Biodisponibilidade da gordura em dietas para carnívoros : efeitos dietéticos e da espécie animal / Biodisponibility of fats in carnivores diets : dietary effects and animal specieMarx, Fábio Ritter January 2016 (has links)
Fats are important components of carnivores diets, however inherent factors of diets composition, mainly fibers and minerals, may affect its use by the animals, requiring further studies. Studies evaluating endogenous fat loss (EFL) and the effects on apparent total tract digestibility of fat are limited and divergent. The objectives of these studies were: to determine the EFL in dogs and mink; apply the EFL to calculated the true total tract digestibility of fats; and to evaluate the effects of dietary fiber composition and an emulsifying agent on fats digestibility in dogs. On the first study, the EFL was evaluated in adult dogs. Diets with increasing levels of poultry fat were used and the EFL was determined by regression analysis. The EFL was obtained according to the dogs’ body weight (BW) as 155 mg/kg BW/day, or according to dry matter (DM) fat intake, as 7.9 g/kg DM intake. The apparent total tract digestibility of fat increases according to the intake level. However, the true total tract digestibility of fat, EFL corrected, remained unaffected by fat intake. The relation between EFL and fat intake is higher for low fat diets and explains why the apparent digestibility increases according to intake. On the second study, the EFL was measured in mink. Diets with graded levels of soybean oil were offered and the EFL evaluated by regression. The value of 0.5 g/100 g DM intake was obtained, close to the reported with dogs. The third study assessed the influences of dietary fibers and soy lecithin on apparent total tract digestibility of fat in adult dog diets. Were evaluated three carbohydrate sources; corn starch, cellulose and beet pulp; combined or not with soy lecithin. The beet pulp decreased apparent and true total tract digestibility of fat in dogs, increased the moisture level of faeces and the faecal score, yet the faeces still had good quality. The soy lecithin did not improve digestibility of macronutrients and energy of diets.

The objective was to evaluate the effect of organic fertilizers, in successive cultivations of chicory and red beet. Two experiments were installed at Chácara São João, in Botucatu – SP. Ramdomized blocks were used for the experimental design with 16 treatments, by combinations of four types of fertilizers at four levels, characterizing a factorial scheme 4 x 4, with four replications. The treatments were organic compost, biodynamic compost, laminate compost with cattle manure and laminate compost with Bokashi, all of them 0, 90, 180 e 270 kg N.ha-1. The experimental units consisted of three rows of chicory (first cultivation), and three rows of red beet (second cultivation), with two meters length. The space among the plants was 30 cm for chicory, with 18 plants per plot, and 15 cm for red beet, with 36 plants per plot. Analysis of the soil were made before the installation of the experiment, after the harvest of the chicory and after the harvest of the red beet, and analysis of the amount of minerals (N, P, K, Ca, Mg) present in chicory and red beet. In all treatments chicory and red beet showed adequate development. The original level of nutrients in the soil, resulted in absence of response at any form and dosis of fertilizers, including zero level. So, all treatments resulted enough in the nutritional demands of Cichorium endivia and Beta vulgaris.

Previous issue date: 2016-06-14 / Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (CONACYT) / Bees are the most important pollinators of agricultural ecosystems by carrying out pollination of up to 90% of native plants and more than one third of cultivated plants. Studies conducted around the world have been demonstrating a phenomenon called CCD (Colony Collapse Disorder), whose causal agent several factors including diseases that affect this group. Among them, the varroa resulting from the Varroa destructor mite attack, is reported as pathogen major impact factor on the Apis mellifera. In view of this, the objective of this study was to test the efficiency of three methods to control V. destructor: alternative, obtained from the distillation of oregano (Origanum vulgare Linnaeus, 1753), thyme (Thymus vulgaris Linnaeus, 1753) and
sugar beet (Beta vulgaris Linnaeus, 1753); biological, run base drones and larvae chemical, carried out with the application of active flumethrin principle. The results were evaluated by statistical analysis in R program to determine the differences between treatments and proposed mergers and select the best method of control. In the analysis, it was observed that the alternative method showed a significant difference by highlighting thyme distillation as more efficient because there is no significant killing of bees and cause the death of all the mites in a shorter time compared to the other distillates. The biological method hornets larvae base is also
preferably effective due to mite in these individuals. In chemical control the use of the active ingredient flumethrin caused poisoning in bees, with diarrhea in the first 6 hours after application, and after 48 hours caused a mortality of 100%, which demonstrates be impractical to control the mite.
Dentre elas, a varroose, resultante do ataque do ácaro Varroa destructor, é o
(Thymus vulgaris Lineus, 1753) e beterraba (Beta vulgaris Lineus, 1753); o biológico,
No controle químico o uso do

The use of treated wastewater in agriculture provides for the recycling of nutrients, it is a
cheap effluent disposal option and studies predicate that there is a significant increase in
agricultural productivity. The present study had as objective to analyze the agronomic
influence of the reuse of wastewater treated in the beet cultivation and the public acceptance
as to the practice of this reuse. The methodology consisted of a qualitative and quantitative
research, with two areas: the first stage was in greenhouse at the Department of Agronomic
Engineering (DEA) at the Federal University of Sergipe/São Cristóvão Campus; and the
second stage was performed at the Escola Estadual Professor Hamilton Alves Rocha in the
Eduardo Gomes Complex, located in the municipality of São Cristovão/SE. The experimental
design used was Randomized Blocks (DBC), composed of four treatments and five replicates,
with 20 useful plots and four plants per useful plot, with four percentages of wastewater and /
or drinking water from the Sergipe Supply Company (DESO); T 1-100% DESO's water; T2-
75% DESO's water + 25% wastewater; T3-75% wastewater + 25% DESO's water and T4-
100% wastewater. The irrigation blade was obtained using the method of FAO 56. In the first
stage the data obtained with the agronomic parameters evaluated were submitted to analysis
of variance and the averages of the treatments were compared by the Tukey test at the level of
0.01 of probability. The physical-chemical quality analyzes of treated wastewater and
drinking water were compared by the limits of the physical-chemical parameters of Class 1
fresh waters of CONAMA Resolution 357/2005 and CONAMA Resolution 430/2011. For the
second stage, the selection of the application sample of the research form was determined by a
simple and random sample of the finite population, with an experimental error of maximum
10%. The results obtained in the analyzes showed that the reuse water did not serve as a
nutritional contribution for the beet's development, since Treatment 1 (T1) with the use of
100% of drinking water presented better results in comparison to the others treatments,
mainly in the differentiation referring to the fresh root mass. As for the degree of acceptance,
the greater number of students accept the reuse of water from the treatment station.

Re-locating Japanese Canadian history : sugar beet farms as carceral sites in Alberta and Manitoba, February 1942-January 1943Ketchell, Shelly D. 11 1900 (has links)
This thesis examines Alberta and Manitoba sugar beet farms as carceral sites for displaced
Japanese Canadians during the Second World War. Previous literature has focused on the
relocation of Japanese Canadians but has not addressed the many distinct sites that marked the
boundaries of incarceration for Japanese Canadians. By exploring issues of citizenship and
history, this thesis examines the many ways that regulation was imposed on Japanese Canadians
by state and extra-state organizations and individuals. This subject was explored using critical
discourse analysis of the Calgary Herald and the Winnipeg Free Press for a twelve month period
beginning February 1, 1942, two months prior to the announcement of the Sugar Beet
Programme and ending January 31, 1943, as original beet contracts covered only the 1942 crop
year.
My analysis follows two major themes: sugar beet farms as carceral sites and the use of
citizenship narratives to both legitimize and erase Japanese Canadian labour. Utilizing Fbucault's
notion of 'carceral', I show how disciplinary strategies were used to strip Japanese Canadians of
their social, economic and political citizenship. While Japanese Canadians were never formally
incarcerated, I argue that the term carceral needs to be reworked in order to include losses of
liberty that are not formally sanctioned. I examine newspaper reports regarding official state
policy, local community responses, protests and individual letters to the editors, and conclude
that, indeed, Japanese Canadians underwent surveillance, supervision, constraint and coercion,
all markers of incarceration.
Citizenship discourses were a crucial tool of both state and non-state agencies. Further,
'whiteness' was central to these discourses. Citizenship discourses such as patriotism and duty
were directed at 'white' citizens to encourage their acceptance of Japanese Canadian relocation.
Further, these same discourses were used to recruit a volunteer 'white' labour force. However,
despite the significant contributions of Japanese Canadians to this wartime industry, never were
these types of discursive rewards or the subsequent material benefits offered to them. Further, the
voices of Japanese Canadians were also silenced by the media. Thus, Japanese Canadians
became invisible and silent workers who could claim no voice and thus, no membership in the
nation. / Arts, Faculty of / Sociology, Department of / Graduate
