Optimering av prestanda och utnyttjande av flertrådsteknik / Optimization of performance and utilization of multithreadingGustafsson, Daniel, Öberg, Christoffer January 2009 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis was to help the company Medius AB with optimization of selected parts in an existing system to minimize the execution time by implementing multithreading. The idea was to manipulate the code so that calculations could be executed at the same time. The main work in this thesis consisted of three optimizations. The first one was to reconstruct a big “for-loop” so it would execute every loop's work in an own thread. The second optimization also was a reconstruct of a “for-loop” so it could execute the work in different threads. The third and last optimization consisted of reconstructing a stored procedure on the database, so different parts of it each could be executed in an own thread to create data at the same time. To implement the optimizations Visual Basic .NET and its support for multithreading and connection-pools was used. The result of the optimizations meant that one of the modules could be executed more efficiently and it was 12 % faster. The other modules execution time was more efficient by 25 % faster. The meanings and requirements for this thesis are fulfilled by now letting the system make use of its resources in a better way.

An Experimental Comparison of Middle School Students Motivation and Preference Toward Text and Graphic-Based ProgrammingWilliams, Stephen E. 01 December 2009 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to compare seventh-grade students' motivation and preference toward text-based programming using Visual Basic, and graphics-based programming using Robolab. Motivation was defined by the My Class Activities questionnaire using the dimensions of interest, challenge, choice, and enjoyment. Preference was determined through team and individual student choice. This study was conducted with 122 students from three 6-week technology education classes. This study examined two hypotheses. First, middles school students will be more motivated when using a graphics-based programming language than text-based as measured by the My Class Activities survey. The second hypothesis for this study was that middle school students preferred using graphic-based programming more than using text-based programming in an introductory experience. Student preference was identified individually and within a team environment.

Labyrinth Seal Preprocessor and Post-Processor Design and Parametric StudyMehta, Rumeet Pradeep 03 June 2008 (has links)
Vibrations caused due to aerodynamic excitation may cause severe limitation to the performance of turbomachines. The force resulting from the non-uniform pressure distribution within the labyrinth cavity is identified as a major source of this excitation. In order to perform rotor dynamic evaluation of rotor-bearing-seal system, accurate prediction of this force is essential.
A visual basic based front-end, for a labyrinth seal analysis program, has been designed herein. In order to accurately predict the excitation force, proper modeling of labyrinth leak path is important. Thus, the front-end developed herein incorporates a leak-path geometric diagram for visual analysis of labyrinth leak path and tooth location. Furthermore, to investigate influence of various operating conditions and gas properties on excitation force (effective cross-coupling stiffness), a parametric study is performed on both the eye seal and the balance piston labyrinth seal. / Master of Science

Desenvolvimento de ferramenta computacional suporte para cálculos hidrossedimentológicos e estatísticos / Development of computational tool support for hydrosedimentological and statistical calculationsSantos, Bruno Bernardo dos 11 March 2019 (has links)
Despite the complexity that involves the understanding of hydrosedimentological processes, the knowledge of the amount of sediment transported by rivers is fundamental for the planning and utilization of water resources. The amount of data obtained from the monitoring is significant, and the understanding of such variables requires statistical analyses. This paper addresses the development of a free and open-source computational tool in Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) that integrates methods of hydrosedimentological and statistical calculations and relates hydrosedimentology to statistics. Users can calculate solid suspended discharge and total solid discharge and perform important statistical tests, such as Kolmogorov- Smirnov normality test, Fisher-Snedecor and Student T parametric tests, and Wilcoxon non- parametric test. The computational tool (NH Sediment and Statistic) was applied to data obtained from measurements of hydraulic characteristics, suspended sediment concentration, turbidity and reservoir temperature of the Mogi-Guaçu Small Hydroelectric Power Plant. It supports hydrosedimentological analyses and yielded results equivalent to those of other software for each module developed. It also proved reliable and of easy application and provides a friendly interface. It can be applied to other areas of study for a complete planning and management of water resources, as well as other areas of knowledge.

Vibrationsmätningar : Uppföljning av negativa trender / Vibration measurements : Follow-up of negative trendsVikström, Lars January 2021 (has links)
In this study, data on vibration measurements from Forsmark - Vattenfall AB's database has been studied, the goal has been to see how it can be reworked so that it becomes easier to interpret and more transparent for more people in maintenance. The idea has been to use all the data available to create graphs or graphs over a longer period to look for trends in systems that are similar to each other. Which is because there is redundancy in the systems and blocks 1 & 2 are sibling blocks with identical components, so it is possible to compare them.Furthermore, it is intended to implement the results from this work in balanced scorecards that are already used at Forsmark at present. This is done to obtain data on how the maintenance is going and how many machines need to be maintained compared to previous periods. The work has consisted of retrieving data files from Forsmark's database and via an Excel script that reworks all data so that graphs can be created of the various measurements performed regularly by the Maintenance Group NMM 1-3 (Mechanical Maintenance) at Forsmark. The results of the work have been verified through the special software that NMM 1–3 uses but in which other groups have no experience. In this special software all graphs and data are already available, something that is not as easy, however, is the ability to compare different machines at the same time, something that this thesis work tries to create. As others in maintenance do not have experience in the specialized software, Excel is used instead, as it is a program all groups have access to and good knowledge in. What emerges from the work is that the amount of data is very large but the possibility to get to the goal is good, the data files need some reworking to be easily used for graph creation and some things are unfortunately not included in the data files but must be downloaded from the special software NMM 1- 3 have.
