We attempted to relate the experience of this family to the moment Taubaté was going through, with the introduction of the coffee plantation in the region. Such fact caused great economic, social and cultural transformations in the village and its inhabitants, particularly influencing the lifestyle of the poor population. Through the study of this family, it was possible to observe the conditions of survival of the poor layer of the population in the end of the colonial period and to understand the arrangements which were necessary for these people to guarantee their maintenance. We attempted to identify their occupations, incomes, family formation and domiciles, mainly the ones led by women, as it could be found in a significant part of the houses in Taubaté. By joining the economic, demographic and spatial information of the village to the information on the family of Anna Albernas and the other female domiciles, we were able to reassemble some fragments of the panorama lived by this less wealthy layer of the population and to point out their presence in the urban space of the Village of Taubaté, at a time of great generation of wealth in the region / Este trabalho teve por objetivo estudar a população pobre, livre e urbana, da Vila de Taubaté no final do século XVIII e início do XIX, analisando a vivência de uma família comum, a de Anna Ferreira Albernas.

Error Locating Arrays, Adaptive Software Testing, and Combinatorial Group Testing

Chodoriwsky, Jacob N. 17 July 2012 (has links)
Combinatorial Group Testing (CGT) is a process of identifying faulty interactions (“errors”) within a particular set of items. Error Locating Arrays (ELAs) are combinatorial designs that can be built from Covering Arrays (CAs) to not only cover all errors in a system (each involving up to a certain number of items), but to locate and identify the errors as well. In this thesis, we survey known results for CGT, as well as CAs, ELAs, and some other types of related arrays. More importantly, we give several new results. First, we give a new algorithm that can be used to test a system in which each component (factor) has two options (values), and at most two errors are present. We show that, for systems with at most two errors, our algorithm improves upon a related algorithm by Mart´ınez et al. in terms of both robustness and efficiency. Second, we give the first adaptive CGT algorithm that can identify, among a given set of k items, all faulty interactions involving up to three items. We then compare it, performance-wise, to current-best nonadaptive method that can identify faulty interactions involving up to three items. We also give the first adaptive ELA-building algorithm that can identify all faulty interactions involving up to three items when safe values are known. Both of our new algorithms are generalizations of ones previously given by Mart´ınez et al. for identifying all faulty interactions involving up to two items.

The episodic-like memory can be evaluated in rodents through hippocampus-dependent tasks. The dentate gyrus is a hippocampal subregion in which neurogenesis occurs in adults, and it is believed that this process is related to the function of patterns separation, such as the identification of spatial and temporal patterns when discriminating events. Furthermore, neurogenesis is influenced spatial and contextual learning tasks. Our goal was to evaluate the performance of male Wistar rats in episodic-like tasks after acute or chronic caffeine treatment (15mg/kg or 30mg/kg). Moreover, we assessed the chronic effect of the caffeine treatment, as well as the influence of the hippocampus-dependent learning tasks, on the survival of new-born neurons at the beginning of treatment. For this purpose, we used BrdU to label the new cells generated in the dentate gyrus. Regarding the acute treatment, we found that the saline group presented a tendency to have better spatial and temporal discrimination than caffeine groups. The chronic caffeine group 15 mg/kg (low dose) showed the best discrimination of the temporal aspect of episodic-like memory, whereas the chronic caffeine group 30mg/kg (high dose) was able to discriminate temporal order, only in a condition of greater difficulty. Assessment of neurogenesis using immunohistochemistry for evaluating survival of new-born neurons generated in the dentate gyrus revealed no difference among groups of chronic treatment. Thus, the positive mnemonic effects of the chronic caffeine treatment were not related to neuronal survival. However, another plastic mechanism could explain the positive mnemonic effect, given that there was no improvement in the acute caffeine groups / A cafe?na ? um leve psicoestimulante que em baixas doses tem efeitos cognitivos e mnem?nicos positivos, enquanto em altas doses tende a possuir efeitos prejudiciais sobre esses processos.

Braços para colheita = sazonalidade e permanencia do trabalho temporario na agricultura paulista (1890-1915) / Harvest hands : seasonality and permanence of the temporary work in the São Paulo agriculture (1890-1915)

Estes somente seriam rompidos na década de 1960, quando a oferta fortemente elástica de mão de obra permitiria que o trabalho temporário se tornasse majoritário, sob a forma do trabalho volante / Abstract: The purpose of this thesis is the relationship between the seasonal demand of workforce and the work demand pattern for farming in the West of São Paulo from 1890 to 1915. It poses the question of the importance of the temporary work in structuring the economic activity during the development of the labor market. With this approach, it highlights the importance of the national worker, the true temporary worker. By validating that the demand pattern for workforce was ostly intermittent and not consistent, we were able to reassess some stereotypes that make up the Brazilian worker identity, such as its instability and sluggishness. We support the idea that the work system that followed the slavery in Sao Paulo's Coffee plantations should be thought of an association between colonato and seasonal temporary work. The latter is also important to structure the economic activity and not a marginal job category as most of the literature refers to. This arrangement allowed the rural coffee enterprise to avoid the strictness of the workforce (signature of slavery), guaranteeing the flexibility of the production factors and cost of labor, typical of capitalist management. Even though it allows greater flexibility, the arrangement "colonato + temporary worker" still showed limitations. Those limitations would only be overcome in the 1960s, when the highly elastic workforce supply would allow the temporary worker to become majority in the form of "volante" work / Doutorado / Historia Economica / Doutor em Desenvolvimento Economico

A pesquisa procura demonstrar como se da à integração deste processo / Abstract: Jaguariúna [SP], located on the edge of river Jaguari, integrates the set of cities classified as hydro-mineral spas known as the "Circuito das Águas Paulistas". The occupation of its territory dates from about 9,000 BC, according to archaeological records and pioneers settlers of 18th century. This research aims to demonstrate the process of Jaguariúna territorial management. From the sesmarias, farms were established on the watersheds of Jaguari and Camanducaia rivers, producing sugarcane and after coffee, between nineteenth and twentieth century. Such farms played a relevant role in occupation and territorial management of Jaguariúna city, whose peak occurs with the implementation of the "Companhia Mogiana de Estradas de Ferro". Therefore, rivers, coffee farms and railroads are the vectors of territorial management in Jaguariúna in the last quarter of the 19th century. The results of this process are still playing an important role in regional planning, constituting the hydrical, rural and railway Jaguariúna's heritage / Mestrado / Recursos Hidricos, Energeticos e Ambientais / Mestre em Engenharia Civil

Brněnské nábřeží - rehabilitace brněnských řek a jejich blízkého okolí / Brno waterfront - rehabilitation of rivers and their surrounding areas

Manclová, Miroslava January 2017 (has links)
The theme of the work is revitalisation of the Brno rivers, specifically the river Svitava. The main idea of the work is the understanding the river as a city-building element, as a place of potential that every city should fully utilize. People like to spend their free time at the water and such a space should satisfy their needs. The river flows smoothly throught the city, and people should be able to move freely around it. In the ideal case, it should be a green path across urban area. The solved territory is situated in the Brno-Zábrdovice district, which hasn´t ideal reputation. Its image is shaped by, among others, industrial areas which are quite often derelict. My task was to correctly distribute one of these sites, which is located near the Zábrdovice Monastery. The solved territory is currently a non-coherent and inconsistent structure that does not support the image of the site. The river is completely supressed at this point and the movement around it is very limited. In my design I tried to create a place that would offer a lot of activities through the day. I have modified the functions I have in the territory and supported by my proposal to form a working entity together. In such a territory will meet people, who work or live here, who are using the services or come to sport or spend their free time in the pleasant environment of Svitava river.
