at
the University of Zululand, 2005. / This study set out to investigate the prevalence of burnout among teachers. To this end, the following objectives were formulated: To (a) ascertain the incidence of burnout among teachers in KwaZulu-Natal. (b) determine the manner in which teachers manifest burnout, (c) find out whether there is any association between teachers' biographical factors and burnout. In order to investigate the aims of the study the Maslach Burnout Inventory - Educators Survey was used. This instrument was administered to a sample of 364 teachers who teach in traditionally black secondary schools in three districts of the Zululand region of the province of KwaZulu-Natal.
Data was analysed by means of the chi-square one-sample test and the analysis of variance (ANOVA). After the analysis and interpretation of data was done, the study came to the following conclusions: (i) teachers differ in the extent to which they experience the incidence of burnout. There is a group of teachers who experience low burnout levels, there is also a group that experience moderate burnout levels and a group that experiences high burnout levels. However, the test revealed that the majority of teachers experience low burnout levels, (ii) There is a positive relationship between the variable of the level of education and emotional exhaustion, and between the variable of gender and personal accomplishment. This means that teachers who hold a postgraduate qualification experience high emotional exhaustion compared to their counterparts who hold lower qualifications. This further means that male teachers experience high personal accomplishment levels compared to their female counterparts, (iii) Finally the study revealed that there is no relationship between teachers' biographical factors (gender, age, marital status, level of education, position at school, work experience, average number of learners in classes taught, location of school) and burnout.

The Effectiveness of Course-Based Health Education Interventions Towards Increased Physical Activity Among College StudentsMartin, Jay Morris 01 January 2017 (has links)
Despite the many health benefits, physical activity participation among those between 18 to 24 years is in significant decline during the college-age years. Postsecondary education has been identified as an ideal environment where young adults should be targeted for physical activity participation. However, a limited number of studies have assessed the effectiveness of college-level health education and physical education program interventions to increase physical activity levels among college students. The purpose of this study was to examine current physical activity levels of college age students who have completed a college-level health education course and laboratory to gain a better understanding for developing and improving interventions targeted at increasing physical activity behaviors. The study employed a quantitative method using the Godin Leisure-Time Exercise Questionnaire, Exercise Motivation Inventory-2 and the Processes of Change Physical Activity Questionnaire 4.1, each designed specifically to assess leisure-time physical activity behaviors and identify patterns, habits, and how shifts in physical activity behavior occur. Study subjects included candidates who had completed a college-level health education lecture course and laboratory. Study findings showed no statistical significance regarding attitudes or behaviors about physical activity regardless of gender, class standing, or age. Although data analysis for this study provided no statistical significance, the findings are consistent with peer-reviewed literature, which suggests course-based physical activity programs only have been found to be minimally effective on long-term behavior change for increasing physical activity among college age students.

Relative Rates of Return to Controlled Irrigation Among Classes of Summer Paddy in the Guayas Basin, EcuadorAitken, Percy G. 01 May 1972 (has links)
The primary objective of this study was to examine rice production methods with special emphasis on farm and water irrigation management practices in the different rice farm types of the Guayas Basin of Ecuador. To do this, farmers were divided into eight categories on the basis of farm practices, seasonal farming, irrigation facilities and level of mechanization. Profits per hectare ranged from 4,807 to 762.10 sucres per hectare. Mechanization varied from totally mechanized to total absence of machinery. Year round farming varied to seasonal farming. Average production varied from 110 quintals of hulled rice to 20 quintals per hectare.
The preparation of farm budgets for the different types, presented some problems, due to the lack of available records by the small farmers and reluctance to provide data by the large mechanized units.
The cost/benefit ratios of changing from one type of farming to another were calculated as well as the labor absorption possibilities for the different types of farming. These could provide a criteria for planification of rice policies in Ecuador.

Three Essays on Labor Force Participation Rates Among the Fifty States, with Empirical Tests Using Panel DataGroesbeck, John D. 01 May 1993 (has links)
This dissertation examined the theoretical foundations of an individual's labor force participation decision. Further, this dissertation provided empirical analysis of the impact of state tax rates, the duration of unemployment, and household size on male, female, and combined labor force participation rates of the fifty states from 1985 to 1990. Empirical tests showed that: 1) no significant relationship existed between tax variables and participation rates; 2) the duration of unemployment was positively related with participation rates while unemployment was negatively related; 3) service sector growth was positively correlated with longer durations of unemployment; and 4) household size was negatively related with female participation, although no significant relationship existed between household size and male participation rates.

VAD ÄR PROBLEMET REPRESENTERAT ATT VARA? : En diskursanalys enligt WPR-modellen av problemrepresentationer i politiska dokument avseende ungdomskriminaliteten i SverigeEminbeili, Aydan, Getiner, Lydia January 2023 (has links)
Crime among youth is a social problem in Sweden and a much-debated topic in politics lately. The main purpose of the study is to identify and problematize the perceptions of Stefan Löfven's (2019–2021) and Ulf Kristersson's (2022) governments, which are the basis for their problem representations of youth crime in Sweden. To be able to carry out the study, we will mostly use Carol Bacchi's discourse analytical method and theory called "What's the problem represented to be?" which is abbreviated WPR. The questions we have prepared regarding the study's purpose and analysis method are as follows: How do Stefan Löfven and Ulf Kristersson governments represent the crime problem among youth? What perceptions about criminality among youth underlie the government’s problem representations? What is left unproblematic in the problem representations? The conclusions are that Stefan Löfven's government focuses a lot on rehabilitating criminal youth, the focus is thus on the underlying socio-economic causes of the problem of crime. What is left invisible in the problem representation thus shows how victims of crime are affected by the criminal acts of criminal youth. Ulf Kristersson's government sees the problem as that victims of crime are not treated fairly; therefore, criminal youth must be locked up to reduce illegal activity. What is thus made invisible is how these criminal youth are ultimately affected by this measure. With this, we concluded that both governments’ problem representations are based on many shortcomings and ignorance. This is because many important issues according to previous research, such as individual risk factors, are left unproblematic in the problem representations.

Academic Achievement Of Hispanic Students In Orange County Public High Schools:do Hispanic Students Have Varying Degrees Of Academic Success Based On The High School They Attend?Fox, Lawrence Marc 01 January 2005 (has links)
This study examined academic achievement levels of Hispanic high school students. Seven high schools in Orange County Public Schools in Orlando, Florida were selected. The schools were selected based on socio-economic status and demographics to provide a wide range of participation. The following are some of the purposes that guided this study: (a) to determine if there are differences in academic achievement among Hispanic high school students in each school, (b) to determine differences in academic achievement based on gender, (c) to determine differences in academic achievement based on LEP status, and (d) to determine if there is a relationship between grade point average and FCAT Reading scores and FCAT Mathematic scores. The findings of this study were delineated through an examination of data using mean Grade Point Averages, mean Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test Scores (Reading and Mathematics), socio-economics, gender, Limited English Proficiency status, and attendance. This study supported, but are not limited to, the following conclusions: (a) There was a difference in grade point averages among Hispanic high school students, (b) Hispanic students have lower mean grade point averages and lower mean FCAT Reading and Mathematic scores when compared to the school as a whole, (c) there are relationships between attendance and grade point averages and there is a relationship between grade point average and FCAT Reading and Mathematic scores (d) there are differences in grade point averages between male and female Hispanic students, (e) there is a difference in grade point average based on socio-economic level, and (f) there is a difference in grade point averages based on LEP status. Recommendations of the study include but are not limited to (a) further research in the area of academic achievement among Hispanic students but to disaggregate Hispanics to look for distinct differences. (b) research in the area of comparing LEP students and academic achievement., (c) research to determine why there is a disparity in numbers of 9th grade Hispanic students and 12th grade Hispanic students, (d) research of Hispanic students by doing a longitudinal study. The longitudinal study should follow 9th grade students from the high schools in one or more county through four years.

A Phenomenographic Study Critique of Evangelistic Equipping Among Pastors Aligned with the Evangelical ChurchBudd, Mervyn J 11 1900 (has links)
Evangelical churches hold evangelism as a hallmark of their movement, but evangelism and conversion rates are in decline. Might this decline be the result of absent or inadequate evangelistic equipping on the part of the church? This project presents a phenomenographic analysis and critique on how congregations are being equipped for evangelism. It employs both surveys of congregational members as well as pastoral leaders. Follow-up interviews with pastoral leaders have also been used to clarify findings from the initial surveys. These interviews have been analyzed to discover the qualitatively different understandings that are evident in the data regarding the phenomenon of evangelistic equipping. These understandings are categorized, and a description of each category type is provided. The results of these findings provide a more expansive understanding of the equipping task and offer specific ways in which the task of evangelistic equipping can be expanded to serve the Evangelical church better.
