What are the value and implications of two-car households for the electric car?Karlsson, Sten 17 November 2020 (has links)
The major barriers to a more widespread introduction of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) beyond early adopters are the limited range, charging limitations, and costly batteries. An important question is therefore where these effects can be most effectively mitigated. An optimization model is developed to estimate the potential for BEVs to replace one of the conventional cars in two-car households and to viably contribute to the households’ driving demand. It uses data from 1 to 3 months of simultaneous GPS logging of the movement patterns for both cars in 64 commuting Swedish two-car households in the Gothenburg region.
The results show that, for home charging only, a flexible vehicle use strategy can considerably increase BEV driving and nearly eliminate the unfulfilled driving in the household due to the range and charging limitations with a small battery. The present value of this flexibility is estimated to be on average $6000–$7000 but varies considerably between households. With possible near-future prices for BEVs based on mass production cost estimates, this flexibility makes the total cost of ownership (TCO) for a BEV advantageous in almost all the investigated households compared to a conventional vehicle or a hybrid electric vehicle. Because of the ubiquity of multi-car households in developed economies, these families could be ideal candidates for the initial efforts to enhance BEV adoptions beyond the early adopters. The results of this research can inform the design and marketing of cheaper BEVs with small but enough range and contribute to increased knowledge and awareness of the suitability of BEVs in such households.

This thesis deals with the topic of extrication of people trapped incrashed vehicles regarding the construction of the vehicle. Part of the resources needed for this theses was taken from a literary survey drawn up with the help of the Research and scientific library in Hradec Králové according to the given topic and key phrases. The first part of the thesis deals with specific parts of the constructions of cars. This part is followed by description of road accidents, various kinds of accidents and possible deformations of cars after accidents. The thesis deals with extrication itself made by fire brigades, suitable procedures, kinds of interventions and means of used technical equipment. Another part suggests ways of saving trails and evidence during road accident interventions. Final part of the thesis is focused on overall analysis of the given problem based on personal experience, suggestions, negative aspects of the current situation and differences in training of possible situations with reality at the site of the accident.

First of all, the attention is given to the selection of a suitable platform, which will be used for the implementation of a motion control algorithm that enables autonomous navigation of the autonomous model race car along a specified track. Then, the details of motion control algorithm design and its implementation aspects are explained. Also, the design of an obstacle detection system is presented. Finally, the work is concluded with presentation of various experiments with the implemented self-driving control algorithm and its evaluation.

Now-a-days safety systems and their advanced features have become a major part of human lives. People are ready to pay accordingly for the features they get for and very enthusiastic towards technology and latest trends. One such thing is drone or multicopter. These days everybody is getting interested in drones to buy, not only the fact that it is used in various scientific ways, sports and recreation purposes but also the latest advancements that was taking place in the development of light weight flying vehicles has made many scientific researchers, multinational companies and almost all the people to turn their eye towards the development of drones. And many companies are doing research for development of new safety features which can be called as the safety for the future. Some companies already introduced drones into the market and are used in different ways for different purposes. The usage of this vehicles depends on how intelligently one uses these multicopters. This thesis introduces a feature that adds safety to the multicopters to prevent them from flying to no-fly-regions. The work in this thesis is done to provide an approach by the usage of Raspberry Pi 2 B for multicopter applications as the main development board. It also helps the multicopter to prevent entering the NFR by detecting the NFRs around them intelligently and avoid them so there shouldn\'t be any problem or damage for the multicopters. Here we use GPS sensor for getting the NMEA data as input to know the latitude and longitude positions and then transferred to RPI2 B which allows us to know the latitude and longitude positions and then transfer this data into database to store the data through a wireless medium i.e., Wi-Fi medium. Based on the information stored in database we can see the location in a graphical manner using the open street maps (OSM). After that different checks are performed to avoid the NFR : (i) We will check if the current point lies inside or outside the no-fly-region based on the map information of NFR using the Point in Polygon algorithm and then (ii) we are using some area based detection 4 algorithm to check the distance from the point to line using Paul Brouke algorithm to see how far is the next NFR from the current point and avoiding it and the information is updated and stored in the database accordingly .(iii) Later, if the multicopter is out of all no-fly-region then the distance to the next NFR or nearest ones is analyzed and the information will be used for safety purpose. By using geometry and algorithms we are checking and finding out the NFRs and avoid entering into the NFR space. If the point is detected inside a no-fly-region then the last point outside this region will be detected which is marked as safe and the multicopter will be backtracked to the previous point before entering the no-fly-region i.e., the safe point. This paper not only aims at multicopter safety but also throws light into the future systems that are going to be developed in the field of Car-2-X, ensuring extended safety of the passengers.

The primary objective of the study was to determine the business success factors for the second-hand motor vehicle industry in the Vaal Triangle. This kind of study has never been conducted before within the Vaal Triangle and it is therefore intended to contribute to the body of knowledge within the field of entrepreneurship. A questionnaire was designed and distributed to dealerships within the Vaal Triangle region, and it was administered by the researcher. There are one hundred and twenty three (123) dealerships in the Vaal Triangle and fifty eight (58) participated in the study.
The demographics of the study revealed that males dominate car dealerships as compared to females, and also that Whites and Indians are the dominating races. Most participants are relatively young, i.e. less than 35 years and also the majority of dealerships are less than 15 years old. Furthermore, the study found that participants preferred starting a business from their pockets rather than going to the bank or government institutions such as IDC or NEF for funding. There was no significant difference in opinion between males and females. There were, however, medium to large differences in opinion between owner, manager and sales executive on some of the entrepreneurial constructs, for example, customer services and SME characteristics.
The study concluded that business success factors for the second-hand car industry in the Vaal Triangle region are (ranked from highest to lowest): Entrepreneurial competences, Marketing of the dealership, Dealership location, Product and Customer services, Characteristics of the Small Medium Enterprise and lastly, Resources and funding of the business. Cash vs. Stock Deals: Bidders' Performance in Tech and Non-tech M&A : Evidence from Mergers and Acquisitions in SwedenWulandari, Febi, Wang, Ji January 2015 (has links)
This paper researches the effects of choice of payment (cash and stock) and M&A type (technological and non-technological) on bidders’ performance. We investigate 500 events in Swedish market between 2005 and 2015. Moreover, we also control the size of firms and the value of takeovers. In this paper, we conduct an event study in order to generate abnormal returns for the bidders at and around the M&A announcement. This research generates statistically significant and positive abnormal returns for the bidders especially when deals are financed by shares. Moreover, we also find that the technological M&A brings about lower abnormal returns than non-technological M&A. When we control for payment choice in technological M&A, the result shows that technological M&A paid for in shares generates higher abnormal returns than technological M&A paid for in cash.
