Impact of Self-Monitoring on Independent Vocational Task Completion of Adults with Disabilities in a Vocational Training Setting

Palumbo, Chelsea 03 November 2017 (has links)
Employment is an important goal for many individuals with disabilities. Research indicates that behavioral techniques are effective in increasing task completion of individuals with disabilities in vocational training settings. Yet, limited research has examined the use of self-monitoring for increasing task completion of adults with disabilities receiving vocational training for future employment. Furthermore, few studies have focused on promoting the maintenance of improved vocational task completion among this population. Therefore, the primary purpose of this study was to extend the literature by examining the impact of self-monitoring on independent correct vocational task completion of four adults with disabilities within a vocational training setting. The results indicated that across participants the levels of their target vocational task completion performance remained low during baseline, even with repeated exposure. During the intervention there was immediate level changes for all participants, three out of four reaching 3 or more consecutive sessions with 100%. During the maintenance follow-up their performance levels still remained higher than baseline with minor decline trends compared to intervention. Implications, limitations, and recommendations for future research are discussed.

Leading collaborative professional enquiry : implications for teachers, chartered teachers and their managers

Fox, Alison January 2009 (has links)
This research explores the implications of the practice of collaborative professional enquiry on professional re-formation and development. A series of case studies focuses on four aspiring Chartered Teachers as they lead collaborative enquiries in two schools. The case studies take account of the experiences of the teachers in the collaborative groups, as well as the managers in both schools. Using a Foucauldian theoretical framework, relations of power between all participants are explored. This reveals that active positioning is in operation. The Chartered Teachers are positioned in an ‘in-between’ space: neither teacher nor manager, and this appears to have allowed them to construct and negotiate new possibilities, contributing to their developing professional identities. While this challenged the established hierarchies in schools, the teachers reported that undertaking collaborative professional enquiry under the leadership of the Chartered Teachers, benefitted themselves and their pupils, appearing to offer opportunities to demonstrate an active professionalism which was in contrast to the expectations of their managers. The findings raise several issues for consideration by the profession. These include a recommendation that collaborative professional enquiry is encouraged as a core pedagogical resource. The research also highlights the need for policy makers to take account of the way power is exercised in and on schools when developing new policies and evaluating the success of current ones. It is argued that genuine and open dialogue is necessary and it is recommended that the national CPD framework should reconsider the current practice of supporting distinctive pathways within the profession.

Place et fonction des SHS dans les Écoles d’ingénieurs en France : état des lieux, enjeux et perspectives épistémiques / Place and function of HSS in Engineering schools in France : current situation, stakes and epistemical perspectives

Roby, Catherine 01 December 2014 (has links)
The disparity between activity sectors for engineers is as great as that between their vocational training programs. But the latter are characterized by their sociohistorical basis that typically minimizes some consideration of khowledge acquired by HSS from their curriculum. Whereas the importance of the integration HSS in engineering education has been confirmed. That is why this present research aims at identifying the disciplines of HSS introduced into these trainings and the purposes which they pursue. It is a question of understanding in what and how the HSS participate in a reflexivity on the democratic stakes in the conditions of exercise of engineering practice or unlike the legitimization of a technocratic direction. The investigation first examined the display on the websites of the schools of HSS disciplines, their departments listed that include this subject in their teaching and research programs, and the texts describing their content. This investigation reveal an interdependence between these displays of HSS and cultural technoscientifics orientations of the engineering schools, partially determined by their supervision, date of creation, domain of speciality and level of recruitment. It shows howtheses orientations are linked with the institutionalization of the HSS in France. A categorization of schools was also elaborated, on the basis of the place and of the function which is occupied by the SHS in their curriculum. The dominant reference to the company in the program contrasts with HSS which are explicitly mobilized only in two categories of six, and are connected to the sciences and the techniques of engineering speciality only in one category. Studies of contrasted cases illustrate and go deeper into these first results. How difficult seams this coexistence, it is possible as shown by the analysis of a school among which the pioneering fouders boosted by their philosophic and political ambition, their personal values and shared convictions were also supprted by the national policies of research in HSS.

This research, characterized as a case study, has its major goal to analyze the implementation of technical courses (occupational safety and health technical course and food technical course) of the scholarship called Bolsa-formação of the Pronatec at Campus Vitoria de Santo Antão, IFPE. The Campus of IFPE, which served as the site of our research, is located in the forest zone of Pernambuco, an area characterized by a strong dependence of the agricultural economy, especially the cultivation of sugarcane, agro-industrial enterprises and the food industry that presents alarming social indicators. Our investigation had the dialectical materialism as the theoretical framework and we used document analysis, structured and semistructured interviews as research tools. The interviews were conducted with teachers, graduated students and managers of the courses under study, serving the structured interviews for a characterization of the participants and the semi-structured one, for the effective study on the implementation of the courses. We found that the initiatives of the Brazilian State relating to professional qualifications in the last twenty years keep important similarities with Pronatec, revealing how different programs that favor capital, inspired by the Theory of Human Capital, are thus dissociated from an effective concern with the increasing of workers‟ schooling and contrary to their integral formation. In the implementation of the Pronatec technical courses, we identified problems that are also repeated in other vocational training initiatives undertaken by the Brazilian government as: student selection problems, school dropout, precariousness in the courses, difficulty performing compulsory internship, and dichotomy between the reality and expectations of graduated students. Alongside this series of problems, we identified teachers satisfied with their work, hopeful graduated students with their professional future and a significant portion of young technicians who started undergraduate courses.

Longe de buscar uma resposta única para a questão, as memórias aqui narradas apontaram para a formação em contexto como possibilidade de repensar antigas práticas e reinventar a atuação do profissional que lida com uma faixa etária repleta de especificidades / Abstract: Early Childhood Education has been consolidated as a field of research both in regard to teaching practices, and in the process of vocational training for work in this area, which, from 1996, with the promulgation of the Lei de Diretrizes e Bases (9394 / 96), becomes the first stage of the national Basic Education. On this second topic (vocational training) was that this dissertation master's degree intended to contribute to the search field from the discussion of the theme. The text in question was based on the work with the stories of life, and he took advantage of the concept of memory as a category of analysis, thus linking history and memory in the construction of a "small" history of early childhood education. For this, as a backdrop, a creche founded in 1990, inside the Universidade Estadual of Campinas, whose protagonists were working women who entered the institution since the beginning of its operation, and keep on in the same place, acting today, regulated profession of teachers, graduated in higher education, very different from that experience they had 24 years ago, when they were still called "recreationists". The research, in addition to enabling a historical review of daycare institution in the country, noted largely for questioning in relation to vocational training. After all, the pedagogy course, nowadays considered higher education to work in this stage of education, prepares for action with children 0-3 years? Far from seeking a single answer to the question, memories recounted here pointed to the vocational training in context to rethink old practices and reinvent the acting of the professional who handles with a so specific age group / Mestrado / Educação, Conhecimento, Linguagem e Arte / Mestra em Educação

Departing from some considerations about the history of Psychology and its academic path, we approach themes as significative learning and tacit knowledge. Through the existential phenomenological perspective, we develop a research with Psychology undergraduate students, coming from two of the most important Universities of Pernambuco State in Brazil. Such investigation permitted, through a narrative mode, to comprehend the students experiences concerned to their modes of incorporating, appropriating and legitimating the métier knowledge of such profession. Finally, those comprehensions directed some reflexions about how Psychology achievements occur and what are the places for such legitimacy, besides to offer new proposes that may contribute for professional developments, either within or out the academic endeavors / Este Trabalho se propôs problematizar como a formação em Psicologia contempla espaços para o aluno de Psicologia perceber sua apropriação do saber de ofício, bem como sua legitimação. A formação do profissional de marketing : avaliação dos aspectos formativos do ensino superior / Marketing professional training: Evaluation of the training aspects of Higher Education

Camilla Nóbrega Cusatis Andrade 15 May 2015 (has links)
Vocational training often begins at university and is the source of the competence needed in order to get prepared for the work place, in which not only the technical aspects, but also the humanitarian and social basis are crucial to the formation of the future professional. Some environments, however, have not been explored by science and research in Brazil yet, limiting the role of Higher Education Institutions (HEI) to a technical one. This happens in the Marketing area due to a lack of knowledge and the incorrect dissemination of its concepts, and so brings obstacles to the university student formation. The fact that this area is not regulated and so suffers from misinterpretation and interferences of other areas, such as Business and Social Communication, just makes the situation worse. Because of that, the objective of this work was to understand the formative process of university marketing courses, facing the professional demands required from the market, and, after this analysis, suggest competence roles, skills and attitudes to help the profession formation. This research project had a qualitative and quantitative approach, and first, it went through bibliographical analysis in order to justify the reflections necessary on the subject. Secondly, the research went through document analysis in higher education institutions that offer Marketing courses. Finally, a field study, through interviews which obtained information from professionals in the area, was carried out, so that we could have a vision of the market necessities. As a result of this study, a clear perspective of gaps in the students professional formation and the competences required by the market were obtained. It is also possible to use the results from this work in other pedagogical projects.
