The apocalypse and its relevance to mission theology: an analysis of David Bosch's transforming eschatological paradigm

Wadhams, Michael Daniel 30 November 2003 (has links)
Within the first chapter I highlight the extent Platonism influenced modern eschatology and motives for mission. This dualism led to separating divine and secular history and suited the philosophy of secular historians and theologian's who had no taste for divine reality purveying both everyday history, and individual lives. The second chapter discusses how these views, because of Premillennial-Dispensationalism, created American fundamentalism that changed what motivates foreign and local missions. Oppression and the poor have become nothing more than the evidences of a corrupt world that is destined to be destroyed; hence, all stress is concentrated on saving individual souls from the wrath to come. The third chapter consists in analysing David Bosch's aversion to this very notion and his reasons for avoiding apocalyptic language in many of his writings. I conclude in agreement with Bosch's motivation for mission and a similar view of eschatology which embraces a present realised kingdom and a future consummation thereof. / Christian Spirituality, Church History and Missiology / M. Orientador: Ernesto Giovanni Boccara / Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campnas, Instituto de Artes / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-19T18:57:22Z (GMT). The work presented here consists of an artistic production in the area of visual poetry by which unique sculptural expressions have been developed that are in relationship with the works of the painter Hieronymus Bosch. The most significant similarity is not presented in the formal aspect, but it is seen in another instance, in the inquiry of the inner man, in the search of the profound realities common to every human being. This dissertation begins with the investigation of the conceptual and symbolic universe of the triptych "The Garden of Earthly Delights", by Bosch, aiming at to establish a conceptual frame of reference from which one can glimpse the relations between this work and the work presented here. From these references, reflections evolve towards discussing the notion of identity in time, the ambiguity of the relationship between knowing and being, and the importance of vital impulse, the human will. These are questions and concerns underlying the author's own artwork, which are elaborated in a dialoguing form with the views of various thinkers cited in this work / Mestrado / Mestre em Artes

Andrýs, Jan January 2013 (has links)
The aim of this work was to design test bend for vehicle air-conditioning. This test bend should simulate interior of the car and the engine compartment. Electric motor is used to drive compressor in test bend. Air supplied to test bend is modified to extreme conditions and the volume of supplied air is the same as the car drove at 50 km/h. Main frame of test bend is made from aluminium profiles manufactured by Bosch Rexroth, which provides great modularity. Walls are made from insulated panels by ELCOM System, they have very good insulation and are strong so additional equipment can be installed inside. Construction design was made is SolidWorks with 3D models of test bend as output. Air-conditong parts which were used as samples are originally from Skoda Octavia II. For this vehicle were made calculations of heat loads. In conclusion is simple testing example for this test bend and although there are some examples for future measuring.

The potential use of the invasive species Cereus jamacaru (Cactaceae) to control nematode infections in sheep

Kandu-Lelo, Clement 11 August 2010 (has links)
This study was stimulated by a publication of Mr Mike Bosch (Bosch 2007) that Cereus jamacaru DC (Cactaceae) used by him on his farm is effective for gastrointestinal nematode control in livestock. This plant, widely known as Queen of the night, is a serious invasive weed. We evaluated this claim in in vitro assays and in vivo experiments in sheep experimentally infected with Haemonchus contortus and Trichostrongylus colubriformis. This is the first report of such an anthelmintic trial in livestock involving C. jamacaru. The first study was to repeat the farmer’s work under strictly controlled conditions. In vivo studies were conducted to determine the possible direct anthelmintic effects of C. Jamacaru on ovine gastrointestinal nematodes. Eighteen sheep were allocated to three groups and were infected with 4000 H. Contortus and 6000 T. Colubriformis infective larvae given in 3 divided doses over a period of three days. From day 0 until day 49 of the experiment, sheep were drenched once a week with fresh blended C. jamacaru plants with the core removed at the same (32.33 g/sheep) or double the dose (64.66 g/sheep) used by Mr Bosch. No negative effects of the double dose were observed during the period of the experiment. Faeces were collected twice a week for faecal egg count. Based on the in vivo experiments, C. Jamacaru was not effective in reducing H. Contortus and T. Colubriformis in sheep to the 70% reduction levels of the control treatments considered to be a useful reduction in FEC. Nevertheless, its in vivo activity was substantial at the higher dose and reduced the FECs by 65%. To investigate the matter further some additional experiments were carried out. Specimens of C. Jamacaru were collected and dried in the shade. For the phytochemical analysis and in vitro experiments, the dried material was milled to a fine powder, it was extracted with acetone and five fractions (hexane, butanol, water, chloroform and 35% water in methanol) were obtained by solvent-solvent fractionation. The chemical composition of the fractions and crude extract was analysed by thin layer chromatography using three solvent systems of varying polarity and pH. To detect the separated compounds, vanillin-sulphuric acid-methanol was sprayed on the chromatograms and heated at 110°C for optimal colour development. The antioxidant activity in plant extracts may influence the immune systems of animals and have an indirect effect. The antioxidant activity was therefore determined. For qualitative analysis of antioxidant activity, the 2,2, diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay on TLC plates was used as a test for the radical scavenging ability of the compounds present in the different extracts. In the DPPH qualitative analysis of antioxidant activity there were a number of antioxidant compounds present in some of the extracts and fractions but the activity appeared to be low. This observation was confirmed in the TEAC quantitative analysis of antioxidant activity. Even the fraction with the highest activity was about 8 times less active than trolox or ascorbic acid. It therefore appears that stimulation of the immune system by antioxidant activity does not explain the results found on the farm. The antibacterial and antifungal activities were determined against 4 bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecalis, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa) and 3 fungi (Aspergillus fumigatus, Candida albicans and Cryptococcus neoformans). The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values for plant extracts varied from 0.04 to 2.5 mg/ml. E. coli was the most sensitive and the fungi were in general resistant to the extract and fractions. In general the activity was not very good, especially if the dosage in an aqueous system on the farm is considered. Antimicrobial activity also does not explain the results obtained. The nematocidal activity was evaluated by an egg hatch assay and larval development viability assay (LDVA) in vitro. The acetone extract inhibited egg hatchability and killed infective larvae of H. Contortus nematodes of sheep in a concentration-dependent manner. The percentage inhibition of egg hatching of the acetone extract and the butanol, chloroform, 35% water in methanol, hexane and water solvent-solvent fractions were 100%, 100%, 94%, 91%, 9% and 16%, respectively. The percentage inhibition of larval development of the acetone extract and chloroform, 35% water in methanol, hexane and water fractions were 93%, 84%, 49%, 85%, 31%, respectively. The chloroform fraction was significantly more active than all the other fractions (p<0.05). The extracts had in vitro activity against the nematodes. The activity was however much lower than the positive control, albendazole. It is disappointing that our results do not provide an explanation for the success obtained by Mr Bosch on his farm. Even if we do not understand how it works it may be useful to prepare suitable dosages (using low level technologies adaptable to rural conditions) for use by resource-poor rural communities where C. jamacaru occurs as an invasive weed.

Moril Peñalver, Lorena 08 May 2023 (has links)

Genetic engineering of marine cyanobacterium Synechococcus PCC 7002 for nitrogen fixation

Jennersjö Hedman, Alma January 2024 (has links)
The global demand for nitrogen fertilizer was 12 million metric tonnes in 2014 and is expected to increase to 240 million metric tonnes by the year 2050, with the growth of the global population.  To meet the demand for nitrogen fertilizers, the Haber-Bosch process has primarily been used to produce the precursor of many nitrogen fertilizers - ammonia. The very energy-expensive Haber-Bosch process uses fossil fuels and, therefore, a renewable source of ammonia must be established. Some microorganisms can use atmospheric nitrogen to produce ammonia via the nitrogenase enzyme, a mechanism attractive for alternative ammonia production. In this thesis project, integrating vectors for the marine cyanobacterium Synechococcus PCC 7002 have been designed and generated to facilitate future heterotrophic nitrogenase integration and ammonia production. The vectors were designed for integration in seven neutral sites of the Synechococcus PCC 7002 genome. Five of the seven planned integrating vectors were successfully constructed and transformation was attempted into Synechococcus PCC 7002 to determine the transformation efficiency of the different neutral sites, however, the transformation results were inconclusive.

The cross of Christ in the tension between gospel and culture : interpretations of the cross within the context of Bosch's paradigm shift theory / Kreuz Christi im Spannungsfeld von kultur und Evangelium : Deutungen des kreuzes im Rahmen der Paradigmenwechselttheorie von Bosch

Reitz, Christiane 25 July 2014 (has links)
In this research study, the correlation between culture and gospel is investigated by examining changes in the interpretation of the cross of Christ from Early Christianity up to present times, using the method of paradigmatic analysis designed by David J. Bosch. Following the concept of the Missio Dei within mission theology, this study aims to find a perspective on the event of the cross which is relevant for today's practice. With reference to the topics of cultural context, sin, sacrifice, vicariousness, cross and mission, this study shows that in every paradigm the diverse perspectives of the interpretation of Jesus' death were explicable and helpful within their relevant contexts. It can also be seen that in its objectives, message and practice, mission correlates with the respective motifs prevalent at the time. In conclusion, after determining the proper place of the results within the concept of Missio Dei in mission theology, the study examines the relevance of these results for the Missio Christi, in order to offer a contribution to the debate and a potential perspective for explaining the significance of Jesus' death in the current German-speaking cultural context. / Christian Spirituality, Church History & Missiology / M.
