Are Groote Schuur Hospital anaesthesiologist burnt out? A cross-sectional study of prevalence and risk

Groenewald, Michael Burger 05 August 2021 (has links)
Background: Burnout and physician wellness are becoming increasingly topical. While some surveys have been performed with South African anaesthesiologists, these have been conducted in limited samples. While Burnout is often measured, there is a paucity of research on contributory risk and protective factors. Method: A contextual, prospective, cross-sectional study was conducted. The Maslach Burnout Inventory-Human Services Survey (MBI-HSS) and the Areas of Work-Life Survey (AWS) were used to assess Burnout and contributory organizational risk factors amongst state-employed anaesthesiologists working at Groote Schuur Hospital. Results: Out of a possible 127 members of staff (Medical officers, Registrars and Consultants), 81 responded with 75 completing the full survey (59% response rate). Only 4% of respondents were classified as “burnt out”, defined as scoring 8 high in all three domains of Burnout: High Emotional Exhaustion and Depersonalization and Low Personal Accomplishment. However, 67% of respondents scored high for at least one of the components of Burnout, indicating the majority of the respondents are at risk for developing clinically significant Burnout. The Areas of Work-Life survey showed that respondents found their workload inappropriate. However, responses for the categories of Control, Reward, Community, Fairness and Values were all in the acceptable range. Conclusion: While the overall rate of Burnout was low, the majority of respondents were at risk of developing Burnout. High perceived workload appeared to be a particular contributory factor. Protection against Burnout in this group may be provided by a combination of few organisational risk factors together with feelings of personal accomplishment.

DOES SPIRITUALITY REDUCE THE EFFECTS OF BURNOUT?

Godoy, Andrew, Allen, Nathan 01 June 2017 (has links)
Burnout is a topic that is drawing an increasing amount of attention in the social work field. The compassion and emotional energy that is used daily by these service providers can cause them to experience emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and reduced personal accomplishment. The effects of burnout are detrimental on several levels. Staff will experience decreased interest and efficiency in their work and may even leave their place of employment. Clients will not receive the help that they require and agencies will suffer from staff turnover and lowered productivity. Utilizing a survey including a burnout inventory and spirituality inventory, data was gathered regarding burnout and the spiritual attitudes and practices of 133 service providers. Results show that there is a negative significant relationship between depersonalization and spirituality. There was a positive significant relationship between personal accomplishment and spirituality. The correlation showed that personal accomplishment was negatively related to emotional exhaustion as well as depersonalization. These results are consistent with the literature in the way that it demonstrates that the use of spiritual beliefs and practices can reduce the effects of burnout on social workers.

Úspěchy našeho běžeckého lyžování na zimních olympijských hrách / Accomplishments of our cross-country skiing at the olympic games

Kubátová, Monika January 2013 (has links)
Title: Accomplishments of our cross-country skiing at the Winter Olympic Games Abstract: This thesis is focus on history of Czech and Czechoslovak cross-counrty skiing at the Winter Olympic Games from the first competition at WOG Chamonix 1924 to Vancouver 2010. Using the direct method and the method of content analysis it documents and summarizes the accomplishments of our cross-country representatives. It finds out that representatives of such a small country reached splendid results. But the available literature doesn't mention them as far as they didn't win a medal. Very interesting is the comparison between two skiing generations using the interview with their representatives Kveta Jeriova and Katerina Neumannova. The resulting comparison between their answers reaches a conclusion: the first of them had much harder conditions and worse facilities. In spite of this fact, she proved to be successful but her career was shorter and the number of medals smaller. Keywords: Winter olympic games, history, cross-country skiing, accomplishment

Unternehmensbewertung, Rating und Risikobewältigung

Blum, Ulrich, Gleißner, Werner 06 March 2007 (has links) (PDF)
We inquire into the possibilities to improve the stability of the firms by better managing risk. We propose to directly link risk management to rating, i.e. the ability to meet future financial obligations. Principal elements of rating methodology are discussed against the background of risk management. Next to the rating mark the riskrelated requirements for equity become the central measure for risk. Firms must balance the costs of improving their rating against the gains of an improved rating. Risk management is a major driver to improve shareholder value. Risk aggregation is the dominant method that uses information from risk management and synthesizes unique measure of value.

Prevalence of burnout among nurses working at a selected psychiatric hospital in Western Cape

Tununu, Anathi Faith January 2018 (has links)
Magister Curationis - Mcur / Research studies allude to the escalation of work related stress, which leads to burnout among mental health nurses, internationally. Mental health nursing is stressful because it is a helping profession that involves close interpersonal working relationships and the burden of providing nursing care to mental health care users (MHCUs) with complex emotional demands. These stressful working conditions render mental health nurses susceptible to burnout. Globally, health care services share a concern about the effects of burnout on nurses. Although burnout is a personal experience for the nurses, the results impact negatively on the quality of care delivered to MHCUs, while increasing the cost of care of the hospitals, which employ these mental health nurses.

Experiences of gender policing within the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) community

Jensen, Lauren Louise 01 December 2013 (has links)
This is an exploratory study and qualitative investigation of the social construction and enforcement of gender through social interactions with a specific focus on how gender policing is experienced within the LGBTQ community in Riverdale (pseudonym), the specific location of this study. Gender policing refers to the implicit and explicit feedback that one is accomplishing gender inappropriately according to contextual norms, expectations, and ideals, with the implied meaning that not conforming will result in real or assumed negative consequences. Two focus groups comprised of five people each who self-identified along the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and/or queer spectrum(s) in at least one context in their lives were used as the primary method for data collection. Inclusion criteria were based on those who identified with the LGBTQ community in Riverdale or who had had experiences in Riverdale in spaces that were predominantly LGBTQ. Focus group questions attempted to elicit participants' experiences within the LGBTQ community in Riverdale as they negotiated a sense of self in relation to others in the LGBTQ community. The content of the focus group discussions were analyzed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) as described by Smith and Osborn (2003). This study illuminates how gender as a system of power is experienced and assigned meaning within interpersonal relationships in service of developing a social identity through inclusion within an LGBTQ community. Results from the data analysis yielded five broad themes: (a) gender oppression, (b) discouragement with community, (c) attempts to cope, (d) queer, and (e) change. These themes reflect narratives of oppression in the dominant culture and the impact of oppression on identity work in the LGBTQ community in a rural college town. Results are presented within the context of gender and gender policing on structural levels, interpersonal levels, and the level of internalized self-policing. Instances of gender policing on an interactional level were often associated with the assumed threat of social rejection and isolation and the experience of disappointment, pain, and disconnection. Results from this study support the literature on (a) the accomplishment of gender, (b) the maintenance of power differentials through the regulation of perceived differences between sex and gender categories, (c) the development of identity as group process, and (d) perceived problems within the LGBTQ community such as the maintenance of oppression and barriers to social change through the process of inclusion and exclusion.

We came from a principle standard-constitutional analysis, showing its historical descent, its position and hermeneutical extent which can be given to the dispositive text. Being based on the institute standard examination, we then went to infraconstitutional analysis of the rules related. We noticed that there are specks of legal and practical advancements, however there are also some clear limitations for the lawsuit s rational run judicial development and accomplishment. In short, it is about a principle-logical constitutional standard which must be more and more compacted / O presente trabalho tem por finalidade analisar o preceito constitucional que prev? a garantia da dura??o razo?vel do processo.
