Papírníková, Lucie January 2015 (has links)
The thesis deals with science education and integrating field trip in the undergraduate chemistry curriculum. The theoretical part summarizes available information about science education and integrating field trip in the classroom, theoretical information for creation of a questionnaire and a website. The practical part analyzes results of the survey. The main result is that half of the teachers know their neighbourhood with regard to realize field trip. However they find obstacles in realization, such as price, time- consumption, knowledge of locations, students' interest, demanding organization etc. A website was created using feedback from the questionnaire as described in the next part of thesis. It contains description of locations suitable for field trip in chemistry education. The website is designed to remove at least some of the obstacles.

Representation of India : an empirical study of Western tourist material

Nathani, Inayatali January 2016 (has links)
This thesis aims to describe how Western tourist websites represents India. Although there has been much research on tourism and Western representation of India, no literature is available on how Western tourist websites represents India. This thesis uses three theories, social constructivism, post-colonial theory, and representation theory. Social constructivism is the base for this thesis. Post-colonial theory is used to find out whether the representation of India includes colonial stereotypes or no. Moreover, the representation theory is the center and the main tool to know and explain how Western tourist websites represents India. The design used is a 'case study' as case study design is compatible to explore the representations of India. The method used is a 'qualitative discourse analysis' which helps to provide a critical analysis of the description of India. Main results of this thesis are that Western tourist websites describe Indian economy as a backward economy. It is unclear whether Indian politics is described as undemocratic or democratic. Indian people are described as a mix of traditional, modern, unfree as well as free people. Indian culture is described as ancient and collective.

A linguistic and cultural analysis of localisation practices on oil and gas company websites

Umoh, Idara Enobong January 2015 (has links)
Oil and Gas companies have the inevitable need to operate in a global environment and therefore have a global reach. This thesis seeks to understand the nature and degree of localisation of the websites in this industry. This thesis introduces two notions of ‘global’, and seeks to examine the relationship between them: the first of which is the Global reach or operations of companies and the second is where a company’s communication is localised in language and cultural terms. A company can be seen to be ‘global’ in one of these two notions and it is this relationship that this thesis seeks to explore. The contribution of this thesis firstly, is that it adds to previous studies of website localisation, which have focused primarily on consumer goods and the retail industry, by examining a different kind of industry. Secondly, it takes into account the important semiotic and symbolic dimensions of language and culture when looking at localisation practices. The thesis thus contributes to the growing literature on website localisation and practices in Multinational companies. This study was carried out on 387 corporate and country specific websites of 16 Oil and Gas Companies to understand the extent and nature of their localisation practises particularly the way that language and culture are presented. The websites were studied using a qualitative and quantitative research design which involved carrying out a linguistic/semiotic analysis and a cultural analysis to give a balanced perspective of localisation practices. The conclusions of the study were that the companies operated a ‘glocal’ strategy, a combination of both a localised and a globalised (standardised) strategy. The companies had a combination of globally standardised features such as the website layouts, images, colour schemes, logos and the use of global celebrities on their websites and a limited degree of localisation where the ‘local’ is signified by local country websites, local news stories, local languages, local celebrities, images of local sights, images of company’s local office buildings and local petrol stations.

Rytina, Jan January 2013 (has links)
This paper deals with theory of cultural differences, specifically cultural differences in web design. This paper aims at websites of investment promotional agencies (IPAs) and its target is to find out whether IPA's websites reflect national culture of representing country, so there is a kind of cultural divergence, or if cultural convergence prevails. The research is based on assumptions and theories of Dutch scientist Geert Hofstede and content analysis is used as a research method. The results imply cultural convergence among websites of IPAs and at the same time influence of Western countries is noticeable. Cultural differences, websites, design, investment promotional agencies, Geert Hofstede.

Podnikatelský plán / Business Plan

Duda, Lukáš January 2013 (has links)
The subject of this thesis is to develop a business plan for a newly rising company that will provide basic and at the same time essential needs for everyone, whether a new or existing entrepreneur or company (keeping of accounting, tax return processing and its optimization, graphic design and website creation). The thesis is divided into theoretical and practical part, whereas in the theoretical part I am mainly dealing with functions, principles and structure. Based on the structure and methodology outlined in the theoretical part I made a practical part, whose output is a business plan with a proposal delivery, whether the project in question is worth being carried out. A key part of developing the thesis was a thorough consultation with experts based on work experience. Their selection is described in the methodology and the questions asked are included in the annex.

För- och nackdelar med olika menymodeller på kommunala webbplatser. : Användartester och kartläggning av användbarheten på kommunsidor i Dalarnas län. / Advantages and disadvantages between different menu models on municipal sites. : User tests and mapping of usability on municipal sites in Dalarna County

Nyrén, Linn January 2020 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to find the pros and cons of different menu models and how they should look to function optimally on websites for municipalities in Dalarna County. The results were obtained using semistructured qualitative interviews and user tests. The participants in this study were selected using the convenience selection and consist of students from Dalarna University. The assay method used to analyze the data collected was a conventional assay method. In order to answer the first question about which menu model was most common among all Dalarna municipalities, a comparison of these 15 municipalities was conducted. It turned out that the most common menu model on municipal pages in Dalarna was horizontal and broad with underlined text when the mouse pointer moved over it, with linear typeface and without icons. The position on the websites is mainly centered. After that, user tests and semistructured interviews were conducted with test persons who found the pros and cons of selected menu models. The choice of menu model that should be used on a municipal website depends on how much information there was to sort out. The pros and cons found on the hamburger menu were that it saved space but was difficult to overlook and click right. The card grid menu had a clear breakdown but required many clicks to find where to go. The drop-down menu had a good overview but felt compact and some headlines had advantageously been clickable.

Heuristic evaluation of the information architecture of academic library websites

Silvis, Isabel Mariann January 2017 (has links)
The main goal of this study was to do a heuristic evaluation of the information architecture (IA) of the recently redesigned academic library website of the University of Pretoria and to provide recommendations for improvement if necessary. The main problem that is addressed by this study is that there is no comprehensive list of heuristics for the purpose of evaluating the IA of academic library websites. This study used various methods to address this problem and achieve the main goal. A literature review resulted in a set of integrated usability heuristics that can be used to do a heuristic evaluation of the IA of academic library websites. The set was created based on an integration of existing usability principles from authorities in the field of usability. The integrated set of existing principles was made applicable to academic library websites through the addition of sub-criteria based on a review of twenty related studies. A multiple-case study method was used for the heuristic evaluation of the library websites of the top three universities in South Africa, i.e., University of Cape Town, University of the Witwatersrand, and Stellenbosch University. The results of the multiple-case study method were used to further adapt the list of principles. The heuristic evaluation method was used in each of the case studies as a data collection method. Another case study was done, using the same method and revised heuristics, to evaluate the usability of the library website of the University of Pretoria and to provide recommendations. The main outcomes of this study is a list of heuristics that can be used for the heuristic evaluation of the IA of academic library websites, as well as a list of recommendations for the improvement of the newly redesigned library website of the University of Pretoria. The list of heuristics is not limited to academic library websites, however, as it can be adapted and reused for the heuristic evaluation of other types of websites. / Dissertation (MIS)--University of Pretoria, 2017. / Information Science / MIS / Unrestricted
