Från Agora till Twitter : En studie över yttrandefrihet i en digital värld

Westerlund, Maja January 2023 (has links)
This study aims to examine the impact of and the interconnection between Twitter and Free Speech, with a focus in Swedish policy and culture, as well as the differences regarding Jack Dorsey’s versus Elon Musk’s management of Twitter Inc. An analysis based in conceptual history examines the utilization of Freedom of Speech through the ages which is then complemented by a Critical discourse analysis of Twitter and the culture wars being waged in Sweden. The usage of Bourdieu’s Forms of Capital and his ideas about fast-thinking and invisible censorship is used to illuminate the ways of which Twitter is being used as well as theway Twitter is, in return, using its user base. This study shows that Twitter lacks traditional accountability usually afforded media companies who are in the business of publicizing information and public opinion. This lack of accountability has led to the misuse and abusive way which Free Speech is being utilized on Twitter, with evidence based in the Swedish culture wars

Personality and interpersonal aspects of the work environment

Swiden Wick, RoseAnn 01 May 2013 (has links)
Workplace arrogance has emerged as a research focus area for many industrial-organizational psychologists. Employees who demonstrate arrogance tend to demonstrate poor job performance, executive failure and poor overall organizational success. The present study investigates arrogance measured by the Workplace Arrogance Scale (WARS: Johnson et al., 2010) in relation to the Honesty Humility facet of the HEXACO Personality Index-Revised (HEXACO PI-R: LEE & Ashton, 2004). A total of 273 participants completed the WARS and HEXACO PI-R Honesty-Humility Facet of the HEXACO. Results show significant, strong negative correlations between the Honesty-Humility subfacets and the overall Honesty Humility facet score with the WARS scores. These findings indicate that workers high in arrogance lack important honesty-humility characteristics. Once we fully understand the complex mixture of personality traits that make up workplace arrogance, we can begin to screen for it in the hiring process and develop ways to better address it in the workplace.

Faith in a Galaxy Far, Far Away: Star Wars as Religion

Hunter, Darryl B, II 01 January 2017 (has links)
Within the past three decades, Star Wars has become nothing short of a household name. The millions of dollars gained from the films and various products, as well as the enjoyment and enthusiasm generated among fans, shows that Star Wars' value and significance in the realm of entertainment is substantial. In addition to this value, there are also many religious and mythological elements that are embedded within each of the movies. However, these elements do not carry the same prominence or interest that the plotline has with the audience. In an interview, Lucas stated that it was not his intent to use Star Wars to create a new religion or ideology. Nevertheless, the movie series has raised questions regarding its ability to attain such a devoted following. Consequently, the thesis will look into the dynamic between authorial intent and reader response. In addition, this thesis will investigate the religious themes and mythological elements of the Star Wars series and use this analysis to corroborate the position that Star Wars both resembles traditional religion and functions as religion for the fans. This thesis will analyze the religious elements and myths that are embedded in the general story, as well as those that are unique to the individual movies, by highlighting a family resemblance/functionalist approach to religion that focuses on not only the resemblances to traditional religion but also the religious effects that Star Wars has on its fans and society; namely, moral issues and the sense of meaning and belonging it inculcates among the fan base.
