Plateforme ouverte, évolutive, sécurisée et orientée utilisateur pour l'e-commerce / Open, scalable, secure and user-centric platform for e-commerce

Delettre, Christian 12 December 2014 (has links)
Nowadays, e-commerce has become a complex ecosystem where multiple solutions (in terms of platforms) are possible and feasible for e-merchant. Concurrently, a new paradigm called Cloud Computing has emerged. Despite some advantages it brings, few of these platforms have been designed to operate on a Cloud architecture. Thus, because of the complexity to design a flexible and scalable e-commerce platform (EP), based on existing heterogeneous applications/services and fulfilling the needs of e-merchants, it is legitimate to ask ourself if a PE based on the Cloud would really simplify the difficulties faced by e-merchants. This thesis aims to validate the relevance of using the Cloud Computing in the e-commerce context and propose the architectural principles of an open, scalable and secure EP based on a Cloud architecture. In addition, the EP used by e-merchants are not user-centric EP. As a consequence, we propose a user-centric mechanism simplifying the design and implementation of an EP while ensuring a high security level. Finally, we tried to answer the following question: How to ensure that no activity inference on a database size, in an e-commerce context, can be achieved by unauthorized entities? As a response, we propose a user-centric security solution of data concealment to resolve the property of strong data confidentiality within relational database management system (RDBMS).

Experiences of concealing HIV positive status to immediate family by women at selected villages in Limpopo Province

Makgabo, Ramatsimele Patricia January 2021 (has links)
Thesis (MPH.) -- University of Limpopo, 2021 / Background: Disclosure of Human Immune Deficiency Virus (HIV) is still a challenge to people living with the disease because of the discrimination, stigma and judgemental attitudes. Women prefer to keep their illness to themselves and make it a secret. The revealing of HIV status relies on an individual who is living with the illness. The concept of non-disclosure is a vital issue that threatens immediate families in which there are people, especially women battling the non-disclosure of their HIV status. Objectives: The objectives of the study were to explore and describe the experiences of concealing HIV positive status to the immediate family by women living with Human Immunodeficiency Virus at the selected villages in Limpopo Province. Methods: The qualitative and descriptive phenomenological method was followed. Due to saturation, ten women participated after being selected through purposive sampling from the database with the consideration of the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews in Sepedi. The data was transcribed, translated and analysed through Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis. Results: WLW-HIV continue to manage to live with a secret about their HIV status due to the unpleasant feelings they hold about the illness continue, still pointing fingers and sceptical about disclosing, particularly to their children. They further tell lies about their illness and hide their medications away from the members of their family. The reasons about concealing their status include among others fear of prejudice, lack of trust, fear of abandonment and rejection, fear of blame and humiliation, denial, misconceptions that people still hold about HIV and the view of it as a predicament. Others conceal because of the lack of support and the target of the disclosure. xii Conclusion: The outcomes of the study have uncovered that there is still less awareness by members of the society about HIV/AIDS, which puts pressure on the WLW-HIV to effectively deal with an HIV positive status and disclose to their family members. These factors contribute to concealment and compromise the level of support that WLW-HIV would get from their family members, further impacting negatively on adherence. Keywords: Concealment, HIV/AIDS, Phenomenological study, Stigma and Immediate family.

Indoda iyanyamezela (a man perseveres): Exploring the perceptions, experiences and the psycho-social challenges of Xhosa young men in the Western Cape who have transitioned from adolescence to manhood without present or involved fathers

Moshani, Nomakhawuta Lettitia 04 April 2023 (has links) (PDF)
BACKGROUND: Father absence or uninvolvement is a growing problem worldwide, which not only negatively influences child development, but also the masculine identity formation of boy children. South Africa is one of the countries that has high levels of father absence, yet there has been scant research which particularly focuses on the perceptions, experiences and psycho-social challenges experienced by young men with absent fathers. Thus, the aim of this study was to explore the perceived influence of father absence or uninvolvement on Xhosa young men who have transitioned from adolescence to manhood. The first objective was to explore the perceptions, experiences and the psycho-social challenges of Xhosa young men in Khayelitsha, Western Cape who have transitioned from adolescence to manhood without present or involved fathers. The second objective was to explore Xhosa male elders' perceptions of the experiences and challenges of Xhosa young men who culturally transition from adolescence to manhood without present or involved fathers. The third objective was to identify the support needs of Xhosa young men before, during and after transitioning from adolescence to manhood in the absence of a present or involved biological father. METHODOLOGY: Using Bronfenbrenner's ecological systems theory as a conceptual framework, the study employed a qualitative approach to investigate factors that shape and influence experiences of Xhosa young men with absent or uninvolved fathers at individual, family, community and societal levels. Semi-structured in-depth individual interviews were conducted using interview guides covering various topics: family life; conceptualisation of manhood and fatherhood; father absence in Xhosa communities and its causes and impacts; the value of social fathers as well as the possible preventative interventions at different levels of the society to promote father presence or involvement and mitigate the impact of father absence. All interviews took place at different venues offered by community organisations in Khayelitsha (Ilitha Park, Site B and Nkanini) in the Western Cape province. They were conducted in isiXhosa, audio-recorded, transcribed and translated into English for analysis. Data analysis was conducted using thematic analysis utilising the NVivo 12 software package. During transcription, three researchers read the transcripts and developed an initial coding framework which was then used to code the rest of the data, making adjustments as necessary. The data were categorised thematically paying attention to dominant themes that addressed the research questions, while being open to additional themes arising in the data, and this process occurred until no new themes emerged. ETHICAL APPROVAL: The ethical approval of this study was provided by the UCT Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC 654/2018). RESULTS: The interviews were conducted with 22 Xhosa young men with absent or uninvolved fathers (ages 18-22) and five Xhosa male elders (ages 55-73). Due to the sensitivity of the topic initiation, a vignette was used to avoid directness. The main perceptions, experiences and psychosocial challenges of Xhosa young men who have transitioned from adolescence to manhood without present or involved fathers, were synthesised as follows: (i) The meaning given to cultural male circumcision by young men and elders were its individual family benefits. (ii) The challenges of Xhosa patriarchy, a father's role, and his absence, and paternal connection needs during initiation: planning, masculine guidance and protection, emotional and cultural support. (iii) The significance of the fatherly role and implications of father absence before and beyond initiation: the traditional and modern role. (iv) Barriers to father presence or uninvolvement: financial constraints, maternal gate-keeping and mother's negative attitudes. Using Bronfenbrenner's ecological systems theory, the support needs of Xhosa young men without present or involved fathers before, during and after transitioning from adolescence to manhood were identified as follows: (i) At the microsystem level, single mothers and maternal families of Xhosa young men need to be open regarding father absence, acknowledge the pain it causes and avoid maternal gatekeeping and paternal identity concealment. However, they also need to receive psycho-social support in order to be able to link the young men with social fathers, especially around initiation. (ii) At the mesosystem level, the social institutions such as churches, schools and sports clubs should have awareness regarding father absence or uninvolvement as a social problem in order to be sensitive towards the emotional needs of children with absent or uninvolved fathers. (iii) At the exosystem level, there is a need for fathers' environments (such as family, friends and the workplace) to encourage and foster lifestyles that promote father presence or involvement. (iv)At the macrosystem level, the media should raise awareness of father absence, and there must be policies and programmes that promote egalitarian parenting. (v) At the chronosystem level, there is a need to embrace and practice the modern fatherhood role which requires the father to be warm, spend quality time and have strong communication with his children. CONCLUSION: Cultural initiation is a crucial time for emotional and cultural growth which largely contributes to the development of manhood identity; it benefits the person on an individual and family level. However, this study notes that initiation comes with advantages and disadvantages for the Xhosa young men. It is a vehicle for growth, but also serves as a reminder of the vacant paternal role during this culturally significant process, especially in the midst of maternal gate-keeping and paternal identity concealment issues. Furthermore, in the course of their lives, the young men also experience loss related to not being exposed to the various positive roles a father would play, including the roles of disciplinarian, provider and the nurturer. Even though social fathers and strong maternal kin support could help Xhosa young men to cope better, the void of the biological father remains unfilled, especially around the period of initiation due to the emotional, cultural and financial implications of the ritual. This study shows that the young men could experience depression, be suicidal, have anger and resort to substance use when not supported. There is thus a need for multi-dimensional interventions to address these issues. These should start with psycho-educational support for maternal families to empower them to be supportive towards the emotional and cultural needs of the young men as the families do not always possess the necessary skills to support a child in this predicament. Absent fathers also need to be engaged in order to understand the reasons leading to their disengagement, and to sensitise them regarding the consequences of their absence for them to better understand the permanence of fatherhood. Advocacy is needed to make the wider society aware of the support needs of Xhosa young men who go through initiation in the absence of a father. Finally, the strategies that seem to yield positive results in managing father absence need to be strengthened, namely: strong maternal family support, social fathering, counselling and mentorship.

An educational psychological perspective on self-disclosure in adolescent interpersonal relationships

Phetla, Rabi Joseph 11 1900 (has links)
Adolescents, like all individuals, have a need to belong. Consequently, during the adolescent period, adolescents battle with the establishment and maintenance of meaningful relationships. Most of them, unfortunately, do not succeed to establish and maintain such relationships because of a lack of skills to do so. It appears, therefore, that If adolescents are to enhance their interpersonal relationships so as to enable themselves to self-actualize, they need to be taught interpersonal skills. One of the skills that they should be taught is the self-disclosure. As such, the first part of the literature study was devoted to the discussion of self disclosure. The study of literature revealed that self-disclosure has many aspects, the main ones being the nature of the self-disclosure content, self-discloser target, and concealment. In the second part of the literature study, attention was paid to the nature of interpersonal relationships with special reference to adolescents' relationships. The malysis of interpersonal relationships revealed that the establishment and maintenance, is well as the collapse of interpersonal relationships follow a particular pattern. Data concerning perceptions, beliefs and attitudes held by adolescents towards selflish closure in their interpersonal relationships was gathered by means of various Techniques. Parents' perceptions, beliefs and attitudes towards their adolescent children's perceptions, beliefs and attitudes towards self-disclosure in interpersonal relationships were also assessed. The results of the empirical study revealed that adolescents hold selfdefeating perceptions, beliefs and attitudes that make it difficult for them to handle selflisclosure in ways that ought to enhance their interpersonal relationships so as to enable themselves to self-actualize. These perceptions, beliefs and attitudes may not change easily as their parents, the most important component of the adolescents' significant others, seem to be modelling self-defeating perceptions, beliefs and attitudes towards self-disclosure. Lastly, a few guidelines to assist adolescents to handle self-disclosure in ways that ought to enhance their interpersonal relationships so as to enable themselves to self-actualize were given. / Thesis (D. Détection et conciliation d'erreurs intégrées dans un décodeur vidéo : utilisation des techniques d'analyse statistique / Error detection and concealment integrated in a video decoder : using technics of statistical analysis

Ekobo Akoa, Brice 31 October 2014 (has links)
This report presents the research conducted during my PhD, which aims to develop an efficient algorithm for correcting errors in a digital image decoding process and ensure a high level of visual quality of decoded images. Statistical analysis techniques are studied to detect and conceal the artefacts. A control loop is implemented for the monitoring of image visual quality. The manuscript consists in six chapters. The first chapter presents the principal state of art image quality assessment methods and introduces our proposal. This proposal consists in a video quality measurement tool (VQMT) using the Human Visual System to indicate the visual quality of a video (or an image). Three statistical learning models of VQMT are designed. They are based on classification, artificial neural networks and non-linear regression and are developed in the second, third and fourth chapter respectively. The fifth chapter presents the principal state of art image error concealment technics. The latter chapter uses the results of the four former chapters to design an algorithm for error concealment in images. The demonstration considers blur and noise artefacts and is based on the Wiener filter optimized on the criterion of local linear minimum mean square error. The results are presented and discussed to show how the VQMT improves the performances of the implemented algorithm for error concealment.

The choice of the MFL subjects is due to its crucial role, which, in accordance to the Curriculum Guidelines of 2006, consists in "taking the students to see themselves as individuals by the contact and exposure to others, to their differences, and to recognize the diversity". In regard to the compliance with the law, the public notice for PNLD-2014 has emphasized MFL subjects when compared to the other curriculum subjects. Bearing in mind the mentioned law and public notice, we analyzed teaching sequences from the five MFL approved books in PNLD-2014. The theoretical basis of this work was composed of the works from Bakhtin's Circle, as we regard the textbook as a discourse genre, the theory of the struggle for recognition proposed by Axel Honneth, and Michel Debrun's concept of ideological concealment. Our goal was to analyze whether such textbooks contributed to the formation of a black student that is both an individual and an agent of his or her own history, since Honneth's theory provided us with the means to understand how people include themselves in society through a struggle for inter-subjective recognition, or contributed to perpetuate what Debrun called ideological concealment, which obliterates the black student, prevents him or her from seeing himself or herself as an "individual", from "acting as a citizen", denies him or her contact and "exposure to other people, to difference, and to recognition of diversity" (BRAZIL, 2006), and, as a consequence, precludes the building blocks of a cognitive sociability of difference. Our analysis gave us an overall picture. The interested parties were not involved in the process of conceiving or evaluating the MFL textbooks. Viewing the whole corpus allowed us to affirm that little of the self mirrored in the other is, in fact, the other. So, as we see it, separated from a wide range of other affirmative action policies in different fronts, the Law No. 10.639 of 2003 tends to be insufficient.

The dissertation analyzes issues concerning the wireless transmission and the direct emission of digital audio signals, in order to optimize these techniques. Regarding the wireless transmission, the dissertation focuses on the WLAN family of networks, supporting QoS. In order to study the system, trials were conducted using a novel platform that allows the conversion of audio streams for them to be imported an exported from a network simulation application, facilitating the final audio playback fidelity estimation. The above analysis led to the development of a prototype technique for the synchronization of discreet reproduction channels that can be implemented using typical WLAN hardware, as well as a prototype algorithm for concealing audible distortion that might be added during the transmission. Moreover, results using new methods relating to the study of Unary Digital Transmission Arrays driven by one-bit Delta-Sigma signals, as in the DSD standard, are introduced in the dissertation. The approach is based on a prototype algorithm for mapping a one-bit stream to the acoustic transmission elements and exhibits important advantages, namely increased fidelity and improved directivity, as well as ease of implementation. The design and operation of the prototype digital Delta-Sigma speaker substantiates the theoretical analysis, while the measurements obtained from the device are in accordance with what expected from respective simulations. However, various practical limitations lead to lower than expected acoustic fidelity.

Shhhh! : A Critical Didactic Relations Analysis of the Curriculum Silentium; The Hidden Policy of Silence Regarding Work Related Crticism from Employees.

Holte, Kjersti Lien January 2009 (has links)
This study has developed a tool for explaining why employees fail to speak up with regard to work related criticism; there is a hidden policy of silence that teaches employees to remain silent. This hidden policy is here designated as the "Curriculum Silentium" and is described in detail on the basis of empirical and theoretical data. After identifying a gap between the intentionally and experienced policy for employees freedom of speech in organizations I suggest that there are on-going unofficial, partially hidden learning processes in the organizations. The overall research question is; How does the Curriculum Silentium; the hidden policy of silence among employees, look like?  I make an analytic construction of the hidden policy as if it were planned policy, using the didactic categories applicable to organizations. These didactic categories are: goals, content, teaching strategies and the motivation of employees. The empirical data was collected in three different organizations: an elementary school, a home for the elderly and a factory in the process industry, using qualitative methods such as interviews and observation. The theoretical foundation of the study is taken from existing theory within the field of work life research and educational science. The study is not a comparative study of the three organizations, but does involve a comparison of whether and how the Curriculum Silentium is expressed in three such different organizations. The challenge of examining hidden relationships in organizations was met through the development of guidelines for an analytical approach called a critical didactic relations analysis. The study concludes that a hidden policy of silence resembling that presented here exists in organizations where employees fail to voice working life related criticism.
