Konkursprognostisering : En tillämpning av tre internationella modeller

Malm, Hanna, Rodriguez, Edith January 2015 (has links)
Background: Each year many companies go bankrupt and it is associated with significant costs in the short term. Creditors, owners, investors, management, employees and society are those that gets most affected by the bankruptcy. To be able to estimate a company’s financial health it is important to be able to predict the risk of a bankruptcy. To help, we have different bankruptcy prediction models that have been developed through time, since the 1960s until today, year 2015. Purpose: To examine three international bankruptcy prediction models to see if they are  applicable to Swedish business and also compare the accuracy from our study with each bankruptcy prediction models original study. Method: The study was based on a quantitative research strategy and also a deductive research approach. The selection was based on companies that went bankrupt in year 2014. Added to this is a control group consisting of healthy companies that will also be examined. Finally, the random sample consisted of 30 bankrupt companies and 30 healthy companies that belong to the manufacturing and industrial sectors. Theory: In this study three bankruptcy prediction models are examined; Altman, Fulmer and Springate. These models and also previous research in bankruptcy prediction are further described in the theory section. In addition some financial ratios that are relevant in bankruptcy prediction are also described. Result and conclusion: The models are not applicable in the Swedish companies.  The results of this study have not showed sufficient accuracy and they can therefore be regarded as unreliable.

以重複事件分析法分析信用評等 / Recurrent Event Analysis of Credit Rating

陳奕如, Chen, Yi Ru Unknown Date (has links)
This thesis surveys the method of extending Cox proportional hazard models (1972) and the general class of semiparametric model (2004) in the upgrades or downgrades of credit ratings by S&P. The two kinds of models can be used to modify the relationship of covariates to a recurrent event data of upgrades or downgrades. The benchmark credit-scoring model with a quintet of financial ratios which is inspired by the Z-Score model is employed. These financial ratios include measures of short-term liquidity, leverage, sales efficiency, historical profitability and productivity. The evidences of empirical results show that the financial ratios of historical profitability, leverage, and sales efficiency are significant factors on the rating transitions of upgrades. For the downgrades data setting, the financial ratios of short-term liquidity, productivity, and leverage are significant factors in the extending Cox models, whereas only the historical profitability is significant in the general class of semiparametric model. The empirical analysis of S&P credit ratings provide evidence supporting that the transitions of credit ratings are related to some determined financial ratios under these new econometrics methods.

Impact of a Lifestyle Modification Intervention on Health Behaviors and Health Outcomes in a Mexican American population: A Mixed-methods Study

Kaur, Ramandeep 28 June 2018 (has links)
Metabolic syndrome (MetS), a global public health problem, is the primary cause of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disorders. Lifestyle modification interventions (dietary and physical activity modifications) are effective in preventing and ameliorating MetS and associated comorbidities. However, the impact of lifestyle changes on MetS among Mexican Americans has yet to be investigated, particularly due to high attrition rates in this population. The overall goal of the explanatory mixed-methods study presented in this dissertation was to identify efficacious lifestyle modification efforts directed towards Mexican Americans to promote their retention in lifestyle modification programs, ameliorate the severity of MetS, and understand underlying behavior modification process. In particular, we examined secondary data from an extensive study Beyond Sabor to 1) examine predictors of program completion, 2) compare variation in MetS severity scores (z-scores) between intervention (Beyond Sabor) and attention control (Healthy Living) groups, over time and, 3) investigate processual development of self-efficacy in a sample of 1153 disadvantaged Mexican Americans participants. Findings suggest that program completers were more likely to be older, had more years of education, lower fasting blood glucose levels, and participated in sites with high group cohesiveness. Results also revealed that when compared with the standard nutrition program, Healthy Living, the lifestyle modification intervention, Beyond Sabor, was more effective in ameliorating MetS severity, systolic blood pressure, triglyceride, and fasting plasma glucose levels among study participants. Qualitative results demonstrate the high acceptability of Beyond Sabor intervention. Four sub-themes emerged illustrating important underlying conditions contributing to participants’ improved self-efficacy: desire to gain knowledge about ways to improve health, development of social support, adoption of program teachings in family lifestyle, and improvement in health outcomes. Findings of the current study may allow researchers to identify Mexican Americans at risk of non-completion and to develop strategies to improve lifestyle modification program attendance, and thus health outcomes. Qualitative findings underscore the importance of sociocultural context on individuals’ attempts to make lifestyle changes to manage their chronic illnesses. Successful adaptation of lifestyle interventions such as Beyond Sabor for at-risk populations in community-based settings will be critical in stemming the tide of MetS.

Aplikace vybrané metody identifikace účetního podvodu v podmínkách vybraného podniku / Application of selected methods of identifying accounting fraud in terms of the selected company

STAŇKOVÁ, Naděžda January 2016 (has links)
The aim of my diploma thesis was the application of the selected method of identifying accounting fraud in setting of chosen company. In the first part of this work were used methods based on the comparison of data chosen company with the data of competitive companies in the same industry or with the data of industry. I compare the return on equity (ROE), return on assets (ROA), Daily income and balance of accounts receivable, profit margin. In the next part of this work were used special methods to identify accounting fraud. I used methods Beneish M-score model, cash realization ratio, Jones nondiscretionary accruals. As an additional analysis, I used the bankruptcy Altman Z-score model. In conclusion, I compared the risks identified possible manipulation of financial statements for all tests and analyzes. All performed tests and analyzes in aggregate have identified this risk as low. Yet some of them pointed to further more detailed research in revenues, margins and setting transfer prices.

Thus, we examined the relationship between concentration indicators (C3 and HHI), competition (H-statistic) and risk (NPL, Z-score) for the period comprehended between 2001 and 2013. The relationship between non-performing loans (NPL), concentration and competition was empirically tested using panel data models. The results indicates that bank concentration has a significant impact on the NPL, suggesting that more concentrated systems are more fragile. On the other hand, the results for competition and NPL indicates that a more competitive environment may generate a more stable financial system.
