’s theory doing gender, Becker´s labeling theory and lastly Goffman’s theory about stigma. As a compliment to the theoretical framework several earlier studies about male and female offenders have been used to analyze the material as well. The result from the study shows that there is in fact a difference in how medier portray the genders and the motives, where the most frequent cause of the portrayal was due to gender norms. In summary, this study illustrates that Swedish medier are entertaining the gender norms formed by society.

The Structural Brain Correlates of Psychopathy and Violent Crime

Abas Hashmi, Zaynab, Pettersson, Wilma January 2023 (has links)
Psychopathy is a frequently reported personality trait among violent offenders, and psychopaths have a higher rate of recidivism than inmates without psychopathic features. This systematic review aimed to investigate whether structural brain differences, measured with magnetic resonance imaging, are observed in violent offenders with psychopathy compared to violent offenders without psychopathy or healthy non-violent controls. We followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. The search utilised the academic databases Web of Science and Medline EBSCO and included original peer-reviewed articles written in English and published between 2013 and 2023. Seven articles fulfilling the inclusion criteria were selected for the review. The findings indicated that there are structural differences between violent psychopaths compared to non-violent psychopaths and healthy controls, such as reduced grey matter volume in the prefrontal cortical areas, posterior cingulate cortex and precuneus, and striatal and limbic regions. Further, the degree of structural brain differences in psychopaths correlated with the degree of psychopathic traits. The structural differences found in the brains of violent psychopaths can provide insight into the neurobiological basis and neural mechanisms of psychopathy and elucidate how changes in brain morphology relate to antisocial behaviour and psychopathic personality traits. In addition, the evidence of structural abnormalities in the brain of psychopaths may help develop targeted treatments that could reduce the risk of psychopathic individuals turning to crime and violence or committing repeated violent crimes.

Borderline Personality Disorder and Violent Crime: The Moderating Role of Sex and Race

Allison, Genevieve 01 December 2022 (has links)
People receiving treatment for substance use disorders (SUD) are at risk of justice involvement. Although it is well-established that borderline personality disorder (BPD) increases risk for criminal involvement, it is unclear whether this relationship exists among people with SUDs. Furthermore, prior research has found sex and race differences in the relationships between BPD and justice involvement as well as violence, but these moderators have not been explored within a substance using sample. The current study utilized a sample receiving SUD treatment to examine whether BPD is associated with prior violent charges and, if race and sex moderated this relationship. Results indicated that presence of BPD was associated with violent charges, and there may be sex differences in this relationship (OR = 4.04, 95% CI = .90; 18.18, p = .069). This study contributes to knowledge of how BPD increases risk for violent charges among people receiving SUD treatment.

HELICOPTER PATROLS AS DETERRENTS FOR VIOLENT CRIMES : Assessing Effectiveness in Swedish Cities

Steingrímsdóttir, Ólafía Laufey January 2024 (has links)
This study examined the effectiveness of helicopter patrols in reducing violent crime rates in three Swedish cities: Malmö, Lund, and Helsingborg. Utilizing Swedish official crime records from 2016 to 2019 and helicopter data from an intervention conducted between August 9th and October 9th, 2019, the study employed quantitative methods, including multiple linear regressions and two-way fixed effects models, to analyse the impact of helicopter presence and dosage on various types of violent crimes. Findings indicated that neither helicopter presence nor dosage demonstrated a significant effect on violent crime variables across the three cities. Moreover, when included as control variables in the fixed effects models, Malmöfestivalen and weather variables did not alter the relationship between the helicopter intervention and any of the violent crime variables. The study concludes that helicopter patrols lack a deterrent effect on violent crimes, suggesting the need for reallocating resources to more effective policing strategies. Suggestions for future research include exploring other crime types, conducting cost-benefit analyses, and investigating the long-term implications of helicopter patrols.

After that, the issue of the crime of murder from the point of view of criminal law is already addressed, especially by its inclusion within the system of intentional killing, which is contained in the current Criminal Code. At the beginning, the elements of a crime of murder are characterized and typified. Then the space is given to analysis the types of murders and their features as they are defined in § 140 of the Criminal Code....

"Deadly Women": Examining (Audio)Visual (Re)Presentations of Violent Women and Girls in Infotainment Media

Scheuneman Scott, Isabel January 2016 (has links)
Women have historically been the subject of stereotypes – especially criminalized women as they are constructed in the mass media. These stereotypes become particularly problematic when they are invoked in infotainment media – a genre that combines information and entertainment and presents itself as primarily factual. As such, ideological messages delivered through infotainment are also (re)presented as truthful and may be more likely to be taken up by an unquestioning audience. This research aimed to answer the following research question: How does infotainment portray women who commit serious violent crime? In order to answer this question, a qualitative content analysis was employed and “Deadly Women”, a televised infotainment series that narrates and re-enacts true crime stories of women who kill, was selected as a case study. The sample consisted of previously identified typologies: mothers who kill their children, women who kill their partners, adolescent girls who kill, and vigilantes who kill their abusers. Stemming from a critical feminist framework, the analysis revealed that Deadly Women relies on two primary trajectories to explain the violence committed by women and girls. While both trajectories emphasized gendered stereotypes that involved emotionality and mental health issues, they were nonetheless distinct. The first trajectory evoked narratives of the ‘emotionless’ and ‘psychopathic’ perpetrator; while the second trajectory characterized the offender as overly ‘emotional’ and ‘depressed’. These trajectories, along with their related variables, problematically (re)presented violent women and girls in simplistic and dualistic manners that served to obscure rather than to clarify the circumstances surrounding their crimes.
