Qualidade de vida no trabalho: relações com literacia financeira, bem-estar financeiro e desempenho no trabalho / Quality of work life: relations with financial literacy, financial wellbeing and job performance

Elton Parente de Oliveira 10 December 2018 (has links)
The present study aims to analyze in the context of a Brazilian public organization the relations between quality of work life, financial wellbeing, financial literacy and job performance. In the theoretical field, was demonstrated the research and principles about human wellbeing that in several studies is associated with happiness, composed by the satisfaction with life and by the balance of negative and positive affects, since it is constituted of aspects involved by the other constructs in this research. After demonstrating literature that support each construct of the relationships analyzed in previous studies of each element, the general model of research design was defined, adopting financial literacy and financial wellbeing as antecedents of quality of work life, and quality of work life and financial wellbeing as antecedents of job performance. For the sample, the descriptive statistics were presented, the analysis of consistency of the scales was considered and confirmed appropriate, after the relationships were tested through structural equation modeling (SEM), through the tests of adjustments with parameters considered good and valid for the inferences of analysis. From the four hypotheses tested in the relations, the results presented demonstrate that: the first hypothesis was supported, demonstrating that it is possible to infer that the Personal State of Quality of Work Life positively influences the Job Performance, with coefficient of 0,298; the hypothesis two was supported, it can be inferred Financial Wellbeing presents a significant and positive precedent relation for Quality of Work Life, with a coefficient of 0.651; the hypothesis three was not supported in the structural equations model, then the Spearman Correlation test was performed, given the not normal distribution, allowing to infer that Financial Literacy is significantly correlated with Personal State of Quality of Work Life with a coefficient of 0.228; and hypothesis four supported, inferring that the increase in Financial Wellbeing influences significantly and positively the increase in Job Performance with a coefficient of 0.628. It is understood that the present study enriches the relations studied regarding quality of life at work by bringing the constructs of financial literacy and financial wellbeing to the debate of organizational behavior and people management in Brazil, and its influence for the management strategic human resources observed reflections on job performance.

Women and Emiratisation in the UAE workforce

Hamade, Mona January 2016 (has links)
The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) which was adopted in 1979, and the 1995 Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action have generated global and regional momentum in the advance of equal gender opportunities. This research explores the increased presence of women in higher education and their subsequent entry into the workforce in the United Arab Emirates. The government has attempted to reduce its citizens' dependency on public sector employment and promote opportunities in the private sector. Governmental efforts have included improving the education system, granting women access to education and introducing funding schemes to encourage employment initiatives. Yet, despite these efforts, unemployment across the UAE remains at a high level, with public sector favoured by Emirati nationals. The country's drive to nationalise the labour force reflects the necessity of utilising the capabilities of Emirati nationals, both men and women, to diversify the rentier state economy. Emiratisation is a national government strategy in the United Arab Emirates that aims to reduce the country's reliance on expatriate labour and increase the participation of nationals in the labour market, both in the public and private sectors. The research for this thesis begins by exploring the inadequacy of classical rentier state theory and examining Mathew Gray's theory of late rentierism within the context of the United Arab Emirates. It further builds on the late rentierism model with a particular focus on the role of women, education and youth participation. The methodological approach used in this research is primarily qualitative, including interviews with final year university students, and professionals in the banking sector of both sexes. These groups were chosen to highlight the practical implications of governmental Emiratisation policies aiming to increase job opportunities across the United Arab Emirates. To date, very little research has been conducted on the issues of gender, work life balance policies and new workforce trends in the UAE.

Vany Fatima Grizante 13 October 2010 (has links)
Working with consultive architecture focused on improving industrial working conditions has led to the need of theoretical basis for some empirical concepts found on daily professional work. The difficulty on clearly defining who is the architects client in such a complex organization as an industry, as well as the countless points involved in a working environment evaluation - due to the inherent conditions of industrial work and its diversity have shown up as an extremely rich research field, with many possibilities of approach. A simple research with no academic purposes has shown the scarce specialized bibliography, evidencing the low prominence of industrial architecture in general and, above all, of industrial work environment. So, it has raised the opportunity to develop a formal research which aims to give basis to a future post-occupation evaluation (POE) structure, in order to inquire final users - wich means the factory-floor workers - their satisfaction concerning to their own work environment.

Produção de sentido na prática profissional de auxiliares e técnicos de enfermagem / The meaning of work in professional practice of nursing assistants

Oliveira, Walter Lisboa 15 December 2015 (has links)
The objective of the research was comprehending how they give meaning to their work and life. Seeing that experiences of emotional suffering and psychosocial disorders may interfere in the meaning of work, this research has also looked into the quality of work life and the existence of burnout syndrome. Quantitative and qualitative methods were used. The research instruments applied were Maslach Burnout Inventory- Human Services Survey (MBI-HSS), the BPSO-96 scale and a guide of semi structured interviews. The research was carried out at the University Hospital in São Paulo, the scales were applied to 166 health professionals, among assistants and other health professionals. 20 participants were interviewed. The scales were statically analyzed on the whole and segmented samples in two groups, one with nursing assistants and other one with other professionals, so both results were compared. The interviews were categorized and analyzed. The results have shown a high level of depersonalization, a medium level of exhaustion, a low level of personal fulfillment and a medium level of satisfaction with the quality of work life, there has not been a representative statistical difference between the two groups. The hospital was going through a political crisis during the data collection which may have interfered in the results, once the semi structured interviews have revealed insecurity, mourning over the loss of the idealized hospital and feeling of uncertainty towards their professional future. With regard to the meaning of work, the professionals understand that their practice is indispensable for medical treatments. They see themselves as a necessary link between patients and multidisciplinary teams. They also mention social recognition for the work in the health area and satisfaction when taking care of patients, seeing their recovery and gratitude as an important source of meaning in the professional practice

Strategies Functional Managers Use to Control Cyberloafing Behaviors

Holguin, Emilsen Salazar 01 January 2016 (has links)
Computer technologies have increased the opportunities for employees to engage in cyberloafing by using the Internet at work for personal purposes. Uncontrolled cyberloafing is a threat to organizational effectiveness because it affects organizational productivity. The purpose of this single case study was to explore successful strategies functional managers use to control cyberloafing behaviors of their employees at an e-learning organization located in the northeastern United States. The theory of planned behavior, which emphasized behavioral, normative, and control beliefs as key elements to predict individuals' intentions to behave was the conceptual framework. Data collection included semistructured face-to-face interviews with 11 functional managers and an exploration of organizational policies, procedures, and handbooks. Data analysis included examination of word frequencies, keyword coding, and theme identification. Using Yin's 5 steps for data analysis, 3 themes emerged: create engaging jobs, communicate clear expectations, and promote a positive work environment. Functional managers in the e-learning organization in this study may control cyberloafing by ensuring that social norms convey disapproval, combining deterrence policies and performance metrics; and showing attitudes that promote citizenship behaviors. The implications for positive social change include the potential to provide the e-learning organization in this study with best practices that support employees' needs for work-life balance, thus promoting employee satisfaction while maximizing employee productivity. As a result, the findings of this study can decrease stress, increase morale and positively impact the overall well-being of the organization's workforce.

THE INFLUENCE OF TRANSFORMATIONAL MIDDLE LEADERS ON WORK-LIFE BALANCE

Tanner, Timothy D. 01 January 2018 (has links)
Work-life balance is a key indicator of employee satisfaction, retention, and social health as well as organizational creativity and productivity. These dual benefits for employee and employer have generated interest in promoting work-life balance. Supervisors who operate from a transformational leadership framework have been linked to greater work-life balance among employees (Lamm, 2011; (Kutilek, Conklin, & Gunderson, 2002). The role of a supportive organizational culture is also central (Lewis, 2001). In this study, Cooperative Extension Service agents (N = 1390) participated in a nationwide survey exploring the relationship between rated levels of transformational leadership among district directors, work-life balance, and work-life balance organizational culture. The results from confirmatory factor analyses indicate these three separate dimensions. The findings from the structural equation model demonstrate that all paths, except transformational leadership to personal life interference with work, are statistically significant. Work-life balance organizational culture is the largest contributor to the total effect of these associations. This study confirms that the supervisor and organizational culture join together to forge an important alliance of support for work-life balance among subordinates. Findings reveal the need for additional study of specific ways leaders foster positive work-life balance organizational culture.

The Role of Work-Life Balance Programs in Job Satisfaction

Cookson, Charles 01 January 2016 (has links)
Organizations spend significant amounts of money to address low job satisfaction. As much as 16.5% of an organization's pretax income is lost due to employee withdrawal behaviors, with 27% of that amount associated with turnover. Building on the quality of working life theory, this single-site case study took place at a for-profit university located in the Midwest United States to understand the role that work-life balance programs play in employee job satisfaction. The population consisted of 6 front-line admissions managers, as that population was appropriate for understanding the work-life balance strategies college officials use to improve the job satisfaction of admissions representatives. The data collection process consisted of semistructured interviews, a review of observational field notes, and a review of employee surveys. Based on methodological triangulation of the data sources and analysis of the data, 3 emergent themes were identified. Participants indicated that both autonomy and flexibility contributed to employee job satisfaction, which the quality of working life theory and existing research on the subject supports. Participants also indicated that the manager-employee relationship was fundamental to improving job satisfaction, which was a finding outside of the scope of the conceptual framework used in the study. Social change implications include improving policy makers and business leaders' understanding of the role that work-life balance plays in job satisfaction. Employees will also find the results of this study informative when attempting to understand how work-life balance programs may contribute to the level of satisfaction they experience with their jobs.

Strategies to Reduce Information Technology Employee Absenteeism in the Manufacturing Industry

Henry, Camilla 01 January 2018 (has links)
Employee absenteeism costs organizations billions of dollars annually in losses in revenue and productivity, temporary labor costs, and low morale. The purpose of this qualitative single case study was to explore the strategies information technology (IT) managers in the manufacturing industry used to reduce employee absenteeism. The theory of planned behavior provided the conceptual framework for the study. Data collection included semistructured interviews with 5 IT managers in Maryland and a review of organizational documents addressing nutritional education information, employee participation rates in health programs, and physical activity. Data were analyzed using compilation, disassembly, reassembly, interpretation, and development of conclusions. Through thematic analysis, 4 themes emerged: workplace wellness and health programs, employee engagement, work-life balance programs, and organizational culture. Findings of this study may be used by IT managers to bring about positive change by reducing employee absences, encouraging employment opportunities, contributing to organizational sustainability, and improving quality of life for community members.

The relationship between work and non-work support and work-life balance in Taiwan

Chang, Ruby Yi-Ju January 2009 (has links)
The aim of this study is to explore the relationship between employees' supportive resource (workplace support and non-work support) and their work-life balance in Taiwan. The roles of work-life balance's four components (work-to-life conflict, life-to-work conflict, work-to-life facilitation, and life-to-work facilitation) in the relationship between support and employee outcomes (psychological wellbeing, turnover intention, affective- and continuance organizational commitment) were examined. Eight-hundred surveys were distributed to for-profit and non-profit sectors. After eliminating the invalid questionnaires, 658 valid questionnaires were used for further analysis. The findings of this study suggested that three kinds of support (organizational support, supervisor support, and non-work support) were positively related to employees' work-life balance. However, no significant relationship was found between the availability and usage of the work-life balance policies and employees' work-life balance. More importantly, it was found that work-life balance and four components mediate the relationship between supervisor support and all employee outcomes. The relationship between employees' awareness of the policies that organization offered and favourable employee outcomes is also mediated by work-life balance. Interestingly, the availability and usage of the policies were not found to be related to either employees' better work-life balance or favourable employee outcomes. It is thus recommended that emphasizing supervisor support might be a better option than introducing various work-life balance policies for employees to achieve a better work-life balance. Otherwise, the work-life balance policies offered have to meet employees' needs.
