How social workers assess sexual addiction among adolescents

Knauth, Nicolina, Mazanova, Maria January 2014 (has links)
This research seeks to unravel the definition of sexual addiction amongst adolescents from the perspectives of professional social workers, working with these types of issues. This has been conducted through a qualitative study based on semi-structured interviews with social workers in various youth clinics in Stockholm. The results gathered from the interviews are presented and then analyzed through discourse analysis using the social constructionism as our theoretical framework. The primary results gathered, conclude that sexual addiction amongst adolescents is to be defined within the personal contact between the client and the social worker in order to build an individual case discourse. The results also depicts that shame and anxiety are the driving forces for the phenomenon. Furthermore, inconsistency was discovered regarding the terminology of the phenomenon amongst the social workers. It is important to note that the adolescent years are time of rapid change and, thus, the behavior resembling sexual addiction may not be permanent. The results are then discussed and compared to previous research.

På ungdomars uppdrag : En kvalitativ studie om kuratorers tankar om och erfarenheter av möten med ungdomar / On behalf of adolescents : A qualitative study of counselor’s thoughts and experiences of encounters with adolescences

Almberg, Tilde, Gustafsson, Frida January 2014 (has links)
The aim of this study was to investigate how counselors who work at youth clinics relate to the question of the integrity of adolescents who are under 18 years old in relation to the parents rights to information. The study was based on semi-structured interviews with eight counselors from youth clinics in the StockholmCounty. We have analyzed our empirical material by categorizing the statements from the counselors and by using two different theories. The first one is a consequential ethics theory and the second one is a cognitive theory. These two theories have helped us to understand the thoughts and actions of the counselors. The results show that the counselors try to protect the integrity of the adolescents and that they only consider breaking that trust if they are concerned about the young persons physical or mental health. Often it is only in these situations, when the counselor might have to report to the social services, that the parents are given right to receive information. This indicates that the counselors have a strong belief in letting the adolescents keep their integrity and this ethical dilemma is only present in situations where the counselor is concerned for the adolescent.

To fulfill someone else’s desire by running over one’s own” : A qualitative interview study on adolescents and young adults' sexual problems and the negative impact of social norms.

Langaard, Hanna, Gustavsson, Julia January 2021 (has links)
Adolescents and young adults are in a constant search for themselves, with a desire to fit in and a longing for unconditional love. The eternal belief in beeing immortal and ignoring consequences make young people vulnerable and exposed to various types of risk behaviors. In society today, a multitude of different norms abound affecting youth. For adolescents and young adults who have not yet acquired the right tools or knowledge, the environment becomes all the more difficult to interpret. The purpose of this qualitative interview study was to investigatewhich typical sexual problems are most prominent among teenagers and young adults today, and to investigate whether these problems may be a consequence of negative social impact. With a social psychological approach, this is studied through theories of social influence, social norms, conformity and sexual scripts. Ten semi-structured interviews with midwives and councilors at youth clinics as well as school nurses at junior high schools and high schools were conducted. The results show that destructive sexual norms lead to both mental and physical sexual problems and can be a consequence of both a lack of sex education, an insufficiently present adult world, social media and pornography.

Bidragande faktorer till valet av LARC vid strukturerad preventivmedelsrådgivning på ungdomsmottagning : Klusterrandomiserad kontrollerad interventionsstudie i Stockholms län / Contributing factors to the choice of LARC under the influence of structured contraceptive counseling at youth clinics in Sweden

Thored, Emelie, Wikström, Freja January 2021 (has links)
Metod: Kvantitativ ansats. / Background: Women’s need for modern family planning is not met. Socioeconomic benefits can be obtained if less-safe methods are replaced by long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARC). There is a need for improvement within the work to enable women to choose effective contraceptives by a well-informed decision. Aim: To investigate if reproductive history and socioeconomic factors have an impact on the choice of LARC under the influence of customary and structured contraceptive counselling, among adolescents and young adults (18-24) at youth clinics in Stockholm, Sweden. Method: Quantitative method. Cluster randomized controlled intervention study, and a substudy of LOWE. Result: Planned use of LARC before the visit (OR 45.78, 95% CI 23,54–89,02) and structured contraceptive counselling (intervention) (OR 3,67, 95% CI 2,24–5,97) was the variables that influenced the choice of LARC. Conclusion: A likely reason why sociodemographic factors and reproductive history did not influence the choice of LARC, could be that contraceptive use is a part of a more complex context. The information provided in contraceptive counselling has an influence on the majority of all patients, but current societal norms control the choice of contraception, as well as paradigm shifts within SRHR. External validity: The result was of clinical significance for staff at youth clinics and can be clinically applied for in-depth knowledge of influencing factors for the choice of LARC.
