Ricci Curvature of Finsler Metrics by Warped Product

Marcal, Patricia 05 1900 (has links)
Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) / In the present work, we consider a class of Finsler metrics using the warped product notion introduced by B. Chen, Z. Shen and L. Zhao (2018), with another “warping”, one that is consistent with the form of metrics modeling static spacetimes and simplified by spherical symmetry over spatial coordinates, which emerged from the Schwarzschild metric in isotropic coordinates. We will give the PDE characterization for the proposed metrics to be Ricci-flat and construct explicit examples. Whenever possible, we describe both positive-definite solutions and solutions with Lorentz signature. For the latter, the 4-dimensional metrics may also be studied as Finsler spacetimes.

The purpose of this thesis is to obtain characterization theorems of complete spacelike hypersurfaces isometrically immersed in a semi-Riemannian ambient space under some restrictions on the Gauss mapping or about the r-mean curvatures of these objects. We start our work by providing necessary conditions to ensure the umbilicity of immersed hypersurfaces in the hyperbolic space Hn+1 with prescribed Gauss mapping. Next, we obtain some uniqueness results of complete hypersurfaces with bounded higher order mean curvatures in a space ER x et Mn where we suppose an appropriate condition on the normal angle of the hypersurface. In the last part of this work, we obtain Bernstein-type results concerning to complete vertical graphs with constant mean curvature immersed in a Riemannian warped product I x f Mn, where we suppose a well know convergence condition on the sectional curvature of the fibre Mn.

We considered the case in that the base is conformal to an n-dimensional pseudo- Euclidean space and invariant under the action of an (n 􀀀 1)-dimensional translation group. We constructed new examples of Einstein warped products with zero Ricci curvature when the fiber is Ricci-flat. In particular, we obtain explicit solutions, in the case vacuum, for Einstein field equation. Furthermore, we consider M = B f F warped product gradient Ricci solitons. We proved that the potential function depends only on the base and the fiber F is necessarily Einstein manifold. We provide all such solutions in the case of steady gradient Ricci solitons when the base is conformal to an n-dimensional pseudo-Euclidean space, invariant under the action of an (n􀀀1)-dimensional translation group, and the fiber F is Ricci-flat.

As a result, we prove the following: if M is an Einstein warped product space with nonpositive scalar curvature and compact base, then M is a Riemannian product space. Besides, we show that the Riemannian product Rp×F is a gradient Ricci soliton if and only if F is Ricci soliton gradient. Then, we show that the warped product R×f B is gradient Ricci solitons with f ′′ 6= 0, therefore F is Einstein. By using these results, we build nontrivial examples of gradient Ricci soliton where the fiber is either an Einstein manifold or a nontrivial gradient Ricci soliton.

Orthogonal Separation of The Hamilton-Jacobi Equation on Spaces of Constant Curvature

Rajaratnam, Krishan 21 April 2014 (has links)
What is in common between the Kepler problem, a Hydrogen atom and a rotating black- hole? These systems are described by different physical theories, but much information about them can be obtained by separating an appropriate Hamilton-Jacobi equation. The separation of variables of the Hamilton-Jacobi equation is an old but still powerful tool for obtaining exact solutions. The goal of this thesis is to present the theory and application of a certain type of conformal Killing tensor (hereafter called concircular tensor) to the separation of variables problem. The application is to spaces of constant curvature, with special attention to spaces with Euclidean and Lorentzian signatures. The theory includes the general applicability of concircular tensors to the separation of variables problem and the application of warped products to studying Killing tensors in general and separable coordinates in particular. Our first main result shows how to use these tensors to construct a special class of separable coordinates (hereafter called Kalnins-Eisenhart-Miller (KEM) coordinates) on a given space. Conversely, the second result generalizes the Kalnins-Miller classification to show that any orthogonal separable coordinates in a space of constant curvature are KEM coordinates. A closely related recursive algorithm is defined which allows one to intrinsically (coordinate independently) search for KEM coordinates which separate a given (natural) Hamilton-Jacobi equation. This algorithm is exhaustive in spaces of constant curvature. Finally, sufficient details are worked out, so that one can apply these procedures in spaces of constant curvature using only (linear) algebraic operations. As an example, we apply the theory to study the separability of the Calogero-Moser system.
