Uppfattningar om neuropsykiatriska diagnoser hos barn / Perceptions about children neuropsychiatry’s diagnoses

Hellqvist, Eva-Lotta January 2010 (has links)
Children become diagnosed with neuropsychiatry diagnostic. The diagnostic of children is critiqued from. The national board of health and welfare because the child psychiatric clinics differ in the reliability of diagnostic. This is a problem both in the same clinic and between clinics. The purpose is to investigate if parents of children with neuropsychiatry diagnostic consider that the diagnostic criteria were met when the child was diagnosed. The method was first a pilot study with surveys and interviews. The study was a telephone survey with parents of diagnosed children. The result indicates that the parents didn’t experience that the diagnostic criteria was met. The discussion suggests that communication between parents, child psychiatry and school needs to improve. / 0761777843

Experiences of child psychiatric nurses : an ecosystemic study

Van Rooyen, Matthys Johannes 08 1900 (has links)
This dissertation reports on the lived experiences of four child psychiatric nurses. The territory of child psychiatric nursing is explored in this investigation through the punctuation of many voices within this field of study. The methodology of the investigation is descriptive phenomenology and Colaizzis’ steps in descriptive phenomenology (map) are used to discover and describe the different template theories (the territory) that are unique to each of the four child psychiatric nurses who were interviewed. Following this, a story is punctuated, which is referred to as the structural synthesis. It is the heartbeat of the investigation. The dissertation concludes by reflecting on the paradox of how the invisibility of the child psychiatric nurses allowed for the visibility of the dissertation and encourages the reader to ask pivotal questions about the important role of the child psychiatric nurse, working as part of a multidisciplinary team, in order to improve patient care. / Psychology / M.A. (Clinical psychology)

The lived experience of psychiatric nurses working with children diagnosed with mental illness

Machailo, Rorisang Mary Johannah 09 December 2013 (has links)
M.Cur. (Psychiatric Nursing) / Psychiatric nursing forms part of basic nursing education in South Africa which is done in four years, either at diploma level or degree level. The psychiatric nurses are only trained in basic psychiatric nursing and are not well equipped to work effectively with children. Even though psychiatric nurses do not have enough skills and knowledge, it is expected of them to work in child psychiatric wards without adequate knowledge and skills. This creates discomfort to the internal environment of a nurse and the situation can be stressful to the nurse. Psychiatric nursing has two important components which are: supporting people at a reasonable level of functioning which they cannot maintain independently; and facilitating a higher level of functioning in people for whom this is possible. Child psychiatry is one of the specialities in the psychiatric division. ‘The description of the practice of the professional nurse in the field of child psychiatry in South Africa is vague and undeveloped and there are only a few nurses in South Africa with knowledge and skills to set guidelines for this area of practice (Makhele, 2006:36)’. Psychiatric nurses working in psychiatric hospitals undergo different experiences on a daily basis. In this research study, the researcher wondered as to what psychiatric nurses working with children diagnosed with mental illness, experience on a daily basis. The researcher then asks the following questions: 1. What are the lived experiences of psychiatric nurses working with children diagnosed with mental illness? 2. What can be done to assist the psychiatric nurses, working with children diagnosed with mental illness, in order to facilitate their mental health? This research study was done to: 1. To explore and describe the lived experiences of psychiatric nurses, working with children diagnosed with mental illness; and 2. To formulate guidelines in order to facilitate these psychiatric nurses’ mental health. In order to explore and describe the lived experience of psychiatric nurses who work with children diagnosed with mental illness, the researcher used a qualitative design. The researcher utilised phenomenology, in order to explore and describe the experiences of these psychiatric nurses in the context of their working environment. Purposive sampling method was used. In-depth phenomenological interviews were used to collect data. Tesch’s method in Creswell (2011: 113) of open coding was utilised for the analysis of the data. The results were re-contextualised within the literature. The findings of this study provided the detailed content of professional psychiatric nurses’ experience when working with children diagnosed with mental illness. Two themes which were identified are: 1. Theme 1 A challenging experience associated with tensions inherent to the contextual demands of psychiatric nurses working with children diagnosed with mental illness. 2. Theme 2 Psychiatric nurses experience of contextual demands which requires a process of continuous adjustment Guidelines on how to promote the mental health of psychiatric nurses working with children diagnosed with mental illness were derived from the research findings. In conclusion, presently psychiatric nursing training appears to rely upon individual training institutions putting into practice government policy in a fragmented fashion with no cohesive strategy. Where psychiatric nurses receive good quality training which includes child psychiatry, it is clear that good quality and appropriate interventions to children with mental illness and emotional problems can be achieved.

Makten att välja klienter : En studie om maktobalans i samverkan kring barn och unga med psykisk ohälsa utifrån skolkuratorers och socialsekreterares erfarenheter / The power to choose clients : A study about the imbalance of power regarding the collaboration around children with mental illness from the perspective of school counsellors and social service workers

Damsjö, Sandra, Blanck, Maja January 2014 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to examine the school counsellors and social service workers experience of how the child psychiatry manage their authority in the collaboration concerning children with mental health problems. The study was conducted using qualitative interviews with school counsellors, social service workers and one former employee of the Swedish child psychiatric care. Our results are divided into two themes: Collaboration and distribution of responsibility and Children who fall between the cracks. Examples of groups of children who according to our study are at risk of falling between the cracks are those who apart from mental issues have substance abuse issues or social issues, those whose parents are in a child custody dispute, children who are acting out and children with self-harm issues. The study also reveals that it's easier for children whose parents are active and knowledgeable to get help from the child psychiatric care and that it's a requirement for both parents and children to be highly motivated. There are established social hierarchs between agencies who partake in collaboration regarding children with mental illness. The child psychiatry have a higher status than the social services and the school and therefore greater power to steer the collaboration in a way that benefits the organisations own interests. The structure of the Swedish child psychiatric care is founded in a way that benefits the sorting of clients through the requirement of diagnoses and the will to sort out the psychic problems from the social. Our conclusions with the study is the way that children with mental illness are categorized and where the child is referred is mainly because of a broad conception that Abbott (1981) could describe where the mental issues are considered as "pure" and the social issues are considered "impure".

Sjuksköterskors erfarenheter av oenighet mellan barn och föräldrar inom barn- och ungdomspsykiatrisk öppenvård / Nurses' experiences of disagreement between children and parents in child and adolescent psychiatric outpatient care

Larsson, Charlotte, Larsson, Amelie January 2022 (has links)
Background: Parents have both a right and an obligation to decide in matters concerning children. At the same time, children have been given a stronger position in healthcare (settings). Research shows low agreement regarding children's and parents' attitudes to children's symptoms and treatment goals. The disagreement has importance for treatment outcomes and prognosis, as well as requiring adaption and strategies from the nurse. Purpose: The aim of the study was to describe nurses experience of nursing in the event of disagreement between children and parents in child and adolescent outpatient mental health care. Method: A qualitative method with an inductive approach was used. Eleven semi-structured interviews were conducted and data was analyzed based on qualitative content analysis. Results: The results are summarized in three categories: Balancing between children and parents 'perspectives, willingness to consider the child's perspective and willingness to consider parents' perspectives. Conclusion: Nurses described that it was a challenge to act so that both children and parents' needs were satisfied. They wanted to take the child's perspective and at the same time wanted to maintain a good relationship with the parents. Depending on the situation, the nurse alternated between acting as a representative for either the parents or children. Lack of strategies to handle disagreement led to feelings of frustration and incompetence.
