The performance of bond between betuminous layers.

Poliana Avelar Guimarães 17 December 2012 (has links)
Asphalt tack coat is commonly applied at the interface between asphalt layers during new pavement construction or overlay to ensure proper bond between the layers. This treatment at the interface, usually done with asphalt emulsion, allows the pavement structures to function as a monolithic system, avoiding problems like premature fatigue cracking, or slippage. This study aims to evaluate: (i) the influence of the tack coat type (neat or polymer modified asphalt emulsion), (ii) the application rate, (iii) the surface type, and (iv) the presence, or not, of an anti-reflective cracking interlayer (geotextile and fiber glass grid), in the adhesion properties between asphalt concrete layers. The adhesion between layers was tested through the Leutner shear test in laboratory and field samples. A double-layer system was produced with HMA as the top layer and SAMI (Stress Absorbing Membrane Interlayer), or HMA, as the bottom layer, varying the tack coat type (RR-1C, RR-1C-E e RR-2C-E), the application rate at the interface (0,0; 0,25; 0,50 and 0,75 L/m²) and the samples diameter (100 and 150 mm diameter). It was used the standard shear displacement rate of 50 mm/min, and the test temperature was set at 20°C. The same procedure was run with a displacement rate of 1 mm/min to evaluate its influence on the adhesion of three asphalt emulsions used as the tack coat. An experimental test section was constructed on Rodovia Ayrton Senna (SP-070), from km 38,000 to 39,500, and core samples (100 mm diameter) were extracted. The results of maximum shear stress demonstrate the influence of the tack coat type, the surface type, the sample diameter, the test displacement rate and the presence of a geotextile/grid on the adhesion at the interface between the asphalt layers,. Samples with grid at the interface presented similar results when compared with the samples with only tack coat at the interface. Samples with geotextile, however, presented significant lower values of maximum shear stress. The Leutner results showed that not always the modified asphalt emulsions present higher shear strength when compared to the neat asphalt emulsions.

Kappor inom damkonfektion : från grund till modell / Coats in women´s wear : from base pattern to style sample

Edberg, Jennie January 2012 (has links)
All konstruktion utfördes i Lectra´s Modaris. The background for this report was that the company cooperating with me wanted to develop a basic pattern for women´s coats. The purpose of this study was to construct a basic pattern with two types of sleeves to be graded in the sizes 32-50 and use the basic pattern to create a women´s coat. Beside this, coat details and product specifications should be produced.Lectra´s CAD-program Modaris is used for pattern construction. To create the basic pattern two different construction methods was used, and one of them chosen for further developing. The coat was developed from the basic pattern through additional constructions. The separate detail construktions was created be the same method. The companys PDM system Quest PDM was used to form the product specifications. The fit of the basic pattern was good, a minor balance fault might still remain. The coat sewn by the companys production office in Lithuenia met the requirements. The standing straight collar could be further improved, the other detail constructions lived up to the standars. The product specifications from Quest PDM showed the instructions and demands clearly. Unfortunately there was a problem using different illustration software within the system. / Program: Designteknikerutbildningen

The sanitary problems, mainly diseases caused by viruses are among the limiting factors for increasing productivity and longevity of the plantations. In Brazil, passion fruit woodiness, caused by Cowpea aphid-borne mosaic virus (CABMV) is the major viral disease of this crop. CABMV is also causing agent of the potyvirus mosaic, a viral disease that produces serious damages in cowpea. This crop in Brazil is important mainly in the Northeastern region and represents a relevant source of protein and starch for the population. Some years ago, in the state of Pernambuco it was found a potyvirus naturally infecting “lava-pratos”, leguminous plant native to Atlantic Forest commonly found on the margins of passionflower and cowpea crops. In the city of Paudalho it was found a group of “lava-pratos” plants presenting very intense symptoms with yellow spot on the leaves. From those plants, preparations examined in a transmission electron microscope showed the presence of elongated flexuous particles and cylindrical inclusions typical of potyvirus as well as isometric particles in high concentration and vesicles on the periphery of the chloroplasts which suggested the occurrence of a tymovirus. Serological analyses and coat protein sequencing to identify the potyvirus as well as studies on host adaptation in passionflower and cowpea, using isolates from these crops were undertaken. The virus with isometric particles was chemically purified to produce polyclonal antiserum and subjected to serological studies, host range and genome sequencing for characterization. It was concluded that the potyvirus found in “lava-pratos” is CABMV and phylogenetically observed the host adaptation of this virus to the families Fabaceae and Passifloraceae. For some strains geographical distance was not the strongest factor for genetic grouping and the Brazilian isolates form a large group distinct to other countries. According to the criteria of taxonomy, using amino acid sequence of coat protein and conserved region "tymobox", it was determined the presence of a tymovirus in “lava-pratos”, for which was proposed to be a new species named Cassia yellow mosaic-associated virus (CAYMaV).

Its interdisciplinary dimension is present in its convergence between the methodology of a visual study and the cultural sphere that frames this look for the universities. Its objective is to accomplish an analysis of large university brands and through a structured study of its many forms of presentation, verify how these institutions establish communication with society through the symbols and in what way they have evidenced their brands throughout the years thus contributing with own their traditions, beliefs and behavior. The significant alterations to the shapes of the coats of arms and brands are highlighted in this research that dialogs with with the period's communication comprehended by the XX and XXI centuries and their distinct subjects. The results show that the brands transmit the regional and institutional culture and are in constant change. Minimal alterations in their visual identities give signs of the university's evolution and the history of their conquests and conflicts. Some brands present a strong tendency to advance to contemporary society's imagery, bringing to the brands languages that incorporate new production technologies and placement of images to accompany the continually updated visual codes while others remains with coats of arms that date back to the XIX century and continue to use the heraldry for the maintenance of institutional values determined since its origins.

Seed Coat Color in Flax (Linum usitatissimum L.) Conditioned by the b1 Locus, its Linkage with Simple Sequence Repeat Markers (SSRs) and its Association with Flower Shape, Flower Color, Fatty Acid Profile and Grain Yield

2015 January 1900 (has links)
Previously seed coat color in flax has been used as a phenotypic marker for specialty quality traits and currently there is an increasing demand to use seed coat color in flax to market flax for human and animal nutrition uses. Seed coat color was studied to 1) understand the inheritance of seed coat color conditioned by the b1 locus, to 2) understand the relationship of other important flax traits with seed coat color as well as to 3) identify markers that are linked to seed coat color for future marker assisted selection of seed coat color. Spearman’s rank correlation and an allelism test was used to show the inheritance of the alleles at the b1 locus. Bulked segregant analysis (BSA) was used to identify putatively linked markers with the b1 locus, these were then screened on the CDC Bethune x M96006 recombinant inbred line population. Furthermore, the CDC Bethune x M96006 and CDC Bethune x USDA-ARS Crystal recombinant inbred line populations were used to identify any important flax traits that had a significant relationship with seed coat color. It was shown that seed coat color conditioned by the b1 locus was stably inherited and that b1vg and b1 are allelic to one another. The results of the BSA showed that there were 17 candidates for linkage but when these markers were screened on the population only the Lu456 from linkage group (LG) six was identified to have linkage (χ²=3.90; P<0.05) with the b1 locus. Additionally, it was shown that the b1 seed coat color allele of the b1 locus had a pleiotropic effect on flower color and flower shape and that seed coat color was associated with linolenic fatty acid content. None of the traits examined were found to be associated with the b1vg allele of this locus. These results show that the b1 locus is likely present on linkage group six, more marker coverage on linkage group six of markers that are polymorphic between the two seed coat color parents would increase the accuracy of detection. Lastly, this study showed that plant breeders should consider using the b1vg allele that conditions the variegated seed coat color to mark unique lines with important combinations of traits because it sorted independently for seed quality traits. Whereas, the yellow seed coat color conditioned by the b1 allele was found to be associated with higher linolenic fatty acid content and the semi-lethality of this allele would make it not suitable for use in parental lines.

Iron bioavailability in low phytate pea

2014 April 1900 (has links)
Field pea (Pisum sativum L.) seeds have high nutritional value but also contain phytate which can inhibit the absorption and utilization of nutrients. Phytate is the main storage form of phosphorus in the seeds but chelates Fe, Zn and some other micronutrients and is not well digested by monogastrics. Peas with pigmented seed coats contain polyphenols which also have anti-nutritional properties. To increase the nutritional value of field pea seeds, two low phytate lines (1-150-81 and 1-2347-144) containing higher inorganic phosphorus concentration (IN-P) and lower phytate-phosphorus concentration (PA-P) than the normal phytate varieties were developed from CDC Bronco in previous research. The objectives of this research were 1) to determine the effect of genotype and environment on iron bioavailability in a set of five pea varieties differing in phytate concentration and iron concentration using in vitro digestion/Caco-2 cell culture bioassay; 2) to determine the effect of seed coats on iron bioavailability by testing whole seeds compared to dehulled seeds in varieties differing in seed coat pigmentation using in vitro digestion/Caco-2 cell culture bioassay; 3) to determine the inheritance of iron bioavailability in field pea by evaluating recombinant inbred lines differing in phytate concentration using in vitro digestion/Caco-2 cell culture bioassay; 4) to determine the effects of pea with the low phytate trait on body weight and hemoglobin concentration of chickens. Iron concentration (FECON) did not differ significantly between normal and low phytate varieties. Iron bioavailability (FEBIO) of the two low-phytate lines was 1.4 to 1.9 times higher than that of the three normal phytate varieties, and growing environment also had a significant effect on FEBIO. Peas with pigmented seed coats contained 7 times lower FEBIO than peas with non-pigmented seed coat. The removal of the seed coat increased the FEBIO in peas with pigmented seed coat 5 to 6 times. From previous research on PR-15 recombinant inbred lines (RILs) which were developed from a cross between low phytate line 1-2347-144 and a normal phytate variety CDC Meadow, it was found that PA-P was controlled by a single gene. FEBIO, in this study, was also found to follow a bimodal frequency distribution, characteristic of single gene control, and it was highly correlated with PA-P in the PR-15 lines. In vivo studies were used to evaluate iron absorption of chickens fed with low and normal phytate pea diets. The diets containing the low-phytate pea lines had no significant effect on chicken body weight and hemoglobin level, compared with the diets containing normal phytate pea varieties. An unexpected high FECON was discovered in the diets that was traced to the ingredients of limestone and dicalcium-phosphate which likely affected the experimental results.

A review of the economic consequences of a policy of universal leucodepletion as compared to existing practices

Clare, Virginia Mary January 2009 (has links)
Leucodepletion, the removal of leucocytes from blood products improves the safety of blood transfusion by reducing adverse events associated with the incidental non-therapeutic transfusion of leucocytes. Leucodepletion has been shown to have clinical benefit for immuno-suppressed patients who require transfusion. The selective leucodepletion of blood products by bed side filtration for these patients has been widely practiced. This study investigated the economic consequences in Queensland of moving from a policy of selective leucodepletion to one of universal leucodepletion, that is providing all transfused patients with blood products leucodepleted during the manufacturing process. Using an analytic decision model a cost-effectiveness analysis was conducted. An ICER of $16.3M per life year gained was derived. Sensitivity analysis found this result to be robust to uncertainty in the parameters used in the model. This result argues against moving to a policy of universal leucodepletion. However during the course of the study the policy decision for universal leucodepletion was made and implemented in Queensland in October 2008. This study has concluded that cost-effectiveness is not an influential factor in policy decisions regarding quality and safety initiatives in the Australian blood sector.

Jämförelse mellan två nedkylningsmetoder av helblodsenheter för vidare framställning av trombocytkoncentrat avsedda för transfusion / Comparison between two cooling methods of whole blood units for further preparation of platelet concentrates intended for transfusion

Bäckström, Annie January 2018 (has links)

However, the genetic variability of these animals has been reduced due to the selection criteria adopted by breeders who only select to breed traits. One of these criteria is related to coat color, where the animals of red variety with dark and light tonality are discarded, as well as all animals of the white variety, with the justification that they are less adapted to the semiarid environment. Thus, in the present thesis was built in order to evaluate all characteristics related to the adaptation of Morada Nova sheep with different hair and coat color. Four groups were used according to coat color: (1) dark red animals, (2) intermediate red, (3) light red, and (4) white-coated animals. Forty Morada Nova ewes were observed in each of three herds for 7 consecutive months. In the first study we evaluated the thermal exchanges of sensible and latent heat loss in the different groups. All groups maintained homeothermy even when exposed to high solar radiation. The red coat animals increased respiratory rate in conditions of greater thermal stress. This fact was not observed in the white variety, which showed higher skin evaporation. In the second study, were evaluated hair coat characteristics and their association in the heat transfer from animals to the environment as well as physiological responses of animals. The largest differences found in the coat characteristics were recorded between the extremes of coat color: dark red and white. The white variety exhibited characteristics that promoted the protection of the skin, while red variety had characteristics which favored heat dissipation. It was concluded that Morada Nova sheep have good adaptability to the Semiarid environment, regardless of the coat color, and should be used in farming systems, preserved and multiplied / A raça Morada Nova é um importante recurso genético localmente adaptado do semiárido brasileiro, e apresentam características adaptativas exclusivas dessa região do Brasil no qual foi formada ao longo de anos de seleção natural.
