In the last twenty years as riverine comes passing accelerated hum transition process any lifestyle, generating an increase in chronic non-communicable, especially for systemic arterial hypertension. Objective: To analyze the risk factors of hypertension of the riverine communities São Francisco and Novo Renascer, the island of Marchantaria, the city of Iranduba, State of Amazonas. Methodology: Data collection was performed in the period 08 July to 24 September 2015, with 123 bordering two communities of the island of Marchantaria, municipality of Iranduba, Amazonas. Were carried out measurement of weight, height, waist circumference and waist-hip ratio, it was checked blood pressure and performed interview for survey socioeconomic riverine level. Data were analyzed for Epi Info Program 7. Results: The results showed that in the communities study the male was majority. There was not significant association between hypertension and income. There was a negative correlation between hypertension and the level of education, both in the general population of male and female, in the divided by ages. In the analysis of marital status, there was no statistical difference for the variable marital status in your correlation with hypertension. Hypertension prevalence was 59.09% for people of the community São Francisco and 40% of the people Community Novo Renascer. In two communities, the values the anthropometric measures and blood pressure measures do not have significant differences between them, although values above the recommended by Brazilian Ministry of Health. Conclusions: The riverine residents in the Island Marchantaria, whether the community of São Francisco or Novo Renascer had equivalent prevalence of borderline blood pressure and hypertension. Risk factors for both communities, with respect to age and sex, is related to the anthropometric measures with overweight and blood pressure measures above the recommended maximums. There was smoking correlated with systemic arterial hypertension, with the highest rate in the elderly of both communities. Finally, we conclude the hypertension is a serious public health problem that afflicts riverine people, which guides the need for implementation of public health policies for health promotion and prevention of hypertension geared to riverine communities.

Tolerabilidade e eficácia da fluoxetina na redução de parâmetros antropométricos e metabólicos em mulheres obesas / Tolerability and effectiveness of fluoxetine in reducing anthropometric and metabolic parameters in obese women.

Camila Guimarães 27 March 2006 (has links)
Obesity is a chronic condition that has been reaching epidemic proportions worldwide. It is a risk factor for numerous medical disorders and excessive mortality. Long-term treatment, including pharmacotherapy, may be necessary for many obese patients. This study aimed to assess the tolerability and clinical effectiveness of Fluoxetine, as an adjunct therapy to a 1.500 Kcal/day diet, in reducing anthropometric and metabolic parameters in obese women. Fluoxetine (60 mg/day), was compared to placebo in 19 obese females in a 90-day trial. Fluoxetine therapy (n=9) resulted in a statistically significant greater mean reduction in weight (-9,24 vs -1,05 kg), BMI (-3,64 vs -0,45 Kg/m²) and waist circumference (-12,3 vs -2,9 cm), than placebo group (n=10). There was also an elevation of HDL-cholesterol (p< 0,01) in Fluoxetine group and mean triglycerides levels was reduced (-39,5 vs +18,7 mg/dL) when compared to placebo. Side effects most commonly reported by the patients were insomnia, nausea and somnolence. We concluded that Fluoxetine may provide an effective and well tolerated possibility in reducing anthropometric and metabolic parameters, preventing the development of cardiovascular risk factors and reducing morbidity in obese women.

Pacientes pós-cirúrgicos de enxerto ósseo alveolar: elaboração e aplicação de instrumento de coleta de dados para as áreas de nutrição e enfermagem / Post-surgical patients of alveolar bone grafting: elaboration and application of an instrument for data collection on nutrition and nursing

Marli Luiz Beluci 07 July 2010 (has links)
Aim: Relate the nutritional anthropometric status with food acceptance by patients who have undergone alveolar bone grafting during hospital stay. Elaborate an interdisciplinary instrument for data collection, involving nutrition and nursing team. Model: It consists of a prospective, longitudinal, observational, descriptive and comparative study, with quantitative approach. Patients with alveolar bone grafts were included. A nutritional anthropometric evaluation was utilized at two moments: one day before the surgery (M1) and at hospital discharge (M2). The interdisciplinary instrument for data collection was utilized during the patients stay in the hospital. Location: Hospital for Rehabilitation of Craniofacial Anomalies, University of São Paulo (HRAC/USP), Bauru. Sample: 150 patients, aged 10 to 20 years (exclusively), both genders, with alveolar bone graft (ABG). Results: Most patients were eutrophic during the study, adapting to the diet which is enough to keep nutritional status even after a surgical trauma or change in the eating pattern. There was correlation between Body Mass Index (BMI) and a S Triceps skin fold (TSF) + Subscapular skin fold (SSF) at M1 and M2. The same occurred between BMI and Mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) during the study. All of them were significant with p<0.0001. Regarding food acceptance, the median of reduction indicator for BMI, S TSF + SSF and MUAC, from M1 to M2, for the 145 who ate appropriately was respectively 0.37, 0,0 and 0.3 and 0.71, 3,.0 e 0.0 for the five ones who have not accepted the diet . Therefore, patients who have not done the diet appropriately showed increased loss of skin fold compared to the others. BMI and MUAC showed similar decrease in both groups. Conclusions: The interdisciplinary instrument for data collection to ABG surgeries was useful to perform appropriate investigation on the Nutritional Profile of postsurgical patients of ABG and supervision of food acceptance. In addition, it became an aggregating element to the interdisciplinary work of nutrition and nursing since it associates the nutritional anthropometric status with supervision and food acceptance. Thus, the instrument was strategic for this action.

Relação entre índices de gordura corporal e massa óssea em adultos e idosos: estudo ISA - Capital (2014) / Relationship between body fat indexes and bone mass in adults and the elderly: ISA Capital Study (2015)

Patricia Couceiro Santos 30 January 2018 (has links)
Introduction - In recent years several hypotheses have been investigated on the relationship between body fat and bone mass. Objective - The present study aims to evaluate the association of body composition indexes and bone mass in adults and the elderly. Methods - The study was conducted in a subsample from the populationbased cross-sectional study titled Health Study of São Paulo (ISA-Capital Study- 2015), held from january 2015 to may 2016. This 396 individuals, 129 adults (18 to 59 years) and 167 elderly (60 and over), of both sexes. Data on demographic, anthropometric [weight (kg), height (m), waist circumference and hip (cm)], body composition (body fat distribution) and bone (bone mineral density and composition) analyzed. The ratios was calculated, ranked and analyzed: Body Mass Index (BMI), Body Adiposity Index (BAI), Body Roundness Index (BRI), a Body Shape Index (ABSI) and the Conicity Index (C index) and as a comparison method was the Fat Mass Index (FMI) obtained by DXA. Bone mineral density (BMD) was evaluated in the lumbar spine L1-L4 and femoral neck through energy dual beam absorptiometry technique, issued by an X-ray source - DXA (dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry) Lunar model iDXA Advance (GE Healthcare, Madison, WI, USA). Descriptive statistics (mean, standard deviation, percentiles) were calculated; the normality was tested by Anderson-Darling, thus the Mann-Whitney test and Spearman correlations were applied. The BF (kg) was adjusted by gender and age and the CT, L-L4 and femoral BMD were adjusted for gender, age group, physical activity, alcohol intake e smoking, with the use of Generalized Linear Models. Once the most appropriate model was identified for a response variable, we attempted to reduce the number of parameters using the Akaike Information Criterion (AIC). The SPSS software, 23.0 (SPSS Inc, Chicago IL, USA) and R (Computer statistical system design) for Windows, version 3.4.1 for data analysis were used. The level of significance was set at 5 per cent. Results - In article 1, it presents revision about the relationship between anthropometric and body fat indexes with chronic-degenerative diseases (CDC) such as diabetes mellitus, systemic arterial hypertension, metabolic syndrome, among others. In article 2 a low proportion of osteoporosis was observed in the participants. In the relationship between the anthropometric indices with the BF (kg), we observed that, with the exception of the IFC and VAI, the other indexes presented a positive and significant correlation with the BF in kg (p <0.001). However, the model that presented the best fit and association for BF was FMI (89.97 per cent), followed by BMI (83,93 per cent). In the association of the indexes with BMD in the 3 sites, we observed low values of prediction of the models evaluated, and the model that presented the best association was the BMI for femoral BMD. Conclusion - The anthropometric index that most approached the BF (kg) was BMI, as observed in the correlation analysis and confirmed in the inferential analysis, since the formulas to obtain both indices are very similar. In relation to BMD, no anthropometric index is able to predict BMD at the 3 sites evaluated in the studied sample.

Avaliação antropométrica em mulheres com dor pélvica crônica / Anthropometric evaluation of women with chronic pelvic pain. 2017. Dissertation

Joyce Beatriz da Silva 17 February 2017 (has links)
Introduction: Chronic pelvic pain (DPC) is a frequent complaint in gynecological practice. It is defined as localized pain in the region of the pelvis, not exclusively menstrual, persistent for at least six months and intense enough to cause functional disability. Among the gynecological causes related to CPD is endometriosis, which has as main clinical problem the painful syndrome, manifesting itself as dysmenorrhea, pelvic pain, abdominal pain, dyspareunia, and painful defecation. Objective: The objective of this study was to determine the mean body composition and anthropometric markers, food behavior analysis and pain assessment, comparing two groups of women with CPD (chronic pelvic pain) secondary to endometriosis and secondary to other causes. Methodology: Twenty-two women with clinical diagnosis of PCD secondary to endometriosis and secondary to other causes were invited through the non-probalistic sample selection method, recruited at the Chronic Pelvic Pain Clinic of the Hospital das Clínicas of the Medical School of Ribeirão Preto Of São Paulo (AGDP-HCFMRP-USP). Upon agreeing to participate in the research, they signed the informed consent form. They were submitted to an anthropometric evaluation (weight, height, waist circumference, abdomen and hip), food evaluation (24 hour recall), bioimpedance test to evaluate fat percentage and visual analog scale - EVA, which is Of a scale from 0 to 10 to assess pain. It is a case-control study. The case group is characterized by women with PCD secondary to other causes such as myosfascial syndrome, dyspareunia, among others, and the control group characterized by women with CPD secondary to endometriosis, diagnosed through evaluation of specific exams. Results: Of the 122 women invited, only 91 women completed the study, of which 46 women were diagnosed with PCD secondary to endometriosis and 45 women with PCD secondary to other causes. Characterized as a group with endometriosis and without endometriosis. The mean age of the group with endometriosis was 36.78 ± 7.58 and the group without endometriosis was 38.55 ± 7.5 years. There was no significant difference between the percentage of fat (p <0.2153) and the mean percentage of fat in the group with endometriosis was 34.92% ± 6.11 and without endometriosis 36.95 ± 6.1. The analysis of pain intensity was: 7.2 ± 2.06 in the group with endometriosis and 5.93 ± 2.64 in the group without endometriosis (p 0.0302). In relation to the food recall that evaluated macronutrients and micronutrients, there was also no difference between the macronutrients evaluated, the average calorie intake of the group with endometriosis was 1633.76 Kcal ± 714.63 and without endometriosis of 1477.5 ± 707, 11 (p.15,151). However, in relation to the micronutrients, zinc presented a significant difference (p.0.0417) in relation to the two groups analyzed, being in the endometriosis group an average intake of 11.46 mg ± 9.98 and the group without endometriosis 8.17 ± 7 , 77, where both groups had higher intakes than the WHO recommendation. The amino acid tryptophan had a significant difference (0.0494) between the groups evaluated. The daily recommendation (RDA) for tryptophan is 5 mg / day. The case group had an average intake of 506.55 mg ± 407.89 and the control group 373.57 mg ± 392.48. Conclusion: It is concluded that there is no difference in relation to all anthropometric parameters evaluated in both groups, except for what is said about the zinc micronutrient and the tryptophan amino acid analyzed by the 24-hour food recall, which demonstrates that they must be performed Interventions in both groups, but that further studies are still needed.

The comparison of visual skills, lifestyle evaluation, body composition, blood pressure and cardio stress index, before and after sports vision exercises

Mahomed Ali, Faheema January 2014 (has links)
Sports vision gained attention in the late 90’s and has since been the focus of many research studies. Thus far sports vision research has effectively succeeded in determining the importance of visual skills and also discovering the ability to improve visual skills through training. It is this ability to enhance visual skill performance that has led to the development of vision training programmes. However, the effectiveness of these training programmes is far from unanimous with many studies yielding inconclusive results. Possible reasons for this are the lack of scientific measures implored, testing and training of skills that are not specific to the subjects and training programmes that are unrealistic. Another major area that is missing from sports vision research is the accountability of external variables like; lifestyle, anthropometric and cardiac measurements. Aspects such as; stress, nutrition and hypo/hypertension are proposed to either have an enhancing or declining effect on visual skills. These relationships have not been scientifically tested and remain undefined. It is also important to note that research has thus far been limited to athletes. This study therefore aimed to determine the effect of two different training programmes on the visual skill performance of university students. Furthermore, external variables are determined to certify that visual skill training alone would improve visual skills and to determine and define if any relationships exist between visual skills and external variables. In order to meet the aims of this study, volunteer university students underwent pre testing of specific visual skills together with lifestyle evaluations, body composition and cardiac health testing. Thereafter the total participants (n=600) were divided into three groups. Group 1 (n=169) acted as a control group with no visual training taking place in a six week period, group 2 (n=225) underwent lab-based training with a simple repetition of testing methods used as training methods and group 3 (n=205) underwent training via an internet- based training method. Thereafter all variables were tested again and statistical analysis of the data was performed. Results showed the lab-based training group having the most improvement in visual skills with all skills improving besides vergence. The Eyedrills training group also showed significant improvements in focusing, tracking and eye- hand coordination. The control group showed the least improvement in visual skills thereby ruling out the notion of improvements occurring only due to test familiarity. Significant changes occurred in a variety of the external variables across the three groups. Due to the varied results with regards to external variables, correlations between these variables and visual skill performance is still unclear and remains undefined. There is enough evidence from this study to conclude that visual skills are improved due to visual skill training. The change from the typical subject type (i.e. athletes) is important in the expansion of visual skill testing and training to other fields besides the sports one. The effect of external variables on visual skills still remains unanswered and therefore more precise research in this regard is warranted. / Dissertation (MSc)--University of Pretoria, 2014. / gm2014 / Physiology / unrestricted

Svobodová, Hana January 2017 (has links)
Objectives: The aim of this non-interventional observational study was to determine the nutritional statu s of long-term hospitalized pacients in a psychiatric hospital using anthropometric indicators of nutritional status. Assess the presence of overweight, obesity and pathological waist circumference in patients with schizophrenia. Evaluate the incidence of malnutrition and risk of its development in patients with dementia. Methods: The data were obtained by measuring the selected patients in Psychiatric hospital Kosmonosy, were collected data on body weight, arm circumference, waist and calf. Data were completed by information from nursing records - body height of the patient, age, length of hospital stay and used antipsychotic medication. The data of weight and height were used to calculated BMI. Results: The study included a total of 121 patients, of whom 56 (46.28 %) men and 65 (53.72 %) women. Patients were divided into two groups by diagnosis, the first group of schizophrenia, and schizoaffective disorders (93 patients) and another group with a diagnosis of dementia (28 patients). In the first group, the incidence of overweight was present in 26.88 % of patients, obesity in 25.81 % of patients and abdominal obesity was present in 79.57 % of patients. The highest average BMI, the prevalence...

Proposed sizing for young South African women of African descent with triangular shaped bodies

Muthambi, Amukelani January 2012 (has links)
In South Africa, a representative anthropometric study of South African women has never been undertaken, as such little is known about the body shapes of South African women. Nevertheless, research on the body shapes of South African women is ongoing (Makhanya, 2012). According to the preliminary findings of Makhanya’s (2012) research, 59.26% of South African female students of African descent have a triangular body shape. The triangular body shape differs from the ideal body shape that ready-to-wear apparel sizing is presently based on, and is a contributing factor to the problems experienced with the quality of fit of ready-to-wear apparel by South African women of African descent. Therefore, the aim of this exploratory study was to develop experimental size specifications for the body measurements required for a basic sheath dress for South African female students of African descent with a triangular body shape. The students were of medium height, aged between 18 and 25 years, in the size 6/30 to size 14/38 size range, and enrolled at the University of Pretoria. The experimental size specifications were developed by statistically analysing an anthropometric database of female students of the University of Pretoria using regression analysis. Thereafter, the quality of fit attained from the experimental size specifications and the traditional (i.e. current) size specifications was evaluated to determine whether the experimental size specifications offer the unit of analysis with improved overall quality of fit. A panel of professionals with experience in apparel fit evaluation evaluated the quality of fit of the test garments. The test garments developed from the experimental size specifications were considered by the panel of professionals to offer the unit of analysis with improved overall quality of fit. The findings of the study suggest that South African ready-to-wear apparel sizing needs to accommodate the different body shapes found in South Africa. / Dissertation (MConsumer Science)--University of Pretoria, 2012. / gm2014 / Consumer Science / unrestricted

U cilju utvrđivanja efekata procene specifičnog programa vežbanjana motoričke sposobnosti i antropometrijske karakteristike dece predškolskog uzrasta, primenjene subaterija od 7 motoričkih testova i osam antropometrijskih mera.
/
In order to determine the evaluation effects of specific exercise program on motor abilities and anthropometric characteristicsof preschool children, a battery of 7 motor tests and eightanthropometric measures were applied. The current study was conducted on a sample of 191preschoolers (90 in the experimental and 101 in the control groups), aged 4 to 5 five. They were the respondents in three projects implemented by the Faculty of Sport and Physical Education Novi Sad, in the tenyear period. The obtained data were analyzed by multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA). It can be concluded that the application of experimental and control models of exercise resulted in substantial improvement of certain motor skills in the experimental group compared to the control group. In the space of anthropometry it was not statistically significant difference between groups in the observed three time points in the ten-year period. This doctoral thesis revealed that positive effects of the transformation of certain dimensions anthropological statusat different time points and with different generations of children, regardless of socioeconomic status, level of physical activity of children. In fact, the practical value of this work is to analyze the model of kinetic activities, which as such can be applied to all clubs and schools that work with children of preschool and early school age.

The work was about lifestyle and assessing growth and physical development. 621 students participated in this research, being 302 girls and 319 boys, aged between 10 and 18 years old, who attend a public school in the state school system in the city of Bauru- SP, enrolled between the 6th grade of Elementary School and the 3rd grade of Education Medium. These students are going through a transition phase between childhood and adulthood, better known as adolescence in which body, mind and their social relationships are in the process of formation. The main objective of this study was to identify the global and individual lifestyle profile as well as the students' anthropometric profile. The study is descriptive, qualitative, quantitative, exploratory and transversal since it establishes relationships between variables (body dimensions and lifestyle factors) with a qualitative and, at times, quantitative analysis approach. For that, anthropometric assessment and PEVI assessment - individual lifestyle profile) were carried out. In the PEVI evaluation, five factors were evaluated: nutrition, physical activity, preventive behavior, stress control and relationships. In the anthropometric evaluation, we analyzed the variables weight, height, wingspan and the anthropometric relationships RCQ, RCE and BMI. We noticed that the majority of students (64,4%) are between the intermediate and ... (Complete abstract click electronic access below) / Mestre
