Hjälp för att bevara eller förändra? : Åldersrelaterade diskurser om omsorg, stöd och service / Help to maintain or to change? : Age related discourses on care, support and service

Erlandsson, Sara January 2014 (has links)
This thesis analyses the categorisation of adult persons who need help to cope in everyday life as either older persons or persons with a disability. Despite the development of social services in the Scandinavian countries being guided by the principles of universalism and equality, adults in need of care have different rights to support depending on their current age and at which age disability occurs. This thesis aims to explore how age-based differences in access to care, support and service are legitimised. In the thesis, the concept of help is used to refer to care, support and service. Using a discourse analytic approach, Swedish elderly and disability policies and websites through which providers of help market their services were examined. The analysis, inspired by the theoretical framework of governmentality, draws attention to how users of help and helpers are constituted in two age-related discourses on help. The first discourse, help to maintain, is used mainly in relation to older persons. In this discourse older persons are constituted as subjects in need of safety, comfort and company while the helpers are represented as caring and knowing. The second discourse, help to change, constitutes younger persons with a disability as citizens in becoming. Help aims to improve the situation for younger help users in varying ways: the opportunity to fully determine the tasks performed by helpers is essential to users of personal assistance whereas personal development as regards both practical and social skills is the key to change for persons with an intellectual or mental disability. While help for younger persons is represented as a means to enhance the individual’s self-determination and ability to participate in society, help for older persons is represented as aiming to maintain past patterns of life, not aspiring towards change or improvement. It is argued that these representations support a lower ambition for eldercare than for disability services.

Χρονοπούλου, Μαρία 08 July 2011 (has links)
The Internet, commonly known with the English name Internet, belongs to the media. As an instrument has a dual personality: the material (which consists of a combination of network-based software and hardware) and intangible (that is, to "do" / offers society the Internet as a medium). The purpose of this study is to present the criteria which can be evaluated by the quality of a website with content Radiology and General Medicine and design a standard website. The research material consisted of seven (7) sites that are relevant to content Radiology and General Medicine. Selected based on their trafficing. Evaluated on the basis of firstly quality criteria for a site related to medical content, secondly the technical criteria and thirdly, the quality criteria of the website of the Health on Net Fountation (HON). Also evaluated based on their traffic worldwide - and at home. Occurred while the popularity of the number of sites who have them as a link. Moreover surveyed upstream link of the monitored sites with some of the world's search engines. Also evaluated the official site of the Greek Society of General Medicine (ELEGEIA) for X-ray texture data on this question has been, and international sites, as was the presence of chest radiography in a respiratory infection. Only three (out of 18 met the 19 criteria) from 7 sites did not meet in full the 19 quality criteria. And 7 sites met the technical criteria and criteria of HON. Base traffic and popularity, first found the site of the British Medical Journal in second the American Academy of Family Physicians. The site's ELEGEIA provided no information radiological nature. There is a very positive implementation of the technical evaluation criteria and quality criteria and the HON’s criteria. Great is the traffic and the popularity of the evaluated sites. Simple and utilitarian functionality with immediate display of data - responses. The only negative that occurred in most sites (six out of seven) was present abstinence as the image information. Proposals to create a standard site in the site of ELEGEIA (having provided no information) is a collaboration with radiologists (Greek Society of Radiology) for writing topics of common interest. Presentation of all radiological examinations every possible pathological - surgical issue. Also reference to the proper use of contrast substances, the right prescription, the proper preparation (if needed and when) the patient to possible problems with the use of contrast substances (eg allergy), the potential side effects to the patient and the environment etc. The announcement of new imaging technologies and methods. Create e-learning (continuing medical education) for junior and qualified general practitioners. Also creation a link with information theory and images, date of last update, creation of a search engine, free log in, counting visitors to link daily and annual. Such a link would improve the daily lives of General practice / Family Physicians.

The ITC in the territorie : the case intercommunal websites

Akrab, Hakim 18 June 2012 (has links)
This PhD thesis analizes communication practices of intercommunal structures. Our aim is to identify the stakes of the use of ITC for intercommunal structures. The emergence of intercommunal communication shows the consolidation of intercommunal authority at local scale. The intercommunal consortia intend to build social interactions with individuals. They aim for the recognition of their public authority and win support in the accomplishment of their « territorial project». At local scale, the ICT are associated to the purpose of territorial building in a competitive context. By the use of ITC, intercommunal structures invest the public sphere offering a symbolisation of their action. The analyse of communication pratices allows us to study ITC in a double dimension : as technicals objects pointing out their specifications and as communication support focusing on their messages. We pointed out that intercommunal officials elected associated these techniques to a determinist vision, using the expressions « digital territories » or « cyberterritories ». In link with this vision, we can note the structuring communication on the website. In a few years, the amount of communication tools has reduced in favour of websites. The management of website reveals a rationalization and specialization in the production of communicative contents. Therefore our research will focus on editorialisation of contents in so far as it contributes to introduce a new management of information in these structures.

Une approche semiodiscursive / The representations of the Publics in the websites of the theaters in France and Chile. A Semiotic and Discourse analytic approach

Pérez Lagos, Camila 15 December 2016 (has links)
The subject of this thesis concerns how the audience of theatre is represented within the discourse of cultural policies in France and Chile. This is related to the audience of internet websites (including social networks) of four public theatres of reference who report to have both a « contemporary » and « classical » program. The main question is to identify how these representations are transmitted amongst these devices. The principal hypothesis underlines the fact that there is link a between the social and symbolic conditions of the discourses of cultural policies which appear in « les écrits d’écran » (Bonaccorsi, 2013) through linguistic, visual and digital signs. The theoretical and methodological approach is primarily semiotic-discursive with regard to new categories emerging from Internet-based corpus (Rouquette, 2009).This research led to the conclusion that the cultural policies of these two countries have a discourse on access to culture for « everybody »; « everybody » being, on one hand, a « more citizenly audience » and, on the other hand, a « more consumer audience ». Moreover, the internet websites in this study update their scenography differently (through linguistic, visual and digital signs), even if they share a generic and global scene (Maingueneau, 2013), all of which is dependent on the ethos (Charaudeau, 2009) of each theatre. However, the « national audience » and the « potential buyer » appear as traces of the discourses of cultural policies among websites and social networks where, we can additionally observe a profane speech (Pasquier, 2009), namely, from the audience.

“Seeing through consumers’ eyes”: exploring online restaurant selection behaviors using eye-tracking technology

Li, Xiaoye January 1900 (has links)
Doctor of Philosophy / Department of Hospitality Management / Junehee Kwon / With the advancement of the Internet and information technology, consumers have access to a massive amount of information before purchase. In the hospitality industry, consumers frequently search online information to make decisions. However, there has been limited hospitality research exploring the actual information search behaviors in the online setting. The purpose of this research was to assess the actual information search behaviors of consumers when choosing restaurants through consumer review websites. To accomplish the purpose, three mixed-methods were used including eye-tracking experiments (Phase I), qualitative, retrospective think-aloud (RTA) interviews (Phase II), and a scenario-based survey (Phase III). In the eye-tracking experiments, 30 participants were recruited and instructed to conduct restaurant search tasks. Variables included fixation duration, fixation count, and visit count, indicating how long and how often consumers’ attention had been attracted to certain information areas. The eye-tracking data was also visualized through heat maps and gaze plots. Following eye-tracking experiments, RTA interviews were conducted to investigate the underlying thinking process of consumers. A playback of the recorded eye-tracking video was presented to each participant while participants verbalized their thinking process and reasoning of information search behaviors. The interviews were recorded, transcribed, and analyzed through grounded-theory model to identify important information elements. To overcome the limited generalizability of the eye-tracking experiments and interviews, a scenario-based survey was created, and seven hypotheses were developed to evaluate impacts of online reviews, images, and advertisements on consumers’ interests and restaurant visit intentions based on the results of Phases I and II. Restaurant selection scenarios were provided to the participants to look through screenshots of webpages in order to mimic the online environment. The online survey company Amazon MTurk was used for data collection. A total of 406 usable survey responses were collected and analyzed using descriptive statistics, one-sample Chi-square tests, and visualized heat maps. Eye-tracking experiment results revealed that images, consumer reviews, and filter functions were the top information areas to which consumers paid considerable attention. Advertisements in Yelp also received much attention from participants, but during RTA interviews, advertisements were found to be less impactful for consumers’ decision-making than the number of reviews, images with food items, and consumer reviews. Five out of seven hypotheses in Phase III were supported, indicating that it was mostly consistent with findings of the eye-tracking experiments and interviews (Phase I and II). Specifically, consumers’ interests and intentions to visit restaurants were greater for restaurants with a higher number of reviews, food images, and without advertisements. Consumers also were more interested in extremely rated reviews and preferred evenly-distributed image groups. This study contributes to the existing hospitality literature related to consumer behavior with the utilization of the innovative, combined methods of eye-tracking technology, RTA interviews, and scenario-based survey. This approach allowed the researcher to obtain a holistic view of actual consumer behavior, thinking process accompanying the behavior as well as the verification with large sample. Consumer review websites and restaurateurs were provided with specific recommendations to enhance the online user experience and improve customer satisfaction, respectively.

Meus favoritos: crianças, sites e metodologias de pesquisa / My favorite: children, websites and research methodologies

Joana Loureiro Freire 20 March 2012 (has links)
This dissertation presents research on the relationship between children and the Internet, specifically their relationship with websites. It interviewed children living in a Vila Residencial (Residential Village) about their day-to-day lives in order to investigate how they used the websites they access. Researching private spaces where questions of friendship, authority and research methodology played a central role provided challenges that were present throughout the process; from field work to writing the results. An additional issue which goes beyond methodological discussions involved how to manage the roles of researcher and playmate when conducting research through games and play. The reflections on how to create an appropriate research methodology in private spaces received contributions from authors such as Nilda Alves, Mikhail Baktin, Marília Amorin, Angela Borba, Fabiana Marcello, and others. The questions about the childrens daily life were built mainly from the debate with Michel de Certeau. More specific reflections on the Internet emerged from the work in the field and with the children, and were assisted by André Lemos, Edméa Santos, Lucia Santaella, Marco Silva and others.
