Zanotto, Karin 24 August 2011 (has links)
Submitted by Marcelo Teixeira (mvteixeira@ucs.br) on 2014-05-30T12:15:13Z No. of bitstreams: 1 Dissertacao Karin Zanotto.pdf: 837430 bytes, checksum: b20765c5fb12622861d4411b13337e17 (MD5) / Made available in DSpace on 2014-05-30T12:15:13Z (GMT). It exposes some contributions of this author’s thoughts in relation to the current educational process. Foucault offers instruments of analysis that inspire historical, sociological and philosophical approaches, interlaced with the educational theme, which embraces concepts such as freedom, punishment, power, knowledge, autonomy, among others. Starting from the principle that the subject is under constant transformation or, yet, that one is always constituting oneself as a subject, whereas that constitution takes place particularly in the schooling period, the theme of care of the self leads to questioning the educational process as for the formation of the individual’s autonomy. At the light of bibliographic research this thesis is based on the analysis of The History of Sexuality and Hermeneutics of the Subject. The study is organized in three chapters. In the first chapter, the historical bases of the care of the self are analyzed according to The Will to Knowledge and The Use of Pleasure, under the perspective of investigating on the constitution of the subject. As for the second chapter, it is based on the third volume of The History of Sexuality: The Care of the Self and on the Hermeneutics of the Subject, contemplating a reflection on the care of the self in the history of sexuality, returning to the practices of the care for the self in Ancient History, under the optics of Foucault. The third chapter deals with how Foucault’s ideas contribute for the analysis of themes related to education, concerning the constitution of the subject, with a prime focus on schooling phase. It shows that attitudes fomenting care for the self, which aim at the interweaving of care practices with acquisition of knowledge, enable the constitution of an autonomous subject, seeking practices of freedom.

An empirical study of leadership and strategy in a copper mining environment : care of the self, interactional patterns and sustainability

Puga, Federico Manuel January 2013 (has links)
This study extends the understanding of leadership emergence from a relational perspective (Hosking, 2011; Cunliffe & Eriksen, 2011; Uhl-Bien, 2006), specifically related to the forming of trusting relationships. The argument follows from the conceptual development of subjectification processes referred to as “care of the self” (Foucault M. , 1988; Foucault M. , 2005) and the implications of “regimes of practices" (Foucault M. , 2010; Dean, 2010). The findings contribute to our understanding of the relation between patterns of differentiation and reciprocity (as contextual definitions) and the relational emergence of leadership. We conceive leadership formed by actions that have no instrumental purpose beyond constructing a subject able to form trusting relationships and judge this to be a phronetic practice. The research is based on a case study of the executive team of a large copper mining company implementing a sustainability strategy that has as its central purpose the construction of trusting relations within a complex net of stakeholders. Based on this case, my second contribution is to conceptualise the function of “parrhēsia practice” (Foucault M. , 2010), a “truth game” about truth, truth-telling and action in the relation of the self and others, which is significant in the formation of the relational leadership of the “conscious pariah” (Arendt, 1978). The study examines how it is that “truth games” of examining the self and “reframing” interactional patterns can facilitate the relational emergence of phronetic forms of leadership. The research methodology, designed to deal from a non-dualistic perspective with the relational emergence of leadership, uses a narrative research approach to describe practices (Czarniawska, Narratives in Social Science Research, 2011). It is “uncovered” as representational and dualistic in the research relation, and a discussion of how a non-dualistic research approach could be developed is provided.

Sollero, Pedro Azevedo 08 December 2017 (has links)
This research reflects upon processes of preparation for free musical improvisation in relation to the concept of care of the self, as presented by Michel Foucault in the Hermeneutics of the Subject. Other studies in the field of subjectivity such as the works of Gilles Deleuze, Felix Guattari and Suely Rolnik, have also contributed substantially to the present dissertation. In order to collect the different accounts upon which were based the reflections herein, I conducted interviews with improvising musicians Pauline Oliveros, Susan Alcorn, Chefa Alonso and Rogério Costa. I also conducted an experiment with musicians from the improvisation orchestra Orquestra Errante, as well as a bibliographic review of the improvisors interviewed and of other authors in the field of musical improvisation. The way certain events presented themselves, brought about topics such as feminisms and cognitive sciences. Both have received attention, though the latter far less so than the former. The goal of this text is to tend to part of one\'s musical development which is often left aside in traditional musical education, but is no less important than the ability to move fingers skilfully or master musical systems. These abilities are related to ethics as well as aesthetics and thus resonate in daily life. The results suggest paths for reflection and the development of processes of subjectification centred upon the relationship with the other, as much as upon the development of oneself. The main text is divided into three sections besides preface, introduction and final thoughts. In the first section, I deal with intersections between the philosophy studied by Foucault and publications in the field of improvisation which describe the environment of this practice and its processes of preparation. In the second section, I concentrate on the interviews as well as the experiment with the orchestra and attempt to build a reflection about my own practice in relation to those of other musicians who contributed to this research. The third section is dedicated to intersections between feminisms, care of the self and free improvisation, inasmuch as these relations presented themselves greatly relevant to this work. The different sections can be read in any order or individually.

Le « bios » antique dans la pensée du dernier Foucault / The ancient bios in the thought of the last Foucault

Masi, Paola 12 January 2016 (has links)
This work aims to suggest an interpretation of Michel Foucault’s last works through the concept of bios. It analyzes his courses at the Collège de France (1980/1984) and other works and speeches from that period, investigating the role played by this concept since its appearance in the problem of the relationship between subjectivity and truth and in opposition to the Christian and modern subject. Around the idea of bios, not only the Foucault reconceptualization of the idea of resistance, but also the linked reflection on the dimension of the subjectivity, of the subjectivation, comes true. Through the examination of the different regimes of truth that Foucault outlines (Christian aleturgie, Platonic epistrophe, Stoic care of the self, Socratic parrhesia and Cynic vraie vie), this work points out that the notion of bios acquires more and more relevance with the notion of “techniques of self”, the practices of subjectification and the “true life”. Foucault go as far as to place the ethical-political real issue at stakes in the matter of the bios, of the way of life, and of the body, that seem to constitute the essential political battleground where it could be possible today, to create a truly practicable and effective resistance to the contemporary governamentality.
